Outstanding Service! My daughter has a medical condition which keeps her bedridden much of the time, with her laptop being her connection to friends and the outside world. On Friday, when it failed to power up, we thought we were in for a long weekend. I called Luis, the owner, who has saved us many times in the past, and he coordinated it so that one of his technicians, David, could meet with me that afternoon. As luck would have it, David had the precise part needed and the repair was done quickly while I waited! This is an easy one. Sometimes when I do these, I'm torn as to how many starts to give. Not this time. This one was easy. Whenever I have computer issues, I call Luis. I've only had to use them a few times. The first time I used them, I had a virus that somehow got past my anti-virus software and completely took over my computer. It was unusable. It wouldn't even let me run anti-virus software or do anything else. I thought "wow, how is anyone going to get around this". I called Luis on a Friday night. I figured I'd get a response on Monday. But, he had one of his guys on it Saturday morning. To my amazement, he was able to log onto my machine remotely and take care of it in no time flat. The other times I've called. Luis has diagnosed my problem and told me to just use some other service or product that would solve my issue at no benefit to him. That is maybe more impressive than fixing the virus. Finding a business with that kind of integrity makes them a real find. Thank you Critical Update. Would not recommend this business to my worst enemy. I dropped my laptop off to have the fan replaced. I was told it would take a few days. It took 2 weeks. The best part is when I got it back it quit within 30 seconds of starting it. I took it to best buy where I was told that the mother board was fried. I called Luiz who said it was my problem. That he would not guarantee their work. So not only was my computer late but its now dead. Horrible business practice. Find a better option. Don't make the same mistake I did. read more

Initially happy with the response time and Luis met with me at my office to discuss my issue which was primarily email security, and computer reliability. The technician followed up in a reasonable amount of time but wasn't focused on my problem (setting up a new computer) instead spent an inordinate amount of time collecting information about my software and hardware, presumably to get me on a monthly support plan. I was surprised to see the bill of 2.75 hours, and when questioned it was met with a very aggressive response from Luis and a threat of collections if the bill wasn't paid in full. I did some price checking and it turns out the basic support and maintenance plan was about 60% more than a local competitor. I would suggest shopping around. read more

I was in the midst of transferring from one company to another and simultaneously having trouble with the issued laptop I was given. Not only was the critical update able to retrieve the information quickly but also took the time to educate me on what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening in the future. There suggestions did not involve upselling me but instead educating me. WARNING!!!! DO NOT GO TO LUIS! Zero star rating from me. Gave our computer to Luis to change out the inside fan that had stopped. We did not us it at all when we realized that it had. Luis' first option for us was to point a regular fan into the ventilation slots on the laptop for a cheap fix. Of course we said no to that option. So we gave it to him so he could replace it with a new internal fan. After weeks of having it (and not updating us on the progress) it comes back with a power cord that's not ours and only enough battery to turn it on to boot-up. When we turned it on the screen lit up for a few seconds then went permanently dead. We then took it to the Best Buy Geeks where they told us our motherboard was fried. Funny, since when we gave it to Luis to work on it was working and he told us that the ONLY problem was the fan. We called to see if he'd back up the work and obviously damage he had done he told us for the most part that we were out of luck. Now, we've lost everything that we had and are out the money for the non-repair and a new laptop. Way to back up your work Luis! You are a crook!!!!! read more
