This was an insane meal. We showed up like 2 hours early for our reservation because we were so hungry and they were very accommodating. Excellent wine list, friendly staff. The food was our favorite in Rome!!! Truth be told I came here because Giada dines here, but now I know why. The mortadella meatballs were so unique and delicious. But we LOVED a ceviche salad we had as an appetizer that was a daily special, it had fresh jalapeños in it and pickled veggies. The fish was so fresh, I believe it was scallop ceviche. We didn't have a reservation but the waitress asked if we would be fine sitting outside, which was not bad because it was a pretty balmy evening. Great wine menu and wow, the pasta! Walked in without a reservation on a Friday night and was pleased they were able to seat us almost immediately. They did quote us a 10-15 minute wait when we arrived but offered us seats at the bar where we could order drinks while we waited but there was no need! We ordered the Mediterranean bruschetta and caprese salad to start and both were great. I tried the truffle fettucine and it was quite good--no shaved mushrooms like in pictures I've seen on Yelp but good flavor and texture of noodles nevertheless. We tried the crème brûlée, Panna Cotta, and tiramisu for desert and they were all amazing! We had a bottle of the Cabernet Sauvignon recommended by the staff with our meal and it was perfect. I really enjoyed our meal and the location is great for people watching but service was a little slow and not the most aware (one member of our party had to go up to the front and ask to pay our bill because no one ever brought it to us). This seems to be a cultural thing in Italy though so I would still consider this a 5 star experience. read more

Had high hopes of this restaurant after seeing an episode of Bobby & Giada in Italy from the Food Network. Made a reservation weeks in advance. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly and directed to a nice table. The food took a long time to arrive, but that wasn't a problem. We ordered the Arrabiatta and Cacio & Pepe pastas which were both slightly undercooked. I appreciate al dente pasta, but their pasta has a slight crunch, tolerable but not what I would expect from a restaurant in Italy. Our melon and cheese salad was good and fresh. The reason for the one-star review is because when our entrees arrived, my son's medium-rare Filet was severely overcooked(well done). When we asked for it to be remade, our waiter removed the plate and told us it will be remade. Our waiter also forgot to order my other son's steak and he apologized and said he would bring both steaks out together, which wasn't a problem, mistake happen. After about 10 minutes the two steaks were brought out to my sons. To our disappointment, when they both cut into their steaks, they were raw. Not rare, but raw in the middle. My son steak (that our waiter originally forgot to order) decided to send it back as he had lost his appetite. My other son asked our waiter if he could cook his filet up to medium rare. To my surprise, our waiter said that his filet "is" medium rare. I chimed in and said "no, it is not medium rare, it is raw, can you please cook it more?" Begrudgingly, he took the steak back to be cooked more. As I stated before, mistakes happen, but there was no apology or an effort to make anything right. When the steak was brought back out, it was still undercooked, but my son ate it anyways because he was hungry after waiting over an our for his meal. When the waiter dropped off the check, he just said that they are not charging us for the steak that was returned, no apology, nothing! I also ordered glass of wine to enjoy with my meal twice and it was never brought out. Stay clear of this place, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area that will show more appreciation for your business. read more

5 stars for my favorite meal in Rome. There. I've done the impossible. I have picked a favorite meal from what seems to be an endless selection of fantastic meals to choose from. Now, let's get to the details, shall we? Rookie move - I arrived at prime dinner time without a reservation. No problem! I was seated at a small table by the door that happened to be available. (Do not take a chance - make a reservation as I watched every other hopeful diner get turned away.) Despite a full dining room, service was attentive, but not aggressive, and the food was delivered to the table at a pace that felt just right. I started the meal with a Jerusalem artichoke and... it was incredible. Having never eaten an artichoke prepared this way, I was in awe and savored each cheese-laden bite. I couldn't decide between the veal cutlet and the ravioli, so I got both. This was a solid choice and I stand by it. Both entrees were incredibly fresh and well-prepared. For dessert, I had an espresso and a beautiful dessert that I cannot remember the name of... I blame the bliss. I don't like the forced 10% service fee that was added to my bill without notice just because I am a tourist (American). Food was mostly good, service fine, menu prices are high. If i can, I would rate Dilla as 3 1/2 stars. Dilla was one of the restaurants that was recommended by our hotel since it was only a ten minute walk away. We stopped by one evening, without reservations, and were able to get seated. The place is pretty small, with a few tables outside. We ended up ordering: Risotto with fried artichokes: nicely cooked rice, with crispy artichokes on top Cacio e pepi with shrimp and tomatoes: I like regular cacio e pepi more, but the shrimp was cooked well Sea bass: not my favorite dish as the bass was a little fishy Next time, I will just stick with the risotto and pasta dishes. Overall, Dilla is a good choice for decent food that is close to the Spanish Steps. read more

They fit us in on a Sunday at dinner time without a reservation, but I recommend getting a reservation if you can (especially since so many restaurants in Rome are closed on Sundays). The food was delicious, our server was pleasant and just the right amount of attentive. The wine list was huge, so our server recommended a red wine from Sicily, which was delicious. We had the Fried Artichoke starter, which was crisp and tasty. My husband had the lasagna and I had a cold zucchini artichoke salad with shrimp. Both were prepared perfectly and delicious. We ended the night with Tiramisu and coffee liqueur, which was a perfect dessert. The only bad thing about our visit is that we were right by the door, so anytime anyone went in or out of the restaurant the door hit my husband's chair. read more

We tried this place on the last day of our trip. We were told they're not sitting anyone inside (at 6:30pm) but I did see a couple inside. I cannot say anything about the inside as I barely got a look. We agreed to sit outside (not really enjoyable as there were bugs flying around the food and ones that sting you as well). The Caprese had the softest mozzarella I've ever had and the Tagliata di Black Angus was cooked perfectly. However, the pasta in the pasta dish (I don't remember the name) was poorly done. I love al dente pasta but this was not it and was raw in the center. That was disappointing as I would think they know'd how to do pasta. read more

This place was right around the corner from where we were staying and didn't try it till the last night in Rome because we were all leaving the next day. What a find! The food was very good, although I didn't sample enough variety since I wasn't too hungry. I had the meatballs. They only give you 3 which the server explained up front and said it's not a hearty meal. It was enough for me though. In a typical Italian restaurant though you order appetizers, then first course and second course and then dessert. The meatballs were the second course. I hated this place so much, we had to buy second-dinner after it. We came here on the recommendation of a friend, who clearly had a better experience here than we did! The place is very cute, and it's in a nice location, in an alley near the Spanish steps. That's where the pros ended. This was the ONLY place we went to in Rome that charged us a service charge -- 3 euro per person. Insulting. Second, we did not ask for bread, but it was brought (the waiter quickly dropped it and then ran off before I could protest) and then we had to pay 4 euro for it (I did not see this marked anywhere on the menu). Adding insult to injury, that bread was tooth-breakingly hard. No one working in the place could ever have tried this bread and then served it to their customers. It was coated in butter and then baked/fried. I would guess that it was days old. My entree was awful. I left hungry. I ordered a cuttlefish salad that was also supposed to be filled with fresh seasonal vegetables. I had never heard of cuttlefish, so I guess I should have thought twice on that, but a salad sounded good to me, and I didn't think i would be served something inedible! The veggies in the salad consisted only of sauteed carrots and zucchini. The cuttlefish was absolutely inedible. Unchewable. Little bits of pure, unappetizing, tasteless rubber. All I could eat was some of the veggies (covered in oil) and the arugula and gnaw on something of the crouton bread trying not to break my teeth on it. My husband liked his seafood pasta. I thought it was awful. It tasted so fishy and nasty to me. Our wine was pricey and bad. Overall, this was the most expensive, insulting meal we had during our whole trip to Europe. Favorite meal in Rome. We came twice. Once with our daughter and then we brought our son. Each time we tried different items, the standouts to me were the veal meatballs. A must! The tiramisu dessert. And the burger is very popular too. Surprising for an Italian restaurant whose pastas are also standouts in their own right. The white truffle fettuccini was amazing. We are New Yorkers with bi-coastal business, so we have been to many of the finest restaurants between LA & NYC, however when you find a quaint neighborhood gem that doesn't compete with the tourist spots that have been around forever, you cancel your other reservation and go back again. The ambiance, the waitstaff and the charm of this restaurant is exactly what you expect from Rome, however it is rare to find these days with so much going commercial for the mass tourists. Lastly i did not mention that in addition to the wines, they make great cocktails too, order a Paloma you won't be disappointed. Dilla will be my top recco for all my friends traveling to Rome and for my travel agents clients. We must leave Rome tomorrow, but i still haven't decided if i cancel my reservation for later in the week when I'm back to come a third time. We found this place randomly while visiting Rome at Christmas. The bread was delicious...almost like a crouton soaked in olive oil and herbs. I ordered the tagliatelle pasta with truffle pesto and it did not disappoint. However, my husband ordered pasta carbonara and it tasted a bit like Kraft macaroni and cheese (not in a good way). Dilla? More like Dill-icious! (Sorry, I had to) My husband and I stopped in here one afternoon in Rome to grab some lunch. We kept it simple, just two Primi pasta dishes, some sparkling water, and a couple glasses of the house wine. My husband got the fettucine ragu, which was absolute perfection. Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, rich, and hearty. The pasta was heaven, and the sauce only made it better. As for me... sage and hazelnut pesto over a tiny little twisty type of pasta that I had never seen before and cannot for the lift of me remember the name of. Equally amazing pasta, but the pesto... oh, the pesto! Now, don't get me wrong. I am a huge classicist. I love a perfectly done dish that toes the line of convention. But a delicious classic amped up with seasonally appropriate, unconventional ingredients? Be still my heart! But seriously, this was some of the best pesto I've ever had in my life, and, spoiler alert, one of the best meals I had while in Rome. Their house wine was a bit different from the usual--most restaurants give you a little carafe of whatever yummy goodness they consider to be the house specialty. Dilla, though, gives you a bottle (or glasses) of a wine done by a specific local vineyard. Different, but I liked it! The staff was helpful iin picking out the right one for our meals. Staff speaks enough English (and I muddled my way through enough Italian) that communication wasn't a problem at all. They were all very polite and helpful. Incredibly bad. I'm amazed at the positive reviews on yelp. We had reservations tonight and yet the service was extremely rushed - even by American standards. We weren't seated more than 10 minutes before the waiter asked us for our order. I pointed out that he hadn't even given us the wine list yet. When he did, I saw that the wines are incredibly overpriced as compared to other restaurants in Rome. The markup was obvious and insulting. The food was even worse - we got the meatballs, which were nearly raw and truly inedible. The pasta with Mackerel was similarly bad. The charcuterie board tasted like something I got from a cheap grocery store in the US and they forgot to serve it with bread - which they gave us in a wrapped up brown paper bad when we asked for it. To end the night, the waiter kept hovering until we finally asked for the check to leave. This place is 100% tourist trap and 0% Italian. I wouldn't have gone where it not for the yelp reviews. Stopped in for a Monday afternoon lunch based on a recommendation. We had a great table by the open door/window. This turned out perfect when it started to rain! We started with a bottle of Pinot Grigio Rose (25 euro) which was nice and dry. For a starter we had the Seabass Ceviche with pineapple and arugula. Fabulous! Don't get me wrong the food was excellent, but the service was sh*t. I understand it's a different country and they don't work for their tips, but come on... ask my girlfriend and I how the food is and leave us alone. I'm not one for abrasive service people constantly checking in on me, I actually find it quite annoying - a reason I don't dine out much in the states (also because I hate tipping), but I felt like we were a bother to them and we were taking up one of their precious outside tables. Another thing: one tiny bowl - actually cup, of arrabbiata pasta (which was incredible) was €9. In any other restaurant it would be about €5 or less! We didn't order any wine, and our same waiter treated the two Americans next to us like royalty because they ordered wine. We had to wait over 10 minutes for him to bring our check. We flagged him down twice, but yet he continued serving everyone else before us. The other wait staff (about 3-4 other people) were outside smoking cigarettes across the ally way. When we finally got him to give us our check, he gave it to us in a cup and said "check if it's right" and walked away. What kind of sh*t is that? Some of the reviews here say "not a tourist trap" but it is and they don't care about you. I would have given this place less stars, but since the pasta was so good, I have to rate it two stars more than I think it deserves. read more

I'm a flight attendant and Italian food enthusiast. I fly the Rome route 4-5 times a month so I'm always trying new places and searching for the best Roman dishes. The vibe in this restaurant is 5/5. I love the cozy atmosphere. It's kinda like tea-room meets art studio meets enoteca. I love it! We had a fabulous waiter who checked in on us, spoke excellent English, and provided great recommendations. My friend and I had an arugula salad and fried zucchini flowers with melted cheese oozing out of the fried batter (drooling now) for starters. Both were fabulous! We then ordered fettucelle- a truffle sauce pasta- and carbonara. My favorite out of the two was the fettucelle. Finding truffle sauce that is not overpowering is challenging. This was magnificent. The pasta was also cooked perfectly. The carbonara was also excellent. Although the carbonara was served with shorter thick pasta (see picture), whereas I prefer the longer thinner noodles with the pecorino, guanciale, eggy sauce. Also worth mentioning, I often judge the quality of a Roman restaurant by the customer demographic. I would say a good half of the full dining room were locals as I heard quite a bit of Italian, so not too shabby! Overall, great option! read more
