For a take out spot with very reasonable pricing - this is an outstanding example of what Chinese take out should be. While it may not be the fanciest of places, Beijing delivers exactly what Chinese take out should - fast service with good food at reasonable prices. So, I didn't know what to expect based on everyone's reviews being either "I love or hate" xyz food item. In particular, the General Tsos. I will say, it tastes nothing like General Tsos as it's extremely sweet and an occasional kick of heat if you get a piece with red chili pepper on it. It's almost comparable to Walmarts General Tsos. However, it's still pretty good and you get a ton of it for $10. Their crab Rangoon is also really good and you get 8 for $5 which is a really good deal compared to the other Chinese places around Powell. Went to Beijing for lunch. First time out? Overall, about average for a well-faded-menu-photos-on-the-wall kind of americanized Chinese strip mall carryout. Hot & Sour soup had plenty of fun ingredients swimming around, but like many Asian restaurants around town it was sorely lacking on the hot and sour flavors. Adding some pepper and hot sauce resulted in an instant improvement. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was filled with napa cabbage, pea pods, water chestnuts, carrot, mushrooms and bamboo. Just the way it should be. Sauce was mild white, a little msg might have helped; the white meat chicken was pretty over-velvetized but noticeably plentiful in portion and it still had enough fight left in it to still call it "Gai." Service-wise, we're still in pandemic mode so eating inside can still be a little awkward for both customer and worker. Painfully obvious that the teenager (Son #1?) working register was less than thrilled being there on a weekend. But...teenager Looked like Mom works the FOH and Dad/Uncle works BOH. Well coordinated effort, food came to the table fast and sizzling - hand delivered by the chef himself (sure beats carry out!). It's a bit of a schlep from my house, and while my next venture up that way will never be on a summer weekend afternoon, I will likely give Beijing another try. We were craving Chinese and this was the only one open that I could find that was more of a take-out price than a nice sit down. My expectations were pretty low as it looked liked your standard low-quality take-out place. WOW, was I wrong. All the veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly with some crunch left in them. The sauces were thick and incredibly flavorful and not just a mash of single flavor. The spices really came thru. The meat was good quality and the breading on the orange chicken was perfect and not heavy. The normal portions will make at least 2.5 meals. Only two "complaints". The heat is pretty mild, so if you like heat ask them to make it medium or more. The fried rice, with the meals, while tasty was more like a yellow rice with veggies added. After two times ordering from Beijing, we found it. This is not fancy Chinese food. This is flawless Friday night carry-out. General Tso's that's spicy, saucy, and crispy. I've only eaten here once but found the food satisfying. The hot and soup was flavorful and hearty. They even included crispy noodles, always a nice touch. The sesame chicken was crispy and tasty, without too much sauce, although I do wish they had included at least a couple pieces of broccoli. Oh well. I agree with the consensus on Yelp about Beijing. It's good for quick Chinese take out, but in no way the best Chinese food in or about Columbus. Let's face it, Powell... We lack REALLY good American Chinese restaurants... Most within the area are very dismal and extremely mediocre. (Except Lin's Wok across town.. Absolutely Amazing!) Most places north of Sawmill will have you asking, "Why didn't I just grab one of those crappy TaiPei meals in the frozen food section?" Beijing is a minor exception to my thoughts above. Their Americanized chicken dishes are usually pretty good. The Lo Mien was slightly on the dry side, but again... not terribly bad. If they had put more care into ingredients and a nice oil to cook in.. it would have had me keeling over with delight like I do at Peacock west or Eastern Wok, but ... eh... it's not quite there. The lunch combos are pretty great and spot on for the $$. Should you be in the mood for some quick Chinese take out... this is your destination. On the quality of the food, I would give them 4-5 stars. This is the only Chinese place that I've been to in the Dublin/Powell area that uses good shrimp. Usually, the shrimp at local Chinese restaurants has that slightly-bleachy, farm-raised taste, even at higher-end "Asian fusian" places. But Beijing's shrimp is delicious! They also use nice vegetables, and lots of them. However, the atmosphere and service make this place appropriate for take-out only. As for "authenticity," I think it's pointless to for a white girl in Ohio to try to judge a Chinese restaurant's authenticity, so I won't try. read more

Dined in and ordered two lunch specials, General tso (crispy, great flavor, plenty sauce) and Szechuan beef (SUPER tender and very flavorful with CRISP veggies) both with hot and sour soup (perfectly seasoned). It's a bit of a hole in the wall in a strip mall but it's cheap, it's fast, and it serves up what you want - especially if you've been sick and all you want is some hot soup. The crab rangoon is a bit too greasy for me though but the fried rice is very good and I like the hot and sour soup the best. Hubs is all about the wonton soup.
