I have been told by the people of Powell this is the best place to get Chinese. I thought it was pretty average. I think other local places in Powell are just as amazing. We went here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't very busy so we were seated immediately. I had Shanghai homestyle tofu and he had the mala string beans (spicy). Mine was veggies and very firm tofu in a brown sauce. It was good and I love how they have the crispiest tofu I've ever had. His was a big plate of just mala string beans, but he loved it. Easy to find vegan options here. The food came out so fast, but tasted fresh and hot that we were surprised. We both had water (sadly a plastic straw already inserted) and he ordered hot tea. The tea came in a metal pot with a fancy glass teacup. The table had white linen with a paper square on top and candles so it felt very fancy. They also had outdoor seating. Our meal was $26.40 before tip including the $2.50 hot tea so it was very affordable despite being so fancy. The restaurant is also only 5 minutes away from the Columbus Zoo so it was a great way to end our zoo trip. read more

I'm only reviewing based on ordering take out and not physically eating there! My boyfriend said this is his favorite place for Chinese food. They do have a plethora of food options from more authentic Asian cuisine to your more "Americanized" cuisine. I got the beef chow fun and sweet and sour chicken. My boyfriend raves about their sweet and sour chicken, which I thought was good, but the beef show fun really lacked flavor. I kept having to add the soy sauce packets to my noodles. I also had a chance to try the chicken fried rice and it's kind of bland. When I think of fried rice, I think of color and flavor, but I had to add soy sauce and my friend kept adding soy sauce too. The food at Shanghai Lily is really good. I had the Kung Pao chicken the last couple times I have been here and loved it. The chicken was all white meat and the sauce was spicy with a little sweetness. This is definitely one of the best Kung Pao chicken dishes I have ever eaten. I want to give this place more then three stars but each time I eat here the service is lacking. The last few servers have seen completely disinterested in any type of brief conversation beyond quickly taking your order and walking away. I might understand the lack of engagement if this place were busy and they are working hard to keep up; however each time I've been here, there were no other customers. Not the best chinese restaurant around it does the job. We ordered three dishes and the beef with broccoli was probably the best out of the three. The kung pao chicken was a let down, do not order that. The water chestnut to chicken ratio was so large that i dont think i tasted any chicken. Because there are better asian restaurants around, unless this is close to where you live, I wouldnt recommend this restaurant. read more

Shanghai Lily is a staple in our regular ordering. We have been getting amazing food from them for over 11 years now living here. I do admit I tend to stick to my tried and true Seafood dishes, Moo goo gai pan and Pad thai. Last night I changed it up and ordered the Short Rib dinner for the first time. It was absolutely fantastic. Each bite was packed with flavor and the large chunks of meat were falling apart perfectly. It may be the best thing I have ever had on their menu! I've passed this several times but not when I needed lunch. Today, it worked out. Called ahead (doesn't seem to have online ordering, but the old ways still work) and it was ready in 10 minutes. I only went in the lobby, but it looks like a fancy, dark, old-school strip mall Chinese place. Friendly service, reasonable prices. Interesting menu. I went with standbys: pad Thai and Mongolian beef. The pad Thai was a huge portion, pretty standard production, lots of beef, nice sauce, etc. The Mongolian beef was a bit less just because 1/3 of the box was rice, but still a good lunch portion. Tender beef, tasty onions, a flavorful sauce that wasn't too salty. I wanted more when I got home, and even wanted it in the morning. Yum. If I lived nearby I would be here often. read more

Thai was a big win. We wanted something close and fast after leaving the zoo/ zoombezi Bay Area. Close with convenient parking. The food was so good. Started with edamame and potstickers then had egg drop soup. The soup came in bowls that we could share. We had chicken Lo meij and chicken fried rice which the kids and adults devoured. The garlic pork was spicy and had a good amount of veggies including water chestnuts which I loved. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. I would visit again when we are in this area. So me and my boyfriend went to this place one time...it was our first time and usually at night they're busy but we went during lunch time and no one was there. It was just us two in the dinning room. It was a nice set up but our table cloth was a bit dirty from stains and also very quite. They have no music playing at all lol. But overall decorated decent...I ordered general Tso chicken(my favorite) with just steamed white rice. Might I say, once I finished, there was more rice than chicken. I didn't even finish all my rice. Flavor wise it tasted ok, I've had better. My boyfriend ordered lo mein with veggies and fried chicken for the appetizer. First off the fried chicken was VERY salty. And it also tasted like other food. So I assume they fry everything in the same oil. So it wasn't good at all we actually sent it back and got it taken off our bill. I tasted his lo mein, he liked it but I didn't. It didn't taste like every other lo mein Ive had. The taste was distinct and different. And unfortunately the day after we ate, I got sick. I like the artwork here. Interior design was beautifully set up. Looks clean. I love the classical music playing in the background. Hit or miss - some food is very good but some are not. My dad who have eaten at many Chinese restaurants was happy with Shanghai Lily.

This small restaurant in Shawnee Hills is our go to for Chinese takeout. The food is consistently delicious. Never had a bad meal from them. We always order the basic stuff: Sweet and Sour pork, Cashew Chicken, Beef Broccoli, plus this top notch Garlic Scallops. We've hsd their fried rice before, but typically, we order white rice. Another dish I always order is the Garlic Eggplant. It's prepared with the Japanese small eggplant, and it's cooked perfectly - firm, not mushy. The dining room at Shanghai Lilly is very pleasant, nicely decorated and quiet. Good ambiance, simple. The service there has always been great too, over the phone when I call the order, and in person. read more

This is a local lunch stop for me. It works on a couple of levels. First, the lunch menu is limited and inexpensive. That means the kitchen delivers quickly to the customer and the meals are steaming hot and tasty. Portion control means you're getting what you pay for.... no food coma afterwards as the meals are plated in edible allotments and don't killl you as in most "American-ized" restaurants. My meals are eaten in the small cafe/bar area and here's my dig. The owners and wait staff (one in the same I think) are prepping for the evening's meals so on more than one occassion I've had to watch as green beans or other veggies are removed from the counter where they're being cut. Not exactly professional. And the lunch wait staff is a bit gruff.... maybe the bar isn't best for lunch service....yet it's fast and hot. Menu? Basic. Chicken, beef, pork, fried rice, veggies. It works. I like hot & sour soup and its tasty. The place is bigger inside than what it looks when you park and the dining room is nice. I would say try it and see. The basics work for me. read more

The food was verygood.service was another story.We had a party of 5 and there were two other larger tables in the restaurant. the server was a little frazzled and kept apologizing.she was doing fine and all of a sudden disappeared.We had to hunt her down for boxes and our check.We found her in the bar talking.apparently she preferred the bar clients to a table of 5 paying for dinner.We have been here before and service has always been a little slow but this was worse than usual.if you are going to have a restaurant, serve your clients.if you want a beer, close the restaurant or find a way to staff for both. read more

Food is good. The lettuce wraps were delicious. Twice I ordered takeout specifically Singapore Noodles and I always mention that I am allergic to shell fish and they put shrimp in the dish. It disappointing when you come home Hungary and the takeout can't be eaten. read more

Ordered takeout fried rice with vegetables and chicken. Totally disappointed. Thought the vegetables would be small peas and carrots and maybe baby corn. My mistake by not asking. Looked like leftover steamed rice with overcooked broccoli. Appearance and smell very unappetizing. We returned. Explanation went something like we do not use soy sauce in our fried rice because of MSG. And decrease oil, not as greasy. Healthier. No indication of this practice noted on menu. Last time I checked recipe for fried rice, it included soy sauce as well as sesame oil. If I wanted to be healthy, I would have ordered steamed rice! Also ordered Hunan chicken, spicy. NO little red peppers or anything to make it spicy. This was previously spouse's favorite. So bland that I, (who cannot tolerate spicy foods) could eat it with no problem. Do you like water chestnuts? I mean, do you REALLY like water chestnuts? Then you will love Shanghai Lily's Kung Pao Scallops and Cashew Chicken. In each dish, the ingredients were lots and lots of water chestnuts (as in, 2-3 cups of them), nuts/peanuts, and a little bit of scallops or chicken. That's it. Not a vegetable in sight. They really should change the names of these dishes to Kung Pao Water Chestnuts and Cashew Water Chestnuts. It was edible, and the chicken and scallops were both fresh, but I just have no desire to eat 2-3 cups of water chestnuts for dinner. The hostess was nice, though. read more

A good Chinese restaurant is hard to find, especially in the service. I came in this restaurant with no expectations what so ever. I walked in and was immediately greeting by a beautiful hostess. My server came and introduced himself, he was so polite and patient with my order, I was never rushed. He helped me with recommendations which came out to be fantastic. The food was amazing, the best general tso's I've ever had. The fried rice was freshly made and wonderful. My server refilled my drinks on a very timely manner. Most Chinese restaurants don't even refill my water until I ask. The food and alcohol was very reasonably priced. This is my family new favorite restaurant. Great service, great food. read more
