From the street, Dick's Hideaway is truly hidden away. We almost missed it. If a family member hadn't suggested my husband and I check it out, we may not have known found them. Inside, the establishment is split into two sections. The bar area is what guests see immediately. When we visited, the bar area was hopping. In stark contrast, the dining area was empty, with the exception of one other couple. We were told to sit at the large, copper, family sized table located in the middle of the dining area. Being just my husband and myself, we felt strang sitting alone at such a large table. Lighting gives the area a romantic feel. While waiting for our food, another couple was sat at the communal table. We chatted with them a bit. Menu is inspired by the Southwest. The restaurant menu is on par with steakhouses. We were not expecting such hearty portions. We ended up ordering far too much food. Food was well seasoned. Sweet potatoes were one of our favorite parts. They were an enjoyable mix of sweet and savory. Lots of dishes with warm melted cheese. Food is as comforting as it is filling. The fries with the carne asada fries were on the stale side. Being part restaurant, part bar, a full drink menu is available. We ordered a mule and a prickly pear margarita. Both were strong in flavor and potency. Happy hour menu is available daily. I'll try not to be a "Dick" (pun intended) when writing my review. Let me begin with a compliment. What a cool spot. It has a New Orleans speakeasy/prohibition vibe- dark, dim lit, and peculiar. Super cool. I was really feeling it- but that feeling didn't last long. I ordered the ribs as a appetizer and pork mole (no beans) as an entree. Unfortunately the ribs never came, but what was even more unfortunate was that my pork mole came with about 2lbs of beans on the plate. I didn't taste the mole sauce in the pork. Maybe it was on the beans? I was underwhelmed with my experience although I think the restaurant aesthetically is fantastic. read more

(Hint: Dicks Hideway is located between Luci's & Element Nail Bar on the NorthWest corner of 16th/Bethany Home. Look for the Wooden Doors!!) Owned by Richardsons, Dicks is a dim lit restaurant with the same menu as Richardsons & Rokerij. Whether it is for breakfast at 7am or late night Happy Hour at 8pm, Dicks is a GREAT spot to show your friends! Great vibe & good eats. For breakfast, order the Blueberry Pancakes with your Peppered Bacon & Eggs (Blueberry Cakes not on the menu). The Carne Adovada is choice as well. Their cocktails & wine list is the way to-go for drinks. They have a limited beer list at this location but the staff always bring out something special for me! Light another candle at the food altar. Because you've gone to Heaven. Walked past this place 4 times. Had to call and confirm where they were. There is no sign or any way of knowing a restaurant exists there. From the outside it looks like the door to a massage joint that went out of business. We finally found the "secret" door. Lol. Place is tiny and crowded and loud, with a great, dark, speakeasy kinda vibe. Brass tables and a funky, New Mexico-meets-a-1970's-alcoholic-bar vibe gives this place an inviting and unique atmosphere. The menu is eclectic. They says it's "New Mexico" cuisine, but I never had anything like this in Albuquerque. No matter, this place will blow you away. The flagship dish is the carne adovada. Never mind that the REAL spelling is "adobada" but maybe they want it that way. A HUGE hunk of the most tender pork is slow-cooked in a rich, smokey, achiote-infused, crazy-umami sauce. It reminds me of a braised short-rib dish but richer and more Mexican. It's to die for. One serving will easily feed two, so share away. The Stroganoff was the most incredible thing I think I've ever eaten. It's is NOTHING like regular beef stroganoff. First, it's more of a pasta dish, but the pasta is green-chili pasta, and it's so special that they have to have it prepared in Mexico and then flown in (not kidding). No, seriously, It gets sent from Mexico. It's this green, ultra tender, flavorful, delicate pasta, married with the juiciest tenderloin you've had. All of it is then simmered in a cream sauce that will make your tastebuds dance so much, you'll feel like Beyoncé at a twerking contest. It's epic. It blew me away such that I'm making my mouth water just thinking about it. I could go on for pages discussing all the amazing dishes. The cheeseburger is unmatched, the pork chop is an ode to tenderness and moist flavor. The steaks are hand-rubbed in camel scrotum (kidding. I made that part up). But the steaks are tender, flavorful, expertly cooked, and finished. They melt in your mouth. For dessert, I tried the flan because I always try the flan, and I gave it a 10 in my flan notes. This place would be a zinger for bringing a date. It's that good. My only qualm is they have a "communal table" which, for me, is like bathing with a stranger because I don't like people. but this place is so popular that, without a reservation, you'll have to sit there. So the place is small. But man is it worth it. A MUST try in Phoenix. read more

We like the Richardson family of restaurants and yes this menu is the same as Richardson's; that said the vibe here is like your favorite dive bar but with excellent food and no sticky floor! It's dark, cozy and the best hangout in the neighborhood. No sign outside so hone in on the address. Step inside let your eyes adjust to the dim lighting! Then, grab a cozy table and hunker down! Jemel our waitress (hardly fair to characterize her as such) was beyond amazing. Her knowledge of the food and drink impeccable. Her attention to detail and attentiveness like a well trained eagle, before my last sip of cocktail she magically appeared to ask if I wanted another. The food was hot, both with heat and flavor. Haven't had a meal that amazing in forever! Attaching a photo of the carne asada enchiladas for proof; and taking Jemel's recco of half red/half green took this dish to a solid 10. Walked in on a Wednesday for a last-minute dinner and grabbed some space in the back. There is both bar space and table space here. It's really dimly lit and small - it's got kind of a Brooklyn vibe. Overall, I wouldn't say it was a memorable dinner, but it was good. Service from the guys was great and they were really attentive. I got the carne asada enchilada and while tasty (and cheesy!), it was intensely heavy in the salt. I also wish it had some more meat; I don't think it had that much, and for a meal that was $23, I would've liked more than an ounce. My fiancé got the chicken, and that was a great dish. His came with a salad, which was really heavy on the sauce, so we left it unfinished. It was a solid 3/5 experience that could've been 4/5 with a few tweaks! read more

Very frustrating experience here just now. I ordered steak and eggs and a woman came out to inform me that the typical meat option wasn't available. She kindly offered to substitute it with a NY strip, which I thought was super generous and sounded great. I finish the meal and the bill comes, and a surcharge is included for substituting the NY strip. I kindly bring it up to our waiter that the surcharge was never mentioned when I was offered a substitute meat. He returns and tells me that the waitress did tell me about the price difference. (I had two other guests with me who corroborated that she indeed did not.) Then the manager comes out and gets involved, proceeding to tell me that the surcharge is actually still underpricing the NY strip, and it's usually $70 for it (it's actually listed on their menu as $55, so another lie). They refuse to remove the surcharge, and I'm stuck with the bill that I'm this restaurant easily could have eaten given their mistake and the misunderstanding. Instead, the manager frames it as them doing me a favor by giving me a surcharge that is still cheap compared to the NY strip. Disappointing that saving the cash was more important than doing right by the customer. read more

I didn't know what to expect when my friend recommended we come here for dinner. Luckily, it was a very pleasant surprise. Hidden behind two wooden doors you step into a small quaint dim lit spot. We had a group of 5 so we had an L table in the back, which was across from another L table with a group of 3. During dinner we would chat back and forth with the other table, which was a fun communal feel vibe. For meals we got everything from the carne asada fries, the New Mexico enchiladas, the platter, the chicken and the adovado (probs spelling that wrong) and it was all incredible. I thought that I died running the 10k, but it was breakfast at Dick's Hideaway that killed me. Our friends (nay family) recommended Dick's and so after the race, we headed over. We were seated in a wine cellar-ish area that was very chill and private. The mimosas started right away as we perused the menu. Here's also the time when I checked out the restroom. Simon W. take note! It was clean, but strange. The initial bathroom opened to a vanity area with a second doorway that had no door. This led into the water closet. There was a shower in there! I probably could have used one after the race, but I thought it was strange to have in a restaurant. Anyway, back to the main event. Our waiter was super amicable and funny. We liked him very much, even if he disagreed with me about the Red Sox. Our pal actually called his service "transcendent". He wasn't wrong. The mimosas were tasty, but a little strong for me, who doesn't drink very often at all. Their coffee, however, was quite smooth and pleasant. I and my gal pal ordered the pancake platters. Three cakes, eggs your way, and choice of meat. She chose sausage and I bacon. Everything was very tasty, and I was in pancake heaven! The bacon was a thick cut pepper bacon, which I also enjoyed very much. Our male pal ordered the Richardson platter with adovada pork. The flavor of the sauce on that meat was something that's very difficult to describe. It was buttery, spicy, and almost chocolatey, reminiscent of a mole. Mr P chose the carne asada enchiladas with over easy eggs. The meat was tender and well-seasoned. Just the smell of the meat made me salivate before I even had a bite of my own breakfast. As we were leaving, it was no surprise to me that there was a line out the door. This place had amazing service and even better food. The ambiance was awesome, reminiscent of a speakeasy. I can just imagine what it's like at night going there when the fireplaces are roaring and it smells like a meaty campfire. The food is not something everyone would enjoy/appreciate but if you love New Mexico Chile and are open minded to creativity and some variation from what would be straightforward New Mexican cuisine you will likely find this place to be mind blowingly good. Down side is that it's small so at times it can be hard to get in and the process of there is a wait is clunky (just kind of awkwardly hang out and hope room becomes available). First time at Dick's Hideaway. Went for a weekday dinner with friend. New Mexico style cuisine was the choice. I had the Chili Rellano with a pork and a duck stuffed rellano, rice, tortilla and beans. Impressed with the quaint ambience, cozy atmosphere and quality service. There are several seating areas and community table seating in some areas. The seating area near the bar was nice, a bit too dark for reading the menu. I guess that is the reason they make a flashlight feature on a cell phone. The New Mexico cuisine is the same as Richardson's down the street and the same owner. The portion size is large. The pork rellano was my favorite. Never had a duck rellano before. It was good but unremarkable. I have not eaten very many duck dishes. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience and will certainly be back. read more

Came as a tourist. Apparently everyone knows Ducks Hideaway. I took an Uber there. I walked by the entrance a few times before realizing the blacked out windows was actually an open business. Upon walking in I wasn't greeted and I didn't know where to stand. The "bar" is on one side and there are tables in another room. I expected to run into a server, but never did. Finally one of the bar tenders came around and sat me at the bar. It's a loud restaurant! I tried to chat with the bartender/server, but it was difficult to hold a conversation. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable! I tried one of their CBD cocktails which was delicious! I felt like an outcast as most everyone was drinking beer. Based on the clientele I got a huge bro vibe. I later joined in and has a beer. The food spans from texmex, southwest, to bar food. My enchiladas were a bit spicy, but good. Not the best I've had from a casual texmex restaurant, but good. I wanted an appetizer but they were a bit expensive and seemed like they were more for sharing. But it's actually good I didn't as the dinner portions are huge. It's the type of place everyone asks for leftovers to go. I found the way the food was cooked to be interesting. The kitchen is next to the bar so you can see everything. I've worked in a lot of kitchens, but this was a first. They start with cold tortillas, cold or luke warm fillings, and then top with cold sauce and cheese. Really cool dicey atmosphere but with surprisingly good food. All I can say is that this place feels super hole in the wall but with some of the best entrees in all of Phoenix. I love this spot and would recommend it for anyone looking for a lunch spot to impress coworkers. Additionally if you're more comfortable in your relationship this would be a pretty cool date spot to change things up a bit. Super low-key vibes here. One of my favorite places to get lunch since the portions are huge and price isn't bad. It definitely has a great ambience, but note that seating is very very limited. Stopped by here for breakfast the other day and had a great time. This place is a true "morning bar"! I was there around 9 am and the bar was mostly full with people enjoying breakfast and drinks. It's dark inside, but that adds to the ambiance. They had great music playing and the service was fantastic. I ordered a mimosa, which was very generous, the duck enchiladas with a side of jalapeno hashbrowns, and finally a pour of El Tesoro reposado (I was impressed they had this, few places do). Ate here a while back. Wife found it on some site that promoted best breakfast places in Phoenix. This place was rated number one. Can be a little hard to find...guess that's why is called a hideaway. Had to blink a bit after entering, as the place had very subdued lighting (in contrast to the bright Arizona sun outside. Very low-keyed and most of the clientele seemed like regulars. We ate off the brunch menu. Can't remember exactly what we had but it was combination of traditional Gringo and Mexican. Also had a good stout beer along with the meal. Freakin' awesome, it was! Should I ever find myself in Phoenix again, my first breakfast will be here...even if I have to go out of my way to get there! read more

Really cool spot we found hidden in between all the other businesses. We came in through the kitchen because someone outside told us we could walk right in, and that's exactly what we did. The ambiance of this place was really cool. It really is hidden, with no signs or anything. You go in and realize there's a restaurant inside. I would definitely come to this place for the ambiance alone. As for the food, it was ok. Wasn't really anything special. The portions are large, but the taste was sub par. I ordered the meat loaf with eggs, and it was kinda burnt. I think they were going for a good crust, but it ended up tasting burnt. My little sister ordered the steak burrito and it was definitely good and huge. I thought it was the only thing worth ordering on the menu. My wife ordered the steak and eggs and it was a huge portion as well, but she said the steak was a little too over cooked.
