It's been a couple of years since I've been in Lei's Asian Bistro, my wife and I were meeting another couple for dinner and they had never been here before. The restaurant is a family owned and operated restaurant. We met the young couple who owns it and had a nice conversation with both of them. The wife was actually our server, I tried the Hot and Spicy soup which was indeed spicy. I also had an excellent egg roll along with the spicy version of the Szechuan chicken and both were delicious. My wife passed on the appetizers and ordered the Seafood Delight which she said was delightful. It had a light, white sauce and was very flavorful. One of our friends had a chicken and rice stir fry and the other had Wor-Sur-Gai. Both of them enjoyed their meals. The food and service were excellent. We'll be back. read more

The sweet-and-sour sauce was sweeter than I usually like. I wouldn't reorder these. Wonton Soup 1/2 The broth was decent, and I liked the wonton noodles. The pork was the issue for me. The broth contained very little pork, and the filling inside the wontons had a dense, chewy texture with a flavor I couldn't enjoy. I ended up removing the filling and eating the wrappers instead. Pork Singapore Noodles The seasoning reminded me of chicken ramen noodles. Not bad--just not something I'd specifically come back for. The pork, however, was excellent. The cut and seasoning were my favorite part of the entire meal and made me interested in trying another pork dish. Chicken Lo Mein I didn't taste it myself, but my dining partner described it as flavorful and said they'd absolutely order it again. Final Thoughts Lei's didn't win me over with the appetizers, but it showed enough promise that I'd come back for another pork entrée and let the rest of the menu make its case. Got takeout and was really happy with it. Portions were a good size, and everything had a lot of flavor. The chicken lo mein was so good, and the General Tso's chicken with white rice was very solid. If you want more broccoli, order the $5 side, the main plates are mostly chicken, which I personally prefer. The place itself is lovely with lots of seating. Our first carryout after seeing good reviews. The egg roll w shrimp was good but overly crisp. Hot and sour soup was inedible, not sour but extremely peppery, no pork/meat present. We ordered sesame beef and general tso shrimp. Both entries were coated in a sweet brown gelatinous sauce. We could NOT differentiate between the "beef" - (looked like chicken), or "shrimp". The place was very clean smelling and looking when I first walked in. The service was very prompt. I ordered Togo since I was staying in the hotel next door. Got my food in less than 10 minutes. They did give me the wrong rice but when he read off what was in the bag I caught it. They let me keep the mistaken rice. The greeter and the waitress were nice, the place was clean and the service was good but I was disappointed with my food. I ordered tofu pad thai - they call it pai thai - which was shown on the menu with a chili pepper which means hot and spicy. The waitress checked to make sure I wanted it hot and spicy. I said yes. When it arrived, it was neither hot nor spicy. In fact, it wasn't even tangy as most pad thai is. It was just sweet! Eww. The first thing I noticed walking into Lei's is it is very clean, organized and the are playing soft, peaceful music. I ordered lunch cashew chicken and my mom ordered Pork Egg Foo Young. Most restaurants don't even make egg foo young anymore because it is labor intensive. My meal came quickly but the egg foo young took awhile. Good things take time! When it came out, it was super fresh, hot and fluffy. I'd never seen it so fluffy before and the owner said that's the sign of freshly made egg foo young. One of my favorite little hidden gems in Columbus. Never super busy or loud with a fully packed dining room. Every time I've been in there are only ever a few customers, so a good spot for a date or catching up with friends. The food exceeded my expectations the most. The beef and broccoli always tastes super fresh and sautéed in plenty of sauce so it's not lacking in flavor. The chicken is consistently crunchy and not chewy like it's been sitting out. The yellow curry that came on the Singapore noodles was absolutely incredible. In the basil chicken, the sauce was delightful and savory. The chicken cooked perfectly and the fried rice that came with it was pretty standard. The PORTION SIZES. This is worth even the dinner prices. The Singapore noodles came with no less than 13 million total noodles. I'll likely never be back through here but if you're coming through, this place is outstanding. Also, we're from Texas and love spicy, we are realizing that even though we asked for extra extra spice, it's not spicy. This doesn't mean it's bland, but don't expect any kicks anywhere. Reading these reviews, I feel like I wasn't at the same restaurant. Service was polite, so the stars are for that. Environment was bleak and uninviting, and the food was a step down from Panda Express. Each dish from soup to entree contained grocery-store quality frozen foods. The wontons in soup and egg rolls were very clearly not made here, just reheated and/or fried. My daughter recognized the vegetables in her fried rice as the frozen bags of "mixed veggies" that they get at school, and the taste/texture confirmed. I don't know what kind of "beef" that was, but we couldn't chew it. There aren't a lot of easy Chinese options in this area which is a shame, but this isn't it. For the price, I expect more than frozen Costco appetizers. read more

A new renovated space that seems perfect for a simple family dinner. The service was efficient and friendly. The owner seems to know a lot of the regulars. We went on a Friday night and the place had a steady stream of both takeout and dine in customers. The vegetables are very fresh and the food has a lot of that quintessential "wok hei / dragon's breath" in their dishes. I'm looking forward to more of an authentic Chinese menu soon (ie: salted fish fried rice) to come per the owner. Everything we had was really good.
