I ordered the roast pork over rice through Grubhub after seeing a lot of positive reviews, but unfortunately my experience didn't live up to the hype. The biggest disappointment was the roast pork itself. One of the things that makes roast pork stand out is the crispy skin, but mine arrived soft and chewy rather than crunchy. The portion initially looked generous, but after digging in, I realized it was mostly rice. The pork was sliced on a diagonal, which made it appear like there was more meat than there actually was. To be fair, there was enough food for two lunches, so the portion size wasn't the issue. The problem was that the quality didn't match my expectations. Based on the reviews, I was expecting juicy pork with crisp skin and bold flavor, but what I received was underwhelming and left me wishing I had ordered elsewhere. Maybe the food is better when dining in or ordering a different dish, but this experience was disappointing enough that I don't plan on returning.

The result is hot fresh food.....dishes and meals that are cooked to order. This the real chinese fast food, not that pre-made food that sits on steam tables for hours. Add friendly service and affordable prices, and you get a popular place to grab a quick delicious meal. That's why Do Eat has a great Yelp score! I was here on a Wednesday night just before closing. I decided to grab an order of Beef Chow Fun to take home. The lady was super friendly as she pointed to the menu. She said "B-1.....$15 cash." It took me a minute to find it on the menu. She said it would take 5-mins. I could see the kitchen in action, with the hot wok in use. As I waited, the lady offered me a sample of their roast pork. The skin was super crunchy and the meat was juicy. I was tempted to buy some! The Beef Chow Fun was hot and loaded with tender noodles and lots of beef. Napkin and fork included. This place looks to be mainly takeout, as there's only two tables inside. The lady said they will be moving soon, to: 4994 Mission St SF
This place is amazing! My mom was telling me about this place and I finally went and tried it... omg it was delicious! I ordered half duck and half roast pork rice plate and after also ordered a whole duck to take home. Service was fast and excellent! The place isn't big and is typical of the small mission seat setting but there are tables and seats if you eat in.
Down street from me, portions are plentifully! Service is top notch and the food is great! Roast duck and roast pork over rice and some veggies and sauces on the side!hadda get 2 orders of it for the next day!
The food is great and very tasty!! I ordered the trays for a birthday party and my guests love the food so much. The bbq pork （叉燒）is a must, and love the soy sauce chicken, they can make it boneless for you so easy for the kids birthday party. And I added the broccoli beef tray in the last minute like an hour before the party, and they still can make it happened. Recommend this restaurant for sure. And the staff are very nice and friendly, this is a family business restaurant, love it. Also, my friend said the bbq pork is much better than the restaurant in Sunset district love it love that the food got so much compliments from it.
I got soy sauce chicken and crispy roasted pork to-go. The pork was a bit too salty and fatty for my personal taste, but it was very standard roast pork. The soy sauce chicken skin was flavorful, but the meat could have been marinated for a bit longer. Overall, pretty decent Chinese bbq shop. I would come back again to give it another try!
Family run hole-in-the-wall Chinese BBQ deli business in the Excelsior. Real Mom & Pop-run behind the scenes while their daughter, Vicky, manages the operations. Loved the enthusiasm, comfort and love exuded here! That's 5.0 to start! This is a good neighborhood spot for Sui yuk, Char siu, Roast duck, Soy Sauce chicken, and more for lunch and dinner. Appreciate the rice plates to have a quick meal and/or have a good sampling of their offerings. Ordering can be challenge in English but their kindness and patience shows through. Their daughter, Vicky, was quick to step in and help. If ordering the counter items it's rather simple, point, quantity, and quick. I ordered other dishes to go so there was a wait. Did not try their Roast Duck which is their specialty. Next time! Ordered: ROAST PORK (SUI YUK) BBQ PORK (CHAR SUI) CHICKEN DRY-FRIED CHOW FUN BITTER MELON W/BLACK BEAN SAUCE The best of the take away order was the BBQ pork/char Sui (counter item) and the bitter melon (special order), stir-fried w/onions in a black bean sauce! Chicken chow fun (special order) had barely any chicken and more bits of BBQ Pork which was fresh. Fun noodles were fresh and okay, not sure I'd order it again except if it's on the steam tray at the counter. Sometimes it's better on the steam tray than special order. Don't know why but It happens. The Roast Pork was disappointing because the skin of the Roast pork/Sui yuk was wonderfully crispy, crunchy but when I bit into the pork, the fat, normally clean tasting and almost crisp in an odd way, was fatty, soft and dull. Somehow the pork itself was fine and the skin crispy but the fat was not quite done. Don't know how this happened. But pan-fried the rest of the roast pork and it was fine. Given the accolades to this place I'd chalk it up to a one off moment and I'd give it a try again. Overall 3.5. Fix the roast pork then it's up to 4.0 or more. Parking is the biggest challenge in this neighborhood so most of their customers live nearby. When in the neighborhood I'd come again to try their Roast Pork, BBQ Pork, and to sample their famous Roast Duck!
Found this place in Uber eats that has a pretty good bogo offer. The food is pretty good and they give very large portions. whenever we're in the area, my dad, especially craves the food here. The duck and pork belly are good. Appears to be family owned, so I really appreciate being able to support this place. The lady who takes care of my orders is always very, very nice.
This is a to-go restaurant with no tables to dine in inside. It's a mom and pop shop and the owners are SO nice! I placed an order through Yelp and was able to pick up my food in a timely manner. I personally think their combo deals are on the pricey side ($18 for 2 items over rice and $22 for 3) but it's the economy nowadays lol ;c Spicy shredded chicken - Actually spicy! I added more fish sauce when I got home but it tasted just fine without it. Soy sauce chicken, roasted duck, bbq pork - Incredibly fresh, saucy, and the texture was perfect. Tasted delicious too. **These owners are honest and transparent! She prepared my orders (half soy sauce chicken, half spicy shredded chicken) in front of me and did not steal any parts for their personal use. Thank you!**
had a chinese fried chicken wing craving and called in a take-out order of Pork Bone Soup, Chicken Wings, and Chow Mein. was ready within 10 minutes, and everything was delicious! HIGHLY recommend the fried chicken wings, and the bone broth stood out as well. Everything was priced very well for the generous portions given, the folks who run Do Eat are so kind (and also forgiving+patient with my elementary cantonese skills )) and i enjoy that my partner and i are recognized as repeat customers now; picking up from Do Eat always brings us smiles AND good food to bring home. my top Do Eat recommendations thus far: siu yook (crispy cantonese roasted pork ), pork bone broth, fried chicken wings, spicy shredded chicken, and fresh bbq pork ! there is limited seating and it's definitely more of a take-out spot, so if you get the fried chicken make sure you open the lid a lil to keep that crispyyy
Placed an order at Do Eat Restaurant through DoorDash. Ordered the BBQ Pork ($18.99), Roast Duck ($20.99), Chow Mein ($6) and Pork Bone Soup ($6). Both the BBQ Pork and the Roast Duck were juicy and flavourful and most importantly for the BBQ pork - crispy! Sauce does not come with the order so if you want sweet and sour plum sauce, remember to add it before you check out. The Pork Bone Soup was flavourful and very comforting on a cold night. Last but certainly not least, the Chow Mein was Shanghai-style which I loved! Perfectly chewy and a generous portion for the price. I will definitely be re-ordering from here!

I've had Do Eat on my bookmarks for awhile and I'm finally in the area and in need of takeout! Wow I guess I haven't ordered roast duck in a long time because somehow, it's now $30 for a whole -- wondering how this compares to other places? They also had different types of whole chicken that looked really succulent so I ordered that as well for $30. The lady was really nice and honestly, I've never seen a lady butcher before. She says she'll be moving soon but after reading other reviews, it seems she's been saying that for about a year now! Parking can be difficult in the area. I don't think there's other Chinese BBQ places in the neighborhood as competition so there were lots of takeout orders for Do Eat. The owner is super friendly and chatty in Cantonese. She also promoted their roast pork to me and after trying a piece, I knew I had to take home 2 pounds!! As for other reviewers who said their roast pork wasn't crispy, it's because they ordered it as a rice plate so of course when the roast pork touches steamed vegetables or is laying on top of steamed rice, by the time Uber delivers your takeout, it's not gonna be crispy anymore -- duh. I had mine in a separate container and it was still absolutely delicious after a 30 minute drive home. $18/lb though so it's not cheap but more of a treat. read more

Usually the braised pork belly doesn't come out all black, the lean part of the meat is inedible, it's hard and dried up, the little fatty part is the only edible piece to eat but the flavor tastes burnt, waste of money. If the food comes out like this why serve it? Seemed like old braised pork belly re- steamed till charcoal. Disappointed. read more

Friendly, simple, fast, generous! My mom likes when I grab her Chinese food in sf (we live in San Jose). She's not picky where but I tend to get her salted fish fried rice, beef chow fun and/or roast duck. I try to go to new places! When I saw this highly rated spot in Excelsior, I decided to check them out. I lucked out with street parking right in front! I ordered the $14.50 combo plate that has roast duck and roast pork. The portions were generous! I was super excited. I tried some in the car while it was all fresh and warm. The pork was perfect, fatty but not oily. Crispy skin. The duck is less salty than most places but I personally prefer and enjoy that! You can taste the duck more I guess? Again, the protein had some fat but didn't feel greasy. I also like that they added broccoli. Look, I know this meal ain't the healthiest in general but the broccoli adds some color, freshness and a little guilt relief! High impressed with the customer services and foods at this Chinese takeout. Vicky is very accommodating in helping choose the foods for for our catering takeout! For example, I ordered a small size of tofu eggplant to sample, and she used firm and soft tofu and let me select which I'd prefer. She also let me order a plate with various BBQ meats to try. Do Eat sells a variety of roasted meats ( ) . This is located in the Excelsior district and parking will very tough. Street parking is very hard to come by but you might get lucky with metered parking. There is a small dine-in area , but it's a great place to grab quick lunch and go. They do run out of roasted meats towards the end of the evening especially crispy pork. I've been here a few times and they ran out of crispy pork last time. I love their combos over rice, very reasonable priced for the amount of food you get. The combos come with daily veggies as well. * famous crispy pork - MUST GET! they are known for it and it is delicious. * BBQ pork - good , tender, and juicy * Roasted duck - It's pretty good, the flavor is tasty, but not as much meat this time around, just wish there are more meat. The first time I went, it was really meaty and not all bones. * Soy sauce chicken - you can't go wrong with this, it's juicy. Ask for extra sauce , sometimes they will give you the roasted duck sauce and it's DIVINE. I poured that sauce over the white rice and guarantee you will eat all your rice. Very rare but this restaurant takes credit card! I hardly carry any cash with me so I love coming here to grab a quick meal. Omg! This place serves some amazing roast meats and roast ducks. Absolutely delicious! I have ordered a few times from them through delivery app as they are far from me, but I like almost everything. I've received the roasted duck with completely different from before I've had. Under roasted and did not get any tasted at all! The whole duck was just like boiled with soy sauce! I ordered by Uber Eat many times for this item but this is the 1st time I have this issue. Please give me a feedback as soon as you guys read it! We're a block away and thought this would be a quick, easy, cheap option for dinner. Out of 3 adults who ate this food, 2 of us had some stomach problems later that evening. THE WAIT We stopped by around 5:30pm on a Sunday. They gave a 5-10 minute estimate, but it really took 15-20 minutes. THE FOOD * Water Spinach - 2.5 stars Veggies were old, you can tell by just the color. A little hard to chew through. * Rice Noodle Beef - 3 stars Meat was soft, but the rice noodle were way too thin and stuck together quite a bit. * Fried noodle with BBQ Pork - 3.5 stars Pretty good pork, just wish for a little more sauce and some more veggies besides the three big pieces of broccoli! read more

Doesn't look like much but it's a healthy, hearty meal that's tasty too! Meats are cut perfectly. Meat quality is good and each piece is a perfect balance of fatty yet meaty so each bite is tender yet flavorful. Such a classic Asian butcher shop and high quality. Pretty solid portions too! I wanted to try the duck but other deals were too good to pass up. BBQ Pork & Teriyaki Chicken Over Rice - teriyaki chicken is light and not doused in teriyaki sauce. Not your classic Japanese teriyaki of course but the chicken is tender, fatty, and delicious. BBQ pork is the classic char siu but it's fatty and tender here with a mild honey glaze. It's also sliced thinly. Comes with a small amount of steamed broccoli to feel healthy though the broccoli is nothing special. Overall, a filling and delicious meal, I could've probably made two meals but wanted to finish one plate. Crispy Pork - my goodness this was almost a perfect crispy pork. Not that I have anything to improve, but I'm not quite sure what perfect is yet so this is one of the best I've had. The pork skin on top is extra crunchy and crispy, each bite has a phenomenal texture. Below that is a fatty chunk that's juicy and then some meat that's charred to give another semi-crispy texture with great flavor. read more

My bf and I stumbled upon this place one day last fall when we were in the area and fell in love with their roast meats. The bf loves eating roast duck and when we had theirs, it was one of the best we've had. The duck was meaty and juicy and the skin was crisp and didn't have any of the little prickly bits that you sometimes find left behind at other roast duck places. The duck also didn't feel really greasy like other ducks I've had before. We also get their roast pork pretty regularly which also has a great crackly skin and just the right amount of fat to meat ratio. Got their BBQ pork as well when we picked up meat from them for Christmas dinner last year to share with my parents but I give the crispy roast pork the edge. It's been a regular place for us to go since we first discovered it. I only wish it was a little closer to my house because it's just past the edge of what I would consider walkable haha. Parking could be slightly tough but I've been pretty lucky on my trips to find a spot not too far away. We went on vacation out of the country for almost a month recently and the roast duck and roast pork was one of our last meals before we left and one of our first when we returned haha. read more

This is one of my regular takeout/delivery spots. The roast meats are on point and the price is fair. I can feed a family of four for around 40 dollars, which is almost impossible in SF outside of ordering fast food. The duck and the hand torn chicken are my favourite things here. The braised tofu and char Sui is also good. They have char Sui pork jowl here and is worth giving a try as that cut is more difficult to find. read more

Wow - the food was incredible. I walked in and a little girl took my order - just so adorable. It was so sweet to see this family business and support. The duck was crispy and sweet, the chow mein was delicious, the pork belly crisp and tasty. I wish this spot was closer to my house because I would go back once a week. Even when I walked in, another customer at the counter said "have you had this before? It's really really good!" We also got the fried chicken wings, which was my personal favorite. If I am in the area again, I will certainly return. read more
Classic Chinese dishes like BBQ pork over rice $12 is one of my sentimental favorites. When I see BBQ meats hanging in the window of a shop, I get vulnerable if I'm hungry. Do Eat's version pays homage to this dish with soft BBQ pork, oily vegetables, a bed of rice and BBQ pork au jus poured over the rice. Not dry at all. I prefer the fatty pieces because it has more flavor. Service was excellent. read more

** The following review reflects my recent takeout experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Back in the day, Aretha Franklin used to sing about being a "Do Right Woman" probably to some no-good man. Well, for whatever reason, that song was in my head as I saw the name of this Excelsior chicken shop. I wanted to sing out..."If you wanna Do Eat home days chicken (chicken)...You've got to be a Do Eat, all-night man (man)". I am that man, and here was a place that looked to satisfy my poultry passion. You can tell they take their chicken seriously by the booming sound of the cleaver the moment you walk through the front door. All the hanging chickens and ducks were the other dead giveaway, you should pardon the pun. Spontaneously I just decided to order the $26 Whole Salted Brined Chicken because "If you wanna Do Eat chicken...". The older woman took a plump one and hacked at it like a "Friday the 13th" movie. They put it into a plastic to-go bag which I walked home for the next hour or so. It was salty good stuff, and when they say "whole", they aren't kidding. Beaks, head and feet were included.
