Cuevas Drive In is a great place. It is a true hole in the wall diner/cafe. We had the cheeseburger & fries and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. The burger was great at the first bite and the home cut fries were crisp and tasty. The chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes had a peppery flavor and great texture. The service was fast and friendly. I do wish they had ice and glasses for my Diet Coke, but I'll be back. read more

This is very much a hole in the wall. The food was pretty good. The staff was friendly and the prices are reasonable. I like supporting small business and this is the smallest. The tacos were good. Meat was salty but the lettuce balanced it. If you exclude the lettuce and tomato it would be too salty. The chips were fine and the salsa was ok. It's a green salsa. Others in our group had steak fingers and chicken fingers. They were good. The not so good. Bathroom is through the kitchen. Slippery and the floor in the kitchen needs to to be replaced (or even take down to cement). There were a lot of flies in the kitchen and bathroom. The rice was over cooked and very soft. The AC was a small window unit. It was ok but not cold sitting in front of the AC. I like that the building is more shack. If you're expecting a modern or professional commercial building you'll be unhappy. No doubt so people would not rate this a 4 but the experience, good enough food, friendliness of the staff, and supporting a small business puts it there for me. read more

Never judge a book by its cover. Thats what could best be said about this place. The food is homemade. The service is kind and attentive. The place is a bit of a dump inside. That may add to the charm but it is ramshackle structure. Food good tho. read more

The building is tiny. It will seat about 25 to 30 customers. We arrived about 12:15 for lunch. They were already sold out of everything except wings and burgers. So, we ordered two 1/2 lb cheeseburgers. I had regular hand cut fries and my husband had the waffle fries. We also had chips with green salsa. The burgers were charbroiled to perfection and so savory. My husband could not stop raving about the hand cut waffle fries. The chips were seasoned with Cuevas' own spicy seasoning blend and the salsa had a little kick to it it . . . was so good! By the time we finished eating, they had run out of food and locked the door. Plan ahead, get there early. . . It's definitely worth it. read more

Locally owned family business since March 20, 2010. How have I lived in Lubbock since before this place opened and I have not heard of it? It's a modest dive with a drive thru and inside are three booths and five 4-top tables. The owner and staff work hard to cater to their customers and the food is good! I tried the carne guisada on my first visit and it's like mi Tia makes in the kitchen. Their fresh homemade flour tortillas are amazing. My husband and I had to come back for the burgers because they looked so good the last time we were here. They did not disappoint and the fries had the perfect crisp, not soggy and not over cooked. The American food is just as good as the Mexican food. This establishment is off the beaten path and may not be look like much on the outside, but it's worth a sit down meal on the inside. read more

Cuevas Drive-In serves up a great cheeseburger as well as an excellent chicken-fried steak that is an homage to the time when a Texan could walk into virtually any restaurant, cafe, or truck stop and get a better-than-decent CFS. This one is way, way better than decent. My understanding is that the Cuevas CFS is skillet-cooked, essential to a good, authentic-tasting CFS. Deep-fried CFSs are an abomination. Clearly, the people in the kitchen have serious, pro-level cooking skills. I want to branch out and try their other menu offerings, but their chicken-fried steak is so darn good that it's my new go-to. Don't let the location discourage you from trying a truly excellent dining establishment. read more

This place is where you go to have a home cooked meal away from home. My family went to Lubbock to visit my little brother at Tech and we stopped here. The food was so good, great prices, and quick service. My little brother said it gets packed on Saturday's so be prepared, it wasn't when I went though. The owner is super friendly also. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and my eggs were cooked perfectly! The papas tasted just like my family would make at home. Authentic food here, you won't be disappointed. read more
