Great club. (Got the lantern club how it comes) it was really good. The drinks...well let me start with what I started with. Google. I asked "cheapest drinks in town." The number one? This place. We went. It was good but th drinks are not cheap (now I'm no penny pincher but it is easier when you're paying 5-7 for a tall beer compared to 8-11 for one. Here it was deceptive. The beer. Smaller than a Pilsner but about 6 so not so crazy. But a small house Margarita? Almost 10 That to me is crazy. So no. So far. Cheddars is the cheapest in town around. The food is fresh and totally amazing! I've never had a bad meal there. The servers are really sweet and take the time to make sure you have not only everything you need but also to get to know you. Great service, drinks were 50/50 depending on what you ordered, calamari was overcooked and over breaded, and pricing was reasonable. Chips & queso..... not impressed. I have only been here a couple of times. Atmosphere is like someone's living room with a bar and tables in it. Very comfortable. It is a place where you can meet your friends for drinks and conversation without all the hustle and bustle of a loud, busy and pushy type bar. The waitress we had was unbelievably rude. We were there 30 mins.. she took our drink order but then after that it was like we were invisible. She was standing at bar organizing files, messaging on her phone, and then chatting it up with bartender. Another couple came in and she took their order immediately before ours and we had been there 30 mins. At one time, she was walking straight towards us.. "I thought great she is gonna take our order' nope.. she walked right past us to clear off a table.. this was after we had been there 30mins and she had taken everyone's order but ours! We were very polite and kind the entire time so I have no clue why she treated us in this manner.. when she finally approached us like 45 mins later.. we just asked for check, My husband left her a note why she wasn't getting a tip. read more

Neat little atmosphere. I've been a few times and will be back. There's lots of bar height tables and the beer is a "normal" price. I've been with a bar tab with a group a few times and they seem to handle it all well. There's also a nice little patio in the front that has some hedges around it so it's a little more private. This event was SO MUCH FUN. It was a much needed break from a busy week. I've never gone to a trivia night and so I didn't know what to expect. It was SO MUCH FUN. Even though the 'yelpaholics' may have come in (almost) last place...we had fun while we were doing it. The drinks were good and since we were among the first to arrive, Yelp treated us! So nice! Our community ambassador, Chelsea, suggested a new drink I've never tried. A French 75 (normal made with in but Chelsea and I chose to use Tito's vodka instead). So it was vodka, champagne, and lemon. So yummy and served in a martini glass which made me feel very classy! We got some Yelp! swag too!!! Buttons, chapstick, and best of all...pint glasses! So cool! I loved getting to know others in the Yelp! community of Lubbock. Chelsea is doing such a great job and I can't wait for the next hang out so I can meet more Yelpers! read more

It was all very good. Service was on the money and the food was extremely good. We went for brunch and will go back many times. I know it's just breakfast, but they just do a better job than most. My boyfriend and I are torn on this one. I like going there because I think it has the best - or perhaps as close as you can get - beer garden in Lubbock. We really like enjoying a nice beer outside, and most places in Lubbock don't have great outdoor areas. Most, it seems, are right next to the parking lot or a loud street. The Lantern is great because it has an enclosed outdoor area that is back a little from the street. Instead of eating and drinking next to cars, you sett two large trees and a cute brick and iron wall. The outside area is also dog friendly. However, they beer selection is not great. This is definitely not the place to go if you have your heart set on sampling a variety of craft beer. The food is average bar food. They used to carry fried green beans, but unfortunately it seems as if that has been taken off the menu. Our last trip I had a green chili cheeseburger and curly fries - it was average. The bacon wrapped cheese-stuffed jalapeños looked good, but we weren't hungry enough for an appetizer. If you're looking for someplace nice to sit outside and have a cheap beer, I'd suggest The Lantern. read more

Went there for a whiskey and an appetizer. They have a decent selection of whiskey and the pretzel bites we ordered were good enough my wife said she'd be willing to go back. Only reason I'm not giving them a 5 star is the service. While pleasant enough our waitress just wasn't very attentive and we had to get her attention to get her to come to the table a few times. The Lantern is great. It's non-smoking, which is surprisingly unusual here in Lubbock for a beer place. I really appreciate that, and would remain a customer solely for that reason. On top of not including cancer with your beverage or food selection, their draft choices are decent and their food is good. Plus, they have a GREAT patio when the weather is nice. The indoor atmosphere is nice too, especially when they have some live music going (that has never been too in-your-face; it's a medium/small place). Seems like it has a great mix of clientele, maybe leaning more to the young professional crowd. My only complaint is that they don't open until 4pm. Many early weekend afternoons my husband and I are looking for a nice cold beer on a patio, and we are always disappointed the Lantern is closed. :-( read more

The only reason I give it four and not five stars is that the normal person leading trivia couldn't make it for some reason and the stand-in lady seemed a little shakey on how to conduct a trivia night... maybe I'm just bitter because team yelp didn't win... The Lantern is my go-to bar in town for five reasons: great beer selection, good food, great service, minimal number of undergrads, and no-smoke. They have something like a dozen beers on tap, and they're almost all solid craft brews (plus Shiner of course). The food is much better than typical bar food. The chicken and waffles are the best I've had in town, and might even be the best chicken-finger variety I've had anywhere (the superior incarnations I've encountered all use bone-in chicken and reside in either LA or the Atlanta). The burgers are pretty solid, though they would better if they offered the option to cook them medium rather than well-done. They're one of the few places in town that serves white queso as opposed to yellow, and having moved here from Florida I really enjoy being able to get queso non-Tex-Mex style. The pizzas are pretty good too - not pizzeria good, but definitely better than what you would expect from a bar. The atmosphere is more chill than most of the bars you'll find near campus, which is nice if like me your college days are behind you. The smoke-free policy is plus for a nonsmoker like me, but there's also a really nice patio area for those who like a cigarette with their beer. Basically, if you want a great beer selection, good food, and a "mature" atmosphere, you can't beat the Lantern. read more

A tavern for everyone: A great place to meet your friends. The servers are first rate & know how to make the customer welcome. The patio is open for all seasons and a great place to smoke a cigar, inside it is nonsmoking for those that want to sit & relax. Anytime you want to stop by for a game or a social call you will always be welcome. The owners can often be seen having drinks with their friends and are always trying to make their patrons visits enjoyable. If you have not been by in awhile be prepared to see some changes! They opened up the back room and greatly expanded the facilities. A great change that gives the tavern and open and welcoming feel. New hours of operation have given this place a chance to please the dinner crowd. Their menu has also been expanded to meet the new demand for a diverse and interesting menu. Some Lubbock locals brought me here while I was on a quick overnight business trip. The good about The Tavern: It was non-smoking. Truth be told, that was the sole reason my friends brought me here. It also has a really nice patio with about 20 or so tables that are separated from the parking lot by some pretty good sized bushes that give it a nice private feeling. For me, the patio was the main attraction. Beer prices are pretty reasonable, $4, for pints. Service wasn't intrusive and the server wasn't trying to push beer on us even before we had finished the one we were drinking. The bad about The Tavern: There is zero atmosphere inside. I wasn't sure if they were going for a pub feel or not but the place wasn't very inviting. They had quite a few beers on tap but nothing out of the ordinary. If I recall they had Bass, Shiner, Fireman's 4. If you aren't looking for any sort of exotic beers, this is a nice, quiet place to have a couple of beers with some good friends or a date. read more

The food was great. Had the black bean dip. Spicy so watch out. Also had the cheese sticks and the hubby said they were great several times. Hubby had the chicken and waffles and it was really good. Decent beer selection. Had a cider on tap for me so that was nice. Great service even though she had just started and was on her own. Not really busy. Nice environment. We had good service while sitting outside. It is one of the few bars in Lubbock that actually has a decent patio. I dont get why bars would have 20 taps, like the Lantern, yet has no good beers. They are all the same light beers and not anything more. What is the point of having 20 taps when they all taste the same? Throw in some variety, have an IPA, a hefeweizen, etc. I want to say that all of their beer are $4, but I am not 100% sure on that. Other than that, my wife had a good hurricane from them at a reasonable price. The reason the place is 3 stars and not 2 is solely based on it being smoke free inside. Finally a bar in Lubbock did this, it is so much nicer walking out without having to immediately change clothes. read more

This is one of my favorite places to grab a drink in Lubbock. For Lubbock, it's super solid. They have a decent draft selection (15-20 taps if I remember correctly) and they have a good menu of whiskey, etc. It's a good place if you want to grab a drink with coworkers and friends while avoiding the college scene on Broadway. They have good drink specials, and their food is solid as well. The pretzels are awesome (my personal favorite). Good bar food without breaking the bank. The service can be shaky at times since they usually only have 1-2 waiters/waitresses in addition to the bartender. It's usually not a problem, but I have experienced pretty long wait times before someone stops by the table or drops off a check. Never been a huge deal, though. read more

Pretty decent beer selection, above average bar food. Wish I could say the local brew, Wicked Beaver, was worth drinking, but I had the bartender pour it out because it tasted like the keg was corked (which doesn't really happen, so that's how bad it was). I've never poured out a draft beer until I got WB, and it isn't the bar's fault. Watch out though - hanging out here long enough will make you want to do shots! :) read more
