Right off the bat, I am on a keto diet and usually cook with habanero peppers I am trying to find a reliable go-to for spicy food I can order that does not include starch or excessive amounts of salt. This can be difficult since Thai food is usually served over rice or noodles, and with Mexican food, I have a hard time staring at a hot pile of refried beans without digging in. The ala carte Chile Relleno that I ordered from Los Dos Molinos with spicy pork fit the bill exactly. They use eggs without flour for their relleno drench, which along with the green chile sauce on top fit my dietary needs exactly The meal was spicy enough to make me break a sweat, but still highlighted the taste of the Hatch chile, roast pork and green sauce without over use of salt It was fantastic! This a tough one. I like everything about this place, but I cant eat their food. Its Hot! Spicy hot. I cant handle it. Their website makes it clear, this is not for those expecting gringoized Mexican food. I grew up eating Mexican food in California, & Mexico. I dont recall it being so spicy. I was trying to give Los Dos Molinos a pass as it has been a long time since I have eaten here. If course prices and quality have changed over the years and that is the case with this restaurant. First off the service was fabulous and attentive. My server was super kind and patient as I was trying to order food while at a meeting. So three stars for this! The food though was just okay. From the reviews I knew the salsa was going to be hot. It was very hot, opened up all of my senses--especially the red, but also it had tons of flavor, which I enjoyed. You can tell it is homemade all of the red and green peppers popping through. Now to the food. I was hoping for a lunch special, but there was not one in sight. So, I went with their tacos salad that came with a choice of a variety of meats, most of which were also super spicy, so I went with the carnitas. The presentation of the salad was awesome. It was open faced, so not that traditional round bowl that you see. What was in the bowl left a lot to be desired, as the carnitas was very dry and a little chunky--it was not fully shredded. The green salsa helped a little bit and so did the guacamole. All of the ingredients were fresh, but together there was just no seasoning and it just did not impress. I really wanted to give them more stars, but the food was just okay. I would not look here the next time I am craving Mexican food. This was a one and done for me. read more

We dine here at least once every other week. My go-to is the enchilada dinner with a yellow corn tortilla, green chile, chicken and of course the fried egg on top. I have never been dissatisfied. Another favorite is the adovada ribs. The portions are huge and we almost always have leftovers. The adovada ribs are great the next day in a breakfast burrito with some eggs and potatoes! Service is top notch and you're never pressured to finish up so they can fill your seat with another guest. Consistency is key. The food is the food here. Every single time. Food is very subjective, so I can wax poetically about what is great here and someone else may not have the same opinion. So if you like spicy, I mean spicy from a person who loves spicy. Give them a try and you be the judge for yourself. You will not have bad service. The motif here is like you're walking into a set of the movie From Dusk to Dawn in a very clean restaurant type of way. Plenty of seating with indoor or outdoor dining. My friend took me here when I came to visit. Really cool and rustic interior with lots of artifacts on the walls. There is a lot of history to look at. Service was very good. Our waiter made good suggestions for the menu and made it a fun time. Drinks were outstanding. I would go the fresh option for the Margaritas! They were excellent. The food was fabulous. Chips and homemade salsas were unreal. Word of warning. When they say spicy, it is spicy. Their saying is you order it, you own it. The green salsa is the hot one! We were at the Phoenix Indian Nefucal Clinic and we decided to try out Los Dos Molinos (Camelback) on Taco Tuesday and made the mistake of not checking reviews before going. To say the salsa is hot would be putting it mildly (pun intended). I'm a Taos, New Mexico Indian and even I couldn't eat it. If that level of hotness floats your boat, go for it. Since it was Taco Tuesday we decided to each order a taco. My husband ordered the chicken and I ordered the carnitas. They were probably the smallest tacos we've ever had and no the menu didn't say street taco. We were going to order another one, but our server didn't come back to check on us. One of my favorite spots! I love their happy hour and you will leave full without spending too much. The happy hour tacos chicken or beef are just a few bucks and pair well with the queso or chorizo dip. I also highly recommend trying the rose margaritas. The margaritas taste great and are pretty strong so you should be good with one or two. The service is always superior and the wait staff is kind and knowledgeable about the menu. Today, I decided to have a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was just as delicious as I remembered. We came in on a Sunday afternoon around 4 pm., according to what I'd read they closed at 6 pm and we had plenty of time. But the server informed us they were closing at 5 that day. They only have a qr code for their menus. My phone doesn't usually work with those, the server tried and finally got me a paper menu. While the items offered were the same, the prices were lower than their qr menu so i had to ask my friends who could access the qr menu what the prices were. And omg those prices. Cocktails over $15, na beer $6, the food pricing was a little high as well. I love NM Mexican food with hatch chiles. Their salsas were good, too spicy for half the table. One of my friends raved about her flautas with garlic pork, but the other 5 of us were just meh. The chile relleno blah but the rice and beans were delicioso. We went back after not going here for over a year. We used to go in a couple times a week. We went on taco Tuesday and they only had street tacos. We ordered a Mexican pizza and it was inedible. First time at this location. I usually trek through downtown and south central Phoenix to visit the original Los dos (was actually there the previous weekend), however, this weekend the family wanted to try this location as it's so much closer to us. We were not disappointed. This location is central and easy to get to from most of the valley. Luckily, the food matched the original very closely. The red and green chilis were spicy and classic Los Dos (Those chili fries Christmas style with a beer = heaven). The chips and salsas were the same from what we could tell, which is great! Our staff was so attentive and friendly, an amazing experience. The western decorations and bar decor make for a nice New Mexican styled atmosphere. Adovada, machaca, and beans also matched the original. Which is awesome!! The rice was a little different (the original taking the cake), but still tasty and classic Spanish rice. Large group dining can be a challenge as we were 20 to 25 as we kicked off our Volleyball season with Players, Parents & Coaches. SO glad Los Dos Molinos has that outdoor patio area which made it easy to get us into 3 large tables with space, yet privacy and still good for interaction between us all. They made ordering really easy as players just gave us their jersey number and they matched it up so we didn't have to say which player etc... Some of my go to favorite items are the Adovada Ribs and the Los Dos Flautas. I felt like the spokesperson offering up my recommendations and a few went with my recommendations. I ordered the Ribs along with a taco salad, and we had Small bowl of the New Mexico Green Chile Stew, Taco Salad, and the Green Corn Tamale with side of Beans & Rice. I warned the players about the spicy level and they loved it. I took myself to the bar to get another prickly pear cocktail and connected with some new friends that made my experience great. Wouldn't be the first or second Mexican restaurant I would go to. I went here with my family this past weekend and it took them awhile to seat us (only 4). The waitress came off rude but was nice later on in the night. I ordered the NY Strip Steak and Enchiladas. It was okay. The steak was unevenly cooked, the enchiladas were drenched in sauce. In addition, the salsas were very spicy. They are spicier than average salsas. I would only recommend this place if you LOVE spicy spicy food. It was not for us. read more

So far, my wife and I have tried two of the three Los Dos Molinos in the Valley. One in South Phoenix and the other in Uptown'. We've both come to the same conclusion. Recently we visited the Uptown establishment on a whim and we are both lovers and aficionados of New Mexican Cuisine. As the usual in Southwestern, New Mexican and Mexican restos, we were started with the mandatory chips and salsa. I must say, they brag about it with a plomb and brag very well about it. Both their green and red salsas are extraordinarily good, flavorful, chock full of incredible ingredients that make it fantastic. To me, green salsa is it! Caveat emptor, be ready for "hot" as they warn you in their business intro - they have no mild in their vocabulary or recipes! Yet with the heat and all you still can appreciate the terrific taste - it's not just hot its tasty. Our margaritas came in handy to soothe the heat! The House Margarita, although on the sweet side, was fairly enjoyable. On the other hand, the OG Margie on the rocks is bland! Deciding to have an early dinner, I ordered the Enchilada Dinner consisting of a fantastically prep'd Carnitas, super tender and fall apart good, and what appeared to be homemade blue corn tortillas serving as a bed for everything to the extreme covered with New Mexico red chile, along with cheese and a perfectly fried egg, along with standard red beans & rice. Unfortunately for as tender and fresh the Carnitas were, they were bland and flavorless. It seemed as if the chef forgot to put in the ingredients! My wife's dish was not far behind in the lackluster and apparent shortage in many elements of seasonings in her Carnitas of slow cooked pork, covered to the extreme hilt with cheese, and also served with rice, beans and a homemade flour tortilla. It's unfortunate for those who respect, enjoy and appreciate that which is true and delectable New Mexican Cuisine. As I mentioned, they have three locations, we've tried two. Three strikes you're out! For a plain, non-descript and run of the mill meal this location is just OK, if you're looking for an excellent New Mexican Culinary delight there are a few other fine places out there in the Valley! read more

However, I'm tired of being rushed out of the restaurant- picking up plates before I'm even done eating my entire meal irritates me. Not only did the plate go but so did the knife and fork. Hadn't been here in almost ten years. Very spotty and inattentive service at the bar (as before), and the entrées were surprisingly bland!--even the carne adovada ribs with "spicy" beans. A far cry from the spicy, flavorful cooking of Victoria and Cheryl in years bygone at the South Phoenix Tom Mix House location. Only the salsas were hot and spicy like they advertise, but we were never asked if we wanted more salsa, and I'm pretty sure they still up-charge you for another small bowl. The decor hasn't changed and seems long-in-the-tooth. For the relatively high prices, it will be a few more years before returning. read more
