I think this is one of the best restaurants in Lubbock, hands down. Dirk's is a chicken joint located right outside of downtown Lubbock. On the side of the building is a mural stylized after Dirk West cartoons with Raider Red chasing chickens, which immediately helps you understand this food is about to be heavenly. I miss my college town favorites since moving to Austin, so it's always a beautiful moment to return these spaces especially with a friend that always generates great conversation. Inside the restaurant are two spaces: the bar and the tables. We arrived a little after 6 pm, and the dinner rush had beaten us there, plus a large birthday party, which gave us a 30-minute wait or immediate seating at the bar. Bar it is! We were immediately seated and served water. They have a full open bar, some select bottled beer options, and draft choices from their sister location, Brewery LBK. The decor of the restaurant is built around cartoonist and former Lubbock mayor Dirk West. The artwork, statues, and other pieces from Dirk's collection give the place a lot of great character. Their menu is slim, and Dirk's is better for it. I love a menu that limits your options because you know everything is going to be done to the highest level. Their options span from different styles of chicken tenders and bone-in chicken, including Korean Fried Chicken and Nashville Hot Chicken, while also serving traditional bone-in chicken and chicken tenders. I've had a few things from their menu, but this time I ordered their traditional chicken tenders with mashed potatoes topped with jalapeño bacon gravy and their fried okra. It felt like the order was placed in front of me before I had finished ordering; it was that efficient. Places that have small menus not only seem to focus on quality, but they can also churn out meals quicker because they're always firing variations of the same thing. Everything in front of me, from their specialty sauce to the large amount of fried okra and their perfectly breaded and fried chicken tenders, was immaculate. The best part of all of it is the price tag. With the rising costs of fast food, Dirk's is not too dissimilar and is ultimately affordable for the value and amount of food you get. I don't know what else to add here. If you like chicken, I cannot recommend this place enough. If you don't like chicken, you were never 8 years old before. RIYL: Chicken with the quality of sit-down restaurants but the efficiency of Raising Cane's.

Alex is our hero, he is the best waiter! The portions here are large for the prices. The chicken tenders were juicy and good. The fried bone in chicken was dry. We did not enjoy the bacon gravy it was oddly sweet. The house ketchup was good. Oh and the okra was awesome!

Food - Outstanding!!! If you enjoy steak fingers or chicken fingers this place cannot be beat! Huge portions and cooked to perfection. Hint- order the Grits as a side item. They are outstanding, too. Service - friendly, engaging and prompt without being annoying. Ambiance - very nice and laid back! Check out all the art work of the legendary Dirk West that comes vets the west wall. This is worth the trip alone.

Full disclosure: I'm on a Nashville hot chicken kick right now. For the past year+ I've sought out myriad venues as I travel for work around the nation. Honest reflection--if I could transplant this amazing fried chicken joint to my hometown, I would in a second. What a find; an absolute gem of Lubbock! I've tried several of Dirk's offerings, but I think my favorite is the sauce tray. For a meager $2 you can sample every sauce available; a condiment lover's dream! Don't get me wrong, the chicken is delish, fries, additional sides are solid. Service is prompt and succinct, and the venue is no fancier than it need be. I appreciate Yelper Justin T. who shared the history and social media support for Dirk's origin. Also agree with Yelper Paul S. and others who identify the lack of napkins, wet-naps, or other necessities of a fried chicken joint. Not sure why they skimp in this area?

Ok this place was stinking great !!!! Every sauce we tried was home made and different than any other restaurants even the gravy was unique ! Fried okra , cheese grits , & mash pot gravy were all items that tasted unique in that I've not had anything like it ! Delicious ! Chicken is so much food you can easily share as well . I don't eat oysters but our family said best they've had .

Chicken fried steak fingers and double fries

Was here on business and found this place and decided to give it a try. Place was alive when entering and full of people. We were able to sit down immediately and received drinks shortly after. Food came out piping hot was pretty good. I ordered the chicken fried Steak fingers with double fries. The jalapeño gravy was really good and the portion size was very filling. Prices were very reasonable and service was super prompt and always checked in. Definitely would come back again to hang out for some more beers and quick bite when visiting again.

Dirk's showed up on my radar after seeing an episode on The Texas Bucket List showcasing this place. My son goes to Texas Tech so on my last visit to Lubbock, I made sure to check Dirk's out. Dirk's was created by a chef to honor his grandpa Dirk who was a former mayor of Lubbock and the artist behind all the Tech cartoons plastered over all the walls of this place. I would call it an elevated diner specializing in chicken dishes. Like literally, that is all they sell here along with sides. We walked in and was told to seat ourselves. The staff seemed to be alot of college kids who were very friendly and attentive. We did have to ask for things like utensils and napkins which would normally be given when seated. When we did get napkins, it was just one lonely napkin. Come on now, its a chicken spot, I need lots of napkins. First world problems I guess. On to the food. I couldn't decide on what to get because everything that passed by our table looked good. I let the employee pick and he told me to go with the Nashville Hot Chicken if I wanted something spicy. That was exactly what I was looking for. This particular dish came with one side while most of the others come with two sides. I went with fries because I read they were good here. I also added a side of Fried Okra because I love me some okra. Usually I wouldn't complain about my food coming out quick, but it came out super quick here. My first thought was that the food was already made and temps wouldn't be idea. I was mostly right as far as the temps go. The fries and chicken were warm to touch. I was expecting piping hot fried chicken. The okra was freshly made as I had to let it cool down a bit. All that being said, the food was absolutely delicious though. First off, you get 4 pieces of chicken. A leg, thigh, wing and breast. I was only here for a night and wasn't taking home leftovers, so I picked at all the pieces. They were all perfectly cooked, seasoned throughout and so tasty. It definitely packed some heat, so beware. The fries were hand cut, seasoned just right and tasty. If both the chicken and fries were a little hotter, I would've gave this place a 5. The okra ruined any future fried okra for me as it was the best fried okra I've ever had. They were cooked whole, crispy and seasoned absolutely perfectly. It was a little expensive as a side, but a very generous portion. I did my best with the meal but barely put a dent in it before giving up. Another thing I did not like was that they served canned drinks. For this kind of meal I need refills. They have a full bar so I don't know why they don't have drink dispensers. Overall, minus the food being lukewarm, the food was one of the better meals I have had in Lubbock. I would definitely come back!

This is a great lunch spot. My wife had the chicken fried steak fingers and I had the chicken tenders. I thought the chicken tenders were delicious. For her side she had the creamed corn and green beans and for my sides I had the fried okra and cheddars grits. The creamed corn was the real star. Was a bit let down by how bland the grits were. My chicken came with a few sauces and the Cain like sauce was the best. Though it was good enough that it didn't need sauce. My wife really liked her steak fingers, though I thought they weren't as good as the chicken. This restaurant was really busy and a bit loud. But really neat decor with all the characters drawings. Cameron West has made another great place to eat. Will be back in the future. read more

Absolutely incredible food at one of the best dining experiences in Lubbock. The food here is leagues beyond any fried chicken I've had before. I highly recommend the chicken tenders or steak fingers, both are incredible. The sides here are just as good as the chicken. I had the Cajun cream corn and fries. I normally don't enjoy corn, but the cream corn is incredible and I look forward to it every time I come. The crowd the you find at Dirk's is something rather special too. There can be college students at one table and an elderly couple at the next. I think it just goes to show how good the food is. Next time you want fried chicken, skip Canes and go to Dirk's. On a recent trip to Lubbock for a wedding, a group of us dined at Dirk's for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. What an absolute pleasant surprise! Sure, we read the reviews...the fried chicken is really good. But, we didn't think it would be outstanding. It was! Additionally, the other food including the rotisserie chicken and sides were excellent! And to top everything off, the cocktails were beyond amazing! Our bartender (who kindly took care of us while we waited for our table) made the best Chilton's (vodka, fresh lemon juice and a splash of soda water)! This refreshing cocktail was simply divine! Dirk is a well known local cartoonist, who worked for various papers back in the day and also came up with the mascot for Texas Tech. He's got mad art skills...but dang, his place has great food and drink skills too! I highly recommend a visit here for good comfort eats and great drinks! read more

To call Dirk's a chicken place is like saying that Garth Brooks is some guy that sings a little bit. Dirks has a very simple menu, but they stick to what they do oh, so well. The food was nothing short of amazing, and the flavors and spices were perfectly balanced. The wait was just a touch longer than expected, but they were busy, and it was so very well worth it. Since the dining room was incredibly busy, I opted for a seat at the bar, where I was very pleased to meet team member Becca, who very cheerfully took care of me. When I asked Becca what her favorite thing on the menu was, she compared it to picking a favorite star in the heavens. I ultimately ended up with the steak strips, which were delicious, shredded brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes. Each item was very carefully prepared and flavored, and presented with great eye-appeal. In short, if you are looking for a tasty meal that far surpasses the usual chain-restaurant food at a great price, then Dirk's is the place to go. If you want chicken in a box -- go somewhere else! read more

I have known the West family for decades and they are wonderful people. This diner and bar has great food and great service. The oysters are the finest gulf oysters available and at a great price as well. The only issue was the noise. It was dangerously loud. I have a decibel meter app on my phone. It was around 7:00 pm on a saturday and the noise level hit 90 decibels and averaged in the mid 80's. You couldn't hear your friends or waiters and staff. I cannot imagine how much higher it would be later in the evening. This is not safe. I visited with the mother of an infant and showed her the sound levels. Over 60 decibels can damage an infants ears. I love this place and want it to succeed but please mitigate the sound levels with architectural sound baffles and under table baffles as well. Until that changes I will just do takeout from here. read more

Dirk's is awesome! The menu is simple, they stick to what they do well and the dining experience is like none other. They have a wonderful bar menu with specialty cocktails that are creative and delicious. Their bartenders are amazing and a cut above. At this point I have been 3 times, each time I have experienced top notch service, incredible locally sourced and creative dishes that all have tasted delectable. The rotisserie chicken is my favorite, seasoned to perfection, cooked perfectly. It is wonderful paired with their incredible fried okra. My other favorite side is their green beans, they are deliciously prepared and cooked to perfection. My husband loves that they support their local breweries and have them on tap. I will always come back to this wonderful full dining establishment and recommend it to all my friends! If there is a review with less than 4 stars I would completely disregard it. I was out having a beautiful night with my girlfriend. Life feels special when I get to spend time…read morewith her. As we were leaving our very special dinner date, we were driving through downtown Lubbock off Broadway when a place we had never seen before passed by the car window. In perfect unison and harmony, she and I said, "What place is that? Narrow Bar?" We had never seen it before. Was it new? Were we just blind all this time? Narrow Bar has been around. We truly have been blind all this time. Through my four years of college and then some, I had never heard of it. Tonight would change that. As I reached Avenue Q, we turned around to investigate. Narrow Bar is attached to the Wells Fargo building with, shockingly, a narrow indoor bar. The outside is what grabbed our attention: an expansive patio filled with a live music trio and young adults casually having a great time. Was this bar one of Lubbock's best-kept secrets? Having had a few drinks already, we agreed on a one-and-done experience to try this place out. We were handed an expansive drink menu listing four categories: classic cocktails, contemporary cocktails, signature cocktails, and mocktails. I immediately eyed one of my favorite cocktails, a Carajillo, while my girlfriend yearned for the IYKYK (a Porn Star Martini). Our server took our order, and it wasn't long before our drinks reached the table. My Carajillo came with one of those big ice cubes (an actual cube), which was awesome, and the drink itself was really well done. Their espresso cold brew gave it a strong coffee profile that wasn't as sharp as other Carajillos I've had, which I think benefited the drink, especially being mixed with the slightly citrusy Licor 43. As for my girlfriend, she was really excited for her martini and adored it, notably because it came with prosecco. The space is really nice on a cool Lubbock night as it faces the street of downtown Lubbock. The band playing was not a cheesy bar band but actually quite good, pulling some deeper tracks out of their hat, including "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The lead vocalist had this Steve Miller vocal inflection going on, so I requested any Steve Miller song, and we got the always enjoyable "Fly Like an Eagle." The croquettes were excellent, and the berry sauce added a bright, tangy complement that really elevated the dish. For our entrees, we had the teriyaki ribeye with flavorful mushroom fried rice, as well as the swordfish, served with perfectly executed risotto and roasted vegetables. I like my ribeye cooked rare, but with the fat properly rendered, so I ordered it rare+, and it was executed perfectly. The swordfish was equally impressive, beautifully cooked and paired wonderfully with the risotto and vegetables. Our server, Saidie, was outstanding and made an already great meal even more enjoyable. The service was warm, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. We highly recommend The West Table and will definitely be back.

When we walked in on May 19, 2026, the place was not too busy at around noon. Right away I noticed low lighting. Cool alternative, rock, and old R&B music playing in the background. A full bar. Pinball machines for tables. Lots of nostalgia in this place! Restroom was mostly clean. The food was okay. I wish there was a bit more flavor to everything. My daughter agreed. + The Damned Dog ($11) "All beef frank, house beef chili, cheddar, diced onions, and jalapeno crispies." This was good but the frank and chili needed more flavor. I opted for a side of house-made vegan potato salad (additional $1.50) instead of potato chips which really good. + The Sourpuss ($12) "Bratwurst, sauerkraut, pickle slice, crushed salt & vinegar chips, and queso fresco." My daughter enjoyed this with ketchup and mustard added and a side of smoked gouda mac. That mac was very tasty. We also noticed how crisp and spicy our Sprite and Dr. Peppers were. Loved that. I'd definitely go back again for a drink and maybe a sandwich next time. Ample lot parking.

I had such a great experience here! The service was absolutely lovely--everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome from the moment we walked in. And the food... wow. The gluten-free chicken strips were hands down the best I've ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. It's not always easy to find amazing gluten-free options, but they completely nailed it here. I'll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to anyone looking for incredible chicken and great service! read more

Extraordinary. After literally having 2 horrendous food experiences in a row here (as a visitor) in…read moreLubbock, I stumbled on Pub 55 today. What awaits you is what one restauranteur once termed "instilling love in the food." This new combo bar/grill opened barely 6 months ago, and what a pleasant surprise it is! Today, I ordered Chef Edgar's Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, coupled with the complimentary side of mashed potatoes. The sandwich packed high caliber beef like you really do find in Philadelphia. The green chile was fresh and pungent. Even that, in isolation, would be worthy of acclaim here in Lubbock. The onions delivered a wonderful flavor, fried or marinated in something unique (no jokes people). Every bite of this sandwich was not only edible, but tantalizing. The chef genuinely knows what he is doing here. And after Covid, in smaller jurisdictions, well, rare, really rare to find. A valid test of quality cooking is the aftermath taste sensation, what lingers. Here, I can only think of one thing, that sandwich. To reiterate, from the cheese, fried onion, quality beef, and even the sourdough (I believe) roll were tremendous. I didn't bite even once into gristle or fat. This' why I generally stopped ordering affordable red meat out as invariably it is rubbery, gristle-ladened, flank steak likely challenging some German Shepherds' jaws. Mexican restaurants often provide this and pretend that it is tender. It isn't. Food temperature was perfect, as well. Even after I commiserated amply with the friendly, conscientious staff people, upon returning to the table, it still proved warm (the sandwich) and rewarding. The good tidings didn't end with the sandwich, amazingly. You owe it to yourself to order the mashed potatoes with the special, homemade brown gravy. They were fresh and outstanding, not replete with salt, but flavorful. The also-homemade gravy was beyond original. The staff here has inculcated a healthy amount of Guinness stout into it, with onion, I believe. It affords a unique and elegant, complex taste explosion. This could be the best brown gravy I've sampled in at least 7 years. I never order it as it's usually a concoction of flour and bad, unhealthful goo. Needless to say, this gravy and the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich are the perfect complements. What a combination! Remember to order them together. In short, I have found the best value, best food, most friendly servers, with the best hours food establishment in Lubbock, hands down, at least as a visitor. I don't claim expertise in Lubbock's restaurant offerings, but have sampled nearly 15 here by now. To think that you could visit this place at 10:30p.m. on a Sunday, order this sandwich, get a Guinness, order the mashed potatoes with that stupendous gravy and have the best meal for under $26 in town is remarkable.
