37. Pepper Salted Fish Fillet & 57. Ong Choy Beef

I came by again with my mom, like my previous review, the spot is pretty small and feels quite homey, more suited for smaller parties. It was just us and one other party at first but they quickly become packed after we were seated. The water didn't have the same dish soap taste issue I had last time so that's an upside. We ordered: * Salt and Pepper Lamb: 7.6/10 This was flavorful and fried pretty well. It's seasoned very similarly to the fish dish I had the last time I was here. They seem to utilize curry powder in all of their "salt and pepper" dishes. My main gripe about this dish is that the CHUCKS of fat. Maybe that would be appealing to some but each lamb stick had like ~35% fat which is A LOT if you consider that there's already not much meat on each rack. * Broccoli and Seafood Stir Fry: 7.5/10 This was nothing exceptional, I feel that you can definitely get this at any Chinese restaurant. It was flavorful and the veggies and seafood was cooked well (not over or undercooked). * Orange Chicken: 7.5/10 Tastes exactly like panda express but with a slightly better frying method? However, the pieces of chicken was a lot less substantial (many random thin and small pieces) I would note that the dishes do take a while to be made and brought out. We honestly wanted to try the pan fried pork buns but the quantity was too much for us to justify ordering it for just the two of us (on top everything else). I think that may be the only thing I would come back to try. Since it is very close to my home that's another appeal but otherwise, I feel like most other Chinese spots are comparable.

An unpretentious small hole-in-the-wall that's been serving solid Northern Chinese style food with generous portions for over 30 years. Hits: The xiao long bao had a wonderful burst of umami rich broth with tender pork inside. Warm and comforting. The dough a bit thick for my taste. The crispy duck was absolutely spot on. Crackling skin with juicy, succulent, meat. Drew rave accolades from my Shanghainese sister-in-law. My favorite the clams in black bean sauce . I usually prefer smaller clams, and these were on the larger side, but they nailed the sauce. Perfect balance of sweet, salty, and that unmistakable black bean funk. Spoon that sauce over white rice and let me have a moment to myself. Miss: The cold ginger chicken. Good flavors but a bit dry. Good friendly service. There's a small parking lot on the side of the restaurant that can hold about 8 cars. Happy Eating!!

This place is pretty fabulous! The food is amazing and fresh and so good. The orange chicken is incredible!! Soup dumplings wonderful! Honestly everything was so good. All served family style and decent portions, the orange chicken could have a larger portion since it was family style. Service was fast. They are very friendly and so nice. You will most likely need a reservation. It gets packed. There is no parking, so you will have to go down the street across the Chic Fila in the public parking. It also fills up fast. So just prepared to get street parking and walk there. This place is quaint and has 8 tables so be patient, and make sure to get there early and hope you can sit and eat!

Ok hi girlies and friends The bad: let me preface by saying it was a full house. That being said it made sense that it took at least 20-25 minutes to get our first dish. Also I wish they had enough ice to keep the water in the pitchers cold. Meh. Next time I'll just bring a hydro flask. Also the only bathroom is a one stall that makes you take a journey from the dining area, thru the kitchen and down a short hall. Alas I'm a whimsical betch and enjoyed the open house embarkment The good: good service. Friendly. Attentive. For the most part. Restaurant was clean with food ambiance. We got the following dishes: house fried rice, beef broccoli, pot stickers and sesame bread The HFR was interesting with a veggie medley of corn, carrots, green beans, green onion and slivers of onion. It also had lup cheong, shrimp and I think pork. I'd maybe get it again if I didn't want just plain white rice The potstickers. Great taste but no potstickers sauce that I'm used to getting with dishes such as and therefore as gyoza. Alas a concoction of shoyu vinegar and chili paste (?) that was available to us on the table sufficed. The filling was a yummy nugget of pork and chunk of shrimp. Great wrapper too. The texture made me think it was made in house. Beef broccoli was also yums. Broccoli still has crunch while not fearing I'd break a tooth. Beef was juicy and tender. Great flavor. Sesame bread. My cumpanion suggested getting it after reading reviews from other attendees. It was interesting. It was giving pita bread but hot and Asian with white and black sesame seeds. I'd say get it but use it as a vessel to sop up grave from other dishes. Would go again

Just tried this small mom and pop restaurant as was pleasantly surprised on how good some of their dishes were. Not everything was on point but overall it was a good meal. The best things we ate were the orange chicken and pork eggplant. The dumpling soup was a little bland, crispy lamp chops were tasty but a little too oily for my liking. Shanghai dumplings were good. I would like to try here again and try some of their other dishes.

What was SUPPOSED to be our Orange Chicken. No sauce

Both times I've ordered Uber Eats from this place has been horrible unfortunately. My partner, my mom, and I ordered from here on Christmas and it was really bad. First, it took nearly 2 hours (uber eats driver's fault, not there's) and when we go it everything was cold and soggy. Our pan fried pork buns were incredibly soggy and somehow WET and mushy also. And our orange chicken had NO ORANGE SAUCE. It was dry. My mom and partner got really bad food poisoning from it afterwards. I will say it was quite late when we ordered it so it may have been the last of what was left, but I don't think that should excuse it. The best thing was the fried rice but it was really basic fried rice. Nothing special. Lowkey ruined our Christmas a bit. Their menu LOOKS so good but the execution is so horrible. Idk if the dine in experience here is different but it should be consistent even with take out. Especially if I'm paying MORE.

My good friend and I love coming here after a day at HoMa. It's the perfect place for an early dinner. she loves the beef over crispy fried noodles, and I love the chicken and mushrooms. Mmm so tasty and comforting! Service is so Aloha. I love this place every time and cannot wait to come back very soon. I think they take reservations but you can sometimes walk in when they first open.

Love this spot cause it's Taiwanese! Got their ja ja mien and shao bing to go! Both comfort foods! Great spot to come for dinner if you're craving Taiwanese foods!?

Dew Drop Inn on Beretania is small--about 8 tables--which makes the room feel intimate. We went on a Sunday at 7 PM and it was buzzing. Every table was full, servers were moving fast, and food was coming out quickly. People kept walking in looking for seats, but the room stayed full. Service was very nice and friendly, and the place felt homey and local We ordered three dishes: dumplings (pork and chives) for $18, Choy Sum Bean Curd for $18, and the Shao Bing (pork, veggies, tofu) for $19. Everything was good, but nothing struck me as special. The exception was the Shao Bing, which was new to us and very delicious. At $18-19, the meal felt pricey for what we got. If I return, it will be for that Shao Bing; the rest didn't justify the price the same way Overall, the food was good but didn't show that extra X factor we look for. Given the $18-19 pricing across the board, that matters. The Shao Bing delivered; the dumplings and Choy Sum Bean Curd did not feel worth those prices

Best Chinese/Taiwanese food I've had in a long time! [Location] This unassuming gem is located on Beretania near Chick-fil-a. There are very limited parking spots to the left-hand side of the restaurant entrance. Drive with caution as there are people that walk by and the space is narrow. You can also park at a metered spot, but be mindful of the time you park and cost. I believe the restaurant has a restroom, though I'm not sure. The space is much larger than it looks, and well ventilated. Nice and cool! Wish I had brought a light jacket. Limited seating. I can see how the place can get packed quickly. [Food] My boyfriend and I enjoyed the Shanghai pork buns (came with black vinegar) which were super delicious! The Taiwanese noodle soup (described spicy) is the star of the menu. The broth is flavorful, lots of aromatics! Plenty of tender beef morsels and delicious ong choy. If you don't like cilantro, you may not appreciate this dish. I also found it interesting that the noodles were more udon-like than I've seen in different renditions of this dish. My boyfriend liked his Mongolian beef but noted it wasn't spicy. I didn't care for the Mongolian beef because there wasn't much to it, in portion or taste. The dish didn't come with rice, so we had to order a side bowl of jasmine rice for $2.00 extra. Good portion of rice, very well cooked. This place is BYOB, though I'm not certain if there is a corking fee. The dishes were priced on the high side but I did leave with plenty of leftovers! [Service] The staff were very kind and friendly, though not the most attentive. We had to ask for hot tea, as we were only given ice waters; however, the tea was flavorless (tasted like water). We also waited quite a while to order (despite being the only ones seated at the time), and even had to get out of our seats to grab some to-go boxes and the check from an employee. Still, we enjoyed our experience and everyone was very pleasant! My boyfriend and I will visit again! Parking isn't fun but the food is worth the hassle.

Dew Drop has been at the same location since the 80s. It's one of the very few local mom and pop restaurants that I like going to. The owner Charlie and wife, Becky, cook up Taiwanese dishes with a local taste. The dumplings are good as well as their ground pork sesame bread pockets. Finish your meal with some black sesame balls. This is a small restaurant seating around 25 people comfortably, but can probably pack 35 diners. Becky runs the front of the house and Charlie does the cooking. Their son Jimmy helps out both in the front and in the kitchen. They have a parking lot next door to the restaurant that has space for 8 cars. If that is full your option is street metered.

Really good Taiwanese style beef noodle soup- tasted like home to me! Portions are great. We shared the noodle soup plus white rice and tasty Mongolian beef. Servers are so friendly but sometimes the language barrier can cause order mixups, so it's best if you're patient or can speak Mandarin Chinese :) looking forward to trying lots else on their menu!

I finally got to try Dew Drop Inn in Honolulu, and I'm glad I did. It was my first time and the place has a quiet charm family-run, with a menu full of northern Chinese dishes that feel both familiar and new. I went in with no expectations, just curiosity. A few dishes really stood out: #12, the cold egg with pressed tofu, had a unique texture and flavor that caught me off guard in a good way. #66, the Szechuan eggplant, packed bold seasoning with just the right heat. #41, the steamed fish with ginger onion sauce, was clean and comforting and #7, the spicy boiled chicken dumplings, were a highlight tender, flavorful and topped with fresh herbs and crispy shallots that gave it a nice lift. I didn't get around to trying #50 (orange chicken) or #58 (salt and pepper lamb) but I did sample #9, the cold jellyfish. It was more subtle than the others, but still interesting. You can tell the kitchen is run with care but I noticed the focus seems to lean more toward takeout these days. The in-person service was quiet, not as hands-on as I would have expected. All-in-all I'm planning to go back with family soon. There's a lot more on the menu I want to try and I'd love to support a local spot that's clearly built on tradition and heart.

It's located next to EARL and Cafe Kaila in the corner of Market City Shopping Center on Kapiolani Blvd in Kapahulu. There is a parking lot for customers and an overflow lot in the back where Ben Franklin is. Both times, I came with my family, and we ordered a variety of food and shared family style. The food here was absolutely delicious! Some items that we had ordered were: - Singaporean Rice Noodles - delicious! So flavorful with a lot of shrimp. It was even better with the curry from the curry crab. - Hong Kong Style Garlic Shrimp Prawns - well seasoned with a delicious crispiness and crunchiness! Shrimps are always a favorite of mine. - Thai Style Pork Cheek - great appetizer but the others really outshined this dish. The sauce was incredible, though! - Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Wing - beautifully coated with a layer of salted egg yolk. One of the few unique dishes that is a must try. - Fried Green Beans w/ Minced Meat & Sambal Shrimp Paste - the minced meat and sambal shrimp paste really brought out the flavor of the green beans, complementing it extremely well. - Salted Fish Chicken Eggplant - the salted fish really enhanced the flavor of this dish. I honestly thought without it, the entire dish would have been mediocre. This was a surprise! - Beef Chow Funn - this was ok. I thought there wasn't enough wok hay and flavor to this chow fun. - J.J. Chicken (Half) - this was one of my least favorite dishes only because all the other dishes outshined it. It was still good - just didn't have a great WOW factor like the others. - HK Style Beef Fried Rice - this was actually a lot better than the beef chow fun in my opinion. It was especially good with the leftover curry from the crab. - Curry Crab w/ Naan Bread - the star of the meals! There were different ways to prepare the crab, but we ultimately decided on the curry as it was #1 of the 3 or 4 styles. I did want the Singaporean one but was worried it would be spicy for the grandparents. Next time! Regardless, this was an amazing decision as the curry was soooo good. I couldn't get enough of it! The crab was delicious, fresh, and meaty--one order was plenty for our group of seven! It was definitely a messy meal, but well worth it. We even had so much leftover curry sauce that I couldn't bear to waste it, so I took it home to enjoy with rice the next day. - Hong Kong Style Garlic Fried Crab - well seasoned with a lot of flavor, but it was much drier than the curry version. Still delicious but that curry crab was still a winner. - HK Style Ice Milk Tea w/ Frozen Bear - this was a cute drink that they heavily advertised in their drink menu. I thought it would be a gimmick, but the drink itself was strong and delicious. This restaurant honestly stole my heart! So many delicious options that continuously wowed me. I definitely can see myself coming back often for family dinners.

Hong Kong lemon tea- not strong enough, watery. True Hong Kong lemon tea is very strong. Black pepper sizzling beef- the most flavorful and tender dish. Chili oil- I asked for chili oil and they really gave me chili oil. I asked for chili oil with the pepper flakes and they said they charge money for that. So I just opted for the chili oil to make my friend rice more flavorful and a bit spicy, the oil was spicy, that's it, no flavor. Customer service- the male servers were very attentive. It's street parking only on King Street but if you're lucky like us you can snag a metered parking spot right outside. It's a QR code menu and you order from your phone. I love a physical menu just as much as the next person, but with all the customizations you can make to the dishes- being able to select them on your phone just makes it so much easier. I went with the classic beef noodle soup, with a thick noodle. There was multiple different noodles to choose from but I think that this was the most classic for a beef noodle soup. The broth was really rich and clean (not spicy) and I loved the texture of the noodles. My friend ordered the dry mix noodle with pork and chickpeas in mixed sauce. She got it a regular spicy and it was just above my threshold for spice but so good. The texture of the chickpeas when it was mixed in made it creamy and so unique. Next time I'm going to try the dry noodle with mashed potatoes and beef.

They also seem to have renovated, with a much more spacious and modern interior. We've tried the Boiled Fish and Pickled Cabbage with rice, Wuwei Spicy Beef Noodle, and Fried Noodle (rice noodle). You get to choose what type of noodles you want. The first time, I ordered the Boiled Fish and asked for mild spice, but it was so spicy I could barely finish it and ended up just eating the fish and leaving the rest. Such a shame because I was craving those sour and spicy flavors and wanted to pair the soup with rice, but I definitely wasn't expecting the mild level to be THAT spicy. My bf, on the other hand, can handle really spicy food and ordered the spicy level for his beef noodles, but his wasn't that spicy at all. We wondered if the spice levels got mixed up, but I've seen other reviews mentioning that even the mild level for the Boiled Fish is really spicy, so maybe that's just how it is... The boiled fish soup was also oilier than what I've had elsewhere. For the Wuwei Spicy Beef Noodle, since we ordered takeout, the beef came separately with its own marinade. I wouldn't recommend pouring the marinade into the noodle soup because it completely overpowers the original spicy broth. The beef itself was perfectly tender, though! The Fried Rice Noodle was really good, and we had no complaints! It also came in a HUGE portion that was plenty for the two of us. Both times, I was craving Szechuan flavors and rice noodle dishes, and these definitely hit the spot! I wouldn't say I'm in love with everything we tried, but overall, the food was really good and worth satisfying those cravings.

Also, try the house-made soy milk if you get the chance. It was yummy. My mom used to make it, but it takes a lot of work.

After our first visit, I completely understand why this place has earned such high praise. Every single bite was heavenly, and the hospitality was every bit as impressive as the food. We enjoyed it so much that we're already considering coming back tomorrow! The Details: Some of my favorite restaurant discoveries begin with recommendations from fellow Yelpers, and this one was no exception! I'd had Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant bookmarked in my Yelp app for quite some time after reading glowing reviews and recommendations from other diners and several of my Yelp friends. Well, today my wife and I finally decided to see what all the excitement was about. WOW! What an incredible little dim sum adventure we had! Apparently, we weren't the only ones impressed. The restaurant proudly displays recognition for being named Best Dim Sum in 2026 by Honolulu Magazine. After today's experience, I can certainly back up the accolades! We decided to make an epic dim sum feast of our lunch, ordering a wonderful assortment of dishes to share. Our selections included: - Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings): Beautifully steamed shrimp dumplings wrapped in delicate, translucent wrappers. A dim sum classic and one of my absolute favorites! - Shanghai Pork Dumplings: Those wonderful little steamed parcels that make dim sum such an enjoyable culinary adventure. - Celery Shrimp Dumplings: Another delightful variation of har gow showcasing the versatility of these wonderful steamed dumplings wrappers. - Pork Hash with Seafood (Siu Mai): We actually ordered two servings of these beauties! That should tell you something! - Steamed BBQ Pork Buns: Fluffy, pillowy steamed buns filled with savory-sweet Char Siu barbecue pork. Comfort food at its finest! - Spring Rolls: Beautifully golden and crispy, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. - Char Siu Look Fun: Silky rice noodle rolls wrapped around delicious barbecue pork and served in a savory sauce. Another wonderful addition to our feast! Every single dish was absolutely heavenly! There wasn't a disappointing bite anywhere on our table. Each bamboo steamer seemed to deliver another little treasure, and we thoroughly enjoyed working our way through the assortment. One thing I particularly appreciate about dim sum is the opportunity to sample so many different flavors and textures during a single meal. It's almost like taking a miniature culinary tour of Cantonese cuisine, one delicious bite at a time...! And then there's the SERVICE! I cannot emphasize enough how absolutely wonderful the servers were. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and genuine hospitality took an already exceptional meal to another level. They really made us feel welcome, and that kind of service deserves recognition. Outstanding food is one thing, but pairing it with equally outstanding hospitality is what makes a restaurant truly memorable. Several servers divided and conquered the room leaving all guests happy and content. Another pleasant surprise was the value. Our seven orders of dim sum came to just $62 before tax and gratuity. Considering the quality of the food, the variety we enjoyed, and the exceptional service, we felt it was money very well spent! My wife and I have enjoyed plenty of wonderful meals during our visits to Hawaii, but this particular lunchtime adventure will certainly stand out as one of our favorites. And here's perhaps the strongest endorsement I can offer: We enjoyed our lunch so much that we're returning TOMORROW! That's saying something when you're visiting an island with so many fantastic dining opportunities competing for your attention! To my fellow Yelpers who recommended this restaurant, MAHALO! You steered us toward a real winner! Final Thoughts: Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant has earned a permanent spot on my Honolulu dining list. Fantastic dim sum, reasonable prices, extraordinary hospitality, and an experience that left both of us smiling. Five enthusiastic stars! Some restaurants leave you wanting to come back someday. This one left us wanting to come back tomorrow!

I came here again, I would say this is probably one of my most revisited restaurants. I just love…read moredimsum and this spot got dimsum till late! This review is a consolidation of the past like 4-5 times I've came. Last few times I ordered: - Taro Puffs: One of my absolute favorites. I just wish sometimes it was a bit more fresh/hot. Most of the times it comes out just luke warm, which makes it taste more greasy. - Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice always comes out pipping out. Rice is plump and sticky. The filling is flavorful. I don't care for the lup chup but most don't mind. - Chicken Feet: usually good, there was a few misses. Maybe we came too early but the chicken feet wasn't as soft and cooked through as usual. - Look fun rolls: soft, bouncy and so delicious with soy sauce. - Fried shrimp balls: crowd favorite, it is simple and never misses - Sui Mai: also another crowd pleaser, a classic dimsum dish. - Seafood Roll: has seafood, meat, and veggies within. It is quite salty though, like almost a bit too salty. Also it's outer texture can be considered as "slimy" which may push some folks away. - Beef Ball: It is very QQ, however, it has a very distinctive flavor. Very cilantro heavy, - Pan-fried seafood dumpling: it has shrimp and chives within. Crispy and the skin is bouncy, another crowd favorite. - Spring Roll: surprising hitter for me. I know spring roll is the classic dish, but I almost never order because many times it could be a disappointing oily stick. However, this one was delicious. Savory, with a crisp crunch. - Black Pepper Steak: I wouldn't exactly recommend ordering this dish. As much as it is flavorful, since the steak is cubed, some bites are just a bit too tough and chewy. Not all, but definitely some, enough to notice. - Baked Custard Bun: they almost NEVER have this, no matter the time I come. Very sad. I think I've gotten it like once, since they moved locations, it is one of my favorite baked Chinese treats. - Egg Tarts: flaky, eggy (in a good way), recommended. - Baked Char Sui Bun: Not bad, the top is crunchy and very sweet. Overall, I would heavily recommend this spot. It can sometimes be noisy, and sometimes completely empty. I would also note that the dimsum is on the pricier side compared to most of the dimsum spots on the island, especially after they moved.
