We have been going to Ding Ho for around 45 years, when they were located on Broad St. We had moved to the East Side and thought they were gone, then found them again on Phillipi Rd. My family all believe Ding ho is the best Chinese restaurant in Columbus! We will be going for my Birthday soon. read more

First time at the restaurant after seeing the online videos and it was exactly what I expected it would be. We started with the egg rolls, calamari with jalapeno and spare ribs. Egg rolls and calamari were extremely good, especially with the combo of duck sauce and hot mustard. Then came the main course war sui gai and some pork and mushroom egg foo yung. The war sui gai was pleasant, it could have been crispier for my liking but the gravy and scallions made it a nice dish. The egg foo yung was a very large portion. I loved the gravy and the patties were pretty good. This meal had a number of high points including great service with no low points. My advice , order many different things and enjoy. read more

Good that there's a bit more "variety" and "fusion" going on now, leading to some more creative/non-standard choices, and bad that some of those "classic" recipes are either not as good as they used to be, or disappearing altogether. Neither the former nor the latter was the case here at Ding Ho on the early Feb. evening when I ventured east to an UYE with Mike G. and Marlena. Easy parking, clean and comfortable dining area, and PLENTY of tempting choices greeted us, and it was tough to narrow down what to order. We ordered apps. (pretty good/standard egg rolls and crab rangoon,) WONDERFUL (best I've ever had!!) won-ton soup, and shared a few entrees. Mike G. swears by the hot and sour soup and wor-su-gai, my honey walnut chicken was pretty good (I'd go with something spicier next time) and though I don't remember what M. had, I do remember she enjoyed it very much!! Long wait times at the door and at the table. Seems as if they are understaffed. Crab Rangoons were light on filling, however the wonton soup was really nicely done. Again, the wantons could have been filled a bit more, but the flavor was delicious. For an entree I went with the sweet and sour chicken. It was above average. read more

My husband and I just went to Ding Ho for late lunch/dinner today. I wish I could say that it lived up to the hype, but it fell flat. Went at 3:30, had to wait, only 15 mins, so no biggie, I know they are busy. The servers are obviously not used to being this busy because it took a good 10 mins for her to take our food order. The wonton soup was good except the wontons had so little filling that we thought they didn't have any at all. The egg roll was the best part of the meal. It was excellent! Crab Rangoon was good, lots of filling. The sweet and sour sauce is not something I really cared for, it was very thin and vinegary. The hot mustard was alright but seemed watered down. Now the entrees. Oh I wish they had been good. My husband got General Tso's because it's his favorite. It was sweet but no spice, and felt underseasoned, and just not that great. My Moo Goo Gai Kew was so bland and flavorless. I was so sad. The fried rice was fine but nothing to brag about. All in all, I'd say a 3 out of 5 stars and we won't go back. But by all means, try it yourself. Maybe you will have a different experience. When we left around 5, they were on an hour wait for dinner. On a positive, everything was fresh. I've been going to Ding Ho for over 30 yrs. My mom worked at the original one many yrs ago. I had my favorite dishes that was my celebration comfort food. While in town visiting, I got to eat dinner with Mike G (one of my all time favorite yelpers) and we came here to eat so I could see him in his natural environment. (eating Chinese Food. LOL.) We were given menus and there is a ton of food here to choose from. We started out with soup, and Mike G had the hot and sour while I went with Won Ton soup to start. We decided to split a dinner since the dinner portions are huge here. They give you plenty of options during the course of ordering on how you want things prepared. For example, you can request no pork in your soup, and the chicken was offered as either white meat or dark meat. I like this, instead of being told what I will have, I could actually choose! (YES!) The soup was fabulous and we ordered Wor Sue Gai for our meal. We went with the dark meat and Mike G gave me the history on this dish. I guess not everyone offers it on their menu, and its a Columbus favorite. It comes on rice with an orange sauce similar looking to sweet and sour sauce. The dinner portion was huge, and easily could feed two people no matter how you cut it. We went with white rice, but you can get fried rice if you choose. Read a lot about this place on the Internet so I drove from Cinci up to try. Won ton soup looked like a dream but tasted like pork broth, noodles were barely stuffed. A BIG minus to start. 3 out of 10. Egg roll was large and was okay but the hot mustard was very watery. Egg roll was an 8 out of 10. Main course was cashew chicken. Nothing but onions and chicken. Terrible. 2 out of 10. Fried rice was okay but it was plain. 5 out of 10. All in all, I can not recommend this place. The eggrolls were pink inside like if you let potato's sit too long after peeling. There was gigantic chunks of cabbage and who knows what else because I couldn't tell what else was inside it was all pink. The entrees come and my chicken smells like it's turned bad, & the rice was wayyyy too mushy and under seasoned. It was basically overcooked rice with soy sauce so maybe don't advertise it as fried rice. The lemon chicken also had coconut shredded over top...why?? It changed the whole flavor of the sauce. Several weeks ago, I drove to the west side of Columbus to the nearest Popeye's restaurant to get a chicken sandwich. The drive thru at Popeye's was actually backed up onto W. Ding Ho has the best vegetable egg rolls that I've ever tasted. They are large, freshly made, and absolutely delicious! They use only great quality ingredients. I've only tried their Kung Pao Chicken and Szechuan Chicken with friend rice. Both dishes were DELICIOUS!!!
