I got the Aged Crescent Black Milk Tea and the Charcoal Roasted Oolong Milk Tea. I loved the Aged Crescent because it was quite smooth, milky, and chocolate-y. My partner's Charcoal Roast has flavor tones of popcorn which the flavor notes on the menu was on point (caramely, toasty). Boba was warm, firm yet chewy. The lids felt a bit cheap though? The staff was friendly and talkative, but we tried to order quickly to help keep the line moving. We decided on the Phoenix No. 2 Oolong Milk Tea and the Rising Buddha Oolong Milk Tea. After ordering, we waited by the left wall, and our drinks came out in about 5 minutes. Both drinks were good! I'd recommend lowering the sweetness to around a 3 or 4 and keeping the ice level at full. They do offer adjustments, but note it will take another 5-7 minutes. Yes, yes, yes! This is what I'm talking about when I want a boba drink. I don't need any of those superfluous toppings, cream tops, whatever. Just give me a solid tea flavor with some boba pearls. This is what Desouro specializes in. They have a special extraction process that really brings out the flavor of the tea. Truthfully, there are few, if any, other boba shops in Irvine that have such a bold tea flavor in their drinks. They opted for a very sleek interior and even their boba cups have a darker shade to them - it's like boba couture or something lol. They have impeccable service, with the staff providing all the details you need to pick a tea drink that's right for you. They'll also let you taste it and make any adjustments. Luckily, I visit off-peak hours, so this service is great. But I can definitely see how this could play towards their detriment, as it makes busy days even busier. The aesthetic is very pleasing! Super clean and upscale. And the service was outstanding! Gabby was phenomenal in explaining the menu as it was a first time visit for me. She went through the flavor profiles of a few drinks and recommended for me to try the drink before I left and if I didn't like it, I could always request for it to be remade. She maintained a smile from ear to ear as she served other customers and when I received my matcha, gabby encouraged me to try it and let her know if she needed to change anything. My friends invited me to try Desouro, hearing that it was basically Orobae 2.0. Although I did hear and see some controversy about the shop I wanted to try it anyways just to see if the quality was the same, and if it was worth the hype. My friends waited for 45 minutes and got to order without me since I was still at work. By the time I got there, they had just gotten their drinks and I met them outside, not getting to experience any part of ordering. I got the Phoenix Oolong No. 13, level 5 sweet, since I remember that the Phoenix Oolong at Orobae was one of my fav drinks. I also decided to get it (in comparison to their No.2) with the expectation of a prominent "medium-dark roasted oolong tea" (which was in the menu description). Unfortunately it was not to my liking. It was very milky and creamy, and the oolong tea did not come through that milk. The tea did not seem to be of a medium-dark roast and actually came out quite light. My friend who got the same drink but at a level 3 sweetness also said her drink was very bland. Out of curiosity I tried it. It was very much just milk.. (or maybe even nondairy creamer because it has that familiar texture and after taste..). From experience working at a boba shop, and frequently going out for drinks with friends, usually the sweetness level shouldn't change the amount of tea inside the drink. Understandably the enhancement of certain flavors might change, but in no way would anyone expect for there to be more of a milk flavor. Luckily the owner was nearby greeting a lot of his customers. He came up to us, unknowing we had just talked about the drinks, and asked us about our experience. Just being honest I let him know about the flavor discrepancy. He kindly listened but was very quick to move on and suggest us an entirely different drink, the Charcoal Oolong. He took my friends half finished drink and went to make her a new one inside. We tried it in front of him and it was def more tea tasting and of a darker roast than the previous, which were our initial complaints. After he left and a bit more drinking, we all came to the conclusion that the drink was still not that great.. it was just very nutty, thick, and milky, not really resembling a milk tea. (BTW: If it's past Kitakata then you know your wait will be pretty long). Looks like a re-brand of Orobae but maybe with new (or semi-new) management, down to the service flow and drink selection. Tea tastes near identical to what Orobae served in the past and the staff still asks if you've tried the teas before and asks if you're happy with what you order. I came in one afternoon around 2pm. By my luck, there was no line! I mentioned that it was my first time and the barista went over recommendations. I think I had ordered the Metal Buddha. They use these beautifully flavorful teas from Taiwan and (similar to nespresso machine for coffee), they do it for their teas which she educated me that it keeps the integrity of the taste of tea. One to order and another to wait, but it's not really a line, people just happen to line up there to wait for their drinks as the staff call out orders by name. The line to order when I went stretched back up to Ralph's, but not actually at Ralph's, just the wall. The wait from there was about 1 hour. Waiting for the drinks was like another 20 minutes. We ordered the Phoenix 2 and 13, and rising Buddha. You can adjust ice and sweetness accordingly, and tapioca/boba. All were good. But again, is it worth the wait? Tried the latest and greatest new boba shop in Irvine, apparently from the folks who previously owned Orobae. Owner controversy aside, the place has world class boba. The tea flavor full and bold, the milk used is of top quality, and the pearls are spot on with perfect chew and sweetness. I elected for the red jade milk tea and felt half sweet was perfect although their speciality is the oolong varieties. There is always a long ridiculous line for this spot and I wanted to understand the hype. Before it was Orobae and now this spot took over. Never had the chance to try Orobae due to their closure, but apparently one of the owners from Orobae had opened this one. Very short line last night so my friend and I decided to try it. Waited a few minutes to order. Menu thats scannable at the front DOES NOT include their new matcha menu. So check that out before ordering if that's something you want. Honestly menu is straight forwards on all the names to the teas but no description which makes it difficult to understand what the difference on teas. However this is when service comes into play. AMAZING service very knowledgeable and sweet. Love a strong and bold tea so they recommended the Metal something tea at a level 2 of sweetness (25%) and half ice, add matcha agar. The drink, took 15ish minutes, waiting inside the store and walking down this narrow path. When the drink is ready they call your name and run through how you can taste the drink first and have it adjust to your liking. Took a sip and the sweetness level was perfect, not too sweet and just right. However here's the thing, the drink tasted like watered down tea. Yes I get the notes of the tea, but completely watered down in a little dinky cup that was $7ish dollars for. The matcha agar was awesome and definitely something I would get again if I ever were to go back, but honestly.... Wait was not worth it for some watered down tea. I love a bold undiluted tea. For example YiFang did an excellent job of keeping a very bold undiluted tea. Even Sunright who does milk teas, does a really good job of keeping the bold flavors of the tea. My friend got the No. 13, and it was nice and floral, but watered down too. Ambiance of the whole store is an open concept"U" shaped black and white fancy look. Service is great. No area to sit inside. Two to three high tops outside to stand and have your drinks, as well as some of the public plazas benches and seating areas. Drinks are honestly just mid. 5 stars for the milk tea but I do have some feedback on other aspects. I LOVED Orobae but still can't believe that their tea tasted to good despite the machines not being cleaned (at all) and the inside of the kitchen was found with mold. Had to get that out of my system! *shakes in disgust* Anyway now here at Desouro I had the Aged Crescent Black milk tea with level 4 sweetness, 1/2 ice, and boba. It was really good and hit the spot! So so happy about this! The interior of the shop is an open kitchen style where you have full sight of all the machines and can see the staff at work. Complete opposite of Orobae where you couldn't even step inside at all. That said, it made for an odd layout that I wouldn't call feng shui. After ordering, you kind of stand by the side to wait for your drink. The main problem is that the space is so narrow that it is a hazard because this is the same narrow path that leads to their bathroom. It was not comfortable at all and for someone claustrophobic like me, it was making me spiral just waiting for my drink. Orobae was my favorite boba spot in OC so I was super excited when Desouro opened - I waited over an hour and a half the first week to try the drinks. Unfortunately, the drink quality was only 75-80% of what Orobae used to be and the boba quality was hard and inconsistent, which was very different from Orobae's consistent chewy tapioca quality. A few weeks after they opened I went back, hoping that the drink quality had improved back to the old standard. However the drinks are now watered down - especially noticeable for the pure teas - and as the drinks are currently I wouldn't recommend them at all. I hope the drinks improve back to the old Orobae standard because they used to be such good drinks, but I definitely won't be returning for a while. read more

The overall ambience of the shop is really strange and I could've sworn I heard the staff say "Yes, Chef!" which me and all my friends found really offputting and weird. There is no indoor seating and the overall layout is also really weird with people just lining up along the borders of the store for their boba LOL. As far as the actual tea, they do give you the option to taste it before you leave in order to make sure you like it and they can remake it for you if there's anything that is not up to your standard. However, I did request a remake of my tea and it still wasn't good so I unfortunately won't be back. The tea is really watered down and there's a weird oily flavor that I'm not sure where it comes from but overall it was not an enjoyable experience. I have been here a few times so this will be a thorough review. First time I came here was during their soft open. The line moved very slow because they have one cashier and they have to run through the script, while also answering customer questions. I appreciate the service in them explaning, but they don't have any large menus displayed to help people in line narrow down their order prior to the cashier. I have been here when there is a short line and you can easily run into the same issue. They may also alternate between registers. The aesthetic and layout are a big miss. There is no indoor seating. I feel like they were going for elegant and the main show is the baristas in the middle. But overall it makes it really awkward to wait for your order. The crowd along the one side makes it awkward when you get your order and have to leave. Matcha (and I'm guessing coffee in the future) get their orders on the right side. If you get a matcha and a tea drink, you have to go to one side and then the other side. They ask you to try your drink and they can remake it if you don't like it. It's a very good service, but it can hold up drink orders that are after you, but they will insist they will remake it if you don't like it. The sweetness level scales are super random. Milk tea drink scale 1-5, pure tea scale 1-4, and matcha scale 1-3. Full sweetness tends to be a little too sugary for me, but it's hard to remember what sweetness level you like when the scales are all different. There is only one size for drinks and for the matcha they come up short with no ice. They did handwisk the matcha, but you can't tell over the high countertops. Drinks I have tried: - Formosan breakfast black: the most unique of the teas I've tried4/5 - Rising Phoenix #13: deeper oolong flavor than the rising Phoenix #2 4/5 (I want to know what happened to rising Phoenix 3-12) - Metal goddess: 4/5 more tea focused than the rising Phoenix - Desouro matcha: grainy due to the sugar they use 3.5/5 - Formosan matcha: flavor profile was much better on this one than the desouro matcha 4.5/5 Would probably score 4/5 if this review was based on drinks alone. Best milk tea that I've ever had!! I tried both the Rising Buddha milk tea as well as the Desouro Phoenix No 2 milk tea, and both were delicious. I preferred the rising buddha one more just because the tea is a bit lighter flavor IMO. Boba pearls here were also really good, just the right amount of chewiness. We got in right at opening on Sunday since we were waiting for another restaurant in the same plaza and started lining up 15-30 mins before opening. There definitely started to be a small line closer to opening and as we were leaving. Staff is quite efficient and very friendly! The most stand out thing to me at Desouro was definitely the customer service! You could tell that all of the employees tried their hardest to make the customer experience helpful, welcoming, and very enthusiastic. They were really adamant on ensuring that you enjoyed the drink before leaving the doors which is a really great policy! I ended up getting the Rising Buddah Oolong Milk Tea (Sweetness 3) and the Honey Gyokuro Green Milk Tea (Sweetness 2), which I was excited to see back on the menu. Out of the two, I enjoyed the Rising Buddah a bit more because of the stronger tea flavor. With the Gyokuro, I did taste a bit of the distinctive milk powder taste which somewhat overpowered the taste of the tea for me. However, I thought that both sweetness levels were pretty good for my taste so I would recommend a 2 or 3 if you like your drinks less sweet. Last Saturday, after an early lunch at kitakata, we walked out to a short line in front of Desouro, about maybe 10-12 people. I got in the line and waited about 20 minutes. The line moved slow. Service was friendly. There is no seating inside. The store is spacious and looks pristine. I got the honey red Jade milk tea, which was one of my favorite drinks at Orobae. I would give it a 3.5/5. The tea favor was pretty light. I prefer a stronger tea flavor personally. The boba felt a bit overcooked, kinda mushy and lacked the chewy texture. Just like how Orobae was, the tea flavor was very strong and noticeable. It was a very enjoyable flavor if you're looking for something intense. The new counter service was clean and more modern. A nice change from when everything was served outside the store. The servers were very friendly and made sure the drinks matched what we had ordered. I rarely leave reviews, but, as someone who has been to a number of Michelin restaurants, I can tell you the service here is spectacular! If you are wanting a tea shop to go to with 5 star class, this is the one. All of the staff who helped me were so polished and kind! Kassidy was so sweet helping me order and walked me through the flavor profiles of teas I was considering, Christa explained their very high quality tea making process to me and asked me to try the tea first in case I wanted to have a different one instead (so don't stress about trying new teas!), and Elise came over as I was leaving and asked me about my thoughts since it was my first time there, and she genuinely wanted to make sure I enjoyed it! It felt like I was getting a boba in Paris with French design and the meticulous attention to detail I miss from Japan. As for my drink, I did the Phoenix No. 2 Oolong Milk Tea with 0 sweetener and no ice! Heard that this is supposed to be Orobae #2 so we couldn't pass it up when in the area. The line wasn't too bad but we did wait a good 15 mins. I ordered the No 13 Phoenix tea and my hubby ordered the No 2 milk tea. I liked his drink more than mine, it tastes almost like a coffee smooth and fragrant. Mine is a bit underwhelming with not much tea flavor to it. I'd say 25% sugar is plenty if you don't like your drinks too sweet like me. Great service everyone had a big smile on their faces. Will come back to try the Ceylon and buddah drinks. Can't lie... still liked Orobae a bit more though. read more
