Food is great, service is good and the hot tea hits all the right spots. The roadworks outside, not so much. The place is so lovely despite the busy road outside. Soft music, it's clean and very spacious too. The lemongrass vermicelli is flavourful, decent portion sizes and the deep fried spring rolls came in a pretty bamboo basket.

I can't say enough good things about Xin Chao. This spot is something really special...family-run, full of warmth, and serving Vietnamese food with so much heart. What makes it even more meaningful is that many of their dishes are halal, as the daughter's husband is Muslim. That extra consideration means a lot to people like me who haven't been able to try certain Vietnamese classics before. For the first time, I got to enjoy spring rolls and bun bo hue...dishes I've always heard about but never had in a halal-friendly version. The spring rolls were perfectly crisp, and the bun bo hue was rich, flavorful, and served boiling hot (they literally boil the bowl!). The grilled lemongrass beef short ribs were tender and smoky, and the coconut coffee was a surprise favorite...even though I normally don't like coconut, I loved how light and fluffy it was. You also get complimentary tea when you sit down, which is such a nice touch. It's clear this is a true labor of love, and I've been so happy to see how much support they're getting from the local community. If you're in Vancouver, this is a must-visit, especially if you're looking for halal Vietnamese food made with care and authenticity.

I've read that this restaurant serves authentic northern pho, but I've eaten here a couple times now, and I don't feel it is very "northern." Northern pho usually has a much lighter broth as compared to the sweet southern broth. This broth was definitely sweet. Perhaps they have given up on serving northern style as I see previously they had some reviews about no condiments (which northern style usually does not use), because they had all the southern style condiments (ie. hoisin sauce, sriracha sauce). The only trace of northern style I can see are the flat noodles that they use. For $20-21 for a bowl of pho, I expected something special or premium. The noodles weren't cooked that well either. The meat, however, was probably the best - tasted fresh, thinly sliced. Overall, restaurant and atmosphere are nice, good customer service, but not too sure what the "gem" is.

Ordered their pho special. It was slightly salty. My friend and I were thirsty after eating the noodles. Very clean and friendly staff. Will try the other menu items next time.

I was in the area looking for some Vietnamese food, this spot is tucked in right behind Jollibee amidst the construction. It was a small but cozy spot and I decided to try the lemongrass chicken pho since I only usually get beef pho. I was with a group and we did have to put some effort into flagging down the waitress to get our orders as well as the bill. Otherwise the food was quite good, I liked how they put the lemongrass chicken separately from the soup. The soup also tasted very light and natural which I enjoyed The portions are large and you could get 1.5-2 portions out of the meal depending on how much you eat -- though it was around $21 pre tax/tip!

It had been a minute since I last came here so decided to try it out. Came on a Sunday evening and did not need a reservation! They added extra seats and tables since I last came which is always a good thing. I ordered their veggie spring rolls because we loved it last time and it did not disappoint, yet again! I stop by here very often for their Vietnamese coffee so I decided to try their coconut coffee this time. It looked so pretty, but I wasn't the biggest fan. I couldn't taste the coconut a lot and it didn't go too well with the coffee flavour. I think I'm going to stick to their vietnamese iced coffee! I also decided to try their lemongrass grilled chicken with vermicelli and loved it! The chicken was cooked very well and the sauce they gave on the side really added to the flavour.

Tried Xin Chào for the first time with coworkers and was impressed. We waited about 10 minutes to get a table for 5 for a weekday lunch. Salad rolls were tasty and the house-made peanut sauce was thick. I had the lemongrass pork belly vermicell as a main - the meat was nicely marinated and tender. Generous portion. Average $20 for vermicelli or a bowl of pho. Inside is clean, elegant, and minimalist. The service was attentive and efficient. Lots of people having quick lunches on a work day. Very accessible from the skytrain and 99 bus line. Parking is limited in the area being so close to VGH.

A new addition to the busy corner of Cambie & Broadway ... with construction all over, it very hard for local business to survive!! Surprisingly, still entrepreneurs are keen to take this chance and GROW with the city!! Xin Chao is one of these businesses that are brave to give it a try, we came from Richmond just to try them out and I have to say it was a very pleasant surprise, operated by a family, you can see the special care they have put in to make this Vietnamese restaurant stands out! Stepping into a very soothing colour pallet with hues of forest green, natural wood tone .. and concrete grey .. indeed a very calming ambiance within this very busy neighbourhood .. great place to have lunch / dinner and escape your busy office routines! Food highlight .. *Bun Bo Hue (BBH) .. this is an all beef version of that famous spicy soup which usually comes with pork hock, pork blood etc. but I like their version, a very rich broth served pipping hot .. topped with slices of red cabbage, green onion & cilantro .. The spicy level was perfect for me as I do love them spicy! Add a dash of lime and its perfect! All the beef cuts were tender and super flavourful! *Lemongrass Beef Short Ribs ( This is an Halal item! ) .. healthy and tasty .. super tender beef short ribs on a bed of rice vermicelli .. with a side of fresh salad .. I added a spring roll which is also outstanding ( as they have shiitake mushroom for that extra umami & texture ) Kudos to Dianna and her family for their gracious & warm service .. as you can tell when your meal is prepared with care & love .. here you can for sure taste the difference!

My friend and I came here for lunch. The restaurant is very clean and has a good Vietnamese vibe. It is nice and bright inside. We ordered spring rolls (chicken and prawns inside) were really good. The spring rolls displayed in a very authentic bamboo basket. The basket looks very cute. We had chicken pho and Bun Bo Hue. Both were very good. The broth was clean and flavourful. Each of the broths had its unit flavour. The service was great. We chatted with the business owner or server there. Once the menu is set and everything is ready, they would advertise and do more social media stuff. I really hope they will do well. It is just on the opposite side of the Broadway station if you take Canada Line. There are also bus stops on west Broadway. Very convenient in terms of location. I would like to come back and try other dishes someday.

My friends and I stumbled upon this spot when walking down Cambie St towards W Broadway to try to find some food. Definitely wouldn't have seen this spot if we were driving since there is a huge construction right in front of it. Upon first impression, the place looks really clean and modern on the inside, which intrigued us to give it a try. I got the Pho Tai while my friends got the salad roll and Bun Bo Hue. I am pretty picky about my pho and this one tastes really clean and yet super flavorful. I didn't have to overload it with hoisin and sriracha. The noodles are a bit thicker than what I am used to but I didn't mind it at all, it actually has a really good bite and chewiness to it. My friend loved her salad roll as well, although I didn't give it a try. The waitress was also super attentive and came in to check on us multiple times, making sure we had water at all times. Overall, really recommend this place as a new Vietnamese spot in town!!

This restaurant is hidden by construction a block up from the Cambie Whole Foods. I ordered the Steak Pho which was $20. Each noodle soup dish regardless of protein was around $20-21. Personally, I didn't think it was worthy of the cost. It was good but did not "wow" me in any way. I think there are other Viet restaurants with similar priced pho that are tastier. I also ordered the spring rolls which were VERY good. They reminded me of the ones from Anh & Chi. I would probably return to try something other than pho but I wanted to try a classic for my first visit.

The banh mi and pork rice was so flavorful and delicious. The staff were extremely nice and even gave us complimentary egg rolls. I will definitely be back!

    Vegetarian pho
    Matt B.

Not very good veggie pho, but a nice spot, good service and good location; let's hope they improve. As of now, not worth visiting for their veggie pho. Since they just opened and offer a veggie pho, I figured I'd give them a try. I ordered their vegetarian pho ($20) and added a veggie spring roll ($4) on the side. The spring roll came out within 10 minutes and was pretty solid. The pho came out another 5-10 minutes after that. The pho was massive, with lots of veggies, medium-width rice noodles, and tofu. Unfortunately, the execution was lacklustre in most respects: the vegetables seemed like they were out of a bag of frozen veggies, but regardless, they were not cooked through and were quite tough; there were only 4 pieces of tofu, which is pretty lame; worst of all, the broth was extremely bland, so you have to add a lot of stuff to it to make it worthwhile. Overall, I can't recommend the place, so hopefully they improve. The service was exceptional and appreciative of my feedback, so I applaud them for that.

The space is much nicer, with high ceilings and lots of light - great looking bistro. I ended up trying the following: - Mussels: Very good. Classic dish, but I really like the use of cream in the broth. - Bánh Mì Cay Hải Phòng (Spicy Baguette Sticks): Good. A nice little snack, although it would be easy to recreate at home. - Lamb Chops: Very good. Cooked just right, and the pepper sauce added extra flavour. - Fried Frog Legs: Very good. This was probably the surprise dish for me. They weren't just the legs, but the entire bottom of the frog, so the pieces were huge. The garlic, butter and chili flakes gave it a extra punch. I really enjoyed this one. - Pho Bo: Good. Not the best pho I've had, but it's good enough to stand on it's own. Service was quite good. Very cheerful and quite attentive. Overall a nice meal. It's a great space, the food is solid, and service to match. What I really like is having the variety of both French and Vietnamese dishes, without either of them suffering in quality. Only downside is that is it expensive for what you get.

The menu isnt big but they do have a reasonable selection of items but mostly dinner entrees We ordered a mini version of pho bo (beef broth pho), french escargot and the spicy baguette stick. The bone broth was good and the price for the mini version is good for a light lunch. We both enjoyed the spicy baguette stick with the pork pate. A pleasant surprise. However i find the escargot a bit pricey with the quantity and the way it was prepared. Slightly too oily to my personal prefence The iced vietnamese coffee we ordered tasted similar to a regular iced coffee, missing the sweet condensed milk flavor for a vietnamese coffee

My wife and I stopped in for dinner one evening and each ordered the aforementioned noodle soup--she got a small ($11.75 plus tax) and I got a regular ($12.75 plus tax). We also got an order of salad rolls ($7.50 plus tax), which comes with 2 rolls. The rolls came quite late. They were pretty standard, coming with fried tofu, vermicelli, and lettuce. The peanut dipping sauce was on the liquidy, salty soy sauce side of things -- I wish it were creamier and less salty. 3/5 The soups were decent. The broth was peppery, with some nice, gentle spices detectable in there. I asked for a side of chili oil, which helped amplify the broth. You get a generous portion of noodles, fried tofu, and vegetables (broccoli, bok choy, carrot). Unfortunately the veggies were quite overcooked -- the broccoli was almost soggy, so were the carrots and bok choy. 3/5 All in all, middle-of-the-road veggie pho. The broth is pleasant. The veggies were overcooked, but plentiful and nicely chosen. Decent place for veggie pho.
