Amazing Mexican food on the east side of Lubbock. You can order through the drive through our walk up to the front window and eat at the picnic tables / in your car. It's slightly cheaper to pay with cash vs card. Highly recommended?

Nice atmosphere, I like the decor. The staff is friendly and very patient. A family type atmosphere. The asada has nice flavor, good seasoning and delicious. The taco salad is good but the chicken with the sauce is hot to the taste. Being a southern boy, I believe I found an authentic homemade Mexico hot sauce. My tongue lost its taste buds! You have been warned! The food was good and worth the price though not very expensive. There is a good selection. Thank you for making my first visit great and welcoming. I highly recommend giving this place a try!

This may be the only reason I miss living in Lubbock. If you find yourself reading this, take yourself straight over there NOW! I always got their carne asada fries with pico and sour cream. It was $13-15 I think... haven't had it in 3 years, but I'd make the drive over there just for this!! Expert tip: try this with a daiquiri from Eskimo Hut. Just trust me.

The love I have for their chimichanga is unnatural. I've had their chimichanga on numerous occasions and they have never failed. It's always fried to perfections and comes out at an amazing crisp level. Their carne asada fries are also just as good. I can rave about the food forever but you're just going to have to try it to believe it. They have pretty quick service. This is a whole in the restaurant and there is no indoor seating. You can park your car and eat or there is a bench that you can eat at. Unfortunately, you can't order ahead. However they do take Apple Pay

I come to this part of town and I have to stop at this place it is so incredible the 12 rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese or only $7.75. Their beans are awesome. Only real major issue is there's nowhere to sit to eat if they would just closed off one of the sides to prevent the wind it would be amazing but based on food alone I give it a five-star for food and service BUT as far as a place to enjoy your food on a cold or hot day. I'd have to give it a two

    Rolled tacos supreme

Stopped by yesterday for lunch and ordered the 5 rolled tacos supreme and half order of Carne asada fries. Both were really good but honestly could've fed a family of four. I read reviews people had of the rolled tacos not having enough meat but I was okay with that. The Carne asada fries had plenty! Finished everything off with a large horchata.

Food is OK. Not authentic but you do get your money worth. Perfect portions for the price.

Awful mexican food, the carne asada plate was over spiced and the meat was grounded. Bad service and the cook wasn't wearing a mask

My first time I went, my group of guys and I were put in a room with all the other white people. Not to say they were profiling, but looking at the rest of the restaurant's population on a busy Sunday, they had us in the gringo room. The food hit. I get putting a bunch of three-taco-plate-and-queso people in one room. I have not been back in quite a while, but I remember their menu being the most behemoth-looking thing ever. Every item had a picture taken on a Coolpix camera, and the text was almost impossible to read on the menu's busy background. That is proof that the food was going to hit. After returning, the menu has been minimized to be more readable, only slightly keeping that same over-the-top flair. The prices have gone up slightly, but where have they not? On a Thursday night, we were seated immediately around 7:30 and had a pretty attentive waitress. Like every good Tex-Mex joint in Texas, their chips and salsa roam freely through the restaurant, and the salsa has a good kick that is easy to manage while still having the heat everyone wants. They also have a creamy green sauce and other sauces they bring out by request. I ordered a combination plate with a crispy beef taco, a beef burrito, and a chicken enchilada with a side of Mexican rice. I added a side of refried beans because no Tex-Mex meal is complete without a big serving of refried beans to mix with the rice and crush with tortilla chips. The crispy taco was unreal. The shell feels like it was double-fried. It has such an incredible hardness to it. It feels premium. The beef burrito and enchilada were great as well, but I was blown away by the taco to an extreme. They have a pretty broad selection of Mexican beers, including Tecate, Bohemia, Dos Equis Amber, Modelo Negra, and Victoria next to your Coronas, Sol, and Dos Equis. Their margaritas are pretty great, if my memory serves me right, as well. I love this place, and I was glad to give it a revisit while being back in Lubbock for a bit. It is just classic and timeless. I just wish their menu was as much of an eyesore as it used to be because that sucker brought me so much joy. RIYL: Gaining five pounds in an hour. A good meal.

The restaurant is large and has plenty of seating. We were seated quickly on a Friday evening. Like most mexican, tex-mex restaurant, we were given chips and salsa to start. I feel like I'm not usually picky with something so simple. However, the chips didn't seem to have enough flavor. I felt like it could have used more salt. The salsa also tasted a bit off. Specifically, it tasted more sour than I would have liked. I ordered a bistec plate (not sure what it was specifically as I'm writing this a few weeks from my original visit). There was sauteed beef with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and bacon. It was delicious! Everything was flavored nicely. Went great inside the warm flour tortillas that were provided. The sides of mexican rice and pinto beans were good as well. Aside from the food, the service was great. Attentive and kind. I still wish I could have paid for this meal, especially now in retrospect. My Lubbock host was too quick and went ahead and paid for the two of us. As we left, there was something wrong with the doors on the way out. I don't remember that being an issue as we came in. One of the sets of doors just seemed to jam. It was probably just me though (it was). Overall, I'd recommend this place! Maybe it was an off day for the chips and salsa. Otherwise, everything was great.

We started with the house chips and salsa trio, which is always a win here. The chips were warm and crisp, and the variety of salsas--from bright and fresh to deeper and more roasted--made it easy to keep reaching for "just one more." A solid way to kick things off. For my main, I went the veggie route, and honestly, this was the standout of the meal. The sizzling vegetable fajitas arrived steaming hot and loaded with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, and squash--perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and served on a cast-iron skillet that kept everything hot down to the last bite. Colorful, hearty, and surprisingly satisfying, even without meat. The rest of the table went more traditional with enchiladas, rice, beans, guacamole, and queso, and everything looked generous and comforting in that familiar, crave-worthy Tex-Mex way. Portions are filling, flavors are approachable, and it's easy to find something for everyone at the table. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a lively bar area and cozy booths that make it a great spot for a casual dinner, family outing, or low-key night out. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything came out exactly as expected. Abuelo's may be a familiar name, but when you're in the mood for reliable Tex-Mex, solid vegetarian options, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe, it absolutely hits the mark.
