When Jesus comes back, I hope one of the places he checks out is Chimy's in Lubbock. Not the one in Fort Worth. Not the one in San Marcos. DEFINITELY NOT THE ONE IN COLLEGE STATION. One of the more relaxed college bars in Lubbock. Great to watch a game at on their TVs, but Chimy's to the people around me is known for their chiltons, their margaritas, and their great food from their cheese fries to their hamburgers. I don't know when they ID for the night, but I have never been and not been IDed, so expect it to be 21+ most hours. Like most bars, it can get a little rowdy and loud in the evening so be careful. On a cool summer night, their patio is a great time, but inside is always a cute vibe. Personally, when I go, I get some cheese fries and a Silver King margarita and it's PEAK. The cheese fries are usually served with a side of ranch in a tortilla bowl. I ALWAYS EAT THE BOWL. SUE ME. The staff here can be decently friendly on nights, but they will throw you out immediately if you're being an idiot, and security will flip out if you walk out through the emergency exit. Don't do that. They close up shop around midnight, so it's not a bar that rolls to the end of the night, but still it's worth going to get the night started at the bars, especially because they're one of the best bars with food in Lubbock. Wanted to check this place out but it's a shame the door guy is prejudice. It appears he only allows a certain race (white) and sexuality (straight) into the bar. When I approached the entry, there was a young door guy with a cowboy hat on. He looked me up and down, I provided a valid ID, and he still refused to let me enter. I would like to note that I am well over 21 and my ID reflects that. When I asked him what his reasoning was to not let me in he just gave me a blank stare. I usually like this bar. Today I had the WORST experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It was snowing in lubbock (1/18, you know) and it's 9pm. My friend and I are trying to go get food and drinks at this place. There is a small line and it's freezing as we wait outside. We finally make it to the doorway to get some heat from inside after 10 minutes. Not the bouncer but a man named Seth Lazaro, who claims he works there, comes up and says "actually you're going to have to wait outside." My friends and I are like "are you serious" and he's smiling saying "yes" saying he's going to "push these girls out of there" to the bouncer. They claimed they are full capacity, first in first out, and then 4 people walk out. He said, instead of letting us in, "I'm going to have to say no here." And didn't let us in and couldn't give us a reason, he just "didn't want to," as so he claimed. My friends and I are distraught, we loved this place. I was sober and my friend had one drink so he had no reason, just because he could, he said no. Never again! What a crazy power trip, never have seen this! Bier haus treats us well and I've met the owner who says thank you for loving his business! You must go over there. If Chimy's keeps employee's like this then we don't want to be there! I then asked where I might find the water fountain, she responded by saying "it's up front, not that complicated". Out of all the Chimys locations this one is the worst. They have the highest prices. Their happy hour here sucks compared to the other locations. They also don't allow you to even drink. Emmy was awesome!! I've always loved Chimys but Emmy went above and beyond. I was standing in line for a drink, and she recognized me and offered to grab my drinks and bring them out to me. Not a huge deal but really nice of her to do. 20 minutes later another waitress came by and we said we wanted to close out. She agreed, but came back later saying they were super busy and we might be better off getting our own tabs closed at the bar because she was slammed. I definitely understood so no big deal, but 5 minutes later Emmy came by and offered to close us out anyway even though she was obviously slammed. I used to love occasionally coming here for cheese fries and a yummy margarita, however the past few times I've come the employees have been extremely rude. This past weekend some friends visited from out of town and wanted to come to an old favorite. One of the bartenders was extremely disrespectful to EVERYONE, vaping in guests faces, and over charging patrons (she charged me $15 for a drink that I later discovered was $8). I've tried contacting management but there has been no answer when I call, and they have been closed when I've tried to go in person. I used to recommend this place for visitors, but it's definitely off of the list. I've worked in the service industry for a decade, and have never experienced anything like this in Lubbock. They should really be concerned with who they have behind the bar because it will eventually cost them more than a bad reviews. read more

Food is Mexican-inspired - nachos, quesadillas, tacos, salsa bar, and burger options. I ordered the chips and guacamole to share with a friend and was VERY underwhelmed. You don't come here for the food, it's nothing to write home about. For an entree I ordered a steak fajita quesadilla which was a good size but bad ingredients (gross tortilla and cheap cheese). So for a college bar frequented by majority college kids among a slightly older crowd as well this has to be one of the best college bars I've ever visited. The drinks are strong and I mean double strong. The food is amazing and plentiful. And the service great and prompt. Stopped here for a night out with 6 other people for dinner and drinks. We ordered a nacho platter and burger on jalapeno but. The nachos came in a food diameter platter with tons of real cheese and plenty of chicken well seasoned and we'll cooked. It took 3 people to finish it. The salsa bar was well stocked with really good red and green salsas and other fresh veggies. The burger was a generous portion of beef on a truly amazing jalapeno roll and pepper jack cheese. All condiments veggies and sauces had to be added ourselves. This truly was a very good burger. I would highly recommend it. The waffle fries the burger comes with were fresh and crispy.
