Chicken Plate - A must try!
    Emily W.

We were in the area last week around lunch. My husband's friend had recommended Chicago Subs to him before and I remembered seeing great reviews on Yelp. We were really hungry and were excited to try it out. I had the Chicken Plate and my husband had the Chicken Shawarma. I definitely agree that the Chicken Plate is the best bang for your buck. They do not skimp on portions; so it's best to go here when you're particularly hungry. Or if you're not that hungry you can bring home left-overs. Seems like a win-win to me. All the food was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned, the tzatziki was creamy and fresh, and the rice was great too. We left extremely satisfied and would definitely go back again when we're in Richmond.

I usually stop at this place at least once a week for a chicken plate to-go. You get lots of meat and the usual tzatziki and hummus. It also comes with a pita with your choice of either whole wheat or white. The owners are super friendly and are quick to get the food to you. Everytime I'm there, there's always a line up. They're only open until 5 so it's really only a lunch place. Highly recommend this place if you need a place for lunch and are in the area. Like others have said, there aren't many halal restaurants in Richmond. Wouldn't recommend eating there since there's limited seating.

Chicago Subs = a weird name for a place that i feel is more of a donair place then a subs place. Anyways, I typically get their Chicken Plate which is a rice, topped with a generous portion of chicken (cut chicken - same as the donair chicken), a greek salad, tzatziki, hummous and a pita. For 8.99 the portion size is very filling for lunch. This place is a lunch place. At lunch time, they get packed but the service is prompt. Parking is very limited as they share with neighbouring businesses. Best bet is to leave early and just before lunch!

[Richmond Donair] Don't let the name fool you - Chicago subs is a family-run Donair shop serving rice plates, pitas, wraps and subs. There's nothing American about the place but they do serve a wicked sub. It's discreetly located in a small strip mall on Bridgeport near Ikea with free parking in front. As you walk in the door, the mouthwatering aroma of the chicken and beef rotisseries behind the counter hits you. They've got several options on their menus but the two real features are the rice plates and the subs. The rice plates consist of a large serving of your choice of meat (which they cut right off the rotisserie), rice, greek salad, hummus, and a pita and taste amazing. For $9 everything in, the chicken plate is my personal favorite. The portion sizes are large - I often opt not to take the pita if I intend to have a productive afternoon. The subs are equally delicious and come in 6" and foot-long sizes. They'll basically put anything you want on a sub - chicken, turkey, beef donair even. They've got a subway-like setup on the side where they'll load your sandwich (or pita) with the usual fixin's. The restaurant itself is a tad bigger than your usual hole-in-the wall places with seating for 12 people or so - it's more of a place you're want to do take out. The people that own the place are very quick and efficient in getting your order together. Even during busy times, lineups will disappear pretty quickly so if you're looking for a quick, cheap, tasty (workday) lunch, do yourself a favor and drop by.

I have a Falafel platter with pita bread for $8.99. Taste is OK, but the portion is not that big and Falafel is a bit dry. I kinda prefer Daddys Delight on No.5 rd.

Chicken plate with rice pilaf, a Caesar salad and two massive dollops of hummus and tzatziki. Good price

I was curious as to what the reviewers were raving about. And so I decided to pop in and give it a try. They weren't wrong. Yes this is a casual place and it's a no frills place. They are generous with their portions that's for sure. I ordered the chicken plate with a Caesar salad. They gave me two huge dollops of hummus and tzatziki smack on top of the rice pilaf. I wish they had placed it on a side plate. That really was my only complaint. The chicken was delicious and white flavourful. There were a couple of hard pieces maybe overcooked. They gave me one pita to break apart to sop up the two dipping sauces that were on my plate as described earlier. See the picture. You won't leave this place hungry guaranteed. I'll be back to try their donairs or maybe their subs. Weird cuz I don't think they specialize in those. Let's eat!!

Don't be fooled by the name "Chicago Sub" this place is more of a Middle eastern / donair food but yes they also have subs! I'm curious to know about the history of the name. Located on Bridgeport near Ikea, has small free parking lot in front. I was in the area craving something quick and healthy food. This place popped up on yelp while I was searching inside Ikea. Glad I dropped by. Seems busy with locals on their lunch break. I ordered the falafel plate for $8.99 came with fresh falafels, humous, pita, salad and tzatziki sauce. The falafel were ok, not the best I've had but not bad either. The humous was my favorite from the plate. The salad was fresh it included tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and green onion but was missing something, maybe some chickpeas or cucumbers needed some type of texture. Overall, I thought it was a good healthy lunch. Maybe I should have tried the chicken donair or plate and or even a sub, I guess I will next time.

There are some small tables for two along with high tables. I ordered the 'hot' sandwich, chicken parm. I was expecting crispy chicken parm with yummy cheese and rich tomatoe sauce. Let's be honest, the star of this show is the bread! The baguette was warm, soft and so delicious. However, that's where the excitement stopped for me. The chicken with breading was soggy and the pesto and mozzarella was such a small amount, it felt like a soggy chicken sandwich with lots of bread. If they put more pesto dressing, more mozzarella cheese and more tomatoe sauce, I could have looked past the soggy chicken. All in all, I'm glad it tried it, the bread is amazing, and I'll come back to try a 'cold' sandwich to see if the other options are better!

Hopefully this will reach more people.
