I am so happy I found this place on YELP! It appears as a quiet little neighborhood bar/ hangout. I ordered the catfish basket, which included catfish fillets, waffle fries, hushpuppies, and OKRA.... everything was fried to perfect crispiness. Nothing was greasy at all. Gabby was so welcoming and pleasant. She had that special intuition that let her know when I needed something... It was a perfect meal. The cook/ chef even stopped by my table, and was so very nice. $3 schooners of beer before 7:00 PM? In a frosted glass? Yes Please. They have great happy hour options and a new appetizer menu. I wish more people would come here and enjoy it's sweet and simplistic charm. The walls are made with actual oyster shells and the lighting is so warm and fuzzy. The waitress was very attentive, helpful and pleasant. There was a group of about 10 people next to us that come every Wednesday. They were super friendly and nice too! The whole atmosphere had a lovely small town feel. Aside from all the lovely things about the atmosphere and staff the food was so great! I got the fried catfish basket. It came with the red potato side and they were so crispy and piping hot! The catfish tasted perfectly sliced and hot. The breading was phenomenal. I will be coming back when I crave this soon. My husband got the crab cake stuffed catfish. It came with my same potatos and he chose fried okra as his second side. YUM. Everything tasted so fresh and steaming hot. Came in last night for a few beers and 2 shots. After awhile I received my check and asked what a "service fee" was. It was poorly explained and told that they always charge people that fee $3. The taller bartender took my check waved it to the other customers asking them as proof that they always charge the fee and while I had my card out she says to me that if I'm not going to pa to then she's going to call the police for theft of services. I thought oh my god. I use to go here all the time and this was the worst experience I've ever had. And I've never been charged a fee. The smaller bartender said they have to charge that so they can stay in business. I highly doubt that. After last night with the attitude and experience I won't be coming back. I honestly expected much better. I understand they were having a bad night with some previous customers but I'm when I saw my bill nothing was added right. $6 for the service fee in total, 2 different prices for the same beer "bud light bottle," and 2 different prices for the same shot "fireball" and it was just me. I didn't ask for a double shot or come in during happy hour. Something isn't adding right and I think I got screwed out of it. read more

Both locations of the Lone Star Oyster Bar are pretty stellar, but I choose which one I visit depending on m y intent for the night. If I am interested in getting drunk, I visit 34th. If I am more concerned with my empty belly, the Slide Road (58th Street) location is the placed to go. Don't get me wrong, the food is good at both locations. But the Slide Road location is more family friendly, and for some reason the food is higher quality. The menus are slightly different, and I prefer the one at this location. I know it sounds funny, but even the salad is really excellent at this place. Just a few recommendations: Try the fried oysters. So good. Crab cakes are delish. They have really amazing nachos. Screw it, everything is good. I don't think I've had anything I don't like. Maybe the catfish, but I don't really like catfish anyways. Just go check it out, trust me. read more

Use to go for the tuesday oyster special..a dozen on the half shell for under $10 bucks? I know its dumb to eat raw seafood in the middle of the desert..but sometimes u have to stop that craving. Now they jacked the prices up, the oil in the fryer seems like its never been changed, and both locations are just getting too old....it used to be charming and local, now it looks plain dark and dirty. The bartenders are still pretty cool though, bc they probably have steady regulars already...could get a little rough when the bikers come in..lots of local patrons and all kinds of characters. read more

Went in on a Tuesday night. Never a fan of places that allow smoking where you eat. Even as a smoker that bothered me. However I am writing this on the food alone. I tried the shrimp the raw oysters and wings. Shrimp was okay not great not bad. The wings were decent. That brings me to the oysters. when I started eating them I noticed they did have a little bit of an old taste but with enough lemon and horseradish I didn't want to waste them until I got to the seventh one and it was bad. Very bad. So I spit it out. 8 a cup of wings and decided well, every place could have a bad oyster so I tried another one and it was bad as well. So I left the rest and told the server that there were several bad ones there. She just kind of smiled and laughed it off. When I was done she asked if everything was okay again and I stated that the bad oysters kind of turn my appetite off. There was no apology, no offer to comp half of the oysters, nothing. I'm not a person out trying to get a free meal by any means, but if I had a joint and my customer stated that the food was bad I would definitely offer to make it right. read more

Friendly people, good prices. A neighborhood dive, but a real gem. One of what I call "community centers that serve alcohol." The food is passable. Menu includes, catfish, oysters, shrimp and the usual sandwiches and sides. read more

I wish that I could rate this place 0 stars. They are always so rude and unfriendly, and even went as far as to make fun of my friends and I with the other customers when we walked into the bar. It is like they do not want business from certain types of people that come in. Definitely did not even feel welcomed. I wanted oysters and a martini full of olives......what I get is a waitress with an attitude who we have to ask for condiments from multiple time, got no refills from, got no olives from, who upcharges my martini to a double without my consent and to top it off FOLLOWS US OUTSIDE after cashing out to ask (with full eye rolls) if she's done something wrong. This was enough, I mean really follow us outside.....my hun starts to tell her what she did wrong and by the second word she cuts him off to say "yeah have a nice night" and walks off with full eye roll and hand waive. NEVER EVER going here again. It's one thing to be busy and forget somethings or mess up a bit...but own it and fix it. Don't talk mess and give attitude the entire time. I always go to this Oyster Bar when I am in town for the food and mainly for the service. However, my favorite bartender is recently not there anymore for a false accusation from another bartender I will not name. And for this, I will not be going to this bar anymore. The girl I always go see was a great bartender, great server, has a extreme personality and is just overall the sweetest girl that worked there. The management staff is terrible and base every decision off their workers instead of facts and for a a growing sales standpoint. read more

Firstly, I love oysters. I've shucked oysters before- it is a hard but fun job. There is not shucking done here and/or they definitely do not shuck them correctly. They are not supposed to be stuck to the shell...Ever! their oysters are frozen. Not fresh. The taste and texture is rubbery and dry. Take it from someone who has attended the Oyster Festival in New Orleans- DO NOT GET OYSTERS HERE! We never ever ever leave an oyster on the plate and We could only eat 3 each. My car Got towed while at this joint. Heard Good music while there. Not their fault but they only have parking on three sides of the building - front, left, and back. Wow has his place gone into the crapper.! Food used to be good but now it is horrible. Dirty rice has the consistency of grits, potatoes are no longer what they were, shrimp was rubbery and everything was cold when it came to table. One bartender waiting on entire restaurant? I was very disappointed in this venue. I have been to the O-bars on 34th and 101 and have never been so dissatisfied with a restaurant in my life. I sat at my table for 15 minutes without being acknowledged and then I was denied food because "we are not serving food anymore" at midnight?!? I watched 4 trays of food go out 30 minutes after I asked to be served. My waitress had no interest in serving the table and HONESTLY DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE. DO NOT GO HERE. I started hitting this O Bar more often once I moved out to 96th and Slide, but it's definitely a suitable substitute for the original on 34th. The giant painting of Willie Nelson on the wall helps make up for the decrease in character from the original location. read more
