I love the Nashville Hot Chicken! The grits are also a huge winner in my book. Cocktails are good as well. This place would get five stars from me based on the food alone but the customer service is lacking so it's just four stars. Dinner service & wait staff are fine but the restaurant makes you use their online ordering service when ordering to go. In my expereince, the online ordering is broken about half the time. If you call to make an order, they will probably not answer the phone (forcing you to drive up and order and wait in your car or at the bar). If they do answer the phone, you get pushback and they tell you they only take online orders until you tell them the ordering system is down. One time I walked into place an order for food at the bar and the bartender told me I had to order online. Guess what? The online service was down. I'm suprised they don't make the guests sitting and dining at their tables order food online. read more

This was my first visit to Dirks. I came here because of a recommendation from a server at another restaurant in the downtown area. The spicy chicken and their mashed potatoes are life changing. But you can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. Cocktails were really well made. The service was just okay, but the food makes up for it. We asked our waitress if we could speak with the manager about a possible catering idea for our wedding and the manager never made time to come talk to us. Came here with a few people, so we all kind of shared each other's dishes. Super random but simple food menu. Not a whole lot of details so not totally sure all of what you are ordering. Recommend the oysters to start with. There were probably the best in town. I got the shrimp and grits. Was not expecting a tomatoe sause but still alright the grits where definitely the star of that dish. The roasted chicken was amazing as was the chicken fried steak fingers. We stopped by Dirks after Tech football game. Place was busy. Service was great and and everyone was friendly! Husband had rotisserie chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. All delicious! I had the two piece bone in fried chicken. I actually received 4 pieces as they were small. Disappointed with seasoning on chicken as there seemed to be none. I did see some salt on one piece. I got the gumbo as a side. Which was pretty good. The roux was a little too far gone so it was a little bitter but I ate it all. Loved my other side, the Maque Choux (Cajun corn)! Okay I have always wanted to try it but my husband isn't a chicken person . Well today I convinced him . We will definitely be back . Terrible service was told "we could leave" by three different people. I was confused and shocked why they treated us this way after I had heard great reviews. We arrived at 6:30 and still were not served by 9pm. They have good front line employees but their management was shockingly rude. I will never be back and have thirty years hospitality experience. I went to Dirk's this past weekend and heard great things and was excited to try it. Sadly when we got there we waited an hour and a half for a table. When we were finally seated we had to wait 30-45 minutes for food we never got. We never got it because the manager and head chef (who is the owner) were absolutely so rude to me, my mom, my friends, and their moms. I went up to the manager at one point and said "sorry to bother you I was just wondering how much longer till we get our food?" She replied with "it's coming I'm trying to get y'all out of here as fast as possible". Later I was tired of waiting and came back to my table and said I think we should just leave. The chef came over and said "yeah I have no problem with y'all leaving just get up and go". I'm and a Texas Tech student studying Restaurant and Hotel Management and hospitality. So from my perspective which is one that if you work in a restaurant you must always give the best customer service even if you don't like your table and any troubles in life get dropped at the front door. Apparently the owner/chef and manager don't abide by this standard and it's upsetting to see what could be a great restaurant ruined by the people in charge. I will say our waitress was very sweet and apologized for what happened but nor the chef or manager apologized. read more

Drove 15 minutes across town to sit down at the bar and drink a beer and order To-go at 8 o clock just to be turned away because the "chef doesn't do to go after 5 o clock". We tried Dirks recently and while there were many positives, the service we received from a grumpy waitress and the noise made a good meal not so fun. The food was delicious, especially shrimp and grits. The mixed drinks were very good. However, we couldn't hear each other's conversations over the noise. Dirk's is delicious. Menu is small but they pretty much nail every dish, bar spirits and service is top notch. I've seen a lot of bad reviews because of the wait time, rudeness etc. People need to understand, in Lubbock on a Fri or Sat night, you are going to wait for a table if they don't take reservations and you show up after 6/6:30. You'll wait at least 45mins to and 1.5 hours. Everyone is doing their best and I've seen people be rude to their staff while I've waited, really rude. I think people have unrealistic expectations with restaurants that don't take reservations, if it's good, prepare to wait. Food is good, it's fun, go there, get on the list, go to the cotton court and have a drink and head back when they call you that your table is ready. If the wait is too long, go to the Double Tree to eat at their new restaurant or Cotton Court. Settle down people. read more
