According to a work colleague which happens to be Italian, Doppio Zero in Concord is one place to get really authentic Neapolitan Pizza. I came here for solo lunch after car maintenance at nearby Concord Toyota. The restaurant is huge and welcoming, like so many others at the Veranda. I started with grilled octopus as the appetizer - perfectly cooked and tender. The salad was fresh as well. It's amazing how you can enjoy eating Octopus live (Korea), raw (Japanese), or grilled (Greek, Spain, Italian). For the main, I got the Fungo Pizza. Even with 10-inch diameter, one person can finish. I liked the cheese and thyme, though I preferred sliced, stubby mushrooms as opposed to the stringy ones that reminds me of Japanese enoki. Pizza crust had some burnt parts but otherwise pleasant chewiness. It was not crispy despite being a thin crust. Definitely recommend DZ for your Neapolitan Pizza fix. There are standards needed to serve authentic one. Be sure to enjoy it dining in, as this type of pizza won't taste as good for takeout. read more

There's several Doppio Zeroes around the Bay Area, all great. The Concord spot is large and offers a cozy atmosphere with mood lighting. Perfect for a casual night out. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating. Their full bar and wine selection complement the dining experience well. Fast service for lunch, including on weekends. They usually aren't too packed unless there's a game or a dinner rush. The highlight is undoubtedly the pizza, made fresh right before your eyes in the giant oven in the back. The pizzas are thin and chewy with a fair stretch, which may not be your thing if you love a crunchy bottom. There's a nice selection of condiments like chili flakes, Parmesan, and spicy oil to customize. I'm less of a fan of the eponymous pizza, as the arugula topping is raw and I would prefer if it was cooked a little. However, all the other pizzas I've tried have been great. read more

I came to Doppio Zero on a Friday evening for my best friend's sisters' birthday celebration. The restaurant was packed but luckily we had a reservation and were seated outdoors. The ambience of this restaurant was aesthetically pleasing and it had a lively/cheerful atmosphere. I ordered the fettuccine short ribs while my best friend ordered the fettuccine porcini. Both pastas tasted decent, though I thought they were lacking flavor. I did like how the noodles were fresh and had a nice bounce/chew to them. However, I don't think it was worth $24 for each pasta. I was able to try the Doppio Zero pizza which I loved because the combination of burrata cheese and prosciutto added another layer of flavor to the pizza. If I were to ever come back to this restaurant, I would get the pizza rather than the pasta. Additionally, one issue I noticed with the outdoor seating is that there were bugs in the area and even our table. One managed to get in my plate of food, but thankfully I was able to remove it. This was our first time here and I am already looking forward to returning! The service was great. Our server was attentive without being pushy and was very sweet about making sure the sun wasn't blazing on us by moving the umbrella to cover my friend and I without asking. The outdoor dining area was so pleasant and beautifully setup. It felt like we were on vacation. We ordered quite a few dishes. Some were hits and some were just okay. 1. Fried Brussels Sprouts: wouldn't get these again. We expected crispy Brussels sprouts and not the soggy mess we got. They were tasty enough, but they needed something more flavor wise and definitely needed to be crispy. I don't want a soggy dish when I'm ordering something fried. 2. Bruschetta: very fresh and flavorful! The bread wasn't insanely hard either. I would get this again. 3. Fried Artichokes: I thought "crispy and comes with an aioli? Sign me up!" when we ordered these. However, these were just okay too and lacked flavor and crispiness throughout. 4. Potato Croquettes: The star of the appetizer course! DO NOT SKIP THESE! Cheesy potato goodness with a truffle sauce. We would definitely order these again. 5. Fungo Pizza: The pizza crust is absolutely delicious. I wish there had been more flavor in this pizza and I think I'll go with a red pizza next time. However, I did enjoy it and it had a nice subtle spicy kick to it. 6. Oxtail Fettuccine: This dish was fresh and came with a generous portion. While I enjoyed it, I was indifferent. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it. It tasted like a normal pasta dish, but nothing about it stood out. However, I had some leftover and when I ate it a few hours later, it was 10/10!I would drive back there just to get the oxtail fettuccine! I think the secret was that the spices and sauce got to absorb and set a bit better. The leftovers were amazing and I wished I had more leftover! 7. Desserts (tiramisu, mango sorbet, and profiteroles): Two of the desserts were tasty. My friend enjoyed her mango sorbet. The tiramisu was yummy, but nothing outstanding that I would want to get it again. We shared the profiteroles and it's basically the profiteroles buried in vanilla and chocolate whipped cream. We both agreed that while it wasn't horrible, it wasn't great either. Soggy profiteroles buried in cream wasn't the best. Overall, a great visit and a satisfying meal. One side note for the restaurant: when you ask if we wanted some grated Parmesan with our meal, we were expecting freshly grated Parmesan. We didn't expect the Parmesan "powder" in a shaker bottle like they give at round table or Pizza Hut. Heck, even Olive Garden grates the cheese fresh for you. if I could add this place to The Best Thing I Ever Ate, I absolutely would! If you love Italian food, this is the spot to go! From the start, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. My mom wasn't a fan of our initial seating area, and without hesitation, they happily accommodated her request with a smile. We actually came here because my little niece wanted pizza, and I'm so glad she did because everything we ordered was beyond delicious. And not just because we were hungry--it was genuinely fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. We started with appetizers: burrata and prosciutto, bruschetta, and meatballs. Oh my goodness--the meatballs were melt-in-your-mouth tender, the sauce tasted so fresh, and the tomatoes on the bruschetta were like they had just been picked from the garden. Simply amazing! For the main course, we ordered two pizzas: the Margherita and the Bufalina. Both were fantastic, and next time, I'm definitely coming back to try the fettuccine oxtail! No matter what you order, you can tell everything is made fresh, homemade, and with love. And let's talk about dessert--you have to save room! Boo on the Burrata! Now I understand why this place is sitting at a cozy 3.9 stars... Just left there, and I'm not too thrilled -- especially with the Manager. We ordered the $16 Burrata appetizer and it showed up with two tiny slices of bread that looked toasted but weren't even warm. The burrata was stone cold like it came straight from the freezer. No balsamic glaze, no EVOO -- just a lump of cheese with soft dry bread. Not exactly what I'd call an "appetizer." We each took one bite and told our server we weren't feeling it. Instead of offering to swap it out or remove it from our bill, they hit us with: "Sorry, we'll let the chef know." How about letting the bill know? Once our drink and appetizer orders were placed, we took in the casual elegance and pleasant ambiance of the overall restaurant. Very fun, upbeat atmosphere with exciting buzz. Best of all, Doppio Concord seems to pride itself on swift delivery: our tasty Bruschetta arrived without delay and shortly after, our delicious Calzone and Pera Salad, which I opted to top with fresh shrimp. The ginger ale I ordered was flat. I ordered it twice and it didn't change. Since my group had a lot to talk about, we were there for 4 hours. I ordered Gelato and decaf coffee. Our group was a party of five. We arrived on a Friday night at 6pm. We anticipated a great meal since our earlier visits were memorable. What stood out during this visit was not the entrees or drinks, but our server! He was gracious and attentive. During this visit, we wanted to try some new entrees. We started our meal with ordering the same familiar appetizers that never disappoint and we always enjoy them. Appetizers *Potato Croquettes - 5 Croquettes Homemade Potato Croquettes breaded with gruyere cheese, parmesan cheese, leeks, parsley served with truffle fondue. Always delicious! *Calamari and Shrimp Deep fried calamari and shrimp served with tomato sauce Lightly battered and seasoned well. Enough for 2-3 people! We enjoyed this! DRINKS Things starting going downhill when we ordered the drinks. Three individuals of our group ordered ice tea. The ice tea was not fresh and had a soapy taste. The waiter brought some lemonade. Again, the three individuals were surprised to discover, the lemonade had a slight soapy taste. ENTREES Filet Mignon 8 oz seared filet mignon served with baby potatoes and broccolini and Chianti wine reduction demi-glaze. The Filet Mignon costs $42.00. The individual who ordered this said it had a lot of gristle. He was surprised because a filet mignon should not have gristle. He would not order this again. He felt the demi glaze sauce was on the bland side. The filet mignon was a disappointment. Marechiaro Homemade squid ink tagliolini, jumbo scallops, clams, roasted garlic in light spicy tomato sauce It sounded delicious, but the entre itself was not a memorable experience because it just didn't taste good. The jumbo scallops were cut into small pieces and couldn't taste the garlic. The clams were fine. I would not order this entrees again because the flavor was bland. Bistecca 12 oz grilled Black Angus rib eye steak, served with a side of french fries and an Italian green sauce. This was ordered as medium rare, but initially served as rare. It was returned to be cooked to medium rare and when it was returned, it was delicious! This actually was the only entree that was enjoyed. Zuppa Di Pesce Seafood stew,clams, calamari, shrimp, fresh fish in a light spicy tomato broth. Served with crostini. Salty, just too salty. We would not order this again. Branzino Seared Mediterranean Sea bass filet over fregola sarda and black Tuscan kale, Italian herb sauce. The filet was so thin! It lacked the tenderness of a thicker piece. The seasoning was ok. The person who ordered this felt he was eating a thin "strip" of bass. He was disappointed. The greens tasted rubbery and weren't easy to cut . The rice was flat tasting. FINAL THOUGHTS We eat out a lot and always appreciate meals that are memorable. Tonight was not that type of experience. We spent $250 for a meal where only one entree and two appetizers were enjoyed because they were actually delicious. It says something to have spent so much money and be disappointed in not just one item, but multiple items. When the entrees turned out to be disappointing, we had thought about ordering a few pizzas, but in our previous visit, the pizza was a huge disappointment. We didn't want to take a chance of spending so much more money for pizzas just to be disappointed again. Not sure if we want to return unless we just want appetizers. read more

Pleasant at first but seemed impatient waiting for us to decide but tried to hide it. Came back to our table one time very quickly. I've eaten here a few times and it's always been very consistent! Definitely prefer all the pasta dishes! The seafood squid ink pasta is my favorite. Any ravioli dish they have is also stellar. Il Ragu dish is not as good as the seafood pasta or raviolis. The pear salad is also yummy and fresh! All the apps are good (calamari, brocollini, etc). Not sure why the pizzas are award-winning; I always find them to be a bit soggy so I prefer ordering the pasta dishes. I've probably had most of the pizzas and the standout ones are the jalapeño, diavola and fungo. Great happy hour that doesn't end at 5pm for people who work until then! I spoke with Laurie the Manager, who took umbrage and attempted to throw mw out of the restaurant when I asked to her to come to the rest room to check it out and she refused, accused me of yelling at her. We had the nectarine salad to start which was light and refreshing on a hot summer evening. For entrees I had the oxtail fettuccine. The meat was so tender and bursting with flavor. Hubs got the squid ink seafood pasta which was loaded with fresh seafood. My MIL had the asparagus filled ravioli special with fava beans and crispy prosciutto. She enjoyed that they had gluten free options for the pasta. We ended with the special pistachio gelato which was two large scoops and incredibly tasty.
