Upon arrivak I was startled for 2 reasons 1. I did not see "corn dog" anywhere on the menu 2.There wasn't an inside area to dine Panicked, I asked the man at the window if "Dixie Dog" is what many people think of as a corn dog. To my surprise, many call the dixie dog the hotter cousin of the corn dog. Now I like corn dogs. I will be up front about that. Although many internet sources describe the Dixie Dog as a completely different experience, I fElt it Was very similar to I it's cllose relative- the corn dog. I am not prepared to create a vin diagram discussing the differences between the 2. I can't think of many. The Dixie dog is a must stop spot for all corn dog and Dixie dog lovers. Great little spot for a simple, old fashioned burger. The tots were great and we loved the "spicy" fries which are seasoned curly fries. Cashier was very friendly as well. Doesn't look like much, but was a place we would visit again. read more

Worse experience ever...from calling in my order to picking it up and fixing the mistake with my food nothing but rude service from the young man working the counter...this is the second time we have had this issue with the same rude employee...will try it again but not when he is there!!! read more

I have been going to the Dixie Dog since I was in third grade, which was a long long time ago! It is family owned by some great people. The place became so much better when they took over. Old time drive in type place that's great to grab a milkshake or a burger. They have truly expanded the menu over the years and their breakfast burritos are the best you will find in the area. It is a beloved place in the community. This was proven when Sonic, a similar type establishment, came into the area. Many wondered if this food chain would put the mom and pop shop out of business, but nothing could be further from the truth. Idalou is a small town. But if you find yourself passing through on 62/82, I highly encourage you to pull over and give it a try. read more

We drove from Lubbock to Idalou to check out this place! We ate at the little picnic table. The whole family dug in immediately with lots of ohhhhs and ummmms. My son had the chili dog with homemade chili and he scarfed it down before we could even start eating our meals. He loved it. My husband raved about the burger. The bacon was so crispy and it was delicious. The chicken strip basket was good. I had onion rings which were so delicious. They have a fun drink called a pink panther that we all enjoyed. The boys really loved it! We can't wait to go back again to try something new! read more

The Dixie Dog Drive-in is a good place to grab a Burger. The food is good - pretty standard menu for hamburger joint - the service fast, and the employees friendly. They have a cherry lime Dr. Pepper drink that is fabulous. read more

Not many make good ole patty melts any more with Rye bread and I was so glad to find a place that does. They made it perfect. The only issue I have is that their meat is paper thin. I love the shoe string fries. Everyone liked their burger. My son ordered the chicken sandwich and he was not a fan. We would definitely try this place again. read more

This is owned and operated by a family here in Idalou. This place has been around for many years. Being a mom and pop business, it is the place to go! The service is outstanding and the staff are kin to one another. Very good food! I highly recommend this place. read more

Highlights are their Famous Dixie Dog and their burgers. Their cheese on a stick is also very good. Tater tots are recommended, their fries are solidly above average. The fish sandwich is an abomination. Onion rings are solidly below average. Service is spotty, mostly very good, but occasionally also abominable. On one occasion, I attempted to call in my order an hour before closing, whereupon a staff member seemed to pick up the phone and hang up on me three times. I was a few minutes away anyway, so I arrived at the drive-thru window and was totally ignored. I stopped short of honking, or waving frantically, mind you, but I got the message: "we're closing early, buddy." I just wish they'd answered the phone or especially come to the drive-thru window to tell me so. This was not the first time I'd been hung up upon when attempting to call-in an order. Rudeness and a lack of regard for the customer seems to rear its ugly head every now and then but they're nice most of the time and the food is pretty good, so I guess I'll have to swallow the occasional insult along with their burgers. read more
