This place could not be any better if you are looking for that elusive cable, adapter, or other odds and ends. Are you looking for a mouse, keyboard, or other nit picky device? This is the place to go get the stuff without having to pay bigger retail prices. They also have computer monitors, computer guts, speakers, laptop, and electronic accessories a blow your mind. I have only use this place to find small but unusual things like adapters, which is perfect for. The shop is small but it is pretty well organized and open fairly late. However I knock it down a couple of stars because the customer service is usually pretty shoddy. Also there are some things that you can get at better prices online, so do your research. All in all this place is great as long as you know what you need a head of time. Do not rely on the knowledge of the staff. read more

Not a fan of this place. Bought a hard drive last week, first drive when inserted into my computer was only giving Spanish. Second hard drive same thing. Third hard drive is faulty and not compatible with my computer. I had brought in my original hard drive and my laptop, confirmed that it would work. Bought it and brought it to my IT to place Windows and anti virus onto my computer, find out the hard drive is not compatible. Bring it back today to find out that the store refuses to do refunds and will only provide a credit. Will not ever be returning, not because of product but because the inability of customer service! read more

I have been into the Round Rock DE a couple of times in the last week or so, and I have come out both times with exactly what I needed. First time was for a wireless mouse and keyboard set, and the second time was for a bluetooth headset. Both times, Tim and Rico were very helpful and extremely patient with all of my questions. Prices are fantastic, and the return policy is very reasonable for a discount/refurb shop: 10 days to return items for store credit. As there is a butt ton of awesome goodies in the store, I don't think that will ever be a problem. Of course, being the sensible shopper that I am, I asked about the policy BEFORE I purchased anything, something that everybody should be doing, especially in a refurb shop. And I will be back when it comes time to set up my home media center PC. I think one of those small form factor cases will do nicely. Bwahaha. In the meantime, my work desk is now blessedly cord-free, and I no longer strangle myself with my headphone cable every time I get up to write on the whiteboard. Yay. read more

My work purchased this computer for me in January and paid $636 for it. We had no one to transfer the data for a few weeks so the computer sat. Then COVID happened and we had to start working from home mid March and I had to continue to use my laptop to work from home. We finally realized that COVID wasn't going away and all the software on my laptop was hindering my work since it's older versions so I finally got my desktop updated so I could use it and continue working from home. So I literally just started using this computer at the end of May. Last week (last week of July) I started having trouble with it shutting off on its own. It finally completely cut off and I had to take it in. They told me it was the main board that had gone out and replaced it. I picked it up on a Thursday evening. I used it Friday and then it was off for most of the weekend because it's my "work" computer. Monday I turned it on to work from it again and the same thing happened. When I took it in they acted surprised. Two days later they tell me that it's ready and they had to replace the exact same parts. They told they suggested I plug it in a surge protector or I would continue to have this problem. Ummmm, yes it was plugged into a surge protector all 3 days I had it back and it's in the middle of August and we have had no rain! We've had no surges and the other 3 desktops and 2 laptops in my house are fine. My other issue is that during this COVID time their door says they only allow 3 people in yet while I was in there they had 6 customers in there. I had stepped aside to call my boss and see if they took the hard drive out and put it into another computer. Oils we go ahead and buy that so I could work. In doin so I walked to a back corner and lifted my mask enough so my boss oils understand what I was saying. They jumped me for not keeping my mask down even though I had done it in what I felt was a respectable and safe way. Yet at the time they had 6 customers in the store. When I questioned them they said the limit was 5 and that one was leaving. I told them no, your door says 3! They treat you like you are highly infected yet they don't sanitize themselves in front of you to ensure you they aren't infected. Needless to say, my experience has not been pleasant and the only reason I am continuing to use them is because the computer is under warranty. I fully expect that in 3 days I will have the same problem. If so I will take it to their other location. And see if they are any better. If I could give these people negative stars I would. Just a little additional feedback....if something is under warranty they should ensure you that they are doing everything they can to make your repair a priority especially during this time where we are all connected at the hip to our computers. Also, when their warranty work fails in three days they should not insinuate it's something the customer did wrong. I will NEVER personally use this company. read more

I have heard a lot of good things about this company, and a few no so great things. However, I NEEDED a computer ASAP as my laptop went bonkers right as my classes started for college. I went in just to get a cheap-o desk top until I could afford a better lap top (or get repairs). Ended up getting a pretty good deal on a decent desk top and went that route. Hubby wanted me to add on a better graphic card, so I got one. (they even installed it for me, no charge) A short time later, today actually, my computer will not turn on. We pack it all up and shoot on down to RR to get it checked out. Awesome for being open on a Sunday! Leila helped us out, and we quickly discovered it was the power source that went out. Leila, switched it out for us, and we were quickly on our way. It was all covered under our warranty so no out-of-pocket cost to us :-). Now I can finish my school work tonight. Cool thing: On a visit a few months ago, (getting parts or my hubbys desktop) I inquired if they had any chargers for the Nintendo DSi, and yup, they did. Brand new, paid $8. After two years of heavy use, the motherboard on my PC failed. There never was any doubt that I would take my PC to Discount electronics in Round Rock. They have never failed me in the past, and they did not this time either. They gave a quick diagnostic, and agreed that the motherboard was fried. We discussed alternatives to repair, but I opted for the repair. The work was done quickly, and well. I had my PC back in less than a week. Their repair fees are reasonable as are their prices for merchandise they sell. This is the only place that I bring my electronics to when I need repair work. Deceptive, unapologetic, service. I advised unable to access keyboard, after running self diagnostics on Dell computer. Was told diagnostic would be run and status communicated, in fact copy of order states clearly to diagnose. None completed! Upon my 3rd trip to store the manager met me as computer still not operating (correct, it was not tested after replacing keyboard, but said it was)! He literally confirms several times a diagnostic was NOT run, and clearly the test of new keyboard was not checked, as not working. Promises and no delivery. Without apology and yet noting the keyboard was NOT the problem, the manager DID diagnose he could wipe the software for repair, for an additional $50. No thank you, Discount Electronics of Round Rock, TX. You hold no credibility, nor accountability. Please do not take your business to these less than professional, far from brilliant, remarkably poor service providers. Wow, I really should have read the other reviews. So I went to this place to try to receive help with one of my old laptops. An employee whom I don't know the name of examined my computer and saw that it was running Windows XP. I know that support for this version of Windows ended 4 years ago, but it was running perfectly well so I didn't see anything wrong with bringing it here. I told him that I was having some minor issues with updating drivers and right when he noticed the XP sticker, he said, and I quote, "there's nothing I can do, it's dead and gone". If Windows XP was "dead and gone" there wouldn't be millions of PCs still running it! He mentioned getting Windows 7, which I believe was one of his attempts to get me to spend money on a new computer which I don't need. He wouldn't even try to do anything, just rejected an opportunity to do his job. The only reason I give this place 2 stars is because I previously went here and got help with the same computer from a different employee, who obviously knew stuff about computers. read more

I have been shopping here for a while mostly for parts and pieces and recently decided to take in an ailing laptop that I was unable to fix myself. The staff is certainly competent from a technical perspective but I have rarely been to a place of business where I feel my business is more unappreciated. They kind of make me feel like they are doing me a favor to do business with me. The staff is as unfriendly as they come. These guys had my notebook for more than 6 weeks on a simple DC jack repair. I got no updates, follow through on what took so long for the repair. I stopped in to the store to ask the manager what was taking so long, he promised to call me back that evening after looking into the problem, I never got a call from him. When the repair was finally completed, these guys never charged the computer to see if the repair was good. I asked "how do you know the repair is good if you didn't check your work?" Just had my third visit to Discount Electronics, and it was just as satisfying as my previous two. This time I brought in the family desktop, whose case my autistic son has had a habit of smashing. Enough smashing and, lo and behold, it stopped working. I took it in expecting to leave it at least overnight, but the tech opened it and diagnosed the problem (the power supply), installed a new one and I was off and running less than twenty minutes after arriving. Granted, it wasn't the most complicated repair, but the having it repaired so quickly was super helpful, for as much as my son likes to hit the computer, he also loves to use it. So after getting the computer back the second time the computer still would not work and gave us hard drive errors (they installed a new one). And after the terrible treatment we received we called corporate and they suggested we take it to the north austin location. And after speaking with the manager there we decided to give it one last try. This location confirmed that the hard drive that was installed was faulty and they replaced it and did all repairs for free. I feel there is nothing wrong with this company as a whole after speaking with so many people. It is apparent that this location needs to be worked on to say the least. I just bought a $99 Dell refurbished computer. Yes, it is about 7 years old, but it had reasonable speed and operated perfectly. This computer is for an older person who just uses for email, bill pay and an occasional internet search. I wanted to add some memory and a graphicsvideo card from an older unusable computer and Jason at Disoount Electronics said he would put them in for me for free and he did. He then turned it on, demonstrated that it worked and since I had hurt my back he carried the computer out to the car for me. Jason was very professional and is an asset to the store! Have a lot of hard to find computer stuff. Back in December, 13, I bought a 'used' flat screen monitor there, it lasted two days, tried to return it, could not get anyone to come to the service/sales counter to check it it. So, left it there on their counter. Charge is still on my credit card, have not been able to get it removed from my card account. Will try again to get the credit card company to reverse the charge.
