    Sweet and sour pineapple chicken
    Lina A.

Once in a while you eat at a place that you know you would definitely return to. This was one of those places. We were seated immediately, the service was friendly and the wait for our food was not long. It was a very family friendly environment and I even overheard a couple patrons having a friendly conversation with each other. We ordered the pineapple chicken, chicken pieces on the iron skillet and the chicken fried rice. Hands down, the chicken on the iron skillet was our favorite! I would go back just for this. It came out fresh and sizzling in the pan and had a really good flavor. I'm not eating spicy at the moment, and this was not a spicy dish but still had great flavor. It paired really well with the fried rice as well. The fried rice was simple and delicious! The pineapple chicken was sweet and crunchy in the best way.

Got the mongolian beef, kungpao chicken, and sweet and sour wings. Wings were super crispy and pipping hot. Place is halal as a MF

Sliced lamb with diced Xinjiang naan. So delicious!

Xinjiang cuisine is one of my favorite Chinese style food. I've dined in at Silkway a couple of times in the past. Due to COVID, they're currently open for take-outs only. We ordered 3 items and, man, the bill was $7x something. The prices have definitely gone up quite a bit since we were last there. My all time favorite Xinjiang dish is the braised chicken. The small order costed us $26 something. It came with a tiny portion of homemade noodles. The noodles mixed with the chicken sauce was SOOOOO good. However, the chicken didn't really have that sauce flavor. It tasted like regular Chinese style chicken. What's more, they gave us mostly bones. There wasn't much meat. Besides the mostly bones chicken, there were 3 small potatoes, 1 piece of red pepper and 1 piece of green pepper, and some onions. You'd expect them to be more generous with the price they charged. It was a huge disappointment. Only the noodles mixed with sauce was good; therefore, the dish wasn't worth $26 at all. We also got Lamb with cubed Xinjiang naan. This was $2x. The lamb and naan were amazing. Both very fragrant and flavorful. However, we didn't get much lamb in the dish. It was mostly naan. Lastly, we got the mongolian beef. It was very delicious as well. All in all, the food was overall delicious. However, what you actually in terms of quantity didn't justify for the prices they charged. Compared to other Chinese specialty restaurants, I think Silkway is quite overpriced. I mean for the chicken dish, if you added up all the actual meat you got, it probably didn't even equal to one drumstick + thigh. And they charged $26???

We were looking for a place to eat before beach v-ball and settled on Silkway Halal Cuisine. They specialize in Ningxia food and everything is halal. They're located next door to Bubble Fruity. We dropped in on a Sunday evening (around 6:30pm) to an empty restaurant. A couple other small groups trickled in but for the most part, it was dead. The only way to describe the service is condescending. The waitress wasn't impressed that we didn't speak Mandarin; commence attitude. Not a big deal but just expect that coming in. At least they bring out a full tea pot and refill it. The menu is humongous with over 15 pages of options; cold dishes, soup, seafood, fish, lamb, chicken, beef, vegetables, noodles & rice, dim sum and dessert. Tons of classic lamb dishes and their roast local goat chops looked delicious (must pre-order in advance)! Lunch menu had some real cheap specials (all under $10.00). - 2x Rice ($1.90 each) - we ordered a couple bowls to go with our meal. - Chinese lamb burger ($8.95 for 2) - these were different than the standard Chinese burgers. Buns were soft and pillowy. Reminded me of a Taiwanese bun. - Lamb skewer ($9.95 for 6) - these were dusted with paprika and cumin. Skewers were respectable. - Boiled fish in hot chili oil ($19.95) - this came with fish, bean sprouts and cilantro. The crew liked that the broth was spicy and had a good kick to it. Would have liked more fish pieces. - Sliced lamb with pickled cabbage in hot pot ($18.95) - this was actually delicious. The broth was fantastic; good depth, homey and each sip was a tantalizing mouthful of sweet and sour. Don't know how the lamb was tender but still retained its bite. You can pay by card if it's $30.00 or more (otherwise, it's cash only). Prices are on the higher side; bring a group to take advantage. 3.5 stars.

Price/quality (3/4): Generally pretty good, and it's one of the few places in Vancouver that serve Muslim Chinese food--which is more notable for the absence of pork than anything else, though the dishes from northern China do have a more distinctive taste (and include a lot more lamb, mutton, and cumin). However, some of the lamb dishes do include less tasty cuts of meat, which can affect the texture. Service (1/1): Generally pretty good. Service tends to be fast enough, even during lunchtime. Would I come here again: YES

Spicy shredded beef with fried pockets

I came here with my family being totally excited to try out this restaurant. Our reservations were for 6:15pm, we ordered at 6:30pm and our first dish (which was minced beef egg white tofu soup) did not come out until 7:20pm! We had to ask them twice to follow up with our order. That alone already left a bad taste, not to mention the soup was bland and there was maybe 5 tiny pieces of minced beef in a large serving pot. Next, came a shredded beef wrap, after scooping the beef up, there was about 2 tablespoons of oil sitting on the bottom. We also order kung pao chicken and spicy pocket beef (you put the beef into a fried "pocket" once again.... Extremely greasy and not satisfying! Even Macdonald's fries are not nearly as greasy! Will never come back! Horrible food. Poor service. Don't waste your time and money!

    Chicken Chow Mein

This is one of the few places that I've seen serve halal Chinese food (that is not Indo-Chinese), so I was eager to try it. My excitement was rewarded as I enjoyed the dishes very much. The Beef and Mushroom with Black Pepper was a favorite. The Chicken Chow Mein was good too, but I felt that there was not enough chicken pieces. The portions also felt a little small for the price. The staff were nice and the decor was tasteful. Overall, I would love to try out more of their expansive menu!

Our friends told us that this restaurant serves great lamb, chicken and beef dishes, in Halal style. We tried some dishes and liked them. The cumin lamb is my favorite. I have posted some pictures in yelp. Many dishes here are quite spicy though. The price is a little more than we expected though.

    Very clean exterior

Definitely five stars! This Halal Chinese (halal meaning cruelty free/hand slaughtered meat) is my favorite Chinese restaurant. It is very clean. The sidewalks are well-kept, the aroma is light and airy (not heavy), the bathroom is clean and the seating is ample. The staff are very friendly and if you require accommodation or have dietary needs let them know for some great suggestions. We had two dishes, soup, and tea. The total cost was about $27 US (cheap!). Ample portions and full of flavor. My experience with other Chinese Restaurants, at least in Seattle, is that the food is heavy and I question whether the oil was changed. Not the case here. The food is light, and tastes very fresh. Whereas, I tend to be a blabber mouth American trying to make jokes and push the limit, I noticed that though Canadians are very friendly, they need to be provoked to start talking. If you have questions, don't be afraid to ask. The gentlemen are super helpful. Great experience, however, please note that parking in the back is free but street parking is not free on Sundays. A lot of places in the U.S. have free parking on Sundays but I got a nice red ticket for $35 CA. You Canadians may have us beat in Chinese Restaurants but not in parking. Canada ey?

Silkway has really great spicy food. I recommend trying the green chilli rice, if you enjoy spicy food. The service was slow, even when the restaurant was not busy.

100% recommended! Delicious lamb with cumin powder!

It's perfectly seasoned and reminds me of pizza except with thinner crust and softer bread. I love how thin it is. The baklava isn't layered like the Turkish style ones but it's also good. I actually prefer this one since it's less sweet! The people there are friendly too :)

It's in an industrial park, and the place has a tiny pastry area in the bottom and an upper dining room. You order in the cafe area, and the food is sent up via number system and dumb waiter (SO cool). Service was one person and two cooks, so it's not immediate, but it's all made fresh and you can taste it. My Russian friend advised me on what to get, so we went with Khinkali and Khachapuri (sans meat). We also got what is on the menu as "jingle bread" and a beef kabob wrap. I had to get some kvass and pickles, too. I would get the dumplings, wrap, and kvass again in a second. Not that everything wasn't delicious, but my stomach is only so big and I need to try everything else on the menu. Khinkali is effectively a gigantic soup dumpling (HIGHLY recommend, but don't eat the stem!), and the meat in the beef kabob was similarly spiced. I fell in love with the lavash bread - it wasn't like anything I'd ever had. It was light, flaky, and I didn't feel overloaded with bread eating it like I do with most wraps. Kvass is slightly alcoholic, and it's technically a cereal based fermented drink, so it tastes a carby. It's a bit far for me to go with any regularity, but if I'm up around the airport, I will definitely keep it on my list of places to recommend and re-visit.
