Long wait times at the door and at the table. Seems as if they are understaffed. Crab Rangoons were light on filling, however the wonton soup was really nicely done. Again, the wantons could have been filled a bit more, but the flavor was delicious. For an entree I went with the sweet and sour chicken. It was above average. read more

My husband and I just went to Ding Ho for late lunch/dinner today. I wish I could say that it lived up to the hype, but it fell flat. Went at 3:30, had to wait, only 15 mins, so no biggie, I know they are busy. The servers are obviously not used to being this busy because it took a good 10 mins for her to take our food order. The wonton soup was good except the wontons had so little filling that we thought they didn't have any at all. The egg roll was the best part of the meal. It was excellent! Crab Rangoon was good, lots of filling. The sweet and sour sauce is not something I really cared for, it was very thin and vinegary. The hot mustard was alright but seemed watered down. Now the entrees. Oh I wish they had been good. My husband got General Tso's because it's his favorite. It was sweet but no spice, and felt underseasoned, and just not that great. My Moo Goo Gai Kew was so bland and flavorless. I was so sad. The fried rice was fine but nothing to brag about. All in all, I'd say a 3 out of 5 stars and we won't go back. But by all means, try it yourself. Maybe you will have a different experience. When we left around 5, they were on an hour wait for dinner. On a positive, everything was fresh. Oh my God! I finally found the best egg rolls and egg foo young. When we are in Columbus this is our first stop.

CLASSIC, "old school" Chinese... They don't make 'em like this anymore, and that's both a good AND bad thing!! Good that there's a bit more "variety" and "fusion" going on now, leading to some more creative/non-standard choices, and bad that some of those "classic" recipes are either not as good as they used to be, or disappearing altogether. Neither the former nor the latter was the case here at Ding Ho on the early Feb. evening when I ventured east to an UYE with Mike G. and Marlena. Easy parking, clean and comfortable dining area, and PLENTY of tempting choices greeted us, and it was tough to narrow down what to order. We ordered apps. (pretty good/standard egg rolls and crab rangoon,) WONDERFUL (best I've ever had!!) won-ton soup, and shared a few entrees. Mike G. swears by the hot and sour soup and wor-su-gai, my honey walnut chicken was pretty good (I'd go with something spicier next time) and though I don't remember what M. had, I do remember she enjoyed it very much!! Friendliest staff ever but it does not compensate for the incredibly mediocre food. We were lured in by an Instagram reel and had high hopes for the food. We had also requested nuts on the side since we had a few peanut allergies and that was the ignored. A BIG minus to start. 3 out of 10. Egg roll was large and was okay but the hot mustard was very watery. Egg roll was an 8 out of 10. Main course was cashew chicken. Nothing but onions and chicken. While in town visiting, I got to eat dinner with Mike G (one of my all time favorite yelpers) and we came here to eat so I could see him in his natural environment. (eating Chinese Food. LOL.) I was excited to see what the place was all about and I was not disappointed! Walking in, the place is large and has plenty of seating for many people. We were given menus and there is a ton of food here to choose from. We started out with soup, and Mike G had the hot and sour while I went with Won Ton soup to start. We decided to split a dinner since the dinner portions are huge here. They give you plenty of options during the course of ordering on how you want things prepared. For example, you can request no pork in your soup, and the chicken was offered as either white meat or dark meat. I like this, instead of being told what I will have, I could actually choose! (YES!) The soup was fabulous and we ordered Wor Sue Gai for our meal. We went with the dark meat and Mike G gave me the history on this dish. I guess not everyone offers it on their menu, and its a Columbus favorite. It comes on rice with an orange sauce similar looking to sweet and sour sauce. The dinner portion was huge, and easily could feed two people no matter how you cut it. We went with white rice, but you can get fried rice if you choose. We had more then enough food for the two of us, and were both full by the end of the meal. Our server was fabulous and totally on point with everything while we dined here. Better expect noodle soup drenched with white sauce, disgusting. Same odd recipes with cashew chicken (comes with about 3/4 pounds of snow peas and white sauce, no other veggies) and I won't even go into the horrible sauces of General Tsos or Kung Pao. It was definitely fresh and hot however it was just breaded chicken and sauce - nothing else. I would have liked either broccoli or green peppers to make the dish feel more special. Seemed popular though and our waitress (youngish Caucasian woman) recommended it and another dish that also wasn't overly enjoyed, but she said others enjoyed it... So just us. I had lunch today ordered lemon chicken & fried rice. My husband and I shared the large appetizer also, it wad 2 ribs, 2 shrimps, & 2 large eggrolls. The eggrolls were pink inside like if you let potato's sit too long after peeling. There was gigantic chunks of cabbage and who knows what else because I couldn't tell what else was inside it was all pink. The entrees come and my chicken smells like it's turned bad, & the rice was wayyyy too mushy and under seasoned. It was basically overcooked rice with soy sauce so maybe don't advertise it as fried rice. The lemon chicken also had coconut shredded over top...why?? It changed the whole flavor of the sauce. Don't listen to these folks who don't understand how a viral video could impact a small family owned and operated establishment. My wife loves the sweet and sour chicken. My friend has been raving about this place since it's been on the west side for so long. When you walk in, feels like a Chinese restaurant out of an 80's movie. Plenty of seating. Multiple rooms. I have never been more embarrassed for someone to offer to pay for my meal. My better-half's family is from the west-side. I get that it is an institution. However, that is where it ends. We got there before her parents, and the crass server was exactly what you would expect from a waffle house at 4am, NOT at a place that expects 18 a dish for chicken and white rice. From her aggressive "ha ha, this is my personality" (it was not working) to her getting actually mad that we still had menus (which are laminated) when food was served. She damn near lost it saying it isn't a napkin. You don't eat on other menus. blah blah, the owner!!! Talk about PTSD. BY the way, owner, you should have your staff sanitize every menu after it touches a guests hand. Whether they visibly soil it or not. The fact this is such a problem for your server shows you do not do that as custom. There was nothing redeemable about this place. Heck, they even had the nerve to put a wrong-fitting "cloche/lid" on the dish, it just was like, here, F'you. And they give the guest crap for eating when the menu is on the table?
