Cacio e Pepe - almond parmesan, black pepper cashew cream
    Joy W.

Our vegan friends brought us non vegans to Plant City. Apparently they used to have a system so you could order from all the restaurants within Plant City, but now you have to choose from one restaurant to order from. The vegan pasta sounded good, so we went with Double Zero. Our friendly waitress sat us in a cozy booth, where I got a nice view of the restaurant. $17 Cacio e Pepe - almond parmesan, black pepper cashew cream: Very creamy nut-based sauce from the very versatile cashew. The noodles were thick and chewy and the sauce clung well. If I didn't know what it was, it could very well mimic egg pasta with cheese. $19 Bianca Pizza - macadamia ricotta, cashew mozzarella, parmesan, rice mozzarella, pepperoncini, rapini, plant yolk: Very creamy once again. Another win for versatile fatty nuts. Also I never knew that rice could turn into mozzarella. Perhaps it was rice milk processed into faux mozzarella? The tart and bitter taste of the pepperoncini and rapini balanced out the creaminess. The best part was the dough. $18 Pesto Pizza - macadamia ricotta, zucchini, arugula, parmesan: Tasty. Not too difficult to make a vegan pesto pizza. I wouldn't mind if the zucchini was a bit more roasted. Food was tasty and service was very thoughtful. Some of the dishes could have used a bit more flavor, or just a touch more balance to all the nut-based cream sauces.

    Raw "lasagna"

Okay, let's start this review off with the fact that I'm not a vegan. However, I've had several meals at the related Plant City X and really enjoy their versions of burgers, etc. But the key with Plant City X is that the plant based substitutes do replicate the meat based version. However, slices of raw zucchini with tomato sauce and dollops of cashew cheese sauce aren't anywhere near a lasagna. I get that it's supposed to be raw, but as visually appealing as that thing may be... it's cold, bland and you'd have to have never tasted a real lasagna to think it's anything similar. The sad thing is that I've had plenty of vegetable lasagnas that could likely be transitioned to something vegan instead of this. But it doesn't stop there... they've got wonderful pizza dough. But again they throw on the cashew cheese dollops, which then ruins the entire consistency and certainly doesn't belong in a calzone or a margarita pizza. Cashew cheese dollops are the consistency of ricotta and that's not how ricotta is used. There were some aspects that just seemed like poor preparation, like the burnt churros for dessert and the soggy buffalo tofu pizza. Out of the whole group, the only meal that seemed appetizing in a pizza & pasta joint was a salad. C'mon now. If you're going to be a vegan restaurant you need to have more than salads going for you. Now let's talk about the rest of the place... honestly for brunch, the downstairs was packed, and the upstairs with the pizza place was huge and vacant (maybe that was a sign.) There did seem to be some pretty arbitrary rules like you couldn't order anything from the Mexican restaurant that shared the seating area (and likely the same kitchen). But that rule seemed to only apply to our table because a few tables over from us was clearly ordering pizza and Mexican. That being said, the redeeming quality and why I've given the place 2 stars... is the orange creamsicle drink. It's pretty darn good.

This was my first time here but my friend really likes this place. She got her usual kale, mushroom, and truffle pizza. I tried the margherita. It was ok. The sauce was a bit too salty, and while the cashew cheese was not bad, it was an imitation of ricotta and not mozzarella. It is not a margherita, but still ok. Service was good. I would return to try some other things.

We were very impressed with the steps taken during the pandemic. Every interaction with the staff required all of of to wear masks, even at the table, the payment was really smooth and safe, very good control of the pandemic rules and regulations. I had the Pasta Carbonara and I loved it !!!! I would get that again any day, the pasta was nicely cooked, al dente, the sauce was delicious and the "bacon" was crispy and very flavorful. My husband got the pesto calzone and it was just ok. The crust was not flaky nor fluffy like other calzones and the filling was a bit bland, we probably won't get that again. Good service, good food. Lots of choices.

Wow - meat, who? What a great new place downtown where the terrible awful Mile and a Quarter used to be! Came on a Wed night - found parking on the street (after 6pm - you don't need to feed the meters). They really did a beautiful job with the place - clean, modern and NY'esque vibe. We went upstairs to dine at Double Zero (there isn't much of a division between this and Bar Verde but the host/hostess will help you out). We sat at the bar and had a nice view of the open kitchen. We saw all the prep and artistry of the food particularly the pizzas and the lasagna - they put so much love into what they do and it shows. We went with the tomato zucchini lasagna, caçio e pepe and spicy pepperoni pizza (server's recommendation). Everything was delicious and super tasty. It was amazing how flavorful everything was - and the lasagna - just absolutely delicious. All the flavors just worked so beautifully. Cacio e pepe was good but there was a bit tanginess that threw me off. Pizza had a nice crust and again flavors were so good. We asked to scale down a bit on the spice but really I think we could've taken it. The place is a bit pricey but I'm willing to pay for good food. Will definitely be returning and to also try the other spots Plant City has to offer - fresh new hot spot worth coming to.

First time dining in this part of Plant City. We had eaten at Bar Verde the week before. I already knew the drill for reservations on OpenTable, street parking and to go upstairs when you walk in the door. On a Monday night, the entire place was bustling. We checked in with the hostess and were seated in at a window table. The hostess left us with menus and we perused. The drink side is the same for both restaurants. Having tried to cocktails last time, we opted for wine tonight. I got a French rose that wasn't memorable and my husband ordered an Italian red blend that was tastier and less expensive. Our server, Maddie, was friendly and attentive. We ordered the eggplant caponata, meatballs and mushroom bolognese. Things came out very quickly. The food temperature was a little warm-not hot out of the oven/off the stove. Presentation was lacking a little something as I mentioned in my review of Bar Verde. The chef doesn't use commercially made plant "meat" and the walnut ground beef and bean/quinoa meatballs were clearly homemade. The nut based cheeses are delicious as well. Our experience tonight was enjoyable. Looking forward to checking out the lower levels of the building.

We sat inside, it was pleasant, and it was cool. For starters, we had the Flatbread with spinach and cashew cheese.. It would have been nice to have more spinach in it - even though the bread was delicious, the cheese was very rich. Their spaghetti carbanara was amazing. The sauce on their margarita pizza was sweet. We all enjoyed it. There are only 4 med slices in the pizza, which was fine for us, given we had other food. If you only have pizza, I would suggest ordering 2 for 3 to 4 people.

The Double Zero in Boston is one of my favorite restaurants, so when I found out there was one in Providence, I had to try it! Overall, the Boston location is definitely superior. I ordered the Cacio E Pepe, and the flavor isn't as good as the Boston location. Here, it has more of a sulfury egg flavor from the nutritional yeast, while the Boston location has more of a hint of citrus that makes it a more balanced dish. This location does give bigger portions, though, and actually made me full, while the one in Boston is definitely smaller with thinner noodles. I did love the Churros here! It can be hard to find vegan churros, so I really appreciated that there was a vegan option here. It had a good balance of crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and it wasn't too sweet. The chocolate and caramel sauces were amazing, too! Our server was really nice and went out of her way to find us red pepper flakes, despite another server saying he didn't think there was any and didn't bother to look for any. I do find it weird though that it was hard to find red pepper flakes when it is such a common topping for pizza and pasta. I probably won't be coming back for the Cacio E Pepe, but can definitely see myself coming back for the other menu items!

    Eggplant Parmesan Rigatoni

Place is amazing. I first tried their food at the their location on Newbury street in Boston. This review comes from a person who loves meat. Their food is beyond delicious, to die for. Specially their eggplant Parmigiana with pasta. The staff is super friendly and always makes sure you're taken care of. Sadly they closed down their Massachusetts location but I found out they had another restaurant in Rhode Island. The Rhode Island location is perfect for any occasion. They are located on the second floor of an old but remodeled brick building. Plenty of street parking.

My husband and I recently came here to celebrate our anniversary. We had wanted to come for some time, but haven't because it is too expensive so we figured we'd wait for a special occasion like our anniversary. We got the cacio e pepe, pepperoni pizza, and the tiramisu. First thing I want to say is that they don't seem to be consistent with their dishes. All the pics I've seen on IG and Yelp of Cacio E Pepe has spaghetti noodles. When we ordered it, we got pasta shells. The tiramisu we got also did not look like the tiramisu I've seen in pics. Makes me wonder if the way it tastes is also inconsistent. Our cacio e pepe was okay. The shells were on the hard side, it could've definitely been cooked more. I thought it tasted alright. It wasn't awful, but definitely not amazing either. My husband said it reminded him of boxed Mac and cheese with some black pepper on top. Our pepperoni pizza (which by the way, does not have any pepperoni despite it's name) was sweet and spicy. The spicy parts were a bit too spicy and I typically enjoy spicy foods, but it wasn't a good spicy in my opinion. The tiramisu was my favorite. It was tasty. We both really enjoyed it. It's probably the only thing I'd come back for. Overall, I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you are rich and don't mind spending a lot of money on mediocre food. I'm sorry, but for $17-$19 a dish, I expect perfection or mind blowing food, not half cooked pasta or pizza that's too spicy.

Classic and Spicy Margarita (both were delicious - Spicy tasted like a spinoff Bloody Mary)

I REALLY loved this dinner. The atmosphere is nice, located right above plant city. I wish we were able to sit further inside the restaurant, but we got seated near the stairs which was pretty cold since the door kept opening downstairs. I would rate this a 3.5 if I could, but I'll round up. We waited SO long to be seated. It was almost an hour and they said it would take only 30 minutes! To make it worse, we sat at the Bar Verde bar to order margaritas while we waited and the bartender took 10 minutes to take our order! Very nice but very slow. When we finally got seated, everything came quickly. Our waitress was super nice and patient. We all ordered a drink and I ordered the cacio e pepe for dinner. My one friend got pasta bolognese and the other got Margherita pizza. We all loved our dinner - mine was SPECTACULAR. The pasta was so delicious and flavorful. The sauce was rich. I had enough leftover for lunch the next day and I almost always clean my plate! The prices may look high but they are worth it for the portion size. Definitely would recommend, just maybe make a reservation if you can. Especially if you come at a popular dinner time or with a large group.

First time at Plant City and had brunch at Double Zero. Definitely not your typical brunch offerings but so good! Loved the spinach dip & carbonara pasta. The Panettone al Forno was an awesome sweet option, more berry and coconut cream flavor than chocolate (as described) but so good!

I've been here a few times and it's always super busy for dinner. Be sure to make a reservation on OpenTable! The service has slowly gotten better from when they first opened, as they started to hire and train more people. The ambience is very relaxing although it can get loud. The menu is small but everything I've tried has been great. The pizza is a must try! My favorite is the pepperoni, and I also like the truffle pizza. The Cacio e Pepe and tiramisu are also delicious! I usually don't really care for vegan food, but I've been impressed with every dish I've tried here. Some things are a little overpriced but worth it. I'll definitely be back.

We have friends in the area who had heard of the place, but had never gone, so we made a reservation (2.5 months ahead for a 4 some on a Friday, so it must be special...) and finally got to see what the fuss was about. (Still wondering.) We started with what ended up being a high point, "beets and frites." A very interesting take with a lot of frites, not enough beets (5 slices under the stack), and about 2 tablespoons of the lemon aioli. The few tastes of the 3-part combination were great. The frites, crisp and soooo thin, were good on their own. The olive oil that came with the bread was very green (young), with a strong flavor but I was surprised that there was no pepper grinder. I had the (special) cod, which came with a lazy prep of broccoli rabe and OK potatoes. The fish was cooked well, moist and fresh, but I'm still not sure what the flavorless green topping was. Our table also had oxtail ravioli, which consisted of tasty little purses of thin pasta and nicely flavored meat inside. (Probably the best entree, and gained the second star.) The eggplant was unremarkable in terms of flavor of the sauce, and the veggies that went into it did not seem to be very fresh. For dessert, we had rhubarb peach tart and chocolate bread pudding. The tart was mostly crust and very shy on the rhubarb. The bread pudding apparently used Hershey's chocolate powder which was not a great flavor and left a grainy texture. The server was not very friendly, somewhat pushy, and insisted that we order the dessert when we ordered everything else. Allegedly, this was because the dessert is made to order, but we had the impression that it was to expedite our table time. Even so, with all that "careful planning" only 3 of the 4 entrees made an entry and we waited quite a while for the 4th to show up, even after asking. Overall, not a good experience and not a place I'll plan to revisit.

Our server, Dwight, seemed rushed and inattentive throughout the evening. From the start, we felt like an inconvenience rather than welcomed guests. We asked if we could move to a nearby table that was already set for eight, as our current table was cramped and located in a very tight walkway where people constantly brushed past us. We were told the table was reserved, yet from the time we arrived just before 6:00 PM until we left at 8:45 PM, no one was ever seated there. It was frustrating, especially since the cramped space made our dining experience uncomfortable. Service overall was lacking. Dwight rarely checked on us, and when we tried to get his attention for drinks or assistance, he would quickly pass by before we had the chance to ask. It often felt like we were bothering him. We were not offered water, and getting additional beverages was unnecessarily difficult. The food itself was just okay, nothing memorable. When we ordered dessert and cappuccino, the cappuccino tasted like it was made with spoiled milk, but again, no one came back to check on us, so we had no opportunity to address it. The most disappointing moment was the birthday acknowledgment. We asked for a dessert with a candle to celebrate an 85th birthday, and instead received a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate, a small amount of whipped cream, and a candle. It was underwhelming and, honestly, a bit embarrassing. We would have gladly paid for a proper dessert. Jacob the busser was the only attentive one there. We have come to Pane e Vino every year for family birthdays because we've always enjoyed the atmosphere, but after this experience, we will not be returning.

Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante falls squarely into that second category for me. Years ago, when I was living in Providence, Friday nights often meant a trip to Federal Hill and a pizza from Venda to take home. It became such a regular thing that the drive over felt automatic. Even now, whenever I'm on the Hill and trying to decide where to eat, this is usually one of the first places that comes to mind. I've eaten here enough times that I honestly think I've worked my way through just about everything on the menu. That's not an exaggeration. The impressive part is that I can't think of a meal that left me disappointed. Whether it's pasta, seafood, pizza, or one of their specials, the food is consistently good. In a restaurant business where consistency can be surprisingly hard to find, that's worth recognizing. The wine list deserves a mention of its own. If you're a wine enthusiast, you could spend a lot of time exploring the selections here. I know I certainly have, and I'm afraid to calculate how much money I've spent doing exactly that over the years. No regrets, though. The staff behind the bar know what they're talking about and are always happy to make recommendations. The same goes for the cocktail and spirits selection. Friendly, knowledgeable, and never pretentious. Don't skip dessert, either. Every time I tell myself I'm too full, I somehow end up looking at the dessert menu anyway. One thing I appreciate is the parking situation. Anyone familiar with Federal Hill knows parking can sometimes feel like a competitive sport. The valet service is especially helpful on busy Friday and Saturday evenings. If valet isn't your thing, there are independent lots nearby, and occasionally you'll get lucky and find a spot on the street. During the warmer months, sitting outside in DePasquale Square is one of the best dining experiences in Providence. Good food, a glass of wine, live music drifting through the square, and people enjoying the evening. It's hard not to have a good time. One practical note: I'm a cash guy, so it doesn't affect me personally, but friends have mentioned there's a processing fee when paying by card. Just something to be aware of before the check arrives. It's also a great place to stop for an afternoon drink before heading elsewhere in the city. Whether you're settling in for a full dinner or just grabbing a glass of wine and people-watching for a while, Costantino's Venda Bar & Ristorante continues to be one of the most reliable spots on Federal Hill. Some restaurants have great nights. This place has been delivering great years.
