So let me start with the only bad thing about JJs. The cigarette smoke is thick! With that being said, I only get to go food. The employees are very good and attentive. The burgers are good, especially the mushroom burger, and the fries are hot and tasty. However, the steak fingers are to die for. They are HUGE and cooked to perfection. What a great find! We are living in the RV park around the corner for the next couple of months and I was sad because we are so far from Lubbock and "civilization" and I like to go out to eat haha BUT this place is great. It's old, and it smells like 20 years worth of cigarette smoke aired out by two years of febreeze, but once the food comes you don't notice. And it's spotlessly clean. I love the bacon cheeseburger's and onion rings from J J's. Prices are good (the special on the front window hasn't changed in years) and my daughter was impressed by the size of the taco salad. My family has ordered from J J's almost every other month since we discovered them - that's a lot for us. Stopped here on our way out of Lubbock. We had burgers, and they were awesome!! The patties were huge. Freshly made with all the toppings. Tater tots were good, but the onion rings were fantastic. Hubby added bacon and green chilies and the onion rings to his. I just had a standard cheeseburger. Our server was very sweet, and everyone there was friendly to us. The only complaint I have is they allow smoking and the floors were a little dirty, but I think they had just gotten over their lunch rush and hadn't had time to pick up. The food was good and the portions generous. Wait staff was very friendly. The problem was cleanliness. We did carry out but I was appalled when I when in to pick up our food. From the outside this place looks like a dive hole-in-the-wall, but walk inside and it's a... dive hole-in-the-wall. However, I like the local places and sometimes the lack of polish that a chain restaurant has means a better experience. My wife and I stopped in here on a road trip after seeing it on Yelp. The place was, once again, a dive but it was clean and the staff was very nice. The restrooms were clean and our table was comfortable. The other patrons appeared to be locals and it was busy without being overcrowded. The one negative was that several folks were smoking which we are not used to being from the Austin area. We wanted to get a broad idea of the food they offer, so I got a bacon cheeseburger and she got the cheeseburger. Okay, we didn't want a broad idea... we wanted burgers. I lied. Whereas they weren't the greatest burgers we ever had, they were far from the worst. Good, greasy "put hair on your chest" griddle burgers that I would definitely come back for if in the area. The tater tots are far better than the fries. So, to sum it up, cool place, good food, good service. We will return. read more

Coming through Lubbock and thought we missed the good food-- little did we know we were about to find the best grub in town! Cheap, fast, and GOOD. Give the chicken fried steak or bacon cheeseburger a try. My kids said, "this burger was worth the ten hour drive!". And we all know kids will tell you like it really is. read more

We ate there on 5/15/15. I had read the reviews and thought it would be good. It was just average. Got the seafood platter. It was more like fried catfish with 6 popcorn shrimp and 1 tablespoon clam strips. The stuffed crab was good. They were very cooperative and exchanged mashed potatoes for French fries. The mashed potatoes were good. The waitress was very friendly, but never came back to check on us. All in all it was OK but I probably won't go back. read more

This place is terrible! It's NOT clean, it's NOT "homemade" cooking. It frozen food cooked in a deep fryer. Nothing about this place is home cooking. It smells like cigarettes, the tables were all dirty, couldn't enjoy my meal without having to swat away flies every 15 seconds, and over priced for what I was served. The food was adequate but the wait staff was rude. The sign on the window said they closed at 11:00 pm. We were the only people in the restaurant and had finished our food but were still talking at 10:15 pm and as a signal, I, suppose to tell us to leave they turned the lights off on the side we were sitting on. We hadn't sat there very long because we arrived at the restaurant at 9:30. We paid our bill and left and didn't leave a tip because our waitress was the one who turned the light off. read more
