On our way back home we felt the need to eat something out rather than cooking at home. This restaurant happens to be the closest one with halal meat option according to yelp. The interior was a bit small but classically well decorated. We ordered some beef and chicken samosa , mixed grill platter ans biryani chicken. we were the only customers to be served since we came in a bit late (almost by closing time) but still the waiting time was relatively longer than normal. At that point I started to lower my expectations to be honest , but thanks to the samosa that came in the right moment to offer me a glimpse of hope. When the main dishes were served the whole first impression was turned upside down : I m not a big fan of rice but their biryani was certainly unique with that spicy and soft taste. Wowza! Pleasantly surprised by the legitness of this establishment. Service was kind but slow - they did seem slammed with takeaways and the restaurant was full, so I was fine with that. Plus being busy is a great sign! We got beef boti, shahi Paneer and the mix vegetables. Beef boti - food flavour nice kick. Would order again. Shahi was buttery, rich, punchy and had great acidity. Mix vegetables was my favourite - veggies were done to perfection and the complexity and depth of flavour was fantastic! The naan was the best I've ever had, melt in your mouth good. The food here was phenomenal, no doubt. However, they were absolutely careless about following Covid-related health guidelines. One weekend, they entertained a party of more than 10 people on a single table in their tiny seating area (this was prior to the restrictions on indoor dining) I felt distinctly uncomfortable even being in the vicinity of that crowd. Additionally, the employees (the waiters and kitchen staff) were neither masking properly nor keeping a safe distance while we as customers kept our masks on until we got our food on the table. I usual stop by here when I'm having my car detailed just down the road. It's always good but I've never taken the time to write about it, until today. I started with a chai tea that was very tasty. I then ordered a palak paneer with a side of raita and a garlic naan. The spices were perfect and a generous amount of cheese. This is probably the best garlic naan I've ever had. Very fluffy and perfectly cooked. The portions were very generous and I ended up ordering a roti to go and took half of the veggie dish home with me. I had them add a rasimalai ( yummy desserts) to the order which I look forward to a little later on. The entire bill totalled $18 which I found very reasonable for all the items I ordered. The service was terrific and I highly recommend giving this place a try. I've worked and eaten in many Indian restaurants in Vancouver and this is one of the best in this area. read more

Had our socks knocked clean off by the amazing haleem, nehari & palak gosht. The naans were so fresh & straight out of the Tandoor, we had 6 between the three of us. Update: Came back for lunch again, and ordered the mixed grill, goat karhai, and nihari, all at 'medium' spiciness. I went to this restaurant after reading all the reviews and was hoping for a great experience. If you know what Indian/Pakistani food is all about, be ready to get disappointed. Way too spicy and their Biryaanj was a joke! Not much space to sit and be ready to have all the servers bump into you while you're eating. I went there and was told that the table that was empty was reserved for a party. Was there for 1.5 hour and the party never showed up and one couple was denied that table since it was "reserved". This is probably the first restaurant where reservations are kept for 2 hours and not cancelled for no show but customers are given extremely poor service and some denied seats for a "virtual reservation". Worst, worst and worst customer service!!! Visiting from San Diego, where we don't have many Pakistani restaurants, I searched for authentic Pakistani tandoori place. Found Dewan-e-Khas which had decent yelp ratings, so decided to go there for dinner. Upon calling there for reservation, was told that walkins are welcome. Once arrived, I was told to be seated wherever I liked. Being a small place as is and with almost no other customers, I sat near a window location. Between being served the menu till placing the order, it took almost 10 minutes. Despite being the only customer there, it came as a shock as folks who arrived later were being served before me. The server (who happens to be the person taking orders too) did not even bother to comment that my food is on its way. To be fair, she was the only person working, and was managing between taking orders, helping the kitchen and serving food to the guests. Meanwhile the owner of the place (that's just a guess by judging the way he was treating the said worker there) was enjoying the meal with a guest of his own. Finally I received my food after waiting 25 minutes or so. At the same time, the place got busy all of a sudden and she was the one to take care of all the new orders. To my surprise, the owner still sat there feasting on his food while giving directions to the poor worker (apologies to call her worker, since I don't know her name). BTW, another customer there complained about the delayed order... To be fair, the food was pretty decent. It tasted good however the quantity was not enough. No complains as per the quality goes (hence 1 star). The kicker was when a couple of new customer arrived, who happened to be the owners regulars. He quickly got up to greet them and...would you believe if I told you that he came straight to me to ask if I had finished so that his new guest could be seated. Shocked as I was, I got up, paid up at counter and left. 1 star is only for the food. Customer service is poor and the owner has no idea the meaning of customer service. This place is bomb d'gitty bomb. (Excuse my expression.) I was in Vancouver for work and was really in mood for some Beef Nihari. Now... I had had Beef Nihari the night before from another Pakistani restaurant (drove to Surrey for it). So you can probably assume how much I love Nihari (ooops, Beef Nihari!). I have visited this place twice. The food here is very good. The goat karahi is out of the world. It's very difficult to cook mutton so well and both the times we went there the meat was so well cooked that it sort of just melts in your mouth ! The butter chicken was yummy and tangy - again the chicken is cooked to perfection. The seekh kabob was not as good as the entrees. So the second time we skipped the appetizers and went straight to the curries. The establishment is small and do expect to wait during busy hours. We went in just before 7 pm on a Sunday and by 715 they were asking customers to wait for upto 25 mins. read more

Ordered delivery of Chicken Biriyani and Chicken Karahi. Arrived 20 minutes late. Opened the chicken karahi box and was instantly filled with regret. If you want to pay 13.50 for four chicken rib cages floating in 2 inches of oil, be my guest. Called up the restaurant immediately and was told "that's how chicken karahi is supposed to be". No thanks, I know my Indian food as a native myself. Though I can see that ploy working on your non native customers. If you want to run a business, don't rip off your customers. Biriyani had all rib cages too and tasted bland. Not ordering from here again, plenty of other honest establishments to choose from that serve good food. read more

I had never eaten here before; this place was recommended by a coworker. I ordered online from their website. What followed was the worst food delivery experience I've ever had in my life: - 5:30pm: order placed online. Web site reported 40 minutes for delivery. - 6:30pm: I called the restaurant to ask for status. The owner told me that the wrong driver had taken my food and they were remaking it. He said it would be 15-20 minutes. - 7:10pm: still no food. I call again. This time someone else answers, and tells me my food is ready for pickup. I tell her this was a delivery order. She says the owner will call me back. - 7:15pm: owner calls me back and tells me the food is, once again, 15-20 minutes away. - 7:45pm: food still has not arrived. I call to cancel the order and am put on hold for over 5 minutes. While I'm waiting on hold the food arrives. Someone finally answers at the restaurant and I tell them I want a refund. They only seem concerned with the fact that I got my food, not the experience I had. They tell me the owner will call me. I open the food and it's lukewarm. The owner called me back half an hour later, and spoke to me in a raised voice from the start. He just kept reiterating that he uses multiple delivery services, and the wrong service picked up my food the first time, and it's not his fault. When I finally get a word in, I tell him that, even if that was the whole story, it should have taken at most double the time (80 minutes), not 3.5 times as long (140 minutes)! He refused to give me a refund, telling me it wasn't fair to him that I would get my food for free. All he would offer is to let me come to the restaurant in person the next day to eat there for free. Why he wouldn't offer to at least comp me his cost, which would effectively be the same, is beyond me. I paid with credit card when I placed the order, including tip and delivery fees, and he didn't even offer to refund that. Conclusion: I spent $80 for food that was to be delivered in 40 minutes. It took 2 hours 15 minutes to show up, and showed up lukewarm. I'm pretty sure that they screwed up after they remade my food and put it out for pickup, where it sat until I called. Then it took another 35 minutes to get it to me. The owner refused to accept any responsibility and instead focused on his loss of having lost my original meal to the wrong driver. On top of that, he spoke to me with a raised voice and made me angrier than I've ever been talking to a restaurant. As another reviewer said, this guy needs to learn Customer Service 101. The food was pretty good and I would have given it another chance if he'd been reasonable, but I'll never eat there again. read more

Extremely disappointing. We have ordered from here many times and in the past it was always good or at least OK. However, today we ordered a butter chicken and bbq chicken for takeout. Upon getting home after driving 40 minute round trip, we were surprised to find that the butter chicken had virtually no chicken in it! There were only about ten very small scraps of chicken in it. The sauce was not bad but was not good either, with too much tomato and missing whatever makes good butter chicken sauce good. read more

Dewan-E-Khass is a tasty little restaurant on Fraser at 41st. I found this place on Yelp, looking for Pakistani cuisine. We arrived and were impressed by the warm welcome & clean and modern setting. We ordered mogo to start. It was really good, fresh & hot. It was served with ketchup which is okay but I think I was expecting a chutney or flavourful dip with it. For the main we had a chicken tikka served sizzling with veggies and a new dish (to us) the aloo keema. These were served with a generous side of fresh naan. The chicken tikka was good, plenty of chicken and veggies. The aloo keema was very flavourful. It had some type of spicy pepper that I thought was a cherry tomato until I bit into it! Super hot pepper! The meal was served with a side of chutney too. Next time I would order raita if they have it, although I didn't see it on the menu. Plenty of food for two people for just over $30. It was our first visit and we will be back for another visit for sure! read more

We went there in Ramadan craving for some authentic Pakistani food after a whole day of walking & sightseeing while fasting. And we were quite pleased with their service and quality of food. We ordered the combo bbq platter, it was delicious, freshly made ofd the grill but my only concern is that the quantity was very less for a platter, it was served on a bed of sautéed onions & the serving looked like a leftover more than a platter. We had to order a second one. Also ordered nihari & chicken karahi which were made to perfection not unlike some of the other desi restaurants which use a lot of yoghurt/cream/canned tomato puree. My favorite place for Pakistani/Indian food in town. I always call in prior going in and have my table reserved. Service is pretty fast and they always serve you with a smile. They offer variety of lamb dishes which are my favorite, their Naan(bread) is amazingly soft and crisp. I would say Lamb biryani is must have not too spicy neither too bland it's perfect.
