Highly disappointed in this place! The chimichanga was just jammed packed with cheese a little meat and more cheese. The rice and beans would have been good if we had rice and doesn't a chimichanga have rice? Wife had the tacos with beans and rice. But again no rice. Waiter didn't even tell us we had to ask where the rice was. My recommendation - ditched the pork you're using for the chimichanga it's not good! - always have rice ( I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that runs out of rice) - give your customers a heads up if you dot. Have something and if you find out after the order just give us a heads up rather than having us have to ask. read more

Their fajita shrimp salad is a joke. It has about 1 cup of onions in it, very little lettuce, a couple cherry tomatoes, small teaspoon of guacamole and 6 shrimp. No black beans or zucchini! And, the salad is very small. It's not worth $17!!! If you want a dish of onions, by all means, order it. Otherwise, avoid. read more

I grew up eating at the Midland location and would frequent there on my visits throughout college, even. It was a must have on any visit to Midland and my memories are very fond of great food, drinks, service and ambiance. I have family here in Lubbock, now, and asked to come here for dinner. I was warned I'd be disappointed, and I honestly was. This very spacious location in a shopping center, boasts impressive square footage, a bar with booth seating, and a really nice courtyard for dining. The Diego inspired murals I remember weren't has prominent here, but they were present as were the concrete sculptures of the era of the Mexican Muralist Movement. The vibe no longer has the family owned vibe that they still tout, and service definitely needs improved attentiveness and courtesy that would drastically elevate the dining experience. The initial greeting set the tone- an unwelcoming host and an indifferent server contributed to an atmosphere that lacked the basic hospitality one would expect when dining at any establishment. The menu still has a lot of the favorites I remember and I was excited for the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp and the Espinaca (Spinach Casserole). My Dad always orders the same Barramundi with Guerrero Sauce added. My Mom and I shared an entree, Los Mejores de la Casa. My Dad immediately asked the server if he could get more of the sauce he ordered (at an up charge) since half looked dry and without sauce and wasn't what he's had in the past. She immediately told him it was an additional up charge than he was already being charged, for more sauce. She mentioned that she would talk to the manager, left and quickly came back and said that the manager said it would in fact be an up charge. The manager never came by and never saw the sauce in question. *Please keep in mind that my family owned steakhouses and in addition I have 15 years of fine dining experience before I left the restaurant industry for the medical field and this type of service interaction would never fly. For this caliber of service, 2 entrees, and 3 margaritas the tab was $102.81. I'd rather have other places in town for Mexican, if I'm being honest, and we could've saved some money. My Mom wanted another margarita, but wasn't given the chance to ask for one and we were finished with our plates for a good while before the server came back around. At that point, she didn't clear plates, just asked if we needed dessert or the check. We chose not to take her up on dessert after the experience we had had already. Was the food good? Yes. Could there have been better attention to detail in even cleaning the edges of the plates before they were brought out? Yes. Does all staff, including management need better training and standards of service? YES! I hope that the owners reflect and circle back with all staff and management to upgrade their service standards. read more

First off...the food was good so kudos to the kitchen staff. Got there about 8:45 for dinner. Asked a waitress on the patio if they served a full menu, was greeted with a rude "we're about to close". Went inside and felt like we were intruding on every employee trying to close. Service was less than poor in the bar. No one was picking up dirty dishes. People coming in from the patio overwhelmed the one guy taking drink orders while the everyone else working there ignored customers and went through closing duties. We felt like a burden. read more

Abuelo's never disappoints, and this visit was no exception. Their chips are the light and crunchy kind. The enchiladas with sour cream sauce are magnificent and the chile relleno I had was amazing. We stopped in for lunch on our way through town on a road trip. It was really nice to eat in a Mexican restaurant that looks and feels like a Mexican restaurant! The service was wonderful and the food was really good, although I wish the crispy taco shell had been fried instead of purchased (like those from a fast food chain), but the filling was well seasoned, and the salsas and chips were outstanding. Not only was it disgusting, but it also made me question the cleanliness and food safety standards being followed. After much deliberation, we ordered The Grande. This consists of a cheese stuffed poblano, cheese, chicken and beef enchiladas, a tamale, a crispy taco and rice & beans. There is also a dollop of guacamole. This is a great dish if you can't decide on one or two items, or if you want guaranteed leftovers. I love to give credit where credit is due, shout out to Evan. Seriously the most attentive waiter ever. My first encounter with him I accidentally ordered the wrong sauce on my enchiladas & he kindly came back with a new plate with the sauce I originally wanted. I also had my baby with me and as soon as the food came out i had to excuse myself to feed her, i came back to the table 15 minutes later and he took my plate and heated up my food for me. SO SWEET. My husband and I ate a few weeks ago and I was thrilled to have Evan as our waiter again. He made sure our drinks, chips and salsa were always full. He once again went above and beyond with service. Really loved this spot! Came at about 5:15pm and was spotted immediately. By the time we left a little after 6, the place was PACKED and a huge crowd was waiting for a seat. You should either come early or late, or be prepared to wait. Started off with the "Platinum Hand-shaken Margarita-Rocks". Came with a shaker prepared with a delicious margarita. It filled the smallish glass about four times. Tasty and seemed a value! The chips were weak, but the salsa was great. They even came with three options, to mix into your own bowl to design your own: hot, tomatilllo, or smokey. Each was excellent on it's own. For the entree, I had the Pork Tenderloin Abrigada. Three slices of pork tenderloin wrapped in bacon. It was "smoked", which seemed over smoked actually. For the two enchilada's, I chose a brilliant beef enchilada and even better chicken. Finished with some very good charro beans. All around fantastic, filling, and a lot of food. Finally, the waiter was spot on and the inside a bit fancy, which I liked. read more

Reynosa salad - Fresh salad mix topped with ground beef, creamy chile con queso, charro beans, tomatoes, mixed cheeses and fresh guacamole, with a cup of Tortilla Soup. It really got the spot. I came here on a weeknight and found ample parking and easy access. I was greeted and seated right away. They have a very extensive menu! They even have a gluten sensitive menu, which is great, however, there are not many options. We noted that the lunch menu is available for those over 60 all day, what a great thing! We went here not so long ago and have no recollection of how good the food was, it's probably okay. The ambiance was nice because we were seated inside where it's quiet and we can enjoy our food and have conversation. Outside there was a band playing which was fun to watch and listen to. Our server definitely went above and beyond trying to entertain my husband's questions and stories and other things he needs. Contrary to that, I was ignored the whole time and that's why I'm omitting one star. Sexism should not be tolerated in service industry.
