a plate of dumplings and a bowl of soup
Katherine N.

I really enjoyed my takeout from this restaurant, although I SWEAR it's called "Sushi Express" now. I honestly only walked in bc I thought they had sushi... they don't, lol. I decided to try their food, which is Chinese/ American Asian style. I really enjoyed the wonton soup which was full of vegetables, and the wontons had meat in them. The egg roll was crispy and delicious and the pork steamed dumplings were huge and filling! I will be back for more, just know, there is no sushi here, despite the name.

Best Chinese carry out I've had in Columbus. No frills, just great flavor. Staff is always kind and service is quick. Portions are absolutely huge- maybe 3 meals out of one order. It's quick and relatively cheap and worth it.

Chicken fried rice

Decided stop in for a bite to eat. Got the lunch special. Chicken fried rice, an egg roll and a drink for $5.99. Fried rice portions are huge. Plenty of chicken and fresh vegetables in it. The egg roll is a vegetable version that was super crunchy. Delicious!!! Service is always super fast and friendly.

As someone who grew up in Westerville I've been eating at New China Express for well over a decade. In all of that time I've tried a handful of dishes. Including orange chicken, sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, fried wontons, and wonton soup. The sweet and sour chicken here is simply unmatched. The chicken is so perfectly battered and fried to the best crispness. The sauce is sooooo thick, red, sweet, sour, everything. It's all I order now after trying other things, it's just perfection. The fried wontons are my favorite appetizer, super crispy exterior with a juicy flavorful filling. I can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for some great chinese fare. The one thing I'll say about this specific location is that it's in a bit of an odd location now that it moved after Kroger bought the strip they were in.

Tofu Vegetables

A good place in Westerville is New China Express. It's good food and lots of it. The portions are all massive. It has a few healthy choices. There's several tofu and vegetable options for a good price. I had the Tofu With Vegetables. It's about $6.35 for the regular portion. This was massive. It's crazy to think there's a bigger size. It could have had more spice but it was still good. The overall taste was pretty mild. It comes in a light sauce so it's not too hearty. The portions are so big though so it's good to share. It has many other cheap meals. They also have cheap lunch specials but unfortunately none of these include tofu. If you're in Westerville looking for good Chinese go to New China Express. It's located in the plaza with Kroger along State Street. The portions are humongous so bring someone to share.

Hot Bean Chicken

Very tasty lunch for only $5.59 which includes a beverage. I ordered the Hot Bean Chicken. There was ample amount of lean chicken, fresh green peppers, carrots and onions along with water chestnuts in a brown sauce. All served over steam white rice. Quick and tasty meal!

Seen many others at my job bringing in different Asian dishes from here and decided to check it out. There were many others eating in as well as waiting for carryout orders so that is a very good sign. Environment was bright, well lit, and very clean. The sushi was not on the menu but written on a board near the cashier. I placed a carryout order for Sesame Chicken, which came with a drink for lunch deal and added a California Roll. The food was cooked up fast. Watched the cashier make my sushi which was beautiful, fresh, and very tasty. All this for near $10. They give you huge portions. I was in and out of there in less than 10 mins. I grabbed a couple of menus so I can prepare my next order from there. I do highly recommend!

If you order carry-out, CHECK THE RECEIPT AND BAGS, twice. Otherwise, you may find your order for a "side California roll" ended with you buying 5 full-size California rolls. Or you may get home to find your Sweet and Sour chicken has no sweet-n-sour sauce. The food is pretty good. The quality control for takeout is poor. I order takeout when I'm short on time or stressed. Driving back to correct orders is no help at all.

I was so excited to finish my Hunan chicken that I had ordered earlier. When I reheated it I came across this little creature in my food. The health department needs to be called ASAP!

Great Asian Restaurant? I'd say so!…read more Here's 5 reasons for my 5 stars... * It's Asian Fusion - There's a wide range of American-Chinese,Thai, and House Created dishes... * There's a relaxing upscale casual ambiance. * They have a full service bar * Excellent service * High quality, flavorful food. I was pleased with Mark K and my first visit. It's in a small strip mall, but It's a lot nicer than what you would normally expect to find.. Mark got: Southern Style Egg Rolls - Very Tex-Mex. Good, filling, and not too spicy. Beef Pad Thai - Decent, but not mind-blowing. Could use more scrambled eggs and bean sprouts. I got: Hot And Sour Soup - Quite good with a nice smokey flavor. General Tso's Chicken - It's as good as it gets, folks, meaning it's a rival to my favorite at China Bell in Grove City. The sauce is excellent! The chunks of white chicken meat are just lightly breaded enough to hold the sauce but not overpower the dish. I'd say it's a 95% chicken to 5% breading ratio. And they still serve it with broccoli. Outstanding! I'd go back again to do some more exploring in a heartbeat. Like I said, 5 stars.

I'll start with what was good: the Mei fun, takoyaki, and the (delicious) egg roll. What lacked for me were the soups and the sesame chicken. I can see many people loving the sesame chicken, but I like mine drenched in sauce, and this felt like a healthier version with a glazed grilled chicken taste. I am also not the biggest fan of Asian soups but I always try them in case I find one that changes my mind. People may love the soups as well.

The sizzling tofu dish was super flavorful and the tofu was so soft inside. The sauce went with the assortment of veggies well and I loved how the sauce soaked into the giant sliced mushrooms. The beef chow fun was also a great option. The noodles were chewy and the stir fried veggies and beef had a slightly smoky flavor. The stir fried vegetables were also one of my favorites. Even with just a few ingredients, it is amazing how flavorful this dish was. The dishes also came with rice and I ordered a side of chili oil for extra flavor Also, if you're a fan of steamed custard buns like me, do try them! They were warm and delicious, with a buttery and sweet filling. Sooo good and the perfect way to end the meal. Service is on the slower side since there are only 1-2 servers but it was well worth it. There were lots of seating indoors and the interior had a well worn, homey look to it.

The hot and sour soup had just enough spice for interest. I had an eggroll which was the best I've had since leaving NYC. It was crispy without being dry and the filling was well seasoned. We had 3 dishes, happy family, mandarin chicken and a roast pork dish. They were huge portions but ;had similar tastes (our fault) next time we will pick a better mix of dishes. We left stuffed and with plenty of leftovers. The restaurant is bright and clean. There are a variety of tables small to large-some round with lazy susans . White tablecloths, vases and silverwear are on every table. Our service was excellent. There is lots of parking in front. they have highchairs for kids. The ladies room was clean and large

Good service; she was busy with a couple other diners and constant carryout orders but kept up on my items and drink refills. I tried the agedashi tofu, perhaps the best version I've had. Big squares, crispy and flavorful on the outside, silky and mild (and hot!) on the inside. Served with a tangy sauce that nicely balanced the tofu. I got the gonchu beef rice pot as my entree. Several other things interested me, and my standard for a first visit is Mongolian beef so I can compare methods, but rice pots seem to be their specialty and this looked good. Tender lean beef, marinated in a slightly sweet sauce, with green beans over rice in a metal kettle with lid. Sort of like bibimbap but the kettle/bowl is not searingly hot. Very tasty. I was stuffed between the two. Oh, and a spring roll comes with the bowl, also pretty good. Fast. Flavorful. Convenient. I'd definitely come back.

We got there around 5:30 and it wasn't very busy, which was nice. We were seated right away. One thing I noticed is the lighting--it's pretty soft in the dining area, with most of the brightness focused on the food stations. It actually gives the place a relaxed vibe. Now let's get to the important part...the food. Everything was hot, fresh, and honestly just really good. First plate in and I already knew I made the right choice. Some standouts for me were the egg drop soup, General Tso's chicken, black pepper shrimp, and the pepper steak. All solid, all flavorful. I made a couple trips (no shame in that at a buffet), and they do a great job keeping everything stocked and fresh. The place was also very clean, which always matters with buffets. Service was great too--our server kept our drinks full without us having to ask, which I always appreciate. Wrapped things up with an almond cookie, which was a simple but perfect way to end the meal. At the end of the day, you're getting good quality, tasty food for under $15...that's hard to beat. Definitely a great value, and I'll for sure be back again soon.
