The soup was not tasty . Their Angel Wings service was ok. The place was noisy from the conversations.

Bitter melon with spareribs over rice

Our first time to BBQ King. We arrived around 11am on a Friday and most of the tables were taken. We live in Sacramento and my sister lives in San Francisco and had been there years ago when she said there were different owners. They gave us the Breakfast menu but we requested for the lunch menu as we were interested in the rice plates! I ordered the Scrambled Eggs with shrimp over rice and the shrimp were extremely large and plentiful! My husband ordered the Bitter melon with spareribs over rice and he said the bitter melon was excellent as it was fresh and not frozen still crunchy and not overcooked! My sister had the choice of 2 over rice and she chose Roast Duck and Roast Pork. It looked like a 1/4 of a Duck but she would ask for the pork with some fatty because it was so lean that it was kind of dry. We can't wait to bring the family because they also have 2 large round tables. We all know what we're ordering next time we're in town. The place was very clean! Tables were cleaned up as soon as the customers left!

Sautéed Clams w/ Black Bean Sauce $18.99

Arrived at 6pm on Saturday and the place was kinda empty. Service was very friendly and attentive. It's a little cold here. Most tables seat 4 with one medium round table in the back and two bigger round tables to the side for large parties. I dunno that these dishes were the best choices and they all tasted pretty standard: $15.99 Sautéed Chinese Green w/ Garlic Sauce $18.99 Sautéed Clams w/ Black Bean Sauce $15.99 Supreme Chicken half $23.99 Crispy Fried Whole Flounder Sole -- this was the most expensive, yet there was hardly any meat on the fish $22.99 Roasted Pork & Oyster in Clay Pot -- this was the best dish and had LOTS of oysters $16.99 seafood soup (not pictured) Total price $131.34 for 6 -- I was definitely not full and in search of dinner #2...

This place reopened with a different name and more or less the same food. Prices are up & its more of less $20 a head to eat here.

I really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt even after hearing from others about the recent ownership change and renaming of this once-great BBQ place here on Irving, but sad to say, the word of mouth is correct. We sampled their BBQ Pork just to see... BBQ Char Siu Pork: Oh my, while the BBQ pork looks good, the pork seems of low quality and is tough. The marinade seems to just stick on the outside and feels slapped on after the fact, even though it probably isn't. Bottom line - it was tough, gritty and lacking in any serious flavor. I wish this was much better than it was. (Score: 1.8/5) Maybe we just chose the wrong thing on the menu, but any Chinese/Asian place that calls itself "BBQ King" needs to excel at Char Siu BBQ Pork. There are tables inside to consume your meal, and friendly butcher and counter help you will find here, but there is a lot of room for improvement here on food quality. I hope they step up their game on the BBQ pork. Ever the optimist, I hope their other stuff is better!

My brother told me about BBQ King as a newer restaurant that took over a former Chinese restaurant spot that was worth a try. I really like the roast duck here. It tends to be meaty and is served with a side of sweet and sour sauce. I also tried the short ribs on a sizzling platter. It was good but I prefer the short ribs from the Korean barbecue better. I also had the Chinese broccoli with garlic sauce. That was good, too. The service was good. I usually like sitting in the rear of the restaurant because the front can be a bit cold and windy when the door opens. I look forward to returning:)

Love love the bbq duck and cha Siu here. Omg run don't walk when you're hankering for Cantonese bbq. Next door to Texas bbq. Can you do both in one sitting ??? Every thing in moderation I say. Service is friendly. Ambiance is busy Cantonese bbq spot. JYW highly recommends

If a place advertises BBQ, then that's what my review will be. It was edible and not heavily greasy like many Chinese BBQ spots. Food came out quick too.

Was recommended by some locals at a nearby coffee shop to come check out this new restaurant. They mentioned that the wonton noodle soup was pretty good and affordable. It looks like the new restaurant is selling the same foods as the previous restaurant, which is Cantonese style food and BBQ with a deli in the front. Came by on Monday around 1pm for lunch and wanted to give the wonton noodles a try, but unfortunately the wontons were not ready; they were still mixing the meat filling and haven't wrapped them yet. They seem like new restaurant owners as they didn't have a lot of the dishes available yet since they either don't have the ingredients to make it and/or it hasn't been prepared yet. So I ended up getting: 1) Roasted Duck with Rice Vermicelli(4.8/10) - This was okay. It came with a lot of rice noodles, probably 2 servings worth along with some veggies and the roast duck. The roast duck was a bit disappointing since the skin wasn't crispy and the duck itself was kind of cold. Flavor for the roast duck was good, but everything else was just mediocre. The soup was also very bland. My friend ended up getting the beef brisket with egg noodles. He said the beef was tender, but flavor was just okay. The egg noodles were a bit soggy and slightly overcooked. Service was okay as well. We were seated fairly quickly and brought over a tea pot. They still were figuring out how to place orders on their iPads. They are fairly new and still working out the issues and getting in the groove of things. Be patient and I would say give it a few more weeks for service to get better and hopefully they have their ingredients prepared and ready by then. Will revisit if in the area again to give their wontons a try, but with Hon's Wun-Tun House opening soon nearby, they have some tough competition. Their pricing for their dishes are reasonably affordable though.

We were looking for a lunch spot and happened upon this place in the Sunset. The meat hanging in the window looked very good, and since I was in the mood for Char Sui, we decide to give it a try. Inside there were quite a few customers and although the place is pretty Spartan and it's decor, it had a welcoming vibe. All our dishes which included the dry braised, green beans, Char Sui, and the Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles were very good. Because the staff really liked us, we got a complementary roast duck with plum sauce. All the dishes were great. Very flavorful and fresh. If you're in the area, this newest place is worth a try!

    Pork and egg porridge

New Chinese bbq place with tons of lunch options and dishes in general. Got the pork and egg porridge, and a combo rice plate with roasted duck, pork, and soy sauce chicken. My favorite thing ended up being the rice and cabbage. Everything else was fine, but I wouldn't be craving it. There's a lot of competition for Chinese bbq in this block. This place does have a lot of options though.

Cute little family-run Chinese restaurant in the area that is clean and tasty The braised tofu with mushrooms and vegetables was fresh, light and delicious. Tofu was freshly flash fried and drenched in a light brown sauce. Roast duck was my favorite - juicy meat & crispy skin & generous portion. Staff are friendly Roasted pork & oyster clay pot - oyster was meaty and delicious, sauce was slightly too salty Dried scallop fried rice was light and not overly oily like other places Overall would highly recommend & love supporting mom & pop restaurants

The brisket is tender, smoky, and always disappeares way too fast. The hot link has perfect snap, the chicken is alwayss juicy, and the bao bun (side of pickled onions) is always a standard on all our orders. The sides, oh the sides, mac & cheese and potato salad are exactly what great BBQ sides should be. Don't forget the cornbread muffins either. And special alert: the brisket chili deserves its own spotlight. This is a family-run operation, and it shows. Great people, great food, and a fantastic addition to our side of the city. My advice: don't sleep on Smokin D's, place the order and always ask for extra BBQ sauce. Thank you, Smokin D's, for keeping San Francisco smoked, sauced, and happy.

I will say that when ordering, the process is super slow, and the service is slow as well. Once you taste the food, you'll be OK with the slower service. After all, this is not fast food. I ordered the grilled cheese brisket sando. You know what they say... Go big or go home! The portion is what I expected although it could've had more cheese ironically. It's also a $30 sandwich so my expectations were fairly high. The bread on the Sando tasted like basic white bread, and they definitely could take this up a notch to enhance the overall flavor profile, plus like I said, absolutely needed more cheese. The meat was tender, very flavorful, but I also found it to be on the sweet side, and I think I was expecting more of that tang that you get from West Coast/Texas, Southern BBQ. It was tasty! Originally my plan was to order a variety of different items on the menu, but I found out the hard way, that they sell out of food fairly quickly, and they may or may not make more. Case in Point, really wanted to try the mac & cheese, but it had been sold out an hour before I got there. I was told they were making more, but it would take an hour. This is definitely a place worth exploring, and I could tell by looking at some of the other diners plates, that other people were enjoying their food. I definitely plan on going back!

In part, it's because I had no idea the old Five Happiness restaurant that used to call this place home had even closed, but, really, I just tend to forget about every restaurant on this block (save for Brothers Korean BBQ). That is, until we heard that they sell Chinese BBQ roast pork and roast duck here, which we're always on the lookout for! Compared to some of the other nearby Chinese restaurants, L H feels a bit bigger in size, but, outside of that, not much about it feels all that indistinguishable or notable. As for the menu, we knew we were going to be trying their Chinese BBQ, but it was nice to see that they have over 140+ dishes to choose from, even despite how it didn't seem like there was a specific signature offering or specialty. Still, with so many options available, it was nice to see just about every Chinese staple dish was accounted for and that there seemed to be something for everyone. -- THREE BBQ ITEM PLATE with Roast Pork, Roast Duck, and Char Siu The dish we came here for, but it was a mixed bag. The biggest issue for me was how everything was cool/room temp, but at least the Roast Pork wasn't bad - a touch underseasoned, but crispy-ish. The Roast Duck was also decent (albeit lean), but the Char Siu was a bit dry. -- BEEF STEW & WONTON NOODLE SOUP with Egg Noodles While the portion size was generous, nothing about this stood out. On the plus side, the wontons were fairly plump and the noodles had a nice bite to them. However, the broth wasn't very rich and several chunks of the beef stew were chewy/tough. -- TOMATO BEEF JI MIEN This didn't do much for me, but, to be fair, I'm not a big fan of the dish in general. Although it came with a generous amount of tomatoes on top, all of the sauce and everything didn't leave much crispiness to the noodles. -- BEEF WITH SCRAMBLED EGG OVER RICE I didn't have a ton of this one, but it might have been the best dish we had. Sadly, some of the rice felt a little firm, but the eggs were cooked exactly how I prefer for this dish and the slices of beef were actually surprisingly tender. Much like the food, the service here was fine, but it seems they may not be as generous as they used to be. While the workers were friendly enough, my relative, who comes here often and is the one who put this place on our radar, mentioned they no longer give free soup with their lunch plates and that the portions looked slightly smaller than he remembered. I personally can't say if that's actually the case or not, so take it for what it's worth, but I also don't have any reason to doubt him either. All in all, even though nothing about L H Restaurant, or their food, amazed us, I can't say anything specific failed us either. Rather, our visit just felt really lackluster and generic. If anything, the most notable thing about this place is how curiously early they close, even on weekends (closes at 7pm). Given all of that, I can't say we have much of a reason to come back, especially in an area like the Richmond where we really don't have to go far to find the same or better. TWO AND A HALF STARS rounded down.

Located on the ground floor of the infamous leaning Milennium Tower in San Francisco's Financial District, INTERNATIONAL Smoke was Michael Mina's fine dining barbecue restaurant collaboration with multi-hyphenate entrepreneur Ayesha Curry. I visited this place once, for a small dinner party hosted by Charles Schwab on Tuesday, October 14, 2024. We arrived shortly after 6:35 PM. The atmosphere was modern, but casual and hip, funky with exposed metal accents popping through concrete floors and columns. Evidently, the fully booked days were behind them - despite the place's popularity as a fun, lively eatery with the occasional celebrity spotting, the restaurant was fairly quiet that night and not a single person was at the bar. We were seated in the spacious Atrium with floor to ceiling windows. INTERNATIONAL Smoke was not your traditional barbecue restaurant. They presented a globally-inspired grill-centric carte inspired by the rich heritages of the co-founders. The globetrotting meat dishes highlighted diverse international flame-cooking and smoking traditions. The ambitiously broad menu intended to take diners on a culinary journey around the world, but, instead, delivered a disjointed and scattered passport. Similar to the food offerings, INTERNATIONAL Smoke's drink catalogue featured some rotating crafted cocktails that leaned into global flavours, such as KUNG FU PANDAN ($18) and MIDNIGHT IN OAXACA ($20). Boozy beverages like TICKLE ME PINK ($19), NEGRONI ($19), and the ESPRESSO MARTINI ($20) were enjoyed by some of my tablemates. A couple of us stuck to the ZERO PROOF potables like the BUZZ FREE BEE ($15) and RASPBERRY FIELDS ($12) of which the latter I found to be delightful. Cool ice cubes, too! Below are a few of the dishes that we ordered: DOUBLE DUCK WINGS ($28) - I don't eat duck, but my dining mates raved over the tender mango-habanero glazed meat that was falling off the bones. BLACK TRUFFLE CAESAR ($20) - This was a substantial serving, and the sweet onion crema, fried garlic, and truffle vinaigrette all worked well together. ROASTED CAULIFLOWER ($18) - Meh. Perhaps my prejudice against raisins and tehina got in the way of enjoying this STARTER. BLISTERED SHISHITO PEPPERS ($16) - There was not a single blister on any of the peppers, so, unfortunately, the expected smoky, charred flavour was completely absent. MISO YAKI BLACK COD ($48) - This order came with two considerable sized filets of the velvety soft and flaky fish served atop mild shishito peppers sitting in a light ginger dashi broth. It could have just been me, but one of the slices looked a bit undercooked. DUNGENESS CRAB GARLIC NOODLES ($45) - Joanna went with this rich, buttery dish of noodles tossed with wood ear mushrooms, generous portions of Dungeness crab, and heavily garlicked. It was hearty, but I didn't see any bok choy mixed in there, which would have disappointed me if I were Joanna. PERI PERI HALF CHICKEN ($39) - Dustin ordered this dish. The poultry appeared to be well marinated, so I can only assume that the deep, fiery acidic flavour with the pronounced smoky element came through in each bite. Surprisingly, no rants nor raves on this from Dustin...who is usually very opinionated. PORK BELLY FRIED RICE ($17) - Not the worst, but not the best. For the small bowl, this was a major rip off. FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS ($15) - Wow, for the price, this should have knocked our socks off, but was pretty lackluster. 8 OZ. CENTER CUT FILET MIGNON ($68) - I ordered this steak plate. The meat was cooked perfectly medium rare, but the taste of the red wine demi and the stuffed portobello mushroom were unremarkable. LEMON OLIVE OIL CAKE ($14) - This did not stray far from the standard olive oil cake, just a touch of lemon added to the cake's flavour + the pluot garnishes. Nothing standout about this, unintriguing. "SMOKED" CHOCOLATE S'MORES ($14) - Not your typical s'mores, more of an elevated take on the campfire classic with a valrhona molten cake sitting atop brûléed marshmallow fluff with a side of graham cracker crumble and a scoop of ice cream. CINNAMON CHURROS ($13) - The accompanying blueberry cheesecake and meyer lemon curd dips were the sole unique elements of this sugar-dusted fried pastry dessert. Without them, this plate would have been underwhelming. Mediocre food at high-end prices aside, table service was friendly. What was all the hype over INTERNATIONAL Smoke? My true guess is that the affiliation with Steph Curry and his basketball friends who would pop in were the big draw...because even with all of the smoking, this place had no fire.

We asked for japchae about 5 times before it actually reached our table towards the end of our meal. The server/manager also told us that he had accidentally brought out 2 bottles of soju for us and that he'd COMP 1 bottle. We didnt notice that he had actually charged us for 2 and comped/subtracted a "third" one. So none were really comped at all. I just realized after we paid and that felt really sketchy. Idk if it's worth coming back here.

I have been wanting to go here forever and it didn't disappoint. We came close to opening time and…read moredidn't have a wait, but by the time we finished there was a line. We ordered and shared the smoked brisket, smoked ayam lumpia, nasi goreng, rujak slaw, and macaroni goreng between three. It was the perfect amount for us. The brisket was super tender and everything was flavorful. The slaw had a good crunch as well. Would definitely come back.

Came here after hearing good things about it and it def hit the spot especially after a long hike…read more I arrived around 12:30 which was def not the worst time as when I got to the front of the line they still had a lot. I honestly forgot how long I waited but we came as a group so I got a beer next door first. The Dino rib def was a 10/10 it was so tender and I love the red onions they give on the side of the bbq. Def get a Dino rib or two over the brisket. Brisket 6/10 - this was a bit dry for my liking but it def did fall apart well. But it's a 10/10 when you eat it with instant ramen (just heat up the brisket in the instant ramen broth and u got yourself a solid meal) PLUS it becomes so soft and tender doing so Cole slaw 9/10 - I rlly liked this it reminded me of Vietnamese Goi (cold salad) and that was really good. Pro tip: there's parking in the back lot and get yourself a couple of beers from the brewery next door while you wait :D
