I've replaced my iphone screen here because the place I used in domain shut down. When I got my screen replaced in the past at the domain it lasted 2.5 year before I upgraded and I got a new phone. After I had my screen replaced here for $180 it cracked later that day. Then my face id quit working. I went back in and asked if they would replace it for free because of the warranty. They said no and I once again payed $180 for a new screen. Face ID still wouldn't work. A month later again my screen is broken and I went in to replace it yet this time they charged me $150. Face ID still doesn't work. So I've had to buy 3 phone screens in 2 months. I've never had this problem before. Usually once you replace you are good for years but this place is scamming using terrible screens and will not give a discount or honor the warranty. They do faulty work. Do not go here. They are scamming using screens they know will break so that you have to keep going back. read more

5 stars to 2 star. Let me tell you why. It's true that they gave Joel W. a pretty good hook up on a new computer when his old one died and he was hundreds of dollars into it with the repairs. For that, I'll give them 1 extra star our other experiences didn't warrant. They didn't have to do that, and that was nice. However, the thing is a freaking lemon. They gave us a 1 year warranty on it and we've been back THREE TIMES because, due to various reasons, the system has become inoperable. Unless you're in the situation we were in, I would NEVER buy anything from them again. Also, while I was willing to give them a little leeway on the service times - the last time we brought the computer in, it took almost a MONTH for them to fix it. They didn't even crack it open for 2 weeks. They would say they would call, and they wouldn't. We got to the point that we would stop by there on the way home from work every day so they couldn't avoid us. They made excuses on being understaffed and other blah blah blah, but that gets me through about a week. Maybe 2. Not a month. It's a shame, because I loved Game Gods, I would take EVERYTHING there to be fixed, they were awesome - now that this is where they send us for PC stuff, I'll have to take my business elsewhere. Just don't. Go somewhere else if you want something fixed in a timely manner, or done right the first time, or you want someone that will actually return your calls and communicate timelines. read more

I have had nothing but positive experience with this company. I willingly drive past other repair services to bring my computers here. Both times I have been here my computers came out not as good as new but even better than new if that is possible. One small caveat, they overlooked testing my cd/dvd drive even though i had reported it not working correctly necessitating an immediate return trip back in rush hour traffic but they corrected the problem on the spot. This cost them a star in my rating. I still highly recommend these people and can vouch for the fact that if they can't fix it they will buy it. read more

I recently had to replace the screen to my Iphone 6 and this place was recommended for value and speed. I was told that it only took 30 minutes to replace the screen and it was like $50! Sign me up! Well, I went here before work one morning and well, this strip center looks like a filming location for "Death Wish". I kept waiting to see scary "punks" with rocket launchers to pop out and knock me over and steal my car. That said, I wasn't deterred. I waited for almost 10 minutes after their posted hours of operation before giving up. Not sure what's going on here but seemingly, they're doing so well financially that they don't need to adhere to their posted hours of operation. Kudos to them. read more

My first time there was about eight or nine years ago and the experience was not favorable. I went in for a quote on a broken laptop and was told $20. It was barely two years old. Didn't sell it. Fast forward to yesterday. My boyfriend wanted to sell his 2010 laptop that has a broken power cable but still works perfectly fine otherwise - no issues. We called the store to see if they'd give a quote over the phone - they wouldn't - so we made the trip down there. They guy takes a look at it then says he can't take it because the power cable is "connected to the motherboard" and offered us $5.00 For a 2010 laptop? He said all they would do is cannibalize it for parts because its "too old" to order parts for. (2010!? It's barely 2013 right now.). He then said that then only thing they'd be able to use is the glass and with that he jumped to $20.00 from the $5.00 he offered less than two minutes ago. What's funny is they have the same model on their shelf for sale at $549.00 but they are offering $5 - $20 to buy it? The computer is worth a minimum of $300 online. My boyfriend was just going to accept the offer but I have him "the look" and walked out of the store. He came out shortly thereafter with the computer in hand. We came home and Googled the part that needs to be replaced and guess what.... It costs $8.00 (online so is likely cheaper for a computer "repair" business) and its NOT soldered to the motherboard. The computer doesn't have to be replaced and is NOT too old to order parts for. Never accept the first offer and call them out on their shady practice. You will get ripped off otherwise. read more

If you value your computer, please don't ever take your place here. Was referred to take my laptop here for repair, and I regret it so. very. much. The only reason why this place would deserve one star was the desk/cashier person was nice, although not very helpful. First of all the place itself looks like a slaughterhouse for computers. Against my gut telling me to TURN BACK I left my laptop there for repairs. I called multiple times to see what the status of my computer and was given reasons for delay and etc. After two weeks past the original date they promised on when my computer would be fixed, I got fed up and went to go get my computer back. When I arrived they (surprise) claimed that the required part had arrived and would repair it by the end of the day. I stopped by the time they would be finished, still wasn't done. This went on two more times. Despite giving me a small discount on the final price, I was horrified at the state of my "repaired" computer. The "repair" itself looks like a sorry patch job that even Frankenstein would reject. I asked the desk guy why the final repairs looked like this and essentially all I got was a 'well there is nothing we can really do about it...' So for $200+ my "repaired" laptop has a hinge that is not sealed shut, a rippled computer screen because of improper adhesive sealing and does not stick to the laptop back cover (I had to use binder clips to get most of the screen to stick when I went home), and can no longer close completely. To top it all off, it can no longer detect WiFi. Please save yourself the money, tears, and headache. DO NOT get your computer repaired here because it does you as much good as putting money through a paper shredder. read more

I went to the UT Branch and according to their sign, they should have been open, but they weren't open. I then tried to call the number listed for their other location, but they had the wrong number listed. After looking up the correct number and calling, I was told they had to close that location sometimes because they were really busy and short-staffed. When I told them about the Groupon, which was still valid, I was told they weren't honoring the Groupons anymore. I was at first offered nothing and when I pressed, was offered my original $19 back, and then $50 off a repair, when the Groupon was for a $99 service. After I still complained, I was told, "well, I don't know what to tell you!" Groupon refunded my money because there is no way I would trust them with my equipment after all of this. These guys own iPhone Repair Gods. They broke my phone beyond repair while doing a simple screen swap. The phone worked perfectly fine before they "fixed" it, then it wouldn't charge past 1% and just constantly restart itself. I took it to to another shop and they showed me where these guys had knocked off several components while prying the screen off. They were also incredibly rude. After further investigation it turns out the owner, James Wang, was part of a computer theft ring several years ago ( https://cases.justia.com/texas/third-court-of-appeals/03-02-00686-cr.pdf ). I came in because of the top-notch reviews and initially they were nice to be fair. My overall experience wasn't so great however. After getting my iPhone cracked screen replaced, I could tell the replacement screen was low quality (Force Touch rarely working, regular operations not working in many areas of the screen). The person who I presumed to be a manager mentioned how they did switch manufacturer's recently. Understandable. They replaced it again the next day and I realized it had the same issues + proximity sensor not working at all. Next time I speak with them they mention that it's likely that my phone is the issue and not their screens. I was skeptical because of the varying problems in the two replacement screens and the fact that I've seen how cheap quality screens behave from my time replacing screens years ago but the manager just rolled his eyes as if I was arguing needlessly and being a nuisance. The biggest issue for me with all of this was the fact that the manager mentioned that they thoroughly tested all these issues before handing me the phone; he even mentioned that the 2nd time I came in there were NO issues and they replaced the screen just in case. The thing is, I never gave them my passcode for the first two replacements so I knew he was lying through his teeth. Sure enough, he calls me on an alternate phone while fixing it for the 3rd time and asks for my passcode because "we can't actually test Force Touch capabilities without it". I drove 20 miles one-way to them 3 days in a row and waited a total of at least 7 hours and never received even a semblance of an apology. This was after they completely dismissed my concerns of the initial low quality screens being the root cause, gave me two faulty screens and the fact that they failed to properly connect a proximity sensor. Clearly no "thorough testing" happens here, so I would just be wary of that. read more

I took it to another place and they took pictures of all the prices inside the phone that they broke. I went back to Star Tech and told them what happened and they completely lied and told me they didn't break the phone. It worked perfectly before I took it in and now I have to get a new phone. I came here last month to fix a cracked screen I paid for the repair and to get a screen protector put on. Of course I paid for it so I assumed it was on today I dropped my phone and broke the screen again I went to remove "the screen protector" and it wasn't on there now I have a cracked screen Bc someone forgot to put it on I called the manger said he would have to look at camera footage to see if I took it off or if there wasn't one put on I called back to see what he found on the footage he said he thinks they did but couldn't tell (well that helps) he said he asked the guy that worked on my phone and the guy couldn't remember he said they can replace it but still would have to charge me I asked for my money back Bc I do not want to go back to them again I work and go to school everyday now I have to take the time out of my day for the second time to go get my phone fixed Bc they forgot a screen protector. If it were for me I wouldn't even give them a star This place really sucks. They told me it'll be done in 3 days I called on the 3 day and they said "we we haven't touched it yet." I was okay with that, I went in that Friday, saw a MacBook thinking o they're looking at it and I went up and ask. They said "oh we still have it in the back" what kind of shit?? Honestly. My computer was not looked at or anything. You know what they did?? They took out the parts of my MacBook and put it on another computer that they were fixing. You know how I know because I took it to APPLE that same day to see and that's what they told me. The owner is a SCAMMER! He even charged me $50. $50??? The first time I took my desktop here, they were okay. Charged me extra for a rush fee and then took a lot longer than they said. Despite that, they got it fixed and it worked well for a while. About 7 months later, the desktop had another problem. The hard drive was bad and they told me that they would get another one and for sure could recover all the files. Turns out, they didn't recover any of the files and said they never said they could. However, they agreed to try again. After about 3 weeks of silence from them, I get told they were able to recover files. I went in and they told me I owed over $200. I pushed back and said that it should have been included in the original price, but they refused to do that. I ended up paying the money only to go home and find that the external hard drive they gave me was completely empty and I didn't have anything. It took another 2.5 weeks and many phone calls and messages for them to tell me to bring it back in with my desktop. A few days later, they told me it was ready. Brought the computer home, got it all set up, and all the files were garbage and unable to be opened or used. I tried calling again about this and was told I would be called back. I have not received any call back from them still. I will never go back there after the service I got. I would recommend people stay away from getting anything fixed here. read more

I've always had pretty good service and they've always been fair to me. I've only gone to the Burnet store -not the downtown one. I've dealt with them at least a dozen times over the years. I was lucky enough to live down the street from StarTechPC ... I've been using them for over a year and have had nothing but excellent service... Prices are always very fair and very upfront... I have an older laptop that they recommended to go ahead and repair it...it works like it is brand-new again and they save me hundreds of dollars on holding off of purchasing a new laptop..they cleaned the components and checked my software and it works perfect now.. they saved me hundreds of dollars....that means so much to me!! Shady. Unprofessional. Inattentive. Lazy. They had my computer for way too long for a straight-forward issue that I had described to them upon dropping it off for service. They spent unnecessary time and effort running a hard drive diagnostic trying to fish for more service issues. They failed to call and update the status of my laptop in a timely fashion as promised at least 2-3 times. A number of times it seemed the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing. One guy at counter said he'd call to verify issue, locate appropriate part and call for my blessing to make repairs. The call never came in time as I received a call saying that it was repaired and ready. The call came from a different person than who I interacted with at store hours prior. When I arrived to pick it up, man behind counter said it wasn't ready. I said your co-worker just said it was ready! As in previous visit, counter employee warned I had a failing hard drive. He was alluding to a previously known issue, but was not the reason for the work I was seeking. As I was about to pay for repairs I did not consent to, counter employee tried to get me to trade in my laptop, warning it was going to crash anyway. I didn't take the bait. Computer came home with me and after some cleaning up and updates, it was running like the beast it has been for past 5-6 years. Pester them daily. Make a surprise visit. Log all names and interactions and the dates. Proceed with abundant caution if you must. I do not recommend Startech PC. Hire your techie friend instead. read more

If I could rate them a ZERO, I would. Took my laptop in for a cleaning. Here is the chain of events that followed: 1) Clint: "Your PC is very sophisticated and I need authorization for a Level II diagnostic." Me: ok 2) Clint "We'll have to order fans for you." Me: "Ok, and a new keyboard." "Backlit?" Me: Yes "That will take 3-5 business days for both" Me: ok Clint: "For some reason, your second hard drive isn't recognized." Me: "What?? It was recognized when I took it to you." Clint: "I'll need some time to look at it." Me: "I'll pick it up after work then." 3) Upon arrival Clint still doesn't know what is wrong with my drive (nothing), but, he offers to put it into a loaner USB drive enclosure because I tell him that I am involved in organizing a 2000 person event, and designing 3D worlds. As he flips the laptop onto its' top and removes the bottom panel, I notice 6 screws are missing. Me "Where are the screws that go here and here and...??" Clint: "Oh, good thing you noticed that. They must still be on my desk." Me: O.O Clint: "Oh, and I sort of had to jam your primary drive into the connector - it wouldn't connect easily." Me: "Well, you see this hard-cased cable? It isn't supposed to be routed that way." (It was pinched between the connector and drive.) Clint: O.O 4) I took the Asus G74SX home. Yep, I had the second drive in an enclosure alright, with no USB cable. I called Clint and he seemed surprised he'd forgotten to put that into the box. I drove back to pick it up. 5) Back home again, I called him again, to ask if he might know where my Logitech USB Micro wireless adapter is. "In my pocket," he said. He drove that out to me. Six days later I called them, left a message. The day after that, Clint calls me to say that all the parts are in and he didn't want to call me until everything was there. Me: O.O Me: "Also, you'll need to reconnect the onboard speakers and mic of my *multi-media laptop*!" Clint: "Oh, ok." I took the laptop into the shop again - now into the third week for a laptop cleaning. They have it for two days. I am told that the fans run silently now but Clint wants my login password. I told him that is not happening - corporate and personal data is resident on the system... He seems dumbfounded on how to check if he has correctly repaired audio. Me: "Um, grab any game CD and boot it - if there is sound, you will hear it." Clint: "Oh. Good idea" Clint tells me that the second drive wasn't recognized because its' cable is missing a couple of pins. I tell him that it was fine before he got it. (The laptop is 5-6 months old.) He says they will order the 2-inch ribbon cable at no charge, since I've already paid for the parts and labor. THAT is only fair, being that the system was perfect except for being in need of a cleaning prior to their handling of it. Today I picked the laptop up from their shop again and when I got it home, I found the new keyboard is not backlit. I called. Clint called back and said that he had ordered the backlit keyboard, and that "it must just be a little bitty wire that had come loose" and will be plugged back in when they put the riboon cable in. Other than that, the laptop performs a THERMAL SHUTDOWN BECAUSE THE FANS ARE NOT CORRECT!!! Flee from these idiots! The manager, James, makes excuses and afterall, hired Clint in the first place. As for me, I am pursuing legal recourse and having someone else who is competent fix these grandious, amazing, blunders. read more
