I've been going here for YEARS! Tony and the staff are incredible and so is the food! This is one of the absolute most consistent restaurants I've ever been to. Food and service are always great! There really isn't any "atmosphere" and the area it's in isn't somewhere we're most would want to dine, but I don't go to restaurants because of the "Look". I've been to TONS of places that LOOK great but the food is average at best. If you want INCREDIBLE Tex-Mex in the DFW area, Don Pepe's is at the absolute TOP of that list. Great Mexican food,authentic and delicious,I believe there sister location is called tipicos on northwest highway,basically the same delicious food other than a few small differences.Got a simple combo plate beef crispy taco and beef enchilada rice and beans,there open till I think 3pm.This is a real hole in the wall feel from outside but if your whiling to get past that to try some kick ass Tex mex then I highly recommend it. read more

I have passed by this restaurant so many times and wondered what it was like. You see quite a few vehicles there at times, so it must be good. At the same time, it has burglar bars on the windows and a gated fence around it. I decided to stop and check it out. Upon entering, I saw several tables with customers but no hostess or servers. I waited probably a 2 or 3 minutes before a server finally came out and said to sit where ever I wanted. I took a seat. The inside looks like it might have been a Grandy's in years past. Not a lot of ambience, very plain. Chips and salsa were tasty though they are a bit stingy with both. I ordered beef enchiladas with rice and refried beans. I was surprised by the amount of time it took for a pretty basic meal but it finally arrived. The beef enchiladas was almost a mixture of beef and cheese inside the enchilada. It had a bright red enchilada sauce on top instead of a Telmex chili or the dark guajillo chili sauce. Different but it was was good but not spicy enough. Nether was the salsa. The typical refried beans and rice. I wasn't disappointed but not impressed either but it satisfied my curiosity about this place. read more

One of my favorite authentic Mexican restaurants here in Dallas! Its rare to find restaurants that make North Mexican food like guiso, so I frequent them often. I always get the guisado de puerco con chili rojo (pork stew with red sauce) served with rice and beans and tortillas of your choice. My meal is less than $10 with drink and free chips and salsa. Seating is similar to an old Wendy's with hard wood booth-style tables -The music box has a good thump Service: 4/5 -Friendly service though I wanted my remaining food to-go but I was handed the check instead so I sat there longer to finish my leftovers. The food was good so I tipped 20%. Food: 4.5/5 -I ordered the chicken quesadilla and this was a flavorbomb by itself. The chicken was well seasoned and marinated. The quesadilla was hot and fresh. No need for sour cream or guac (they're included). Awesome food! It doesn't matter what you get, you are guaranteed to be satisfied when you leave! My coworkers and I went today however, I didn't get the usual, #34-burrios de carne guisada (that's bad that I know their menu numbers). But today I ate the pollo con calabacitas (chicken dish with mexican zuccini) and it was delicious! My other coworkers got the chicken enchiladas and the fried fish-both left their plates empty! The beef enchiladas, homemade flour tortillas, and refried beans form the supreme culinary trifecta to be found at this adorable, family-owned community cornerstone. My family has remained loyal to this restaurant, despite relocations, for over 30 years. Luckily, our 32 oz's of refried beans and salsa were never confiscated during our flights back to the West Coast! Ahh- travel before the 3oz liquid rule- how quaint. Back to the good stuff. The authenticity and bold flavors of their menudo, caldo de res, guisado de res, and huevos rancheros remain unrivaled, despite the media's claim and championing of the Tex-Mex usual suspects, Herrera's/Mia's/Avila's. me and my family went for breakfast to Don pepe's for the first time since they moved from their old address, it wasn't a pleasant experience at all. my son ordered ground beef tostadas, they looked like the beef was just thrown on top of the tostadas, no beans at all. my husband ordered guiso de puerco, it was more fat of puerco. i ordered machacado con huevo, my eggs were uncooked,,,,,,, oh and to top it of, the guy that was at the register (which i think is the owner, or something like that) was talking bad about a waitress at loud. not professional at all.
