I like their chicken shawarma plate. Food ingredient's are always fresh! It comes with veggie salad and rice! I like the sauce they put on top plus the hot sauce. It comes with flat bread. The place is clean but I always order take out. There are plenty of tables to eat in. Plenty of parking since it's located on a plaza. They are fast and got my order within 5 mins. I come from Shawerma culture and I teach higher ed about food so I know what I am talking about. I stopped ordering shawerma in Vancouver many years ago because most likely, those who cook and serve it do not have shawerma in their heritage and do not know what it should be or taste like. It has always been bastardized, westernized, changed, etc. At Uncle Sal's, I ordered the Chicken shawerma plate with fries and boom, the closest it can be to the real thing served in the streets of Damascus, Palestine or Beirut. They don't listen to the specific details of what a customer wants in a pita. They make you feel that your choice is not a good one. Only 2 of them are pleasant. Why always so serious? Makes me uncomfortable when i go to order. Their lamb roast is tasteless. Their pita sandwiches are ok. The lentil soup burns your mouth its piping hot so be careful. I have been waiting to write this review for the longest time, and I'm so glad I finally got to try Uncle Sal's. Uncle Sal's is a humble, unpretentious restaurant located at Garden City Shopping Centre. There is no indoor seating (only outdoors), and I wouldn't consider eating outside a wise choice since it's been so cold recently. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate ($14.90) - it comes with hummus, salad, and pita bread. The chicken is drizzled with generous amounts of tahini sauce and hot sauce. The hummus is rich and creamy, a perfect companion with pita bread. And salad is just salad, but the tangy dressing makes it 100 times better. The chicken shawarma plate is absolutely delicious. Actually, delicious would be an understatement -- it is a must try and if you're reading this, I think you should stop and get some chicken shawarma. Al Basha Last visit 8/1/19 Our intial visit only 2 weeks earlier, blew me away. Based on the chicken shawarma alone, would've given them a 9.6. Seriously the most flavourful takeout chicken I've ever had.  The generously stuffed wrap contained only 1 piece of gristle / fat, & fresh veggies. However, I asked for *everything*, including a 50 cent surcharge for extra toppings (tabouleh, tsatzike, & garlic spray). 2nd visit, ordered the chicken shawarma again, this time without the 50 cent extra toppings. Well, the 50 cents is definitely worth it, but this 2nd time the chicken wasn't as intense or as high grade (4 pieces of gristle this time). Had this been my only epxerience here, I would've scored them 8.7. So clearly more visits were in order in order to determine if the 1st or 2nd visit was the norm; although I've now realized the extra succulent chicken the 1st visit was probably due to our arrival just before closing (longer marinating time). By the 4th or 5th visit, it was pretty clear: the chicken shawarma or rice plates were both delicious, but falafel is where it's at: this is the best* falafel either myself or the Mrs have tried. *we've had more elevated falafel during Dine Out at Fable, but in terms of just plain old falafel; the texture, the flavour, the sear, and the consistency, Al Basha is the best we've ever had. Falafel wrap: 5 stars. Warning, not sufficiently filling as a meal for most. Either order 2 wraps, or a falafel plate, or falafel and meat (you can pair it with chicken, lamb, or beef) if you don't fancy ordering 2). Chicken Shawarma (wrap): 4.25-5 stars Al Basha plate (chicken & rice plate) 4.5 stars, Mix meat & falafel plate (chicken, beef or lamb w/ falafels) we had chicken 4.75 stars. The rice is nicely cooked on their plates, and the extra carbs are very filling. However, I prefer the veggies used in the wraps to provide crunch and texture, vs the small (but tasty) salad as part of a rice plate. The hummus is excellent, but using the wrap bread, with nothing more done to enhance them (not even toasted)... It's not as good as a toasted buttered naan bread, so flavour wise I prefer the wraps; but in terms of being full, the rice plates are the winners. We still have to try the beef and lamb, but it's hard *not* to order the best falafels in town. Overall 9.3/10, 4.75 stars. Loads of parking at the Blundell minimall, they take cc, and seriously the best overall falafel either the Mrs or myself have enjoyed. Recommended: everything so far. Paying the 50 cents extra. Waiting til the end of the day (or, presumably after lunch, like say 1:30-2:00pm) for the chicken to be extra marinated. Falafel any time of the day. Avoid: ordering just 1 falafel wrap. read more

Our Order was very disappointing, the lamb and the chicken portion was very small. Gyro wasn't a gyro and it was surprising to find out you have to pay extra for the tizziky sauce.everywhere I had a gyro the Tizziky sauce comes with it. Not sure I would comeback. read more

Got the lamb wrap 5/5. There was ALOT of lamb, much more than expected for a wrap. My brother got the chicken plate 4/5. I definitely recommend the wrap over plate. His chicken plate was about $5 more and the only difference compared to my wrap is extra rice. The meat was freshly cooked and the salad was fresh, they mixed very well in the wrap. Overall its pretty standard, but I found it unique in that you can get a mix - I got the chicken and falafel wrap - which I don't see too much off. Such friendly service. The falafel is the best I've ever had- so flavourful and crunchy, not dry at all. The lamb wrap is WAY better than any other place I've tried- fresh and juicy. I love that they put tabouli (herb salad) in all of their donairs. Doesn't just taste like every other donair you can get anywhere. Freshest, most flavourful wraps in town. I was in the area (and in desperate need of a shawarma) so I swung by and ordered the Al-Basha chicken platter against my better judgement. I heard that the restaurant was under new management, and thought things might have improved. Sadly, the food quality has actually gotten worse with time. The chicken pieces were minuscule --roughly the size of pennies-- and scattered sparingly over the meagre portion of rice (it's chicken, not gold-leaf for heaven's sake. Why even call it a shawarma platter if there's barely any chicken?!?) It turns out that the new owner is quite stingy with the portion sizes. Portion sizes in Vancouver are shrinking even as prices are skyrocketing. But you can't charge $14 a platter and barely include five spoonfuls of chicken and rice! I finished my 'food' in less than 10 minutes and I'm still hungry (and this is coming from someone with Gastroparesis --a stomach condition where your stomach gets full too quickly!) Skip Al-Basha unless you enjoy listening to the vociferous complaints of an angry, unsatiated stomach. read more

Al Basha has several locations in in Vancouver and this one in particular is tucked away in a strip mall in Richmond. It's a small and unassuming place, but don't tell a book by its cover. The wraps are delicious with the chicken being their specialty. They have recently added lamb (gyro style) to the menu which I now order fairly frequently. All the fresh toppings and sauces really make these little wraps pop. The meat is well seasoned and a decent portion as well. I can't say there are a lot of shawarma options in Richmond so this is a good bet if your craving some flavour punch in your lunch (or dinner of course). read more
