Went to watch the football game--they opened early and we got there about 15 minutes after open. We ordered food and an hour and a half later, we still had not received it. We inquired about our food, the waitress went to check, and came back to apologize. She said the kitchen had not received our order due to a system reset (other tables around us were getting their orders). She let us know that we were a priority and the kitchen told her they'd have it out in 10 minutes. Almost 30 minutes after that, we were still without our lunch. That being said, we thought it might have a health food type vibe, it does not. The vibe is 70s dive bar. I drink wine, when I asked for a wine list (because there was no wine listed on the menu that was for the bar) our server asked what I like and said they have a house white. The good news is the glass cost $2.50,, the bad news is that it wasn't very tasty. The keto sweet and spicy burger was good, the smoke house burger was great, the salad with fried chicken was excellent and the kids grilled cheese was nice. I've had many good meals here in the past. This one was disappointing. I ordered the lunch house salad and grilled chicken wrap. The portion size was surprising, even for a lunch menu. Not much food at all. The house salad had cucumbers, which I do not eat. Didn't see any in the menu picture. The wrap had fried chicken instead of grilled, and was mostly tortilla. I had to ask for the ranch dressing, but it was good once I got it. Bobby provided excellent service, and the robot food delivery was interesting. I'll be back, but not for lunch. Went here for a celebratory meal. Left frustrated. Arrived well before their 7 PM Happy Hour cutoff. No one greeted us or came by for 15 minutes. We showed her it was still before 7:00 and ordered drinks. She assured us we would get happy hour prices even though the "bar clock" runs 30 minutes ahead. When the ticket arrived, not a single drink was the correct price. (Manager wouldn't correct either...said they go by "bar time" so just know they lie and Happy hour ends closer to 6:00.) They were out of choice one and choice two menu items. So I ordered choice 3 and wasn't impressed. Imagine stir fry with no rice. Checkout process took over 20 minutes so I missed exercise with my friend. They also advertise 50% off for teachers....but that's only lunch. This is not hyperbolic, this is the worst place I have been to here. The website menu doesn't match which is fine to shrink the menu to make it better but it's terrible. Fried broccoli "breaded" in some sort of almond breading but it's more boiled in grease. Awful. Then the gumbo. Dude took a can of Swanson, some scrapes of chicken, and dumped it over rice with some green onions. Literally broth over some really good sausage. There are no redeeming qualities of this place. Went in for lunch. One table occupied with two ladies at it. I sat at bar. Bartender was very friendly. She brought a menu and a beer I ordered. Then disappeared for 10 minutes! When she finally came back I told her that I needed to order. She said ok let me finish this. )I think she was washing salt shakers) I waited another 3 or 4 minutes. Then she takes my order. A lunch special: salad, chicken tenders with fries. Brings out the salad fairly quickly, but it was another 20 minutes for 3 chicken tenders and about 8 fries. I finished and now bartender was in the back. I've been there close to an hour by now and need to get on with my day. I have to walk to the back and tell her that I needed my check. She comes out and gives it to me, pay and I'm gone. Fair price for decent food , nice atmosphere and very pleasant staff but I can't screw off over an hour for a piddly little lunch that I shoulda had in 15 minutes tops. My wife and I have stopped in here about 5 times now. Every time the employees were nice and stayed busy taking care of customers. They have a pretty good draft beer selection, and it is always cold. There are lots of very unusual cocktails too, which is a lot of fun. We have tried a wide variety of their menu items and have not had anything we were unhappy with. It seems like older folks have discovered this place as a large percentage of the clientele are older than 50, with a few middle-aged folks and a very few college aged. I really want to give this place more stars. The food was good but I didn't get what I ordered. I ordered blackened catfish with crawfish sauce and I was served fried catfish. I was supposed to get mashed potatoes and maque choux , what I got was French fries and some sort of tartar sauce. The service was very slow but it was busy. The waitress brought me a side of mashed potatoes but they were awful. Our waitress was very sweet and the food we got was good. I just wish it didn't take so long and that we got what was ordered. This is one of the best places to go in Lubbock. This place really lives up to its name "Sanctuary" as if you need anything more than that! I love coming here to relax after a long day. The staff and owner are so welcoming and not only to me but our children too. Our kids actually ask us to come to the sanctuary, they have amazing appetizers and a great potato soup. The happy hour is also really good! They have an actual variety of drinks to choose from like cocktails, wine and more on their happy hour which makes them pretty unique. I can't say enough about this place it truly is a hidden gem! If you have not been try it out! I guarantee you will not be disappointed. My friends and I love to meet at Sanctuary. We usually order a healthy round of food and drinks and enjoy the atmosphere and the food/drinks there. Their Cucumber Chiltons are delish. This evening with our table of 7 - several of us waited up to 30 minutes to be greeted, and we actually felt bad for the waiter who seemed to be fairly new. Drinks were slow, service was slow and the poor guy was obviously trying his best and he was polite and very nice. However, after being nothing but polite and understanding the whole evening, when the manage checked by when we were leaving, one of the ladies suggested that the young man, and said that while he was trying to be attentive, he could have used some help as there were plenty of servers and the manager seemed to have time on his hands chatting up the bartender and enjoying himself. The manage quickly dismissed my friend's direct, but nicely said, suggestion as if she were a bothersome "Karen" and said they were just busy- without hearing her out or listening or taking her suggestions to heart. He actually turned away while she was talking and walked off. I am tired of the attitude by many that women are not allowed to speak up about service- no matter how nice they are about it. What a judgmental, arrogant manager. If he wasn't being judgmental for those reasons then he still has no business being in charge. Whichever. We have all decided that this won't be a place we care to frequent together again for our outings. Too bad. It was enjoyable other times- but that kind of attitude from a manager on duty is unacceptable- especially considering the majority of the patrons in there this evening, and many times, are women. read more
