I was in Dallas for work and on a random Thursday, the city decided to shut down because of an ice storm and I'm so grateful Urban Taco was open or else I would've gone hungry! I walked over from my hotel and almost slipped 4 or 5 times because I didn't pack the proper shoes as I didn't realize you could experience four seasons in one day in Dallas. When I arrived I sat at the bar and was greeted by the super kind bartender/server. I decided to order enough, not so fattening food, that could get me through the entire day if needed. The pozole tortilla soup was filling and delicious and it warms up well. The romi salad with steak was delicious and cooked well. Although I never made it for taco Tuesday. My coworkers did and spoke highly of their offerings. On a normal day, I could definitely see the environment here being fun and a good place to meet friends for happy hour or taco Tuesday

I went red snapper ceviche app and taco plate -al pastor, steak & carnitas. The chips had a great seasoning that made it hard to stop eating them. The tacos were crafted well - every bite played out just right. The true test of rice & beans was passed with flying colors.... ordered white beans ( don't remember ever having them before. I'd definitely come back if out this way again.

Was in Dallas for the weekend and we happened to stop at this place. I thought it was your normal TEX-MEX place, but I think it's better! Everything was delicious!

I'm surprised I have never reviewed this place! It's one of our favorites. We come here anytime we have the chance. My husband and I usually split the tacos and sides and trio. The Avocado Crema is so delicious! It's the best I've ever tasted! They also make fresh tortillas and ALL THE TACOS are delicious. Today I have the Ceviche and Avocado tower and man was it delicious!! I also highly recommend the margaritas!! This place would normally be rated 5 stars out of 5 but today the server was not that attentive and the AC condensation melted dripping on my shoulder. We also had to get attended by another server for the corn it was dry but much better after they re-made it. I do highly suggest that side! It's very good especially when made well.

Amazing food. Good, high quality ingredients used and you can tell by the taste. I had a shrimp taco, corn in crema and shared the chips and trio and couldn't finish it. The jalapeño avocado dip had the perfect amount of heat. The salsa rojo had a strong Smokey flavor. The Pepita dip had an amazing flavor. The pineapple salsa on the shrimp taco was a perfect flavor combo. I love the seasoning on the chips and the facts that they were strips instead of triangles made them ideal for dipping. The only downfall was service. We had an empty glasses our entire meals and the waitress didn't even smile until leaving our tab.

So this is like so many restaurants during the pandemic. They have a QR code that u point to with your camera and a menu pops up. I love that so much. Anyways the tacos here are so good. I had both tacos and I have to say there's something special about the al pastor a la tuma. The manchego cheese outside is a little salty and the sweet from the pineapple with then creamy of the avocado and the savory of the marinated meats with a squeeze of lime just did it for me. I sure can see why it was top 10 taco in Texas. It's way different than any taco I've ever had with with cheese in the outside and the pineapple inside. Love it. I highly recommend it.

Got to enjoy their delicious tacos finally after passing them for months! As their dining room is not open yet I had to get them to go, but still received great service and food. I got the carne asada and chicken tacos, which were both a good size and made all my taste buds tingle! I definitely want to come back once they are open for in person dining and have a cocktail and of course more tacos!

I've been here twice now and the food it's ok but I get a little disappointed in the margs. They are a hit or miss for sure. Lots of different flavors but sometimes it just doesn't work for me. They also don't have any happy hours or Tuesday specials that I know of. Their food was good but just know it's not Tex-mex flavor it's had a very fresh flavor to it! Love the variety of salsas!

We LOVE this place. So authentic. Not Tex-Mex. I ordered the ceviche guacamole tower. Delicious! My wife got a chicken bowl dish. Equally good. The Yucca fries that came with it were awesome. Hers came with a side o black beans. I took a bite and ordered a side of them for myself. Our server Abraham was brilliant. I would hire him to run any restaurant anywhere. Impeccable service. Everything I talk about in my books like A Company of Owners. Spectacular customer service. There are some Dallas mainstays that this place blows away!

Now that's some good guac, chips & Tacos... I'm from California where the expectation of good authentic mexican food bar is set very high! This place isnt quite authentic, more trendy but by far the tastiest I have had in the Dallas area. Thank buuuhJesus that this isnt that horrible thing called TexMex. Screw that salty over dressed with tasteless sauces TexMex crap!! Service was exceptional and the outdoor patio was great on a nice sunny day. Even my dog enjoyed it!

The food and drinks are good, I recommend the side of corn and the veggie empanadas. It's a little cramped inside, but service is pretty quick and it's the perfect place to eat before seeing a movie at the Angelika.

Amazing food, great service, and fair prices. We tried a little of everything tonight: salsa trio, yucca fries, and taco platters- everything was incredibly flavorful and delicious. The meat was also high quality and tender- something I find a lot of places lack! Would definitely recommend coming here for lunch, brunch, or dinner!

I've been coming here for years, and in all that time I've never had a single bad experience. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are always on point. Definitely a great spot for a date, or casual meal with friends and family! Not crazy expensive and it's always a fun trip here!

Here in Texas, chips and salsa are such a commonplace experience it's off-putting to pay for them. We ordered the guacamole and the chips and salsa come with it, so that was, I guess, better...but the guacamole was $16, so there's that. The salsa was tasty as was the guacamole, but again, for the portion it's really not worth it. We had the queso flameado, which was yummy and the flour tortillas are good! We split the sirloin and were underwhelmed. For a grilled meats place the steak was very under seasoned and wasn't giving us fresh hot grilled vibes. Meh at best, as were the rice and beans. We ordered elote as a side and it was really the best thing we ate. Service was friendly and efficient! Cocktails average $16ish. Again, for the prices we expected better.

I'll admit I was very skeptical about The Chicharrónes because they're either cooked right or they're not. They got it down here. Chris our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. He took his time walking us through the menu and explaining what made El Carlos Elegante so special. The drinks were perfect. My wife loved her Desert Flor while I thoroughly enjoyed my Modelo Micheleda. Her Surf and Turf one hitter was exceptional. I have to say my Crab Cake was just ok. It tasted a little pasty and very heavy on the bread. The Pulpo was absolutely amazing. Perfect texture and the sauce it was served almost had me licking the plate. The El Machete was incredible from its presentation, to the freshness of the corn tortilla, to the quality of the meat inside. Definitely recommend this. We really liked our Okra + Shishito course, we just wished it had more okra in it. The two things I loved about the Al Pastor was of course the sauce it was served on but the fact that I got to enjoy it like a steak. It was served sliced on a bias like flank steak. Typically Al Pastor is finely chopped and served in tacos and burritos, so this was a different eating experience for me. And of course it was delicious as well. We cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu.

That visit checked every box -- the food, service, ambiance, and overall hospitality were all exceptional. What really stood out to me then was the attention to detail. I had casually mentioned that one of my cocktails wasn't quite my taste, and Harry personally reached out afterward to say they'd gladly adjust it next time. That kind of thoughtful follow-up leaves a lasting impression and is exactly the sort of hospitality that elevates a restaurant experience. Unfortunately, this recent visit felt like a completely different restaurant. We decided to do a combination of à la carte dishes along with the Experience menu after being told this version would feature entirely off-menu items, which genuinely intrigued us since Ihad also done the Experience previously. At the start of dinner, we were asked about allergies and dietary restrictions. I clearly explained that I have a mango allergy and do not eat beef. Our server then asked whether I ate other meats, and I clarified yes -- and even specifically mentioned that if the machete dish was beef, please still include it because my friend could enjoy it and I really wanted her to try it. He confirmed it would be the sirloin version, so we happily agreed not to modify that course. So imagine our surprise when one of the first dishes arrived dressed with a mango vinaigrette. Thankfully, we barely caught him quietly mentioning "mango" as he set it down. We immediately looked at each other thinking, "Didn't we just discuss the allergy?" It was disappointing, but unfortunately also representative of the overall service throughout the evening. Our server seemed disengaged, inattentive, and often not fully listening. Empty glasses sat untouched, opportunities to order additional items were missed, and at one point we were simply handed the check without even being asked if we wanted anything else. We also ordered a bottle of sparkling wine and ended up pouring it ourselves for most of the evening because our glasses were rarely refilled. I completely understand not leaving the bottle tableside if walkway space is limited, but repeatedly needing to get up ourselves to retrieve it felt out of sync with the level of service one expects from a Michelin-recommended restaurant -- especially at this price point. Then came the machete dish. Instead of the sirloin version we specifically discussed, we received the vegetarian potato version. When the server asked how it looked, I politely explained that we were disappointed because he had specifically told us it would be the sirloin preparation. At minimum, I would have expected another protein substitution given the earlier conversation about what I could eat. I'm also still unclear whether the Experience menu was truly "off-menu" as described, since several dishes -- including the halibut -- appeared familiar. Had that been communicated differently, we likely would have skipped the Experience altogether and simply curated our own meal. At the end of the night, spending over $500 while pouring our own wine, nearly being served an allergen we explicitly disclosed, and receiving dishes different from what was promised made for a deeply disappointing experience -- especially after such a phenomenal first visit. It honestly felt sad more than anything because I know how wonderful this restaurant can be. I'm not sure what changed in the last five months, but the difference was significant.
