This is my family's go to bbq place since we live only 2 miles away. It's been around since the late '80's and hasn't changed much other than being downsized a bit. We recently placed an online order for baked potatoes and ribs all of which were pretty good but I decided to give their bbq slider a chance. Wow was I ever surprised when I opened the containers to find 2 prepared sandwiches wrapped in a napkin with a slice of cheese placed on top of each of them . The heat from the sandwiches actually melted the cheese so that the cheese stuck like glue to the sandwich wrappers. I'm thinking that the employee forgot the the cheese when making the sandwiches and just threw the cheese on it to lazily complete the order! If I could give zero stars, I would. I made a bad decision to choose this place for lunch today, and boy was it bad. First of all, the floors and walls were so dingy, like they haven't been cleaned in decades. I looked past that as I was too hungry, so I proceeded to order the three meat plate. I chose brisket, pulled pork, and their spicy cheddar sausage. For my two sides, I chose Mac and cheese and BBQ beans. Big mistake, I agreed to have them cover the meats in bbq sauce. I added a large drink to my order, and with tax, my meal was over $16. I made a brave attempt to eat the meat, and the amount of fat was overwhelming. The sides were extremely bland, and so was their sweet tea. Upon arriving back to work, i just about vomited, i was so sick to my stomach. Sorry Dickeys! You guys are crashing and burning. I have been eating at Dickeys all my life. The cluster of original locations remained dependable even as the original owners moved out of day to day. However, once the franchisers took over and scales used to weigh portions( really) things began going south. Instead of using the current up trend in demand for BBQ to take their rightful place among established Dallas bbq old guard royalty, they have let go of the reigns, taken their eye off the ball and faltered big time. The once dependably chopped beef sandwich has become a fatty undersized average sandwich on a imperfect bun. I challenge this organization to wake up and pull out of this nose dive while they still have a chance 10/6/17 update I have to give them credit for requesting feedback quickly. I called the manager and described my experience and he said 9 times out of ten I would have a good meal. When I come back ask for him he would like to meet me. While he didn't give me a compelling reason to come back, out of fairness I will go back soon and give them a chance to prove they can deliver a good BBQ meal. read more

I rarely give bad reviews, but sometimes I have to, I ordered to go, the service was bad, bad communication, no covers for the cups to go,, and when I got home the meat was cold, not warm, but really cold, no seasoning, the ribs were very dry and cold. This location is blacklisted for me. I understand the COVID situation, but that is not a reason for such bad service and food. read more

Awesome BBQ!!! Staying at a hotel across the street on business and have visited this Dickey's location every day this week so far. The BBQ chicken sandwiches are great. Nice and juicy with a great selection of toppings to choose from (fresh onions, pickles, etc.) The BBQ rib plate was the best! Fall off the bone, with a great BBQ sauce. They have extra sauce at the counter near the drinks if you need it. The loaded mashed potatoes and BBQ beans were really tasty. Friendly staff, and good food! read more

First time in 10 years to try Dickey's again. I was quickly reminded WHY I've stayed away. I ordered to go. I paid an extra $3 for a rib to be included with my entrée. It was not included with my order. BBQ beans......pork and beans with a few pieces of ham does not constitute BBQ beans, especially in TX. Smoked chicken was dry and salty, so much so it was not even enjoyable. I'll wait longer than 10 years next time!!!!! read more

The staff here is very friendly and have been here for a long time. This makes for efficiency and consistency. However, the location itself could use a bit of remodeling. It is quite old and not very welcoming. The food has been going downhill for a while now. The meat could use a little more smoke flavor, or any kind of flavor for that matter, even though you do walk out of this location smelling like smoke for the rest of the day. I remember my parents taking me to the original family-owned Dickey's over 30 years ago - and this location has that same homey feel, cheerful atmosphere and succulent barbecue. I've been to other franchise Dickey's in the area, and this is hands-down, the BEST one in north Dallas. The staff is so friendly - they look you in the eye and are happy to serve you. Napkins are on each table in bountiful supply for greasy finger foods like corn on the cob & ribs. The ribs are out of this world. Drinks have unlimited refills. The decor is so charming... vintage Coke signs and ice chests - but not cluttered. The interior is not gloomy dark, but rather well lit by ambient light... and not-too bright or harsh sun in your eyes. Plenty of parking in the spacious lot. This is good eating, folks. I've spent far more money at Sonic or other fast food and still felt hungry afterwards, and didn't get such high quality food. This is like home made barbecue - just incredible quality. Meat on the ribs falls right off the bone - so much flavor. Everything is so fresh - nothing seems like it's been sitting there all day. This location is a hidden gem - a lot of people have the mistaken impression that this location is closed due the huge "For Lease" sign on the wall facing Forest Ln - this is for office space adjoining Dickey's property. There is another Dickey's on Forest, closer to Central Expressway, but it simply isn't even half as good and the staff is not nearly as friendly. This place is definitely worth driving another few miles down the road. read more

Three stars is perfect for this place. I would pick this place over Pappa Bros BBQ. Dickey's has better sides and their meat is very moist. The thing that get me through the door is their moist meat. This is more a review of the pork tacos. I tried the new pork tacos today, pretty much a nogo. They are quite small, so they don't hold much pork. They use corn tortillas, I would MUCH prefer flour. I'm so late with this review but this location deserves love.. I only had visited this franchise once in the state of Washington. I hated it! I drove 6 mins home and the food was cold. My food was tasteless and the portion wasn't to my liking... But this establishment changed my only thought of them. The food was better and I got to serve myself sides! I'm a brutha so no offense.. I'm assuming the brutha working there was running the show and he deserves kudos. He was pleasant and carried our trays to our table. He and his waitress was very accommodating because my 5 month old was there and we figured out a solution to sit him somewhere so he could sleep at our table. The macaroni and cheese isn't what I expected.. Great! For a franchise like that, but I'm basing this off my terrible previous experience. The roll was hard but I count macros, and had to watch my carbs anyway. The marinated chicken and turkey was edible and I had my sauce on the side.. I will return. My husband and I are both longtime Dickey's fans, our favorite location is Henderson & Central Expressway; the original . Tonight we had a late meeting and on the way home, stopped in to the Forest Lane location across from Medical City. It was 8:30, and the place was empty. The gentleman behind the counter welcomed us warmly. I asked what time they close and he said 9:00 so we were fine. He served us up two fine baked potatoes stuffed with lean ( as per my request) chopped brisket, they were delicious. He proceeded to find us a nice table with a view of the tv, brought us some BBQ sauce , and made us feel right at home. When we finished and asked where should we put our trays, he assured us that he would take care of them. Our entire experience was warm and wonderful. Even though we were there at almost closing time, we never felt rushed or like we were imposing. I believe the gentleman was the manager ( after reading other reviews I see it was the famous Gerald!) as he showed pride in his place and was a perfect host. And the food was wonderful. We will definitely be back to this location, and hope this gentleman gets a well deserved raise! read more

Why was it so hard to find this location with Yelp when wanting to write a review on The BEST Dickey's in Dallas? I have personally been to most of them (and if you like Spring Creek please read my latest on how they have cut back on the qualiity of their meat! Capital BOOOO!! Gerald Carter is a prime example of someone who cares about all the above and saved my butt this week. Also, Salvador and the crew take special care in giving you options and even says "you can't get the special today with two veggies for LESS" and all WITH A FRIENDLY SMILE. So you know he loves his job! Isnt THAT Speciiiiial. The pull pork is top notch.. tender, hand pulled to order so you KNOW its fresh and JUICY and (should I say this??? a little heavy handed...) Tried using a coupon that stated "Buy one get one free meat plate". Ordered 2 meat plate with some friends to be told they will not honor the coupon because it is for a single meat plate not a 2 meat plate. The coupon did not state that clearly so we commence to argue with the manager. I wish I had left at that point as the food was pretty sorry and my experience was ruined by a manager making me feel as if I'm some kind of crook. Not cool.... One week ago today was my first visit to this location. The manager, Gerald, was outstanding. Another staff member that actually served us offered the same level of customer service . It turns out these employees have anywhere from 15 to 25 years of employment each with this particular location . How often do you see that? I don't believe this is the original Dickey's, but it is one of their originals. They have a Dill potato salad that is absolutely amazing. There are more sides offered at this location than I have seen at most Dickey's throughout the DFW Metroplex. The barbecue brisket is perfect . It's obvious that they take a lot of care in the way it is prepared and cooked. I liked it so much that I traveled back to the same location two days ago on Wednesday. Bravo to the staff, the management and obviously the ownership. Highly recommended. Oh, and the spicy bbq sauce is second to none. read more

Really dig the people and the food at Dickey's on Forest. It's on our take-out agenda once a week since we work nearby...they always have our order HOT and READY when we arrive. This Dickey's is the best! Meats are smoked right on site for the tastiest bbq around. The sides are all delicious and fresh. I love "Tanglers" which are similar to fried onion rings. At the end of the meal you can eat free Tastee-Freeze-type ice cream cones. Our whole family, young & old, loves everything about this homey old style southern bbq.
