Stopped by for a late lunch and had to get a Doner because these aren't available in the states --or at least the places I've gone/lived. I enjoyed it but there wasn't as much sauce in the doner compared to the donair dude so it was just a bit less flavorful but still good because the meat was better here. Inside it was super humid and hot so we opted to eat at one of the two available tables outside and people watched a bit.  ~~Parking: Metered street parking available. I worked at a kebab shop in England for 8 years, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert in all things meaty and I have to say this kebab shop is absolutely banging. And exactly as a kebab shop should be. From the green walls to the "I've worked here too many years owner". It's bringing back memories of crawling home at 3 am with a kebab in one hand and my stilettos in the other. The meat is delicious, juicy and flavorful. And the chips are cooked to crispy perfection. I kinda wish I was drunk eating this as it would be the only way to make it better. Come here sober, come here drunk, you won't regret it. read more

After v-ball, we wanted something quick and easy for dinner. It's been awhile since we've had a donair so decided to give Döner Kebab a try. It's a few doors down from Rain or Shine Ice Cream. We dropped in on a Thursday evening (around 9:00pm). Service is quick and food comes out within minutes of ordering. Most people were grabbing takeout (we were the only ones that dined in). The worker asks if you want spicy and what toppings you want in your donair. The menu is short and sweet with 5 donair and 13 plate options. They also have four types of salad, samosa, dolmas and and baklava ($2.67 each). Don't see lamb shank too often. - Lamb shank ($13.33) - lamb shank, rice, hummus and your choice of salad. We asked for half pasta salad and half tabouli (but he gave us Greek instead). Lamb shank was quite tender and slow cooked so it fell off the bone. Sauce was also tasty and perfect to soak up with the rice. A bit strange that you don't get a pita to go with the hummus. Salads were refreshing; I enjoyed the pasta over the Greek. - Falafel donair ($7.67) - you can see the mini deep fryer they use to cook the falafels. We went with medium spicy (only results in a slight kick). The donair was pressed/grilled but oddly didn't have the slightest crunch or bite to it. Same with the falafels; no texture and so salty. Ruined it for me. DIdn't love the donair. Not running back anytime soon but if I were to come back, I'd stick with their platters. read more

The mix plate had rice, 3 falafels, chicken (which I chose), some hummus, and choice salad. The rice tasted awesome! They must make it with chicken stock or something. I could eat the rice alone. The falafel was great too. Crispy on the outside. It's a cheap, quick, solid joint. Full support, will definitely come again. read more

This is my go to spot for falafels. This place is awesome because they have four different salads to choose from. I always get the pasta salad because it's so delicious packed with garlic. Giant portions, good prices, good locale/lively neighborhood, the Doner Kebab is pretty deeeecent! Was craving a Donair bad because, when in Canada!!! BC may be on the opposite coast as the Maritime Provinces that birthed the Donair but this place didn't disappoint!! I knew my appetite at the time would only allow for one Donair so I opted for the Beef Donair over the Falafel. Walking into the shop, you are slapped with a heat wave. There's no air conditioning and they have a fan blowing, which doesn't help since it just circulates the hot air, so be prepared for that on a hot day. The samosa we tried was soggy and cold. I should have known better since it was sitting out in the display case rather than fried fresh upon order. I did love the sauce that came with the Samos although! The lamb doner, while generous in size, was lacking in flavor. We had to grab multiple sauces to add some oomph to it. I am happy kits has a place like this. There are not enough cheap and quick eats on fourth. Cozy and clean, the food is delicious. The owner is really nice, and if you eat in, he will give you complimentary tea. Ok, so I am a Döner snob. Having lived in Berlin for a few years, you eat enough of them to know when they are good, when they fill your belly and when they are bad. This place made an authentic, fresh and tasty Döner. I appreciated (but didn't eat) the pickled neon magenta turnips, and fresh vegetables. The sauce selection is missing a Garlic flavour, IMHO, but the hot sauce was a nice addition to the tzatziki. Highly recommend it to any visiting Berliners or people wanting a good meal at a reasonable price. Can't wait to try the mixed chicken and falafel one next! read more

So now I am on the hunt for a new go-to for my shawarma fix. Doner Kebab has fallen a little bit short of becoming my shawarma replacement destination. Mr. Shawarma was my favorite because all the components that were added to the chicken in the pita had their own independent level of spicing. The tomatoes and cucumbers were marinated, even the onions were dusted with paprika. After they were combined with all of the other ingredients, there was a bounty of spicy flavor in the wrap which meshed well and exploded in your mouth. At Doner Kebab, the vegetables are plain and the components that have some flavor intensity are used sparingly, so the end result is more like a North American chicken wrap than an eastern Mediterranean shawarma. If you want a large portion at a reasonable price you could do a lot worse than Doner Kebab, your wrap just won't be packing a flavor punch. read more

WOW!!! I was craving falafel and was in the neighbourhood. I decided to finally try this place, as it was lunchtime and the place was busy - always a good sign! As I walked in, I noticed two patrons seated near the door, eating their wraps, with a plate of baklava between them! Yes! Don't forget to order...I reminded myself! There were three spits on the go. Everything looked clean & fresh (a plus for me since I worked in the food industry). The person behind the counter had amazing customer service! I wonder if he is the owner? Doesn't matter, this guy gets a gold star for attention, personality, cleanliness, and hospitality. I ordered a combo plate of falafel & chicken...I got to choose my salad (of course tabouli)! The falafels were fried fresh - it's what makes a falafel place for me! You need that crunch...other places that just reheat the falafels...Boo!!! Falafels 11/10!!! Tremendous texture & crunch! I got 3 falafel balls, hummus, tabouli, a scoop of chicken, rice, toppings/sauces...all for $13!!! Their hot sauce is outstanding and homemade (like almost all donair places I visit). 10/10 The tabouli is the best I ever had...and it didn't have any couscous. It also didn't have gigantic/overwhelming onion ratios...in fact, it was mostly parsley & cucumber (nice addition!). 10/10 The chicken was just ok, could have used more marinade. Was placed under my falafels, so it was smothered in tahini, hot sauce & ??? Sauce. Chicken 6/10. I had to ask for pita, but he just gave me a whole one no charge (first time my platter hasn't included a pita in a donair joint). Pita was fresh & soft. Now...the baklava! The man behind the counter said their's was really good...he was not kidding!!! They make 2 styles: the sliced one & the individual rolled ones (don't know the names). I got the sliced one...such a perfect blend of sweet, spices, filo, and rose (?) essence! I'm a fiend for good baklava, and theirs ranks among the best! This place is so underrated! The food is amazing. The portion sizes are generous and service is consistently quick. The owner is sweet and will often throw in an extra pita. The falafels are made right in front of you and are perfectly crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside. Highly recommend trying their Persian tea too. It is tasty with rose and cardamom. I was in the area and was looking for something that was fast food but a bit higher in quality that hit most of my dietary needs that week. It is a small place, therefore, this is a grab and go situation. I asked them to go easy on the sauce so that I could walk with this in the sun and eat it without messing my shirt. Over the past 6 months or so, I've watched this restaurant evolve from Silk Road, a Kitsilano institution, to Doner Kebab. I want to note that my previous review was for Silk Road, not Doner Kebab - it appears the name of the restaurant has changed on the yelp page, and I don't want my previous review to be attributed to this new establishment. I have to admit that I have not eaten recently at Doner Kebab, but over the summer I did go in a couple of times, and there were a few red flags that indicated that something was changing. #1 - The amazing guy behind the counter, who always made the most delicious kebabs, and seemed to never take a day off because he was ALWAYS there, had suddenly been replaced by a new staff. At first I thought this was great, and that this business owner was doing well enough to hire some help and actually take some time off. #2 - Then I noticed that the tomatoes on top of the rotisserie meat were gone - this was a small detail, but I swear the tomatoes added such a new level of flavour to the meat as they literally had their juices seep down and marinate it all day long. #3 - The last time I was there I had ordered the mixed wrap, which used to be a delicious combination of shredded chicken and falafel. The chicken, falafel, veggie and sauce ratios in the Silk Road days used to be perfection, however, the last time I ordered this wrap it was dry, and I think it was even missing the falafel. I had ordered it to go, so didn't realize the error until I was home and couldn't ask for a correction...either way, it was not the wrap of Silk Road, and it was enough to make me not want to go back. #4 - Lastly, over the past couple of months, the decor inside has changed. What used to be a really charming, older space, complete with a vintage cast-iron stove, and bookshelf of lonely planets for you to flip through dreaming of far away vacations while you ate, has become a harshly lit, green-walled, giant TV kebab spot. Its charm is gone, and so was my appetite when I saw the colour of green they have decided to cover the walls with. The lonely planets are still there (for now). I used to tell everyone about Silk Road and how I swear it was the BEST kebab in the city, but I think that era is over. The sad part, I didn't even get to say good bye. Warning: If you are used to eating good donairs, don't eat here.. you will be dissapointed. I ordered a Lamb donair, and after a few minutes they asked me if I had ordered a chicken. Then they asked me what I wanted inside, and I told them everything except the spicy jalapeños. When I started eating it, I noticed that it was dry inside, so I went and asked the worker to put some sauce inside. His answer was, but you told me not to put any sauce.... The attendant was a very distracted man. Maybe its different in each city, but I was dissapointed that they didnt have any donair sauce. To me, the sauce is what makes a donair taste good. Instead they put zatziki sauce inside, which made it not taste like a donair. Other people might like it, but to me it was not a good experience at all. Yum! The newish owners have changed the decor to a bright lime green so I didn't go in for a long time. BUT since I have tried the lamb shank plate a few times.. The falafel is absolutely delicious BUT I'm only giving three stars because I've witnessed cross-contamination twice, so I don't think I will be going back. On both occasions, the person working was handling cash and then made my pita without changing his gloves or washing his hands. I'm too shy to say anything, but really, I shouldn't have to. This place has great chicken doner and falafels. They put a lot of vegetables into their doners and they taste great. The only thing I don't like is their problem with consistency. Sometimes their falafels are freshly made and taste like heaven but other times they are old, hard, and clearly not fresh. It's hard to know when they will be fresh. I think they make more when they run out. Prices are also quite high for a doner so overall I think three stars is very fair. Still one of the better doner shops in Vancouver. read more

ah a new shawarma spot. vancouver can never have enough. This is turkish style and legit. The most notable thing that sets this place apart from all the other shawarma joints is instead of the standard wrap they serve sandwiches (essentially thicker pitas). The decor of the places is modern and cozy. The owner is very nice sometimes serves you turkish tea if he's around. one thing to note with all the sauces, this bundle of awesomeness can get pretty messy, but messy is good. mmm i'm going to head out now and get another. read more

Only tried the chicken plate, but it's easily the best of its kind that I've had in Vancouver. Fresh tasting, delicious, a mixture of flavors. Hummus and bread taste homemade. Hidden chunks of buttery potatoes mixed in with the light rice. People working there are friendly. For what it is, inexpensive delicious food, you can't really beat this place. read more
