With that said, I decided to be on the side of three stars because though the experience was good, the food wasn't up to my standards. Let me be clear, this 'Riccia' dish, with 'fresh pasta ribbons, beef bolognese, parmigiano' was a good pasta dish, really solid. I just found that it was just that, nothing worth remembering. The ambiance, outdoor seating, service were great, and the company was better. My friends were able to get other dishes, such as Spaghetti al Olio (apparently a big favorite), but none of them were so amazing that I would have written a five star review. Let's be honest, I may give this low of a review to any Italian restaurant that does not compare to my home cooking, so that makes me an elitist brat. We're constantly trying to sample all the great restaurants in Fort Greene and we've only gone twice to a few places. This happens to be one of them - the Italian food is solid and not overpriced. The ambiance inside is dark, candlelit, and bustling and makes for a romantic dinner vibe, although also great for groups. The garden out back is bare bones and was filled with families this time. The covered seating out front is more whimsical and charming and that's where we chose to sit. We had the spinach gnocci with bolognese sauce; the bolognese was rich and hearty and was mixed with some cream sauce. The gnocci was tender and you could tell Dino makes their own pasta. My husband had the carbonara with a runny egg mixed on top - perfectly and decandently cheesy and rich, and the pancetta on top was a hit. We split the grilled artichoke salad parm - just the right amount of simple yet flavorful dressing with arugula and mixed greens, and the 4 artichoke hearts tasted freshly grilled. Shaved parm on top made it feel special - this would have taken EFFORT for me to make at home. Service was great and very prompt. A few circulating guys in addition to our waiter were on top of things. I would pass on the hot tea - $4 for Twining's brand. We lingered until 7:45 for our 6:15 reservation and were asked nicely to leave for the next reservation, very understandable but wow! 1.5h is the new standard for a dinner reservation these days! read more

I was working in the area and stumbled upon Dino looking for a place to have lunch with coworkers and was very impressed by the large selection of desirable choices at Dino! I wanted to try everything! I went with the sausage Orecchiette which was so delicious that it rivals the likes of Casa Lever on Park Avenue. Their take on the Aperol Spritz was very smooth and refreshing. And all of their Ice Cream is homeade and so fresh tasting. Our maitreD/waiter/bartender/foodrunner Aaron was the most pleasant, friendly & ATTENTATIVE waiter I have ever had!!!! He was constantly checking on us to see if we needed anything and couldnt do enough for us. He even had them start on our Happy Hour selection a few mins before Happy Hour so we wouldnt have to wait like some silly waiters at other restaurants would. I came here last week after being stuck on the BQE for what felt like hours. My daughter lives nearby so she suggested we get some late lunch. We were seated right away outside. Not every Italian restaurant offers it, but when they do I always order Spaghetti Carbonara. Its a simple dish and it's my favorite. There are always variations, some restaurants add cream, some will serve the pancetta in tiny cubes, some like this rendition are ethereal, no cream, lots of cheese and pancetta that were flat crispy discs. Finished it off with few good cranks of the pepper mill, it was very delicious and I was very happy. My daughter Betty had an equally delicious pasta with Bolognese sauce, her boyfriend Dan had salad with tuna, very good as well. Dino is so low key, yet turns out really fresh, well-executed dishes that will put a smile on your face. The menu is surprisingly deep, particularly the pastas, and the prices are rather low for the rapidly gentrifying corner of Dekalb it occupies. You won't get the faux-European café aesthetic experience like at Saraghina across the street, but the food is way better and you're not getting ripped off for sub-par, lazily assembled food. If your find yourself in Clinton Hill, you gotta try Dino's. Cute & quaint little date spot, serving delicious Italian flavors. Ambiance is great inside, small bar, and seating in the back as well. I really enjoyed their bufala mozzarella & cheese and meat platter to start. Calamari is also delicious and you have the option of having it fried or sautéed. I went light and went with the Caesar salad and added some anchovies to it which worked perfectly (keep in mind they use kale for this). It started raining and we were seated outside. I had the simplest dishes but they didn't feel neither fresh, handmade nor properly cooked : gazpacho and polpettine. Even the bread was just okay. No salt, no pepper, no parmesan. Dino is delicious! I've been twice, first time being about five years ago and second time was just a few days ago. The first time I sat out front and the last time I sat in the lovely backyard patio. I don't remember what I ate the firs take, but my friend remembers that I had the black squid ink pasta, which sounds about right and she had the gnocchi. This time, my friend and I enjoyed some cocktails and bread while we mused over the options. We ended up ordering from the specials and sharing the pear Gorgonzola salad and two orders of the ricotta meatballs. The salad was delightful, with thinly sliced grilled pears and a decorous dressing. The meatballs were absolutely amazing! The outside was crispy and the inside was tender and perfectly seasoned. The tomato based sauce with freshly shaved cheese was the perfect touch. We left very happy. Our waitress was just okay. We get she was probably tired and over it all, but as fellow folks in service positions, she could have been a bit more gracious. With that said, I would still go back with a friend, a date or family for some delicious eats. Shoot, I'd even return for a spot at the bar and a tasty solo dinner. read more

Lemon spaghetti is simple but extremely delicious!!! I will definitely be back. It was creamy, the Parmesan taste was delightful, and it was a wonderful summer dish. Side salad was tasty. In my opinion, it was a little too chopped for my liking. It did compliment the pasta - and definitely would need a fresh green to compliment. Service was delightful. The waitress was very kind, down to earth, and I liked this. She also asked if we would like some coloring paper and crayons. I was surprised they offered this. Such a beautiful fish print out. Made a reservation and seated right away. This is a really cute, intimate restaurant. Great for friends, but probably not a date--it's loud. The staff are efficient, but not detailed. For an Italian restaurant I would expect they'd come around and offer Parmesan and pepper to garnish a dish. Nada. We ordered the spinach gnocchi and the Bolognese. The gnocchi was raw. I'm not sure if it had been cooked back into potato oblivion or was never cooked in the first place. Interestingly within 30mins of arriving our entrees had already been served and cleared. When I mentioned to the waitress the gnocchi was undercooked she asked if I wanted another and I declined. I probably should have been more clear with my complaint, because I really didn't want to pay for inedible pasta. The desserts were great. Interestingly it took 20 minutes for those dishes that didn't require cooking/heating to arrive. Wouldn't go back when there's so many other good places nearby. read more

I've been to Dino on occasion over the last few years - the food has never let me down. Specifically love their rigatoni - nice take on an old classic. And the BLT. Plentiful bacon and great bread make this a go to. Good service, good drinks, nice ambiance. So why 3 stars? Sadly their to-go packaging is, like so many places, an environmental nightmare. Order a sandwich and it comes in one of those bulletproof plastic containers that will stick around for 2 hundred years. I ask for no plastic utensils they give me 2 sets. The food we eat and the environment are NOT separate. Plastic is in the food chain, climate scientists predict crop failure and shortages from drought and floods - get with it! I'd suggest they go to Mekelburgs who miraculously can pack a sandwich without hard plastic and still kill it as a business. Other places put hot food/salads in coated cardboard - no problem. This would be a 4 or 5 star review and I'd still be ordering from Dino but I'm done with businesses that are out here trying to maximize their carbon footprint. Please change. read more

After a terrible experience at Imani down the block, our group of 3 came here. We had a long day of post Memorial Day traveling yesterday, and we wanted to treat ourselves to a late "brunch". I was absolutely thrilled with everything from the service to the food to the vibe! Waitress came outside while we were perusing the menu to welcome us and let us know that the lunch menu would be ending soon, which we appreciated. We were seated immediately, drinks were on point - blood orange margarita and Prosecco. My steak and eggs was delicious. My sister had polenta and eggs, also delicious. Four of us dined here on a Thursday. We've eaten at the original Dino's in Syracuse and by comparison--in terms of space--the Brooklyn location is a palace. We sampled a few appetizers which were well done and then delighted in some bbq with suitable sides. The meat--St. Louis ribs, brisket, and pork belly were all excellent as were the side dishes, especially some of the non-carb heavy sides (e.g., the braised greens and spicy cucumber salad). Corn bread was on point. We had two quibbles with our evening. Service was slow and uneven which was surprising for a Thursday night. Additionally, most of the bbq came out from the kitchen pre-sauced which is generally not how it might come out of the kitchen in a southern rib joint (where diners would be allowed the opportunity to sauce it themselves). Nothing wrong with the sauce mind you, but the amount of sauce sort of overwhelmed the flavor of the meat. We certainly enjoyed our meal and would gladly return since I suspect that quality bbq is difficult to find in these parts. read more

Although lately Dino can be hit or miss... I'm still a fan. The 4 star rating stems from the specifics that I describe below (it is not a 4 star overall rating of the restaurant). KALE: I have been patronizing this local restaurant since it opened a few years ago. I used to LOVE their black kale caesar salad (which they no longer serve). However, they have replaced that with the black kale panzanella, which is warm, savory and very tasty. FISH SPECIALS: I do not say this about most restaurants, but my favorite entrees at Dino have historically been their fish specials. I have had some of the most interesting, fresh and tasty bites of fish at Dino. Having said that, you never know when a fish special will be on point. BRUNCH [ESP. FRENCH TOAST]: We stopped in for brunch a few months ago and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the eggs & polenta and it was delicious. However, I want to RAVE about the Dino French Toast that my spouse ordered. I rarely like french toast - too sweet for my taste - especially when drenched in syrup. This was NOT a traditional french toast. It was a slice of thick pullman bread stuffed with berries and it was only slightly sweet. We were able to add maple syrup and fresh, homemade whipped cream to our taste. For the win. KITCHEN TABLE: I went to Dino two years ago for my birthday and we reserved the large kitchen table that is indoors and I just loved sitting there. You feel like you are dining in someone's farmhouse kitchen if you are able to fill the table with friends/family. I would say that TABLE is my favorite table to sit at in Brooklyn.
