We took a family trip to Branson this January, and I will say I don't recommend Branson in January. There are so many places that are closed for the month, I'm guessing because it's usually there slowest time of year. Anyway, we decided to check out Big Cedar Lodge while we were there for the views and a brunch. Devil's Pool breakfast was fantastic and I recommend it to everyone that goes down this way! Usually, from what I've heard, they have a breakfast buffet, but with COVID-19 they took that away for now. Everything we ordered was great and my two sons felt the same way! Always a win. Afterwards, we took a hike around the area and viewed some waterfalls around the river, then headed toward the exit of Top of the Rock where there are some amazing views of the area! Made for a great photo shoot to end the trip. Next time we will definitely spend some more time at Top of the Rock and Big Cedar Lodge as it seems to be the best spot in the area. read more

I enjoy coming to Devil's Pool on account of its active atmosphere and live music that they offer on weekend evenings. The drive to come into Big Cedar is always pretty and the decor in the restaurant is fitting for a cabin. There are other restaurants on site that provide a better view of the lake and a more elegant menu, but they usually lack liveliness, which is why I come back to Devil's Pool. Menu items are generally crowd pleasers and nothing spectacular, but the nachos and burgers I've tried come in big portions and their meat is good. Service can sometimes be slow and getting refills on water may take a minute on the weekend. I also wish they'd serve beer and wine in glass cups and not plastic; its a simple upgrade, but would make a substantial difference in enjoyment. read more

Food was spot on. Our waiter, Kevin, was super attentive to our 10 year old. He was kind, spoke to her directly and engaged in small banter with her. She was impressed and nothing makes me happier than when someone excludes her and makes her feel important. Thank you Kevin. We decided to eat out last minute, so we didn't have a reservation. We were seated quickly, and our server was Kevin. He was awesome, attentive throughout our meal, and had a great sense of humor. The food was delicious and served piping hot, and portions were good. We ordered catfish and a ravioli dish with sun dried tomatoes--neither disappointed!! I ordered their bowl of chili that was too thick and dry. It was recommended to order their loaf of cornbread with bacon/butter and it was dry and tasteless. This is more of a tourist place than a good place to eat. The grounds are beautiful and the bartender was helpful and attentive. I have to say they do have a nice view/sunset from the location but unfortunately the food just wasn't good. We didn't stay at the resort but I had read about the various restaurant options which are open to the public. Skip the flatbreads they are a total 0. The nice thing about this establishment is you can order from both menus for dinner as well as the bar restaurant below it for their dinner menu (we mixed and match from both menus without any issue). The vegetarian options are minimal and their website was not up to date and some veggie options had been replaced with ones that didn't fit my taste buds. Do be aware it's not very shaded at dinner so be prepared to get hit by strong sun or wait until closer to sunset. A bit overpriced for the mediocre quality but defiantly a setting worthy of experiencing. Just don't expect great things from the food. Average 3 stars. read more

Located on Big Cedar property, Devil's Pool is a nice breakfast/brunch spot with scenic views from the patio. It's nice for large groups and families because of the buffet option. We opted for menu items- the country style Benedict and avocado toast. Both were good, but nothing out of this world. A typical breakfast spot. Downstairs from Devil's Pool is Buzzard Bar which is my go-to for dinner whenever I'm at Big Cedar. I prefer it's casual menu and atmosphere however I got to try Devil's Pool for breakfast recently. I ordered the lemon and blackberry french toast with sides of potatoes and bacon. The meal was more than enough for my wife and I to share. The french toast was good but nowhere close to the best I've had. The bacon and potatoes were just ok. Usually this would be disappointing when considering the price but, hey, you're at a resort which means your subsidizing the cost of the outstanding amenities. When this is taken into account, I feel the meal is pretty good. I'll be back to Big Cedar and when I do, I'll likely hit Devil's Pool again for breakfast as it is it a better option that either the Canteen at Long Creek or Truman's at the main property. read more

We went to lunch here today after the Cave trail and Museum. We had reservations for lunch but the restaurant was nearly empty (that should have been a clue but we ignored it). We were pleasantly seated and our waiter was excellent. We ordered BBQ nacho, fried okra, and a Prime rib sandwich with au jus. Food came out very fast and was professionally plated. The food was so disappointing. Water in the bottom of the nachos, fried okra wasn't crispy, and the sandwich was awful. Focusing on the $19 sandwich...bun had no texture, prime rib was just a flavorless roast beef with some sadly grilled onion and peppers, mushrooms that must be from Brooklyn because they were just tough...last au jus was a brown water with no beef flavor or even any seasoning. Almost didn't eat here due to the below 4 star score but since it snowed and was off season and many places closed...we decided to take a chance on this place. Boy we're we glad we did! We are big fans of Big Cedar Lodge. Unfortunately, the restaurant at Devil's Pool isn't what it used to be. We love the view of TableRock Lake and cove but the trees are getting overgrown and hiding the water view. Additionally, the food has gone downhill. I usually get the prime rib, ordered it last month and it wasn't fresh, tasted old, tough and overcooked. Last night I gave it another try after being assured the prime rib would be good and considered a featured item. It wasn't much better, still tough and had a bad flavor. We will not be going back again. The prices are high and the quality of the food is not good. It's too bad because it used to be so much fun and had delicious food. read more

Delicious and gorgeous view! We made a 7:15 reservation and asked to be seated outside. That was the perfect time of day to come because we were able to enjoy the gorgeous sunset as we ate our dinner. We split the cornbread (best cornbread I've ever had). We enjoyed our evening at the Devil's Pool. It's pretty far out of he way but the area is so nice! We had a very large group (about 20) so we knew there would likely be some service issues but aside from main courses being a little slow to come out, they did a pretty good job. This restaurant has a menu that is a little more high end and is expensive. I had the chicken and waffles. It comes with some bacon on it and a watermelon salsa. I don't eat watermelon so I cannot speak to that part. The chicken and waffles were old. The chicken was good and crispy but t lacked seasoning. Some salt or something would have gone a long way. I really didn't love the waffle. The whole thing needed some sauce or some type of moisture. My husband had the pork belly and he enjoyed it but felt it was pretty much all fat and he would have liked more meat. Our table had about everything on the menu and the general consensus was it was okay. While the menu was a little higher end, the restaraunt isn't snooty. It's a lodge style with lots of tables. Many antlers on the wall along with prize fish and antlers. There was live music playing downstairs that drifted up that made the experience laid back and enjoyable. Don't let the 3 star rating fool you. This is a decent place for a meal for sure. 5 star service. 3 star food! read more

Yelp is wrong. This is open and @ Big Cedar in Ridgedale, M0. Devil's Pool Restaurant deck overlooks a large kiddy pool. I found the view from the deck more enjoyable than the joke about the name (that says something because I liked the joke- Devil's/kiddy pool). The free bread was flavorful with cheese and the free cracker had various seeds for flavor. Everyone was pleasently surprised. My party of three shared the bowl of chili. This was unlike any chili I have ever had because it was made with smoked prime rib. While I have had spicier or more complex chili, I am not sure if I have had more enjoyable or better quality. This can also be served as part of room service. We also had the special- pulled pork and cole slaw on ciabata sandwich (ordered more sauce) and seasoned fries. This was very good and if I had not had the phenomenal chili I would had enjoyed it more. (The chili really raised the bar) My group did not want to leave the deck. The outdoor seating has a great view of the pool, a pond and the lake. Later that night, @ Buzzard Bar that shares menu, I also enjoyed the appetizer shrimp dish, but was buttery for me (oh well vacation and in the Ozarks). This was served on small toasts around fresh greens. I did enjoy the indulgence, plus gave me an exuse to thin out the blood with a beer (medicinal). (Added later) I do not know what I was thinking about ordering shrimp! I got the smoked trout and it was great (pic). The fish was served with capers, sauce, greens and a lemon. The fish was well flavored. I also had the Bison Burger with the best thick cut smoked bacon and a generous amount of cheese. This was very good. The smoked prime rib is excellent if you liked smoked meat. I actually like my prime rib medium rare where I can really taste the meat. I really wish I tried the grilled trout, but ran out of time. If you are going to hand out menus and let people order food, then have a kitchen that is able to get food out in a reasonable time. We waited an hour and 15 minutes for four hamburgers. I could have literally driven back to the house and cooked them myself, in the time it took. The pathetic thing is that they are only hurting themselves! Let me start the review off with giving the food a 4/5 but the service 5/5. We ventured to Buzzards our first night, bit then decided to go a little nicer the second. Given we enjoyed our food so much from buzzards we figured this too would be a knock out. Unfortunately, it was not. We ordered the smoked trout abd the curry shrimp appetizers. The trout was fine, but didn't taste smokey. Goat cheese or creme fresh it was served with was tasty, and I enjoyed the seedy cracker like bread that was provided. The shrimp on the other hand was quite a disappointment. The pitas got hard and chewy really fast, and the curry sauce itself didn't taste authentic. Instead it had so much salt it was hard to eat. Big disappointment considering we were hoping for some tasty seafood. If the curry is simply a curry powder, i suggest adding other spices vs just salt. Then for dinner I got a simple ceasesr salad with grilled chicken. Something was off eith the chicken. Like the grill hadn't been cleaned properly, but it also had an odd smell I noticed soon as the plate was put in front of me. My friend agreed, it smelled and tasted off. Then, the lettuce was warm, almost room temperature. Not sure if it was from the chicken, but the whole thing was less than appetizing. Thank God the service was good 4/5. Our server I'd give 5/5. He was attentive and understanding to the debacle. However, I deducted one star becsuse the flies were so bad outside they practically ruined the meal. I understand we chose to eat out there, but mount some lamps or find a way to deter the Flys a little but from the food. I love Big Cedar Lodge with all of my heart. But MAN is it expensive. My mom and I went for a short getaway in early February with the intent to relax and spend time together. We had planned to have dinner at Osage Restaurant for a bit of a fancier experience and then the next night a little closer to our Big Cedar cabin. Basically, I was just very taken aback by the prices on this menu. I know that is out of the server's control and possibly all staff, but I feel that at minimum, there should be a more cost effective menu during the off season. We ended up getting an appetizer and drinks then leaving to visit the bar downstairs for a less expensive meal. The place was basically empty upstairs and just not worth spending over $30 or $40 per person. We had the fondue as an appetizer and while it was good, there was only bread for dipping. So it would probably be best titled as a beer cheese dip or something along those lines. We come back every year for Thanksgiving lunch and it never disappoints. Even though it is still extremely expensive, I would recommend going for an occasion like this so as to truly get what you're paying for! read more

Well... the servers were very sweet. I'll start there. The place is beautiful and has a gorgeous view. We started with water and as soon as we swirled our straws we noticed stuff floating... gross. We ordered drinks instead, sprite for him and alcohol for me. His sprite was like seltzer water. We tried again with Coke and found a winner... sigh. He loved the cornbread app and his catfish dinner. I enjoyed the livers app, but the potato soup and salmon were bland. Like... no seasoning at all bland. So much potential there smh.
