I stopped by Urban Taco this past Saturday after picking up a few items for my daughter. I had heard about the place, but have never visited. This is a very quaint location. There's indoor eating as well as patio eating. First off they do not give free chips and salsa, but that's okay! Because the chips and salsa is so amazing that you'll gladly post for a bag to go (which, I did). The AL Pastor a la Talum(I think) was so full of flavor and pack with meat and yummy goodness. I was in Dallas for work and on a random Thursday, the city decided to shut down because of an ice storm and I'm so grateful Urban Taco was open or else I would've gone hungry! I walked over from my hotel and almost slipped 4 or 5 times because I didn't pack the proper shoes as I didn't realize you could experience four seasons in one day in Dallas. When I arrived I sat at the bar and was greeted by the super kind bartender/server. I decided to order enough, not so fattening food, that could get me through the entire day if needed. The pozole tortilla soup was filling and delicious and it warms up well. The romi salad with steak was delicious and cooked well. Although I never made it for taco Tuesday. I'm surprised I have never reviewed this place! It's one of our favorites. We come here anytime we have the chance. My husband and I usually split the tacos and sides and trio. The Avocado Crema is so delicious! It's the best I've ever tasted! They also make fresh tortillas and ALL THE TACOS are delicious. Today I have the Ceviche and Avocado tower and man was it delicious!! I also highly recommend the margaritas!! This place would normally be rated 5 stars out of 5 but today the server was not that attentive and the AC condensation melted dripping on my shoulder. Amazing food. Good, high quality ingredients used and you can tell by the taste. I had a shrimp taco, corn in crema and shared the chips and trio and couldn't finish it. The jalapeño avocado dip had the perfect amount of heat. The salsa rojo had a strong Smokey flavor. The Pepita dip had an amazing flavor. The pineapple salsa on the shrimp taco was a perfect flavor combo. I love the seasoning on the chips and the facts that they were strips instead of triangles made them ideal for dipping. So this is like so many restaurants during the pandemic. They have a QR code that u point to with your camera and a menu pops up. I love that so much. Anyways the tacos here are so good. I had both tacos and I have to say there's something special about the al pastor a la tuma. The manchego cheese outside is a little salty and the sweet from the pineapple with then creamy of the avocado and the savory of the marinated meats with a squeeze of lime just did it for me. I sure can see why it was top 10 taco in Texas. It's way different than any taco I've ever had with with cheese in the outside and the pineapple inside. Love it. I highly recommend it. read more

I've spent much more for food that wasn't this good. Really a great value for the quality of the meal. Lastly and most importantly, the food was outstanding. The chips and salsa is a surprising star. The chips are seasoned with a lime salt that is great. You also get to pick 3 of 10 different salsas. These salsas are really really good and the variety makes it even more satisfying. I visited Urban Taco on "National Margarita Day", when they had $5 margaritas all day for happy hour. The upside: the food was pretty good, and there are decent vegetarian options: you can get several different kinds of vegetarian tacos (which could probably be made vegan pretty easily), including mushroom al pastor, which is tasty (even if it doesn't taste much like the meat-based stuff). A downside: The prices are pretty high for what you're getting - around $14 for a decent taco plate. Another downside: They charge a few bucks for chips and salsa, which is annoying. An upside: You get to pick three salsas from among many; the salsas are delicious and the chips are unlimited. A HUGE downside: the margaritas were terrible! Maybe this is just because it was a special happy hour, but they were weak and pretty flavorless. It is not hard to make a passable margarita; any mediocre Tex-Mex chain worth its (rimmed) salt can do it. So it's really inexcusable that a place like this can't make a decent margarita. BE WARNED: they give out free appetizers in exchange for reviews. They don't say that the review *has* to be positive, but this should make you skeptical that some of the reviews you're reading may be influenced by this. read more

It came with 3 salsas - one was chipotle, one avocado creama and the other a spicy tomatillo. All were good. I ordered 2 pork and 1 chicken taco and my wife ordered breakfast tacos - they both came with retried black beans and green rice. The pork tacos came with crumbled cheese, onions and cilantro on corn tortillas with lime. The chicken taco came with pico, shredded cheese and guacamole. The breakfast tacos were in flour tortillas which were fried crispy and included egg and bacon. Everything was good including the service which friendly and fast. Love this place! The dos equis amber barbacoa tacos = good, the carnitas = good. BUT the al pastor is where it's at! The pork in those yummy tacos is always cooked perfect, and tastes awesome! Moist and juicy with a little pica de pina and cilantro on top. YUM! As for the sides, I've only tried the roasted corn con lime crema, and it's delicious. It's kind of a cold corn dish mixed with lime cream sauce. Not sure all the ingredients that make this dish awesome, but they do. There are still quite a few items on the menu that I want to try and see if they measure up. But if nothing else, I'll keep coming back for the al pastor tacos. I was extremely disappointed in my experience. It started out solid with the best tortilla chips I've ever had with a long list of inexpensive delicious salsas. My favorite was the line avocado crema. But then, the wait started. It took forever to get the tacos, and I disliked them enough that I left them all half eaten. This location of Urban Taco was disappointing. I found the food to be rather very bland, which is surprising considering that the other two Urban Taco locations provided food that was overly seasoned. Where is the middle ground?! I had the veggie quesadilla fritas, which is similar to the empanadas, and consists of oaxaca cheese, zucchini potato crema, corn, salsa roja. And I don't know, but I think the quesadillas actually cried (at least, if I didn't), because I didn't bother eating the whole three pieces. Bland - Quesa does these quesadillas fritas far better. And I had come for the Tacos a la Tuma, which won an award in the Texas Monthly's list. Apparently they don't make them here - it's only offered in the McKinney Ave location. So instead, I opted for the al pastor torta, since the al pastor was talked about a lot. And the al pastor torta was very bland - but this time, it was mostly because the torta consisted of too much breading and not enough pastor. The accompany french fries were limp. The yuca "fries" were perhaps baked rather than fried - and just barely ok (definitely not as tasty as the fried versions I've had elsewhere). Maybe they were focused on making "modern" Mexican being healthy - but I felt that they didn't pull it off in making it also tasty while doing so. I don't see myself returning as it was too much for food too bland. The atmosphere was nice though with the light casual cafe feel. Just sorry that the food still has ways to go in pleasing my palate. read more

I sat down he came back and asked if I was ready to order, he also informed that the prices on the hard copy of the menu is not right, the right pricing is on the website, i ordered the potato empanada and salad Both mediocre. If you're going in person, I give this place 4 stars. I highly recommend it. The food remains excellent. This review has to do with ordering for delivery. I love Urban Taco and order from them frequently; the food is great and arrives well-packaged and at good temperatures. However, they've recently changed the menus for the delivery apps and many of my favorite options are no longer available. I ordered today on the website so I could still get the things I want. I prefer to use the delivery apps because there are deals and promos and rewards that I don't get on the restaurant's website, including a fee I pay to the apps for not paying delivery fees. I had stopped ordering from this restaurant for a bit in the hope that it was just a temporary change or glitch, but none of the apps have reverted to their prior menu. My only other complaint, again for deliveries, is that I've had difficulty getting additional chips for the salsa trio. I've been told I have to pay for a 2nd bag, which I'm HAPPY to do, and WANT to do (I strongly support small, local businesses!) but there hasn't been an option for that on any of the delivery apps or Urban Taco's online ordering on their website. So I end up with salsas I can't eat because there aren't enough chips (their chips are fantastic; I don't want to eat the salsas with any other chips!). I did request in my online order on their website that they add on and charge me for a 2nd bag of chips so I'm hoping that works for my current order. I'll update, regardless. I generally order in due to time constraints and just generally preferring a quiet dinner in my home with one or two people, so I will likely order from here much less in the future given the issues with their menu options. I hope they restore and improve things soon as I've always enjoyed this restaurant's food. Think Texas street tacos meets upscale bistro style. They have a nice selection of vibrant ingredients to make their taco menu stand out. The mango Cole slaw is not bad. Their tortilla soup is not bad. The chicken in the soup was a bit tough, but I did appreciate that it does come with two very tasty corn tortillas. This restaurant is very clean. I've been to UT 20+ times and I know what is worth it to get there and what's not. I think there are better Mexican places in Dallas but if you want STRONG drinks, friendly staff and a central location then it's perfect for you! Pretty good food.....not great, but not bad. We had the Chicharron de Queso which is really good. Don't expect "traditional American style fried cheese" (see my pic). This is more similar to parmesan crisps. My Hubby & I each had a Torta. He had the Arrachera Steak torta & I had the Poblano, Potato & Zucchini torta. They were both good, but mine was surprisingly better than his. The veggie torta was seasoned much better. Also, more steak on his torta would have been welcome. The tortas are a great deal because they are served with mango jicama slaw, yucca fries, and a yummy dipping sauce. Either music is too loud or because we are one of the few Hispanics in here. We were seated and ordered only to be moved with no reason. I told the waiter I liked the soft seats. Then my drink and tacos came but no chips or avocado. Also my waiter was changed since they moved us. Noticed later it was a large group. Could've politely told us. Outstanding on all fronts: service (Christopher was great! Knew the menu even items not sown on the menu.), delivery of food was super quick, food quality was fresh and plentiful, sauces were creative yet not over powering, location was presented well at the curb, and interior finishes were new and laid out with roominess and flow. Take-out from Urban Taco has become a staple of my COVID diet. Their food always tastes fresh and delicious! There's so much on their menu to love, but I keep coming back for the pozole tortilla soup (get the small--it's a meal and a half on its own), the guacamole (the seasoning on the tortilla chips is ADDICTIVE--you won't want to share it), the mango agua fresca, and one fabulous taco after another. My favorites are the carnitas, al pastor, tinga de pollo, and mole. I recommend calling in your order or ordering online, so you don't have to wait in line. The socially distanced setup on their patio is a little awkward, and I've had people try to cut in line while I was patiently waiting at my designated spot. The employees have been great, though! I didn't think it could get any better but ever since they opened their new location just a few steps away from their previous location on Mockingbird Station, I've fallen even more in love. The food as always is prepared with such attention to detail and passion. Their salsas and their tacos are always fresh and flavorful and happy hour is always delicious thanks to their extensive and creative cocktail menu. Make sure you pull a seat up at the bar and ask Arturo to make you something special, you cannot go wrong. Also, make sure to appreciate all of the gorgeous art and decor in the space. Went here just before going to see a movie at the Angelika Theater. The meal started with the flight of salsas and a creamy guacamole. I ordered the 3 taco combo plate with cream corn and mango slaw. The tacos were really good, particularly with the creamy guacamole. The mango slaw was just okay. And I have to say that I appreciated the generous pours for the tequila shots. The only down side was that where we were seated was in line with the side door to the patio. Every time the door opened, we were hit by a gust of cold air. Will definitely eat here again. read more
