I realize that the best of the best places sometimes slip and have a bad night causing fellow yelpers to bash establishments.....and reading some of the previous reviews....damn Gina.... Not only did wifey and I have a great time here, we came back 2 nights in a row. EXCELLENT service, excellent drink specials, great amount of TV's, games and pool tables, a good selection of pub grub and super cool patrons. Great time at the oldest sports bar in Lubbock. Drinks are cheap and it's a great place to watch sports.

Good bar in Lubbock, just off a Main Street. This is a smokers bar, so if that's not your thing beware. But drinks were reasonably priced, staff was friendly & attentive. Lighting is a little low in my opinion, but not anything that would prevent me from coming back. They have a few games in here too if you're looking for some entertainment. This used to be a go to place for good drinks and a place to have a smoke with excellent service. But, this is the second time in a row that I've been in here and the wait service is really lagging. If you sit at the bar you are good. Guess that's why the bar seating is always full. If you're sitting at a table top, well, good luck. I just watched the waitress go order my drink, bartender made it immediately and it sat there for a good 3 minutes while the waitress was poking her phone. Last time the gf and I were here, couldn't get a drink because waitress was chatting it up with some guy in the corner. Ended up after 10 minutes going to the bar and getting a drink. This is a really nice place. I was surprised by the layout and interior design as it's located behind a stripmall. The "don't judge a book by its cover" syndrome. About a dozen pool tables, a couple Golden Tees, shuffleboard, a few other video games, and LOTS of televisions. This would be a great place to watch NFL or college football. They have Buzztime Trivia; the reason I found this place. Jacob C's comments also influenced my selection - thanks for the review! I was disappointed the place wasn't very busy for a Friday night. Originally, I stopped toward the end of happy hour and it wasn't very crowded. I left, returned a couple hours later, and it still wasn't very busy. Around 11pm the area restaurant workers started coming in, but not as many as I thought would show up for a great place to shoot pool, the breeze, or just hang out. Claire was awesome! I sat at a table playing trivia. She arranged the television to show the games I wanted to watch, checked on me routinely, and even laughed at my bad jokes. I would definitely come here again. I'm new to Lubbock so took a spin at a local bar that's been around for years and not a chain. Very glad I did! Cool old school vibe, ice cold beer and delicious philly cheese steak. Fresh made chips with house made salsa and queso was as good as it gets! Trivia was a plus and sports of every kind going on TVs everywhere. Oh they have pool tables and golden tee. Chip's is great. If you are in Lubbock and enjoy dive bars, this is the place for you. The food is alright - good for a late night snack with a beer or a burger while watching the game. The grill closes at 11 on weeknights and 12 on weekends, which can be a necessary downside when the bar is open until 2. The staff is great. Completely nice and very helpful. For the most part, they're quick and coherent. Half the time, I tell them "Surprise me!" and they bring me a drink that tastes great and isn't terribly expensive. Actually, Chip's really isn't expensive. Combine their cheap schooners and pitchers with their multiple pool tables, big screen televisions, Golden Tee machines, and amazing staff, and you have a truly great bar. read more

I love their Cheese Burger with beer batter fires, the beer is ice cold pool is .75 cents a game the only thing this place needs is more people to come enjoy it after work. Weekend are better but then it's hard to get a pool table I have fun even when it's quiet. read more

During Saturday College Football we asked to have the sound turned up just enough to hear the game on one of the many TV's and the owner sat with his friends behind us 20-30 minutes later and had the volume turned completely off (all the other TV's had sound off as well). I've never seen a sports bar with silent TV's. Other than that the staff was friendly and the place was clean. read more

Bartenders were extremely rude and unfriendly. We were supposed to have a waitress and nobody ever came to our table. We had to continue to order from the bar, which is not that much of an inconvenience, except all of the bartenders snapped at you and threw your card back. They eventually "cut us off" because they said we were not tipping enough, not because of how much alcohol we had. When we tipped $2-$3 per drink we got. We tried to spend more money at their bar and they turned us away because they wanted more money for themselves instead of their place of work. Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had here. I used to love this place and now I never want to go back. Kitchen guy was nice but the rest of the staff just stared at you like you were an idiot. read more

It's a bar with underpaid servers and over worked, or at least that was the personality of the people that interacted with us. Drinks are average and made a tad on the weak side. Overall, it's your typical dive bar with pool table and darts. read more

Lots of TVs, 8 pool tables, cheap beers, and really good combo baskets!!!!!!! It's dark, dingy, smoky, dirty, and has some strange people in it! Therefore it's amazingly fun! Definitely the premier dive bar/ sports bar in town! read more

Sometimes I get a smidgen gassy when I am drinking in a dark place. I'll accept the fact that I have no idea how or why. They do come on rather quickly and sometimes hurt. Hurt like as in " is this really gas or something like I am about to give birth" I'm confused, where is my bike? read more

Chips is a total dive and the food is horrible. There is one waitress who is okay, but if you aren't a "regular" expect to be last on the list to get waited on. The bathrooms are pretty gross and usually smell really bad. They do have nice tvs if you want to watch any games though, so I guess that is a plus. read more

The interior is huge---it hardly ever feels crowded (even if it is). Lots of cheap pools tables, Golden Tee, and TVs. The bartenders are friendly and quick. Great deals on beer and shots. Definitely a spot to hang out at on the regular. read more

I've gone to chips for many many years. Well I've moved to a new town and when I drove to Lubbock to visit family I went with a friend to have a few drinks. Well the next day they had charged my card $220.00 for a $22.00 tab. The waitress Sam never told me she did it. I was furious. Luckily I didn't need they money, but it was the whole principle. But she sure did run my for the 22.00 tab and the 10.00 tip. I finally got ahold of some one and they said they would look into it. She said the waitress had voided it, fine but she still never told me. Well have over 5 days of it still pending on my account I called again. The manager Rita said she would look into it and call me back well I've never heard anything from anyone. All I know is I won't be returning. For all I know the girl Sam walked with 220 that night. I'm in the industry and I know it doesn't normally take this long. How dare the server run some ones card for that much and not say anything to the customer. What poor poor customer service and employees. read more
