The food was so good. Just like I remembered from years ago when I lived in the area. We were staying in Lubbock for a few days and I remembered Jumbo Joes. Reading the reviews I was scared to give it a try. I'm so glad we went. Burger was thick and juicy. Green chile was great added to my burger. The fam said their frito pie was really good too. The Frito pie was a huge portion too. The fried pickle sticks were great too. My daughter said they were the bomb. The service was quick and everyone we interacted with was friendly. The manager said that they just haven't had time to change the price yet and I said that's no excuse and it's not the customer's fault. Then I get home and their is no bacon on my burger that I paid $2.00 extra for. She interrupted me by saying that she made my burger herself and that she put bacon on it. Don't go for the catfish. Too much breading, not well seasoned, and pricey. Got fried okra as a side. Was not told that it would cost more for that. Side salad that comes with it was a bit sad. Cheese was melting on it and they put pickle on the salad. Weird! Ordered a medium drink but was not told until after I bought it that the bigger size (large) was on a special and therefore cheaper! A Lubbock staple? Maybe. A catchy name? Yes. I've been curious about this place for quite sometime now, and after being on a 3 week burger hiatus, what a better time and place to break the burger fast. I stopped by here after work close to 9:15pm on a Tuesday night. I have noticed the Joe's Mart next to it and have decided that they are probably in cahoots. I was tempted to make a left turn onto Indiana and drive thru the mart parking but decided to wait for the light and not be caught having to make some driving adjustments due to non-access. The parking was rather strange and kind of difficult to approach coming from the west side of 4th street; I was able to maneuver right in front of their door. At this time I saw a rather buxom Latina beauty mopping the floor and I hoped the lobby was not closed. I figured if she was a decent person, she would wave me away to go thru the drive thru or that they were closed. I walked in and looked at the menu. I fought my urge to splurge and get a monster burger and just opted for the jumbo with cheese. I was slightly shocked with the price, around $8.60, I guess the spicy fries cost more and I knew the cheese is usually a premium as well. But I usually get a double at whataburger for this price. After watching the yellow picture on the flat screen TV and checking out all of the Bud Light model chicas plastered on the windows, my burger finally arrived. The configuration of my burger was misconstrued, but I am not so picky but prefer that it be made a certain way, maybe this killed the taste which was definitely lacking here. The bun was toasted to near perfection: crispy and golden on the inside. The meat was actually pretty large, a whopping 8oz of beef. Wow, half a pound! Too bad the meat had been cooked without seasoning or very little seasoning. The vegetables were fresh and delicious and very appealing the the eye. The fries were very hot and once they cooled down, very flavorful with ketchup. I might stop back by after I try the new next door competition from out of town. I just have to remember to season the burger myself or ask to have it seasoned while it cooks. read more

The onion rings were okay they were freezer to fryer batter-dipped and taste it like maybe the oil need it changed out in the. Coke straight off the tap was flat before I ever park my car. I get the point of a burger joint that's right off campus and happens to be a local staple unfortunately local Staples tend to drop their standards from time to time because they have a standing in the community. Obviously I'm not completely crapping on the place as the food did taste decent and this was my first visit maybe I caught him on a downstroke. I gave them a 3 because while the price was kind of high is my first visit and maybe next time I show up they'll be a different cook in the kitchen things will taste it a little bit better. The catfish and toast were excellent. Very crispy fried fish. The fries were not good which worked for me to not eat them. The salad was simple but the Ranch dressing tasted store bough which I hate. I'm a fish-eating ovo-lacto vegetarian, or a pescatarian. Therefore I'm pretty familiar with the overall quality of fried fish dinners available in Lubbock. As you've already gathered by the one-star rating, Jumbo Joe's catfish dinner is a contender for the worst in town. It was a festering, putrid and rancid smelling/tasting disaster. (I guess the fries and toast were okay). I brought this meal into my house, ate one of the pieces and then had to walk the fish box out to the garbage outside because it stank of a sun-bloated dead fish carcass and burnt oil. A disgusting and persistent stench remained behind, however. The awfulness of it is somewhat ironic since the catfish dinner is featured on Jumbo Joe's sign in big letters out in front of the restaurant. It ought to contain a Surgeon General's warning instead of an enticement to purchase it. read more

The gentleman looked back at the price and then proceeded to charge me a dollar more than what the price listed. I was taken aback and wondered did they raise their prices. We absolutely love the Jumbo Joes in Plainview so we figured we would try the one on 4th street. The food was just okay... Nothing like the one in Plainview. We always stop and get a cherry limeade well unfortunately my 6 year old pulls out the lime and it still has the sticker on it. If you wash fruits and vegatables wouldn't you make sure the sticker was off of it? Especially if you run a business?
