It IS loud in here! We were the only customers, we got here when they opened, and we could barely talk to each other KFC was very good, and there was plenty of food! Green beans, mashed potatoes and regular chicken strips all very good too. My wife commented that the beans were fresh. We both took a little chicken with us as we couldn't finish it all! Our server Hannah was awesome too! Eat here! read more

I picked up lunch our food was cold chicken & steak fingers were cold pretty disappointed we have been several times and it was good.

DIRKS please read my review!! You would get a full 5 stars if you would add some baffling or something to the ceiling to absorb sound. This place is entirely too loud at breakfast, lunch and dinner.....including non-peak times. Food and service are stellar. The fried okra is the best I have ever had, and the only okra I have had that is served whole. The KFC is on point and I I truly enjoy the steak fingers. read more

I got chicken tenders plate (comes with two sides so I got the fried okra and mashed potatoes with jalapeños gravy and comes with one sauce so I got the Dirk signature sauce) . I also tried the nashville hot chicken. Let's go pros: I really enjoyed the side options and the amount of food for the price. Chicken was juicy on the inside and not dry. The flavor on the Nashville hot chicken was enjoyable. Cons: The chicken itself doesn't feel marinated or anything so the flavor isn't in the chicken itself. The seasoning on the tenders was very minimal and just tasted like a lot of salt. Same with the okra... the fry on the okra was good but just tasted like salt. The mashed potatoes were fine but the "bacon" in the gravy was canadian bacon or something because it wasn't crispy like bacon. I wouldn't get the mash again.. Nashville definitely had better flavor, but was very very very oily. It's also has like virtually no spice. Dirks signature sauce is like canes sauce but tangier... (Canes is better I'm sorry). Service was good! They do charge 2.5% credit card fee so bring cash. read more

Dirk’s - chicken tender platter with fried okra and mashed potato's - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

I think this is one of the best restaurants in Lubbock, hands down. Dirk's is a chicken joint located right outside of downtown Lubbock. On the side of the building is a mural stylized after Dirk West cartoons with Raider Red chasing chickens, which immediately helps you understand this food is about to be heavenly. I miss my college town favorites since moving to Austin, so it's always a beautiful moment to return these spaces especially with a friend that always generates great conversation. Inside the restaurant are two spaces: the bar and the tables. We arrived a little after 6 pm, and the dinner rush had beaten us there, plus a large birthday party, which gave us a 30-minute wait or immediate seating at the bar. Bar it is! We were immediately seated and served water. They have a full open bar, some select bottled beer options, and draft choices from their sister location, Brewery LBK. The decor of the restaurant is built around cartoonist and former Lubbock mayor Dirk West. The artwork, statues, and other pieces from Dirk's collection give the place a lot of great character. Their menu is slim, and Dirk's is better for it. I love a menu that limits your options because you know everything is going to be done to the highest level. Their options span from different styles of chicken tenders and bone-in chicken, including Korean Fried Chicken and Nashville Hot Chicken, while also serving traditional bone-in chicken and chicken tenders. I've had a few things from their menu, but this time I ordered their traditional chicken tenders with mashed potatoes topped with jalapeño bacon gravy and their fried okra. It felt like the order was placed in front of me before I had finished ordering; it was that efficient. Places that have small menus not only seem to focus on quality, but they can also churn out meals quicker because they're always firing variations of the same thing. Everything in front of me, from their specialty sauce to the large amount of fried okra and their perfectly breaded and fried chicken tenders, was immaculate. The best part of all of it is the price tag. With the rising costs of fast food, Dirk's is not too dissimilar and is ultimately affordable for the value and amount of food you get. I don't know what else to add here. If you like chicken, I cannot recommend this place enough. If you don't like chicken, you were never 8 years old before. RIYL: Chicken with the quality of sit-down restaurants but the efficiency of Raising Cane's. read more

The service was good and prices were reasonable but if you want fresh vegetables not your vibe.

So good! Can't decide if I love the oysters or chicken best? Service is usually good. Avoid peak times if you enjoy a quieter atmosphere. (The acoustics in the building make it louder) Enjoy! read more

It's alright, chicken wasn't the best to be honest, but it's a cool place. I think it's more of a bar place

Alex is our hero, he is the best waiter! The portions here are large for the prices. The chicken tenders were juicy and good. The fried bone in chicken was dry. We did not enjoy the bacon gravy it was oddly sweet. The house ketchup was good. Oh and the okra was awesome! read more

Full disclosure: I'm on a Nashville hot chicken kick right now. For the past year+ I've sought out myriad venues as I travel for work around the nation. Honest reflection--if I could transplant this amazing fried chicken joint to my hometown, I would in a second. What a find; an absolute gem of Lubbock! I've tried several of Dirk's offerings, but I think my favorite is the sauce tray. For a meager $2 you can sample every sauce available; a condiment lover's dream! Don't get me wrong, the chicken is delish, fries, additional sides are solid. Service is prompt and succinct, and the venue is no fancier than it need be. I appreciate Yelper Justin T. who shared the history and social media support for Dirk's origin. Also agree with Yelper Paul S. and others who identify the lack of napkins, wet-naps, or other necessities of a fried chicken joint. Not sure why they skimp in this area? read more

We were in town for an event at TT. My friend, Judith thorn, from San Francisco ordered oysters. After some discussion to determine how they could be Gulf oysters in the middle of the high desert, she ordered a dozen. Amazingly, she was pleased with them. She hadn't been pleased with anything on this trip. Thank you Dirk's! You saved me from another two hours of complaints. Yay!!!! Dirk's RULES! read more

Was here on business and found this place and decided to give it a try. Place was alive when entering and full of people. We were able to sit down immediately and received drinks shortly after. Food came out piping hot was pretty good. I ordered the chicken fried Steak fingers with double fries. The jalapeño gravy was really good and the portion size was very filling. Prices were very reasonable and service was super prompt and always checked in. Definitely would come back again to hang out for some more beers and quick bite when visiting again. read more

Don't let the small menu deter you from coming to dirks. I have had multiple dishes and it is always amazing. The portions are HUGE. I would advise anyone with a small appetite to split a meal. The chicken fingers and steak fingers were fried to perfection. The fried okra is a real treat. The Korean fried chicken was awesome. Would recommend getting a side of the sauce. Great atmosphere. The green beans were just OK. The gumbo was kind of watery. But great food overall. read more

We came here randomly one day. I was honestly really skeptical at first because the hostess wasn't very polite and just pointed at which table to go to. She did not look happy to be there at all. It's rather small in there in my opinion so all the tables are crammed together. And it makes it seem louder than it is. We sat and our server came to get our drink orders, the menu has very little options so I was kind of intimidated at first. We settled on getting chicken strips with fries and green beans, and the rotisserie chicken with fried okra and fries. We started eating our meals and I was so glad we chose this spot. The food was amazing! The portions were pretty big too! We'll definitely be back but probably when it's not a rush hour read more

Probably as good of food as you can get in Waco, it's clearly catered towards college students but it's got some fun decor, good service, prices, and decent food. We got the hot chicken and a number of sides (okra, green beans, brussels). While the hot chicken was covered in seasoning and somewhat oily, I would hardly say it was hot or even spicy. It tasted pretty good, but tabasco probably or jalapenos on the side probably would have been hotter. The brussels were ok, but moreso broiled than crispy, and similar with the green beans. The okra was nicely crunchy, and the drinks we had were good as well. All in all, better than we expected! read more

Probably one of the best chicken places in Lubbock. Nashville hot needs to be hotter tbh and the Korean bbq plate was sweet for sure. But the restaurant is clean and nice. The staff was also really nice. read more

Dirk's showed up on my radar after seeing an episode on The Texas Bucket List showcasing this place. My son goes to Texas Tech so on my last visit to Lubbock, I made sure to check Dirk's out. Dirk's was created by a chef to honor his grandpa Dirk who was a former mayor of Lubbock and the artist behind all the Tech cartoons plastered over all the walls of this place. I would call it an elevated diner specializing in chicken dishes. Like literally, that is all they sell here along with sides. We walked in and was told to seat ourselves. The staff seemed to be alot of college kids who were very friendly and attentive. We did have to ask for things like utensils and napkins which would normally be given when seated. When we did get napkins, it was just one lonely napkin. Come on now, its a chicken spot, I need lots of napkins. First world problems I guess. On to the food. I couldn't decide on what to get because everything that passed by our table looked good. I let the employee pick and he told me to go with the Nashville Hot Chicken if I wanted something spicy. That was exactly what I was looking for. This particular dish came with one side while most of the others come with two sides. I went with fries because I read they were good here. I also added a side of Fried Okra because I love me some okra. Usually I wouldn't complain about my food coming out quick, but it came out super quick here. My first thought was that the food was already made and temps wouldn't be idea. I was mostly right as far as the temps go. The fries and chicken were warm to touch. I was expecting piping hot fried chicken. The okra was freshly made as I had to let it cool down a bit. All that being said, the food was absolutely delicious though. First off, you get 4 pieces of chicken. A leg, thigh, wing and breast. I was only here for a night and wasn't taking home leftovers, so I picked at all the pieces. They were all perfectly cooked, seasoned throughout and so tasty. It definitely packed some heat, so beware. The fries were hand cut, seasoned just right and tasty. If both the chicken and fries were a little hotter, I would've gave this place a 5. The okra ruined any future fried okra for me as it was the best fried okra I've ever had. They were cooked whole, crispy and seasoned absolutely perfectly. It was a little expensive as a side, but a very generous portion. I did my best with the meal but barely put a dent in it before giving up. Another thing I did not like was that they served canned drinks. For this kind of meal I need refills. They have a full bar so I don't know why they don't have drink dispensers. Overall, minus the food being lukewarm, the food was one of the better meals I have had in Lubbock. I would definitely come back! read more

Positives: Nashville hot chicken is excellent and packs a spicy wallop. Cheese grits are very good and so are the mashed taters with jalapeno gravy. Prices are reasonable and you certainly won't leave hungry. TV screens are confined to the bar area, which is good for people whose appetite is usually spoiled by the crap on the boob toob. Negatives: Accoustics are terrible. Too much racket. Must be a Cameron West thing because that's the way all his joints are. Not a fan of the gumbo and the maque choux. The bone-in chicken is good, but is it really better than Chicken Express and Market Street? I'm not sure. Suggestions: Sound-damping tiles to absorb some of the noise; as another reviewer suggested, offer cornbread and biscuits; offer chicken a la carte because some of us have no use for dark meat and it goes to waste. read more

Great service. Very attentive & friendly staff. As for the food. Just as excellent. I was in for lunch so my plan was to go lite but the menu had some things that quirked my interests so I had to indulge. I tried the tenders which were very good. Cooked to perfection. Paired with honey mustard & the dirk's signature sauce. My preference was definitely honey mustard over the latter. The star of my meal was the gumbo. It was a side, but to me, best thing on my plate. Very flavorful & good portion for a side. The mash potatoes were good too I think it had jalapeño gravy but no spice at all just flavor. I honestly will probably never have the chance to visit Lubbock again but I highly recommend this place. read more

We came here on our way to Albuquerque for the weekend. I read about it and naturally had to try it and I'm so glad we did. It is such a fun place. They have a limited menu which means that what they do, they do well. They have lots of local beers which I enjoyed. We got the Korean chicken and it was top notch and big enough to share which we did. The mashed potatoes and jalapeño gravy were a bit of a let down. I was hopeful for them but they pretty much just tasted like straight onion. I was hoping for more jalapeño flavor. But other than that it was great! read more

Hair in my Bone-In Fried Chicken...first bite! Gah! It's a super windy, cold day and it blows into location full blast...even leaves on floor. It's freezing in here. Food got cold fast. Especially okra. Or it came to table cold... Nice people. Bathroom was clean. Music kinda loud for visiting with family. Pictures are funny. As expected. Brussels sprouts have vinegar taste. Creamed corn has that Louisiana sausage in it. I guess I'm more into Texas cooking. Family member didn't care for cheddar grits. Green beans a bit hard to eat. They are a long green bean in a little small bowl. A bit hard to cut inside the bowl and awkward to pour out on the tray. Got charged wrong. Maybe large group too complicated for them here. read more

It all started when we had to wait for large table, they only have ONE for some reason they could not put two tables together. after about 10 min's the group sitting at the only large table left. we get seated everybody got there drinks, without any issue. When it came to order our meal, I ordered the steak fingers plate, i wanted okra, and I asked for it to be well done, i was told NO, because of the kitchen, was busy, there was only two other tables not counting the one big table we had. Meal came out hot the steak fingers were the worst I have ever had, had some funky taste to them, the chicken was good, my daughter had the chicken with gumbo which had no taste, my wife had there grits, once again had no taste, the only thing worth eating were the frys they were good. So all in all DONT waste your time and money on this place!!!!! read more

Great food. Large portions. Very customer-service oriented. RETURN again when in Lubbock, TX.

Amazing Southern comfort food here. Sunday brunch was packed- only one or two open tables and the bar was full. Beverage wise, my Bkft brown ale on tap was tasty & my wife liked her #43 cocktail. We split the chicken fried steak (fingers). They were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and very juicy. The gravy was a masterpiece. The sides may just be the star. The cajun corn was spectacular and included flavor-explosion pieces of sausage, and the brussell sprouts and green beans were both superb. Worth a stop for some outstanding reasonably priced food. read more

That's it. I'm calling the police. The food here is so good someone should go to jail. It is unreal. Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of parking. The bar was almost full but I managed to snag a spot. I don't drink but the drinks looked yummy. I got the rotisserie chicken with fried okra and Brussels sprouts. I wasn't a fan of the Brussels sprouts so I asked to change it to fries and I'm so glad I did. The fries are phenomenal. And paired with the house made ketchup they are Devine (and reheat perfectly in the air fryer). My bartender/waiter and his bar back were prompt , helpful and very friendly. The walls are lined with dorks art, and we're an entertaining tour of lubbock history. It's a casual place, a little loud and it filled up while I was there but everyone looked to be having a good time and some even said hi as I was looking at the illustrations near their table. Passing thru from SF area and not generally super exited about chicken, but this chicken blew me away. I had the Korean flavored version (KFC it's called) and it was the best chicken I've ever had (and I'm 70yo). The meat was perfect but it was the skin and flavor that really knocked it out of the park. The skin was the perfect crispiness and the rice was a nice compliment. Perfect amount of spice too. Excellent!!! And my waiter at the bar (Austin) couldn't have been nicer. read more
