Kind of a hole in the wall, in a sketchy strip mall; wasn't sure if it was open but there is a lighted sign, so yay. Clean and comfy enough inside. A wall with those faded generic Chinese restaurant menu photos. The menu itself is big and has all the standards. They had a few signs on the counter about new dishes, so I tried one, bourbon chicken. I know, not authentic, but I'd been wanting it lately anyway. And it was right in front of me. Friendly, fast service. Fried rice was just okay. Egg roll was, meh, maybe a little better than okay, but not good enough to finish. Chicken was pretty darn good. Chunks of meat that somehow stayed crispy in a ton of sweet-savory sauce. Big portion. A little broccoli (my doctor, and even taste buds, could have had more of that.) While visiting my daughter in Columbus, she said "Chinese," so off we went to EW! (not to be confused with "eeeewwwww"). Nice place. Friendly staff. Probably family members in there. You can see into the kitchen where several people were very busy and never bumped into each other. Kudos to their choreographer. I just finished eating some great tasting Hot and Sour Soup and Vegetable Lo Mein. Yeah, I'm stuffed. The best thing about it was that it was just the leftovers from lunch so I got two big meals for my $8.70. Eastern Wok is a hole in the wall, order at the counter, sit down and wait till they bring it out to you type of place. Now the restaurant is frankly a bit run down and has no ambiance at all. They serve their soup in plastic take away containers, use Styrofoam plates and their utensils are plastic. It's no frills eating on the south end of town. I know I just lost a few of you... Oh, you're still with me? Cool. Let me finish with a rave about the Vegetable Lo Mein. It's a generous portion of noodles, broccoli, snow peas, scallions and carrot strips. Hot off the wok, flavorful with a hint of ginger too. The Hot and Sour Soup was thick and hearty with plenty of the good stuff in it. The employees here are also super nice too. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again for a quick Chinese food fix. read more

Mediocre Chinese food. The chicken and vegetables was widely over sauced and just OK. The hot and sour soup was OK. They messed up my lo mein order and just gave me plain noodles instead of chicken and vegetable lo mein so probably check your orders. The pad Thai with some of the worst I've ever had. This review is long so im putting my conclusion up here for those of you who don't have time for that, lol. This place is a hidden gem that is worth visiting again and again. Flavor of everything including pork fried rice is really good. The shrimp egg roll has big chunks of shrimp in it. If you like spicy you need to order it that way. I will be ordering take out again soon mmmmmmm. It was Sunday night and i was craving Chinese food. I didn't realize there was a third option on this side of high street and the other 2 places don't have the best reviews. Yelp said they were closed, but we drove by and they were open so I think it's important to note that for other first time customers. We ordered take out and food was ready fast so we hurried home to put these guys to the test. Crab Rangoon was made in wonton style and i prefer the racket ball (have no idea what that style is called) I like the crispy edges. I liked the filling just not crispy so I wouldn't order them again. We ordered the general tso combo plate for 7.50 and it was very good, but just like most places it wasnt spicy so you need to tell them you want spicy. I have to tell you i rarely am interested in the fried rice because it's usually not that tasty. I have to say i would order the fried rice as a meal that is how good it was so if you haven't tried it you should it had such a great flavor that i didn't put soy sauce on it!!! The pork egg roll was very good, but the shrimp egg roll was even better with actual chunks of shrimp (not salad shrimp big chunks I tell you) the flavor was very good. read more

I have actually found a Chinese restaurant in this part of the city that I could make a return, Eastern Wok in the Great Southern Shopping Center. The interior is nothing to look at. It's a typical looking strip mall Chinese restaurant with big pictures on the wall. They have the standard Chinese fare. The best option is carryout. I like Eastern Wok for its quick no frills service. They have all the basic Chinese things. The worst thing about it is the location. It can be sketchy in the neighborhood at times, so come earlier. The value is pretty good for the amount of food. There is a limited vegetarian menu. I have tried both of the tofu items. The homestyle is a little plain. The sauce was a bit not as fresh tasting, and the tofu was soggier than the crispy I prefer, but still had pretty good flavor that was absorbed from the sauce. I tried the Szechuan style this time looking to get something a little more spicy. This was a little better, and had a good amount of pepper. Both of these items had too much sauce. The soggy but still pretty good tofu was swimming in it. Also there weren't many vegetables. There were scallions and not much else. It's a pretty good value though. The small portions are about $3 and the large portions are about $6. It's hard to beat that. This is why I'll give it another chance. I still recommend this place to Rice Bowl. It was not so great but I could try it again. There's not often I'm around this part of Columbus, but when I am, I could give this place a try. read more

Five stars for being the best Chinese takeout I have ever had. I remember coming here when I was younger and every Friday night my family would order takeout from here. I still remember sitting on the chairs against the wall, hearing the Asian lady at the register start yelling out the order, and looking back behind her to see the cooks clanging their metal spoons and ladles against the metal woks. You can hear the steam, and smell the oil sometimes. The place has seating, but it's usually just better to take and go, especially now a days, because it's kind of rough around this part of town anymore. The soap operas on the TV should keep you entertained as well as the fish in the small aquarium. I have always ordered the House Lo-Mien, and refused to try anything new, because it's so damn delicious. I used to sneak some of my parent's General Tso's chicken from time to time, which never disappointed. It was always spicy with a nice outter crunch from the fried oils. With all the crappy Asian chain places, or lacking buffets popping up EVERYWHERE, I can still at least guarantee that Eastern Wok is still genuinely good Chinese food and worth a try if you ever find yourself on the southern tip of Columbus. ---P.S.-- They usually have a KILLER lunch special here. You usually get a lunch portion of food, rice, and choice of soup or an egg roll for probably under $7. FANTASTIC! read more

This is really a three and a half star rating because the place, although it has some tables to eat at, offers NO ambiance at all. Just faded pictures of available dishes and a TV. Still, out here in the desert that is downtown, German Village and southside when it comes to Chinese food, this stands out, along with, to a lesser degree, Rice bowl. A large menu is extremely well executed, from superior dumplings, to better-than-they-have-to-be soups, to superior entrees. When it should be crisp it is. The sauces are not all the same. And they have depth of flavor. Even lo mien had character. Shrimp was perfectly cooked. Chicken was juicy. Only two negative things to say: 1) hard to spot from the road and 2) sucky fortune cookies. Good serviceable Chinese take out at a great price. Standard fare done well. Reminds me of about a million Chinese takeout places in NY where I grew up. And that's rare in Columbus. You can eat there but I never do. They'll sub out tofu for meat on some dishes and certainly add it (for a dollar or two more) on any vegetable dish. The smaller portions are plenty big enough and really cheap. If you want it spicy you do have to let them know, the food is a little bland normally (they are on the south side after all). Great Chinese carry out! Obviously this is not high class dining or super authentic or anything, but it's pretty darn good take out. I love the egg drop soup. It's thick and yellow, and very, well, eggy! They also give you these little fried crackers to dip in it. My son likes the sweet and sour chicken and the lomein. I like the kung po shrimp, it's spicy, and crunchy! The fried dumplings are also good. The portions are generous, so plan on having leftovers. read more
