DON'T HESITATE! These guys are friendly, thorough, and fair. I dropped off several 3-5 year old MacBooks that were collecting dust due to dead batteries. They replaced the batteries, refreshed the OS, did the updates, and gave me back several great performing devices that I can use for a few more years. Bf brought in his pc computer to figure out an issue that UBreakIFix had misdiagnosed and these guys were able to tell us what the issue was as they have special hookups to actually detect the issues. We DID end up deciding to go another route and fix it ourselves as the price was pretty steep for the issue that it was as labor ended up being over $200 for two hours. I took an old laptop to see if that's worth repairing. The owner talked me into replacing hard drive for over $200. Once I brought it home, it appears to can't find the battery which was perfectly fine before the repair. I took it back and now they are asking another $175 to repair/replace a battery connector when they are the only entity ever opened the laptop and battery was fine. They didn't own the issue they created because I brought the system back after 30 days. Most of these reviews are fake cause owner makes customer do the reviews in the spot by offering discount. I had a lot of problems at StarTech PC. First, I bring in my laptop, it's a 2016 MacBook Pro - the keyboard was messed up, they said it would take 5 days to get in a replacement keyboard and total cost was around $300. Well, they took 2 weeks. Not only that, instead of updating me as to the delays, I kept having to call them to get an update - they kept CLAIMING they were calling me to update me but it's 2021, I only have one phone number and it never got a call from StarTech PC - unless I called them. 2 weeks later, finally got the computer back and yes, new keyboard but the B button doesn't work great, and now the battery life (which had been excellent) is pretty terrible. I wasn't expecting a full refund but some kind of discount or some money back would have been nice. Crickets. I had brought the computer back in after I told them about the battery and the B button and no fix, oh well, "there's nothing we can do" sorry, too bad. I was tempted to give the 1* review but there were some aspects that weren't too bad and I don't think they're dishonest, just not as effective as they claimed, and no customer service as they should have offered a partial refund since my computer wasn't fully fixed and still isn't. read more

They told me that they didn't have the right replacement screen for my lap top, and would apply the $300 that I paid for the wrong screen to the new correct screen. Never got the new correct screen and paid them additional $400 for correct screen but their policy is to not give refunds. Even after 9 months of waiting finally they told me they wouldn't be able to get correct screen because they needed the part number. From the original screen. I asked where is my original screen they reply. We recycled it. But we can give you $300 back. I said are you stupid. Can you not do the math ?? I have been a happy customer for a few years, but now I have to say I will never do business here again. They have treated me poorly and because their service is going down hill they need to adjust or fail. Please adjust or please close this business and stop ruining our city culture. The manager was condescending to me and tried to argue instead of listen. The manager passed the buck and denied undeniable truth. I could have held his hand and showed him what they did wrong, but he was not going to listen. He made the wrong call and refused to just listen. I brought two power supplies to them and after the job I did not get either of the two back. I received a totally different supply and little effort was made to find at least one of my two supplies. The job took two months, but I work in a field where servers have to be built out and many of the components come from China. Why did they need two months when I can get server components in days? Why can my company get bad parts and have them swapped out within a week, but this business cannot swap a mother board in two months? Offering to wipe an OS is not the right call. You need to figure out how to do the right thing. I should not have to go home and figure things out for myself. Why should you be ok letting me walk out of your store knowing I have to go boot to a linux live iso and rescue my pc? Why not just tell me how to access the new pc, even if its an empty password, why would you not work through that? You saw how mad I was with your service, your loss of my equipment and yet you just gave up on supporting me which is your job. You claim tech support expertise, but you do not show it. You claim to help your customers, but waiting for much longer and not getting any help is terrible. All of your employees look upset and these days sound unhappy. DO NOT GO HERE!! This is long but detailed and worth it- trust me read it through. Also do note the 1 star review Feb 29th is very accurate to what happened to me. I came in to get my screen repaired. It had once crack on it (hindsight I should have just left it). My phone was working perfectly other than there being a crack. I chose this place due to the good reviews and that I could stop by between work and home (DT to Round Rock). I came in and everyone was sooo nice and helpful and the price was great. The repair took about an hour and cost me a total of about $90 with a new glass protecting screen on top to help. Mind you I have a shock absorbing case from spec that I put on it afterwards that has never failed me (should have had it on sooner....) I got the phone and it seemed to work fine. UNTIL I got home abut 30 mins later and there was a delay in the screen response, the pressure touch wasnt working and parts of the screen wouldnt work at all. I would try to tap to open an app and then it would delete another app as if I was pressing and holding it to rearrange or delete apps. I didnt have time to bring it back the next day so had to deal with basically having a paper weight for a couple days. I went back and the same guys were there and this is what they said: "Oh I can see the issue here. See when we replace the screens we use heat to get it to stay on and sometimes that adds air pockets but we can see this using a black light and if thats the case we can fix it" (ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING KNOWS THIS IS BULL**** but I didnt so I went with it) He replaced the screen for free and within 2 hours and I was off. Guess what- didnt fix the problem at all. Now I was so ready to write a 5 star review but at this point I was heated because my phone isnt working. Its a simple screen replacement. I have done it many times with no issues. So I went back again for the 3rd time. This time it was a new guy I hadnt worked with. I walked in a apologized if I was frustrated and that it wast pointed at him but the situation. I explained all of the above and this EXTREMELY CONDESCENDING Guy proceeded to tell me that "I hear this all the time, people come back in and say my phone was working fine before yall fixed it and now it doesnt work" Proceeding to blame me for the issues on my phone. Well listen here, if ppl keep coming back with issues AFTER you fix it then maybe yall need to close up shop as yall have no idea what you were doing. This guy told me that what the other guy said was garbage and that he didnt know what he was talking about and that they dont use heat.... He said he could replace it again but it will have the same problem (a problem that NEVER existed prior to them touching it) I said no point, they would be wasting time and material and I want a refund to go get it repaired by Apple professionally. He proceeded to tell me he couldnt give me a refund and only a manager could. I asked for the manager he said he wasnt there. I asked for his name which he provided only the first name. I asked for a number and he would not provide this. He said the manager was on vacation and MAY be back next week and I can PROBABLY reach him the following week SOMETIME in the evening. Does this manager even exist? This is highly unprofessional and it gets WORSE! This guy told me to watch how I spoke to him which is HILARIOUS when I was calm and the WORST I said was "hmmm well thats Bullshit" which 1) freedom of speech, 2) wasnt directed at him 3) youre really going to tell me what I said wasnt 10000% accurate to the situation? This guy then told me to go to Yelp and write a bad review to get the attention of the manager to get my refund. I see the manager hasnt replied other bad reviews. 1) Im owed a full refund 2) tall white boy (didnt catch his name) shouldnt be working there as he is condescending and also trashed the company and the manager to me. He said that he is "sick and tired of the same complaints about the company and the manager" 3) coming from someone that used to be a retail store manager and a multi-million dollar business owner- you should make sure everyone knows how to actually remedy a situation and be able to give discounts or refunds when appropriate. This happened about 3 weeks ago and I wanted to cool off before a review and this is still me upset. I ended up going to apple and they did say the damage was due to the repair this place did and I just said forget it and bought a new phone. Now my second time, I had been charged for everything sort of beforehand and I thought that was weird and I was a tab bit aggressive with them in trying to figure out the charges. Save yourself money and stress: do not go here. Do not bring your devices to be fixed here. Do not ignore your instincts that the place looks and feels shady. I brought in a 7 month old iPad because the screen was cracked, and I was quoted $150 to replace the screen. The iPad was fully functional when I dropped it off - it was only a cracked screen. The two day job quickly turned into a six, at which point I spoke to the owner on the phone. He informed me there were "loose parts" inside of the iPad which was causing them difficulty when repairing it. But they were ordering a new motherboard cable (?) and would have it fixed quickly. Keep in mind that the iPad completely worked when I dropped it off. I called back the next day and spoke to the owner again, when he tried to sell me a 2014 iPad for the $150 that I paid for the screen. I understandably felt like I was being scammed, so I went the next day to pick up the device. The owner wasn't there, so I instead spoke with one of his techs. The tech explained that when opening the iPad, they had damaged it and had been attempting to fix it for a number of days. This was never disclosed to me until I showed up. I told them I wanted to be made whole for them completely ruining my iPad when I brought it in for merely a cracked screen, and I was told that the liability agreement I signed upon dropping the device off precluded them from having to do anything. At this point, I just took the device and left. It won't turn on and is a completely useless hunk of glass and metal now. TLDR: broken screen turned into a completely iPad and they refused to take responsibility. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I gave these guys a bunch of PC parts I bought from a co-worker. It took them 5 days to locate some screws that were missing and install the water cooling system, nothing else was done. They said come back the next day. -I call them up so I can get the product key for Windows, they say they don't have one. -the CPU fan was plugged into the CHA fan causing a boot error. Easy fix I shouldn't have to do. -The HDD were not screwed into the drive bays, they were just rattling along in there. They obviously have nobody checking over the work. -Windows 10 cannot automatically repair itself, so now I have to dig deeper and fix this shit at 9pm instead of getting to work. This is the worst PC I have ever received. The whole point of paying someone to do this is so that I don't have to do it. Fail. read more

Don't ever, ever, ever go here. When you walk in the door and see the entire store disorganized, dirty and shady. You will ask your self, this does not look right. It is not. I took my computer to get a new screen, EVERYTHING ELSE worked fine. I got it back FOUR MONTHS later. They lost my hard drive and said the mother board had crashed. The owner James was clueless, cold and rude. When I tried to talk with him about the issue he just wanted to talk with me about all the business he was buying. The so called "work" comes with a 30 day warranty, but if they never, wont fix anything who cares if it comes with a 30 day warranty. When the owner has not idea what is going on, how can you think any one else will care their. Over the four months I stopped in the store 4 times and called 10-12 times. No one would call me back to up-date me. When it was all done, I had to fight just to get my money back. James wanted to give me a store credit. AKA after four months he thought my time and computer where not worth anything to him. Bottom line it was like I took my car in with a flat tire, but everything was running fine - to four months later my engine was blown and my transmission was out, oh and by the way they did not fix my screen either. The owner insisted on a $50 diagnostic test, even though I knew the problem. The owner insisted it could be a million expensive things and tried to sell me on trading it in for one of their (inferior) laptops. Stupidly, I haggled and agreed to let them replace the screen on my laptop. A few months later, my screen is coming detached from the computer bc a bunch of screws were not put back in. Took in to them again. They kept it 5 days. Went to pick up, and they didn't repair anything. Not one single screw was added. They again tried to sell me on a bunch of expensive repairs, but this time with a heavy emphasis on condescending mansplaining. read more

I had my iPhone and iPad screens replaced here. The replacement iPhone screen was malfunctioning which I had to be replaced again. The replacement iPad screen was not put on straight, and my home button got stuck under the screen. I took it back and they told me I must have pushed it too hard (I didn't). They said they would take a look at it and try to fix it. TWO WEEKS LATER I called asking about the iPad. They told me they had called me earlier in the week and left a message (they hadn't) and that the back plate on the home button had broken. I asked how they knew the back plate was broken and they said they took up the screen and saw it. I asked if they took up the screen to look at the back plate, then why is the home button still stuck under the screen? They didn't have an answer. read more

Every single time I bring my computer in to be fixed here, it's not only fixed but it's delivered in the time they say it's going to be delivered. They are a third of the price of Frankenstein computer repair or even discount electronics. The shop is full of used computers for sale and it looks pretty messy inside, but when your computer is dead and you needed to be alive again, just bring it here and these guys will do a great job of bringing it back to life. I was a bit of a computer geek back in the day, and I took my desktop here, when I still used one, because I thought they might do a better job than me. Read that as, I thought I was taking my PC to someone VERY skilled at repair/troubleshooting. However, I found the opposite to be true. The guy that attempted to help me out seemed retarded. No people skills, and no skills with PC hardware. This guy didn't take any precaution against Electrostatic Discharge. And if I recall, he actually worked on my PC on the floor when there was ample table space. Also, while swapping out a video card (or other PCI) for a known working one, he handled both mine and the test card very clumsily. That is, he grabbed the circuit board directly (which risks damaging the Integrated Circuits) instead of grabbing them by the metal bracket. Overall, my PC came away worse than the condition I brought it. I doubt much has changed since then, that is, they still probably hire idiots like this. They probably don't even realize why these people are idiots in the first place. The only reason they are still in business is because the average person knows so little about PCs. read more
