Plaza Sunrise

This place is fantastic! We celebrated a birthday here and everyone was so happy with their plate. My hubby loves me enough to let me taste his Chimichanga with fajita steak, and it was yummy! My own Crispy Relleno plate was outstandingly delicious. I will get it again. I didn't see Tito's Tea on the menu and they looked it up and made it for me! Wow! However, my dad was raving about his Plaza Sunrise, so I had a sip of his second round, and my eyes twirled! I'm getting a Plaza Sunrise next time! Thanks to The Plaza for making our celebration special. We didn't even tell them we were celebrating and yet the service was so wonderful.

We ended up here because every other choice closed at 9 p.m., and the Plaza was open till 10. I split the enchilada trio with the wife. This is two cheese enchiladas topped with red sauce and steak fajita meat. It also came with beans & rice. Everything was hot and flavorful. The fajita meat was tender. The salsa here is also a favorite. Chunks of tomato and not too hot. The server was friendly and prompt and we always enjoy the sports on tv in the background and music that's not too loud.

Build Your Own Enchiladas: two cheese enchiladas and one veggie with refried beans and sautéed veggies

I came here with some colleagues looking for some good Mexican food on 10/11/22. One of my group grew up in West Texas and is a longtime fan. For me, the experience was just ok. The chips and salsa were the stand out items, and they gave me a lot of hope for the main course. The chips were hot and fresh, and although the standard salsa was delicious, you could ask for a spicier version which also had some good flavor. I had the Create Your Own Enchilada plate. The custom enchilada section took up a good section of the menu, and seemed like a smart idea in offering not only what fillings you could get in your enchiladas, but also what sauce they would come covered in and how many. I got two cheese enchiladas and one veggie enchilada, all covered in red sauce. For an extra topping I asked for fried eggs. The red sauce turned out to be more of a chili sauce. It tasted ok but it wasn't what I expected, having ordered the traditional red. The eggs were nowhere to be seen and were shortly afterwards brought out on a separate plate so I could slide them onto the enchiladas. Flavor wise, overall, they were ok. My refried beans were also so-so, and surprisingly enough, the side of sautéed veggies were the hit of the meal. All in all, the service was good and the food was ok. I would come back sometime, but I wouldn't run back.

Very new looking spot and neat and clean. Staff was fine though seemed novice. The selection was good, they have a nice Happy Hour so maybe check that out. I had a chef combo, relleno, enchilada, guacamole salad with Mexican papas and steamed veggies. Vegetables were very good. Rest was fine. Whole experience was "chain restaurant" like. Fine but not extraordinary

Food is bland. So many other local Mexican eateries that has flavor. This Amarillo based restaurant just doesn't satisfy.

I would also highly recomend going on Saturday for their brunch menu! I will give major props to the server, Mollie, and her manager for doing a phenomenal job resolving a minor issue with the order quickly, politely, and effectively. The atmosphere was fair with good music and humorous decor in the bathroom. The lights weren't for me, but others may like the statement. Where The Reserve was lacking was the food. The pepperoni pizza was pretty good, but again there are better options around town. It did taste like it had been prepared in a genuine brick oven. The tortellini was bland. The queso was good enough, but nothing to get excited about. The salsa was downright terrible. The chips were actually phenomenal. The margarita made no attempt to cover up the strong taste of tequila. The Chilton tasted like club soda and not much else. Lastly, some of the surprise fees made me feel like I was booking air travel or paying a wireless bill rather than getting a nice meal. The final charge was a few dollars more than what was shown on the ticket. I assumed this was probably due to a service charge for paying with a card, although I didn't see it with a quick glance at the receipt. In all fairness, I'm sure this was disclosed somewhere and I overlooked it. I have come to accept this as the way of the world now. Also, when we ordered the chips and queso, we were asked if we wanted salsa with it. We accepted the salsa with the assumption that it was complimentary. Granted, since we were asked, I should have assumed that there was a charge for it. The charge was reasonable, although wasted because the salsa was so terrible. I did receive approximately a 5% discount for the order mix-up, and I actually ended up with a free pizza as well. The service and attentiveness were truly exemplary. I would give this place a second chance if I were in the area, but I certainly will not go out of my way for it.

I was out having a beautiful night with my girlfriend. Life feels special when I get to spend time…read morewith her. As we were leaving our very special dinner date, we were driving through downtown Lubbock off Broadway when a place we had never seen before passed by the car window. In perfect unison and harmony, she and I said, "What place is that? Narrow Bar?" We had never seen it before. Was it new? Were we just blind all this time? Narrow Bar has been around. We truly have been blind all this time. Through my four years of college and then some, I had never heard of it. Tonight would change that. As I reached Avenue Q, we turned around to investigate. Narrow Bar is attached to the Wells Fargo building with, shockingly, a narrow indoor bar. The outside is what grabbed our attention: an expansive patio filled with a live music trio and young adults casually having a great time. Was this bar one of Lubbock's best-kept secrets? Having had a few drinks already, we agreed on a one-and-done experience to try this place out. We were handed an expansive drink menu listing four categories: classic cocktails, contemporary cocktails, signature cocktails, and mocktails. I immediately eyed one of my favorite cocktails, a Carajillo, while my girlfriend yearned for the IYKYK (a Porn Star Martini). Our server took our order, and it wasn't long before our drinks reached the table. My Carajillo came with one of those big ice cubes (an actual cube), which was awesome, and the drink itself was really well done. Their espresso cold brew gave it a strong coffee profile that wasn't as sharp as other Carajillos I've had, which I think benefited the drink, especially being mixed with the slightly citrusy Licor 43. As for my girlfriend, she was really excited for her martini and adored it, notably because it came with prosecco. The space is really nice on a cool Lubbock night as it faces the street of downtown Lubbock. The band playing was not a cheesy bar band but actually quite good, pulling some deeper tracks out of their hat, including "That Smell" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The lead vocalist had this Steve Miller vocal inflection going on, so I requested any Steve Miller song, and we got the always enjoyable "Fly Like an Eagle." They had no tip jar sadly, but my hat goes off to you guys. It was a short experience, but a great impression enough to make us know we're coming back the next time I visit her in Lubbock. Narrow Bar is on point when it comes to their cocktails. IMHO they have the best Chilton in Lubbock. If you know you know. However where they really shine is with their focus on offering a wide selection of Bourbons and Scotch. They offer the usual suspects, but they also offer several allocations. Did I mentioned Narrow Bar also offers Clase Azul Repesado, Anjeno and Plata (I think that is the other one they have). Their salad is also excellent with or without protein added, however I recommend getting the dressing on the side.

Thankfully our local friend provided us with the details for Chuys. The decor on the inside really leans into the 1950s/1960s Americana vibe that's often associated with Lubbock without leaning into kitsch territory. The table we were at took about 5-10 minutes to clear up for us and once we were seated we felt right at home. Food came out hot and exactly as expected. The server also recommended that I HAD to try the local concoction adult beverage that apparently is a staple of this location. It was a nice treat and a quick way to feel at home. Our bill was also not exorbitantly high, which is also something else to note about this place. You'll get your dollar to go far while here. They can accommodate groups in side rooms which gives your group privacy and space for enjoying your meal. The kitchen and floors looked well kept and clean.
