I really liked the pork fried rice. Bean sprouts, charred pieces of onion and pork with that flavor that only comes from a seasoned wok and high heat. I also appreciate that there's seating. Hunan King was honestly a letdown. The food looked nothing like the photos online, which already set the tone. The rice was under-seasoned and somehow still undercooked, so it had almost no flavor and a weird texture. Most of the rest of the food was just mushy like it had been overcooked or sitting out too long. Overall it didn't taste good and definitely didn't match the expectations from the pictures. This is not the restaurant I thought it was. Maybe there's another farther down the road? Anyway, by appearances, it is nothing special. In a slightly rundown strip mall, small inside, bathrooms off-limits, a few tables to the sides. Looks like they mostly do carryout. And I dined on amazing food. I got Mongolian beef and crab Rangoon. I over ordered. Portions were huge. There were twice as many crab Rangoons as some places, and they actually looked freshly made. And tasted pretty good. And the Mongolian beef was unusual. One of my favorite dishes, usually just beef and onions and green onions. This one had plenty of beef, tender and perfectly cooked and seasoned. In a thin brown sauce, that was not overly salty, and was actually moderately spicy, which is a little unusual for Mongolian. And, tons of vegetables. Besides the normal onions, there were carrots, mushrooms, sprouts, baby corn, and more. Huge portion of good food. I also got fried rice, which was unusually bright, maybe with turmeric? Also had lots of vegetables in it. All in all it was passable, not amazing, but different and well done. Service was good though minimal. Order at counter and they bring it out. Drink are cans or bottles. The only negative I can find is that they had very flimsy plasticware. Hard to pick up some of the items. And some, like my wife, would not be impressed by the atmosphere, but to me the food matters more than appearances. Get some to go and eat it at home with your sturdy silverware. read more

I can't tell you nothing nice about the customer service, because upon entering a restaurant, I could see the young lady having a resting b**** face, and it appeared that she really didn't want to work that day. First time trying food from here. Ordered takeout. The inside was clean and the staff (guy taking order) was very friendly. I ordered lunch special sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and a vegetable egg roll (extra .80), regular order of vegetable egg foo young (they have the yellow gravy), and crab rangoon. The crab rangoon was delicious! One of the best I've had in awhile. The sweet and sour chicken was good but the fried rice that came with it was undercooked (rice was hard). It had great flavor though. The egg roll and egg foo young was ok. I'm teeter tottering between a high 3 or low 4 rating. I'm willing to try them again if/when I may be in the area. Had the Szechuan chicken, shrimp fried rice, and mixed vegetables. All were very good. Only comment is that the Szechuan could have been a little bit spicier, although all were flavorful, perfectly cooked and delicious. No frills, nothing on atmosphere; the focus is where it belongs - on the food. After having not been able to find something as simple as Wonton Egg Drop Soup around Columbus, I found they sure do offer it here, and I was delighted to have a whole quart of it. Full of wontons, not too salty, and wonderfully plentiful of egg. Giving this place five stars but if I could I would actually give it six. I had the beef broccoli combination and wonton soup. The reason for the six stars is because I think this place is a great value For the price. The beef broccoli was fresh and they use good quality ingredients. It was tasty and the gravy gave the beef perfect flavor. The broccoli was nice and crispy and it tasted like fresh broccoli from the grocery store. It came with fried rice and An eggroll surprisingly under $8. The wonton soup was also very good. I ordered a lot of food and it came out to $12 total. I lived in China and I've eaten at pretty much every Chinese restaurant in the Columbus area. I'm convinced that this restaurant had to really struggle to survive Covid. They are not in the greatest location... In fact as good as their food is, they should move! They should also take the exes off the floor for standing in line for takeout, continue to provide takeout, but offer plates and bowls and all the things that make a great Chinese restaurant, which this place is. Not to mention, that the prices are actually too cheap! Their lunch menu is extremely cheap. Period. I don't want them to raise their prices, but they've got most of the tables pushed up against the wall still along with the chairs, because their business has become based on takeout. We have been searching for a Chinese restaurant close to our area. I did a yelp search and came up with the Hunan King. The wife and I tried it for the first time tonight. We ordered Crab Rangoon, chicken lo mien and a very wonderful Orange Shrimp. The Shrimp was fantastic. Just the right amount of spice and you can taste the orange to counterbalance it. This is my second visit to the Hunan King and I have so far been impressed with their pricing and quality of food. I tend to get bored eating at the same place all the time so I like to try new places. Sesame chicken was delicious egg roll was okay. Definitely going to try something different next time.
