I was really craving Chinese food, and while there are plenty of options around here, I keep coming back to China Garden Buffet--and this visit reminded me why. We got there around 5:30 and it wasn't very busy, which was nice. We were seated right away. One thing I noticed is the lighting--it's pretty soft in the dining area, with most of the brightness focused on the food stations. It actually gives the place a relaxed vibe. Now let's get to the important part...the food. Everything was hot, fresh, and honestly just really good. First plate in and I already knew I made the right choice. Some standouts for me were the egg drop soup, General Tso's chicken, black pepper shrimp, and the pepper steak. All solid, all flavorful. I made a couple trips (no shame in that at a buffet), and they do a great job keeping everything stocked and fresh. The place was also very clean, which always matters with buffets. Service was great too--our server kept our drinks full without us having to ask, which I always appreciate. Wrapped things up with an almond cookie, which was a simple but perfect way to end the meal. At the end of the day, you're getting good quality, tasty food for under $15...that's hard to beat. Tried the China Garden Buffet because I've seen quite a few customers fill the restaurant at lunch time. First, it's buffet so my expectations were lower than usual. The lunch selection wasn't bad but it was your typical Americanized Chinese food. As you can see, I tried the coconut shrimp, chicken and shrimp in lobster sauce, string beans, fried won ton and white rice. Second plate was General Tso chicken (though they were bit size chunks), more chicken and shrimp, and some pineapple chunks. All in all, a good lunch for the $9.99 price plus $2.19 for a 20 oz size glass of Diet Pepsi. There were some California rolls available and some ice cream you could scoop out of the containers. I'm not sure why this restaurant received such low reviews, I'm not from here but happens to be in the area today, so I thought I give it a tried. I believe the total for Sunday lunch buffet is like $14 and change, tax included. I mean...to me that's really cheap, all you can eat, love their chicken wings and egg rolls. Is typical Chinese/American buffet, they have Fried Rice, Lo Main, is it Low Main or Lo Mee? I dunno, you get what I'm saying. Chicken with Broccoli, Beef Pepper steak, and much more, the food I'm giving maybe 7/10, once again, is pretty good for a quick lunch and the price, for all you can eat, but please don't sit there for 3-6 hours, eat until you full and leave, is not all you can eat and meeting space. I seen some videos on YT lately. I really like this Chinese Buffet! They have a very wide selection of food that is nice and hot. Many xtras like desserts. The service is good. The atmosphere is nice and casual.They don't overdo it on visiting your table, but they make sure your beverages are refilled. The prices are very reasonable, especially on weekdays. I was in a verbal confrontation with a man today at the establishment. Guy was talking on speakerphone at the highest volumes. After I turned and glanced at this person (I never spoke a word), he got aggressive. Threatened me with violence. The manager behind the counter did nothing to diffuse the situation. I felt racially discriminated against which is why the manager did nothing, because the rude individual was Asian. Spoke with an officer with WPD. We will never return! read more

I know this place has had food violations in the past, but it does not not now & I have never become sick after eating here. The food is consistent, and decent, if not uninspiring. You will find the main staples and apps, but I love the peanut butter chicken. What you can get for the price, is VERY good value. The decor is extremely dated on all levels & the service for refills, is definitely not he greatest. I ordered the lunch egg foo young. I have noticed that the gravy for the egg foo young here in Columbus is different than what I am used to in Cleveland. Usually the gravy is more of a thick brown roux gravy; but the gravy here in Columbus is more of a brown gel look. The egg foo young tasted pretty good...little burnt, just the gravy was too salty. The fried rice was pretty good, but I was not crazy about the egg roll and crab rangoon. I glanced at the buffet while waiting for my order-- looked pretty good--not sure about if it was good. Although the food was really good. However at the end of our stay we were very disappointed. We had a party of 11 and instead of giving us the opportunity to tip. The host forced us to tip 15% it would have been fine if they disclosed with us prior that there is a 15% tip required we would have willingly paid. This is my go to spot when I am in the neighborhood. The prices are reasonable and the buffet has plenty to offer. The service is always good, and they keep the buffet stock with all the goodies. The food wasn't appetizing but didn't taste that bad either. There's not a lot of varieties compared to other buffets. The fried chicken tasted good though-it's the best I've eaten there so far. 15 years ago this restaurant was very good. Took a friend there yesterday for lunch /afternoon buffet. Very disappointed. Neither of us could eat the egg rolls, they had an "off" flavor. Even though they were only moderately busy some things ran out. None of the foods were stove hot. Chicken wings were overcooked and brittle. Everything was generally bland tasting. Before we left be both had to run to the bathroom several times with intestinal problems. We had none before going, and haven't had any 1/2 hours after leaving. The ambiance and service was prompt and fine, but, sadly this was the poorest food we experienced in a long time. We won't be going back. read more

One of my employees recommended this place, and I am glad he did. I have been here a total of 3 times in the last 2 to 3 months. Our first experience was our best. Unfortunately, they have gone downhill each time. I had been searching for Thai Peanut Chicken for the majority of my adult life, and this place actually has it. They offer some dishes that you just can't find at other Chinese buffets. My favorite dishes are peanut chicken, fried wings, fried rice, and chicken kabobs. The food is usually hot and seems to be fresh. My son loves the sushi they have, and he even requested to return for his birthday. Peanut Chicken 1-5=5! Fried Wings 1-5=3.5. Fried Rice 1-5=3. Chicken Kabobs 1-5=3. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. My only callout would be the service. The first time we went, we did not have any issues. But our last two visits were a little discouraging. I mean, I am realistic when it comes to buffets, you usually aren't going to get 5-star service. But, based on our last two experiences, the service was significantly worse. And it was more geared towards our bill. My son is 10 years old, but the last two times, they tried to charge me for an adult. The second to last time, I went to the cashier and corrected it with no issues. But, this last time, I went to the cashier, and she corrected it again. Shortly after returning to my seat, one of the waitresses went to the cashier and spoke to her before coming to our table. She said that she would ring us up and grabbed my updated bill. As she was walking away, she was studying the bill to see what change was made by the cashier and kept looking back at us. I assume she did not believe my son was 10. But, I found it quite odd because based on my previous visits, this never happened, and we always brought our own bill to the cashier to get checked out. I have no reason to lie about my son's age, nor would I try to cheat a small business out of a few dollars. I still tipped, but this experience makes me hesitant to return. Amazing! So delicious! Great portions! Most places I've ordered from cut their veggies and meat small and give you a small portion of rice in their lunch special. But not this place! All the veggies were big and the chicken was long strips! They filled the bottom and right side with the fried rice and then gave a heaping portion of sauce, veggies and meat! The lunch special came with 1 egg roll and one crab Rangoon! They were cooked perfectly and they definitely didn't skimp on the filling! Place is clean but selection is minimal. What is out is mainly mediocre. Tolerable items were dumplings and egg roll. Ginger chicken tastes like ketchup. There weren't even traditional buffet options like teriyaki chicken or beef and broccoli. There are three short buffet tables and one is for fruit and salad. Ive been coming here for years. I'm a big fan of the food.. BUT today I was blown away with the awful attitude and behavior of one of the employees. As we were paying for our food, my friend was grabbing the receipt and the lady upfront snatched it out of his hand, smacked it on the table and yelled " no tip?!" (mind you he wasn't even done going over the bill) and tbh a tip for what? no one came to ask how everything was, or see if anything was needed? on top of that before we were even done eating she threw the bill on the table without a word and walked away. The food is pretty good for a buffet restaurant. They also serve sushi as well as hibachi style. There's a good variety of entree dishes, appetizers and desserts. Most of the servers are kind. I heard about China Garden from a friend and decided that this would be the location we would visit. Listen, you know what you're going to get when you go to a Chinese buffet. You know the stereotypes and what you are signing up for. This place's food was actually pretty solid. And the food didn't look like it was sitting out for a million years (But still didnt look super fresh). They had mostly all the classics that you would expect. The place was also pretty clean as well. And the customer service was good. They definitely delivered on the classic Chinese buffet that I knew and wanted. Ultimately this is your standard Asian buffet. Actually, I think this is a bit smaller than standard but I also used to go to that huge buffet off Hilliard Rome when I lived on that side of town. Anywho, this is exactly what I expect from a cheap Asian buffet (read: not much). The people who work here are friendly enough but you don't really interact much other than them seating you and bringing you a drink. Someone comes by fairly regularly to pick up plates my giant Mountain Dew tends to get neglected. Maybe they're telling me I don't need two huge glasses that probably amounts to a full gallon of Mountain Dew. They'd be right, I really shouldn't drink that much but I'm leaning more toward the side that they just don't notice cups as often as most people would like. The food is average. The peanut butter chicken is my favorite. The crab rangoon is surprisingly good when it's fresh. It's not very sweet which I prefer. My daughter loves the teriyaki chicken skewers. There's usually a small selection of sushi too. I haven't had anything I hate yet, but it's a matter of eyeballing what's fresh. We go here so often because it's quick, the closest Asian buffet and the price is affordable. My bill is usually $25, kids prices vary from $5-$7. I'd say this is a solid 3-3.5 star place but I'm doing 4 because almost every time I'm there, there's an angry customer berating the employees over crab legs and condescendingly asking if anyone "actually speaks English. One time it was so bad it made the server cry. Mean people are the worst. read more

We ordered takeout for Christmas and it was amazing! My boyfriend has a severe seafood allergy and we communicated that with them. We didn't have any problems with our orders! The egg drop soup was hot and delicious, and my boyfriend got teriyaki chicken skewer things that were savory and sweet. The portions were great overall, and the tiny little things of rice that come with the entrees were so cute! Luckily we had ordered fried rice to go along with it.
