New China Express - The second meal they gave us free of charge - Chinese Near Me - Westerville, Ohio

Stopped by for a quick lunch plate. Kung pao chicken with white rice lunch plate. Great dish with plenty of chicken, nice spicy touch of gravy. Went well with the rice. Only downside, probably too many sliced carrots. Would have liked sliced celery for a little crunch. Was $8.50 for the lunch plate. Plenty of food. Will definitely stop in again. read more

I really enjoyed my takeout from this restaurant, although I SWEAR it's called "Sushi Express" now. I honestly only walked in bc I thought they had sushi... they don't, lol. I decided to try their food, which is Chinese/ American Asian style. I really enjoyed the wonton soup which was full of vegetables, and the wontons had meat in them. The egg roll was crispy and delicious and the pork steamed dumplings were huge and filling! I will be back for more, just know, there is no sushi here, despite the name. read more

Amazing food, every items you order it is great taste and nice flavoring taste . I recommend this place

Best Chinese carry out I've had in Columbus. No frills, just great flavor. Staff is always kind and service is quick. Portions are absolutely huge- maybe 3 meals out of one order. It's quick and relatively cheap and worth it. read more

Every time we visit this place, the food is absolutely delicious! They have such a wide variety of dishes to choose from. While you wait for your food, you can enjoy the tv. The staff is super friendly and always ready to help. The restaurant has a casual vibe, and the prices for food and drinks are very reasonable, which makes it easy to come back again and again! read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for a dozen years or more and have never been disappointed. Generous portions (always leftovers for the next day's lunch), fresh food, great variety, fast service, and tasty. Can't say enough good about it. read more

The food was delicious and the service was great. Very nice ambient atmosphere and serving sizes were ample. Very pleased.

I have loved New China, since I went going there since 2014, it is amazing, fast Chinese food!! They have a good deal for college students! My favorite dish is the sesame shrimp with fried rice or lo mein, with an egg roll on the side of course!! It is cheap and the portion size is incredible!! I love their new, clean location they built a few years ago!! Keep up the amazing food, y'all!! read more

Decided stop in for a bite to eat. Got the lunch special. Chicken fried rice, an egg roll and a drink for $5.99. Fried rice portions are huge. Plenty of chicken and fresh vegetables in it. The egg roll is a vegetable version that was super crunchy. Delicious!!! Service is always super fast and friendly. read more

As someone who grew up in Westerville I've been eating at New China Express for well over a decade. In all of that time I've tried a handful of dishes. Including orange chicken, sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried wontons, and wonton soup. The sweet and sour chicken here is simply unmatched. The chicken is so perfectly battered and fried to the best crispness. The sauce is sooooo thick, red, sweet, sour, everything. It's all I order now after trying other things, it's just perfection. The fried wontons are my favorite appetizer, super crispy exterior with a juicy flavorful filling. I can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for some great chinese fare. The one thing I'll say about this specific location is that it's in a bit of an odd location now that it moved after Kroger bought the strip they were in. read more

A good place in Westerville is New China Express. It's good food and lots of it. The portions are all massive. It has a few healthy choices. There's several tofu and vegetable options for a good price. I had the Tofu With Vegetables. It's about $6.35 for the regular portion. This was massive. It's crazy to think there's a bigger size. It could have had more spice but it was still good. The overall taste was pretty mild. It comes in a light sauce so it's not too hearty. The portions are so big though so it's good to share. It has many other cheap meals. They also have cheap lunch specials but unfortunately none of these include tofu. If you're in Westerville looking for good Chinese go to New China Express. It's located in the plaza with Kroger along State Street. The portions are humongous so bring someone to share. read more

Cheap Chinese food at a decent price, and super quick service. New China is extremely popular with us Otterbein students. Everyone's always talking about it. It's pretty good. Bring your student ID and get a free drink! read more

So disappointed to have to update our rating but as they say, everything's fine until it isn't. We ordered food tonight and when we got home, the broccoli in the chicken and broccoli was rancid. Not a huge deal, everyone else's meals were fine. We just called to let them know for any other orders and requested a refund or a future credit of one. That's when we were informed of the most absurd policy to ever enter existence. Apparently, they must be worried people are trying to cheat them out of something because the only option was to DRIVE THE UNEATEN FOOD BACK to the restaurant for a $7 cash refund. Seriously. We absolutely drove it back but there was no sense talking through the policy with the high school girl at the counter. We just won't be back. read more

Seen many others at my job bringing in different Asian dishes from here and decided to check it out. There were many others eating in as well as waiting for carryout orders so that is a very good sign. Environment was bright, well lit, and very clean. The sushi was not on the menu but written on a board near the cashier. I placed a carryout order for Sesame Chicken, which came with a drink for lunch deal and added a California Roll. The food was cooked up fast. Watched the cashier make my sushi which was beautiful, fresh, and very tasty. All this for near $10. They give you huge portions. I was in and out of there in less than 10 mins. I grabbed a couple of menus so I can prepare my next order from there. I do highly recommend! read more

Got food poisoning from here after eating orange chicken with fried rice, got watery diarrhea cramping and nausea for 3 days after eating here. Restaurant has multiple violations for not keeping food at proper temps and dirty food stations and utensils read more

If you order carry-out, CHECK THE RECEIPT AND BAGS, twice. Otherwise, you may find your order for a "side California roll" ended with you buying 5 full-size California rolls. Or you may get home to find your Sweet and Sour chicken has no sweet-n-sour sauce. The food is pretty good. The quality control for takeout is poor. I order takeout when I'm short on time or stressed. Driving back to correct orders is no help at all. read more

My experience here has always been a positive one. They have a nice selection of entrees plus some made to order sushi. 6 buck lunch specials make for a nice inexpensive meal. Had one meal here that wasn't quite right, they gladly remade it in minutes flat. Today I had their 16 piece spicy crab roll, and 4 crab Rangoons for about $11. Very clean dining room, bathrooms are Just ok, and they have friendly efficient service. read more

My husband and I ordered take out from this location. I got sesame chicken and rice, husband ordered sweet and sour pork and rice, and we ordered dumplings. The sesame chicken was awful. Hard little nuggets of chicken that you couldn't chew without breaking a tooth. My husband said his sweet and sour pork had an odd taste like it was old or not cooked properly and the dumplings were very chewy and had no taste. I don't expect to get 5 star cuisine at a fast food Chinese restaurant but we paid for a meal we couldn't eat. I called and left a message for the manager. She called back promptly and promised to issue a credit back to my account since we threw the food away. She even sent me a text message confirming it. I have never received the credit and now she will not respond to messages I have sent inquiring about the credit that was promised. Really a nice way to treat your customers! I can get better food at Panda Express. I will never eat at this establishment again. read more

If you are a local then this is your joint for Chinese take-out! I've been coming for years and their dumplings are tasty. I can't say much for the variety as I have the usual order of Kung Pao, Fried Rice, Steamed Dumplings and Beef Broccoli. All of it so good that I imagine the rest to be much the same. Stop in for their lunch deal or grab dinner and save from cooking. Either way you can't go wrong! read more

You'd be hard-pressed to find a strip-mall in Westerville without a Chinese restaurant. However, this one is special. It doesn't look like much, but you can pay far more and get far less elsewhere (trust me, I have). Chinese food is pretty ubiquitous, but it is surprising how much variation there is in quality. In the interest of full-disclosure, I should say that although I've been eating Chinese food my entire life, I know next to nothing about it. I am totally unqualified to say that this place is "authentic" or any other adjective which requires knowledge. What I can say is that New China Express has food that me and my family really enjoy at great prices. The three of us will split two entrees (their Kung Pao chicken is the best I've ever had and my wife/son like the Sweet and Sour Chicken) and some steamed dumplings (which are terrific), and a few egg rolls and be out the door for less than the three of us could eat at a fast food burger place, and with leftovers to spare. I've only eaten in-store once or twice. The place is clean and modern, but hardly upscale. You order from a counter and come up when they call out your order. Nothing wrong with it, just not fancy. I've eaten food from here at least 20 times, and it never disappoints. read more

This place is super fast for takeout from the time you walk in thd door and place your order its no longer than 5 mins. They also give you huge portions enough for two. I really wanted to like this place. The restaurant is very clean, fresh looking, and inviting. Portions are large, but the food just wasn't up to par. We got vegetable lo mein, and general tso's, and fried rice. The Lo Mein was our best of the three, but still lackluster. General Tso's was very disappointing, it was very soggy, not crisp, and was semi sweet without any spice at all, the fried rice was also very bland. Other reviews appear to be pretty good, but i wont be able to give it another chance after this visit. This didn't even come close to buffet quality in my view. read more

The food here is really good, especially for it being so inexpensive. They have always been great about a service an really nice. With this said, we have had to stop ordering from this location because EVERY TIME we call their phone freaks out and we are not able to place the order - this has been going on for months and we have told them about it several times. It's very frustrating and I wish they would get their phones fixed so we can continue ordering from them. read more

For the past 6 months I've been told over and over again by a friend that New China Express has superior Orange Chicken to that of Panda Express. Except they call it Honey Chicken here. I finally took him up on the challenge and tried New China the other day. This locale is bright, clean, and fresh. The pictures hanging above the counter are your typical "Chinese Take-Out Stock Photos" but are crisp and appetizing to look at. They might even be photographs of what is actually served at New China. And the prices! New China is so dirt cheap that you would expect lesser quality food and ingredients. Instead I was treated to an overwhelming serving of Honey Chicken made with quality meat and Fried Rice so fresh it's still fluffy. So was New China's Orange (Honey) Chicken better than Panda Express. To be honest it was about the same to me. What really sold me was the fried rice. It was light, fluffy, not greasy, and with just a hint of Soy Sauce on every bite. For $5.15 you could split this meal with another person and still have leftovers. read more

Craving some Chinese food we called in our order for pick up. Upon our arrival the order was sitting there ready for us. Awesome! We ordered steamed dumplings, egg rolls, combo fried rice, garlic chicken and honey beef. The dumplings could be great with some finesse. The filling had great flavor but the wrapper was way too thick and doughy. This was the best our meal had to offer. The egg rolls were cold. The fried rice tasted like rice with soy sauce and a little vegetables and meat. The honey beef was too cloyingly sweet. The garlic chicken had zero flavor, like they forgot to season it...with anything (certainly no garlic was added). This could be the worst Chinese food we have ever tried. read more

This place is one of the hidden gems in Columbus if you're trying to be thrifty and receive quality Asian food. The amount of food that you receive and the amount that you pay is WONDERFUL!!! I was looking for something new (as I am almost every week) and stumbled across this place and chose it as a place for a lunch meeting with a friend. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It's located in a strip mall next to a Kroger but don't let that deter you, it's clean, sanitary and you can tell that the management took the time with the décor to incorporate a "modern" feel to it. All of the food is made to order and the flavors are VERY good. Definitely one of my new faves! read more

Good fast lunch stop for hot food. General Tso's....I'd rank with 2 stars.... Honey Orange Chicken....4 stars...big difference between the two in terms of "getting it right". Didnt plan on going back after having General Tso, but after reading other posts about the Honey Orange Chicken, I decided to try it again. Posts were right...good stuff...not healthy, but it has flavor. Regarding price...the General Tso is on their lunch specials board and priced at $5.59, with drink included. Honey orange chicken is $5.99, but the drink is NOT included...drink and tax put me over $8. I think they know what they have with the HOC. Speedy service...food was hot. Wouldn't hurt to spend a little more time out in the dining area to clean tables and chairs during the busy periods. read more

Started coming here since 2001. Portion size is more than enough to eat twice on one order. Dinner prices are just above 6.00 dollars. All meals are prepared right in front of you, or you can call ahead. They always say ten minutes, but living so close, my food is always ready for pickup within a couple of minutes from ordering. Best bang for your buck when it comes to authentic Chinese food. Instead of wasting your money at Panda Express across the street, stop in for a great meal and an unbeatable price. The combination shrimp fried rice is a go to of mine when I'm in the area. Along with the friend rice, I tend to venture with a chicken plate and won ton soup. The chicken is always juicy and cooked to my liking. Over the years they had made this establishment more appealing to a dinning in experience with a flat screen TV and welcoming decor. The most impressive thing about this establishment is that they pump the money back into the store making it more up to date. This is an indication of a good business owner. Kudos to you and I look forward to visiting upon my visits to Westerville. read more

Who says good food can't be found in a strip mall? New China is located in a Kroger strip mall and it's definitely some of my favorite Chinese food in Westerville. The food is so good, especially for what you pay for it. For about $5.50 you can get delicious honey chicken (my personal fav) and even have enough for lunch the next day because the portions really are THAT big. You definitely get the best bang for your buck here. This was the first place I ever ate Chinese food and also where I spent many an off campus senior lunch in high school, so I do have an ever so slight personal attachment to it, but I promise I'm not biased and it really is worth trying! If you're looking for well priced quality Chinese food then look no further than New China, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more
