Good Chinese food. Almost as good as Peking Dynasty with similar menu. This one delivers while the other is dine in and take out only. Not sure if they are co-owned or a spin off or what. The bourbon chicken was out of this world the crab Rangoon's were fluffy and perfectly cooked and filled to the rim. My husband said the general tso chicken was also very good. Well it's an option amongst a sea of terrible dining options in this area. Just stopped by for a quick lunch on a long road trip. Can't expect authentic in midwest is what I've come to learn. Although owners and cashier appear to be Chinese, actual cooks are not. I got the shrimp lo mein. Pretty good portion size even for the 'small' size. It was cooked on the spot as it seemed business was rather slow that day. Took maybe 15 mins. Tasted pretty bland. But at least it was served hot and at a good price (under $8). read more

So I feel a bit mixed on this review. I will get into that later. Parking - not an issue there because the restaurant is in a shopping strip. I feel long term the strip is going to be gone due to gentrification. Nonetheless, this review is for now. I placed my order on line which was easy to do no issues. It provides you a pick up time as well which I thought was cool. I get there 5 min before my pick up time and talk to the "kid" behind the glass who does not know how or what info to obtain in order to find my order. After giving him my name about 5 times telling him the approximate costs and then finally telling him I ordered on line he went back and found my order. So I paid for my bill and then sat back and waited for an additional 35 min for my order. The food was very good. Shrimp fried rice, chicken and broccoli, general taos chicken, fried chicken wings and shrimp and broccoli. Everything was excellent and the chicken wings were huge! Why am I torn? Clearly a mom and pop operation, kid at the register, older son in the back answering the phone and doing something else, mom and dad cooking away in the kitchen with two other helpers. They were working hard. As I was standing there observing the traffic was steady, the orders where mostly small and quick but every person had a least a 10-15 min wait even if they ordered on line or called in. They can use some help in organizing and work flow process. Clearly they have a good product; however, they workflow can use some improvements and the tools used to help are not doing a good job with helping. I do recommend and one will or should enjoy the food. Order in advance and realize you need to add 15min to your order if a normal order if large then 30 min. This was a Thursday night about 8:30 so an off night. I would hate to see during a busy time! read more

I've been meaning to try this for a long time, but it's out of my way and always busy. I'm glad I tried it, and if you live nearby and do carryout it is pretty good. It's small, and mostly does carryout. It was busy at 130 on a weekday, but they were efficient. I had Singapore Mei Fun and crab Rangoon. They came out super hot, which would be great for carryout, but be careful if you are eating there. Huge portions of both. The mei fun is thin noodles in a slightly spicy curry sauce, with lots of meat and veggies. Very good, though there were bits of bone and gristle in the chicken (I think) that made me pick through carefully. The Rangoons were freshly made and pretty good, but almost all cheese, little crab. Because it's small and has an open kitchen, it is very noisy, and crowded. Not an issue if you get it to go, but not a very fun dine-in experience. Pop is cans or bottles, utensils are plastic. Pretty standard menu, not much different or interesting, but it's good stuff, and if I lived nearby I'd get it once in awhile. read more

Picked up food to discover no rice had been added to the order. Upon calling, they offered $2.00 off our next order for their mistake. So they are replacing the missing food with a $2.00 discount. Tried to explain that we paid for food we didn't received, she stated "our rice is free". Spring rolls doughy, undercooked. Must order white meat, otherwise too tough and chewy. Got an aching for Chinese food? Come to Peking Wok. Just tried this small mom and pop for some take out. Very impressed I was. Nothing to look at. This place seats 20 people max. Come for the food and fair prices. I got the Szechuan Chicken with Fried Rice and a small order of Hot and Sour Soup. All very excellent. Portions were very good and as usual I ate half for lunch and had the other half for dinner. Szechuan Chicken was spicy, with a hint of smokeyness. Plenty of sauce but not too much. Generous amounts of chicken, with baby corn, green bean, mushroom, bamboo and water chestnuts. The fried rice was excellent as it also had some bean sprouts, and onion in it. The soup was spicy and hearty with plenty of stuff in it. The food was more what I'd expect in a moderately priced Chinese restaurant, not a hole in the wall, family owned place. I will definitely go back again and try more. Of my last three Chinese restaurant reviews, this one is by far the best and it doesn't cost any more than the others. My order by the way was only $5.25. If you are driving down Broad Street in Franklinton, check them out. read more

It did have a nice flavor to it though. The rice was nice & fluffy. I was disappointed they didn't include broccoli pieces in it like a lot of places do. I'm a huge chicken lo mein fan, but this one wasn't my favorite. I find it's very hit or miss in these strip mall joints. The oil it was cooked in was decent, not the greatest, & they added in minced red chili pepper (or Thai bird?) peppers to it. Very out of place, giving it a weird taste & texture. Please leave this out of the noodles. I hate egg rolls unless they're homemade, but this one was pretty good. I don't think you'll be disappointed with them. Though I have many more items to sample, I think I'll try other places first for my usual dish I order. I've only encountered one generic Chinese joint in my 28 years of life that absolutely blew me away with perfect spice & great noodles, but sadly it's in Naples, FL. Usually end up getting something that is dine in, but taking it out to order, which typically makes it more expensive. Not this place! I have to say it's a breath of fresh air. Peking Wok is primarily a carry out only establishment that makes it easy to throw on sweats, walk in and walk out with delicious, American-Chinese. I had the general tsos and I'm STUFFED, with eggrolls for 7.00. It's West Broad street surroundings are mildly sketchy, but It's the bottoms. If your looking for a good alternative to Panda Express close to the city center, look no further than Peking Wok. They offer great quality Chinese at a reasonable price (though it's not as cheap as I've seen). A quart of beef lo mein will set you back over $9 with tax. However, the stifling amount you get, as well as the flavor and speed at which you receive it, I can say mostly makes up for it. Something that I found a little alarming is that the lo mien (my dish of choice) smelled pretty strong of peanut oil, yet mentioned no where on the menu is a warning for those who have peanut allergies. Maybe my nose deceived me, however peanuts are pretty distinct in aroma so I wouldn't trust it if you are allergic to peanuts and/or their derivatives. My next complaint would be that it's not centered in the most inviting of areas, and when I returned my second time, there appeared to be a homeless junkie sleeping half naked near the entrance; and those inside looked devious in nature. The location and customer base were not factored into the rating of this review however, as it is not of the businesses control; it's just mentioned as a means of warning those who plan to visit. I wouldn't bring your kids here if I were you. The service itself is great, and those working there are very friendly and eager to get you your food. Though they pitch a 10 minute wait, I've never waited over 5. All in all, Peking Wok is a small somewhat affordable authentic Chinese establishment capable of satisfying most if all of your Chinese cravings, (it's a struggle) and for that, I must give it my seal of approval. The place is clean in physicality and preparation, yet not in atmosphere or environment. Since moving downtown, I've been searching for a reliable Chinese takeout place. Lots of places are hit-or-miss in the German Village/downtown area. This spot lives up to its great reviews. For $20 we got a quart of wonton soup and two large entrees. The wontons were plentiful and substantial, and the broth was very tasty. The ingredients in the entrees tasted fresh, and they had tons of vegetables. Nothing was overly greasy or too salty. Two entrees were enough for our Oscar watching night and lunch the next day. Peking Wok is my new lunchtime go-to when I'm in Franklinton for training. I'd read the other Yelp reviews and was curious to try it. It's in the strip mall at Broad and 70 west of downtown, and has found a nice little niche to operate. While the neighborhood isn't swank, the restaurant itself is spotlessly clean. The menu items are clearly displayed, and there are a few tables for dining-in and a couple chairs for to-go orders. Since the restaurant is in a corner of the building, there are plenty of windows & lots of light (if you are looking for that kind of ambiance). The woman working the register was friendly and working at lightning speed to take orders in person and on the phone, pack up carryout orders, serve in-house diners, and wipe down tables in between. They were doing a heavy-duty lunchtime service, being as they're about the only non-fast-food option in the immediate area. ANYWAY. The real question - how is the food? SO GOOD! I had the Singapore mei fun, which was nice and spicy, light on the oil and a YUGE portion. Like two meals and a snack portion. Lots of protein, too - no skimping. Price was super-reasonable ($8.25 for the large). If you're on this side of town, grab a to-go from Peking Wok & enjoy. read more

I was CRAVING Chinese food (no - not preggers thank you very much!) and turned to yelp for what was decently rated in my area. Found Peking Wok. I ordered the General Tso's chicken with fried rice, crab rangoon and two egg rolls for pick up. General Tso's - I wish I could find one that wasn't so SWEET. This one was good but sweeter than I liked. When I made the order I asked for extra spicy. There was NOTHING spicy about it lol. It was ok - but I am still in search of a spicy and much less sweet General Tso's. The serving size borders on ridiculous - you could easily feed 3 people, maybe 4 and that does not include the fried rice that accompanied it. It also came with broccoli that was cooked perfectly, crisp not mushy and limp. Fried rice (accompanied the General Tso's) - Standard Chinese-American fare and was still hot when I arrived home. Tasted good to me. The portion on this was also larger than I expected. Honestly I was expecting a serving of rice underneath the General Tso's but whatever. Crab Rangoon - Tasted good, would have liked for it to be crispier, it was a little softer than I like, but a solid choice none the less. Egg Rolls (Pork) - Crispy and delicious! All in all this was a decent meal and I have enough left overs to last me probably until mid week (Wednesday). This is a great little Chinese takeout. I frequent this place at lunch often, and I have never eaten anything that was not fresh or tasted bad. They have very quick service even at lunch rush, though I highly recommend ordering ahead of you plan to eat to go. They always have everything packaged securely and ready for you.
