A late night quick dinner with the family was anything but that. After we signed-in, We probably waited a good 20 minutes if not longer. I though, At least in my past experiences that people that usually come in and sign in first, are the FIRST to get seated and attended to. But, it wasn't like that at all. After several Larger parties that came in after we did, we being seated first, Then after the seated the 3rd largest party, My family grumbled and convinced me to just walk out. I guess- our business is no longer wanted there. The whole time there was little to no communication, or eye-contact. Or even smiles for that matter. I someone is not happy working at Denny's. The service from Sushila was incredible. The restaurant was busy but despite this she always made time for us to have our coffee full at all times and to make sure we had everythingwe needed. Came here today for an early morning breakfast with my boyfriend. Today is my birthday and I unashamedly wanted my free grand slammed. I called ahead of time to confirm they still do that because it's been a few years since I've come in on my Bday. Over the phone the lady said all I'd need is my photo identification card and to alert the waitress upon seating. We get seated and I said, "hi, it's my birthday so I wanted to order the grand slam please" her stern and dry response was "you'll have to become a rewards member to get that" I then said "really? I just called yesterday and confirmed that I only needed my I.d card" she walked away after becoming noticeably agitated and said "my manager is here I'll go check" she came back within seconds only to say "yes, you can use your I.D but you can only get the grand slam" I think just looked at her took a little deep breath the. Said "that's what I said to begin with ma'am" the had the audacity to become defensive and quickly said "NO, you said lumberjack meal" I don't even know what that is, plus I pointed to the grand slam as I requested it. One of the few Denny's restaurants I actually enjoy dining in. It's located in between Hayward and Union city. The area is fairly suspect but the service I typically receive is usually on point. I've been coming here since I was a teenager hanging out late to bringing my family in now. I usually come in during dinner time or early weekends. The food is good and the service has usually been good. I'm a fan of breakfast for dinner so it's either omelettes or steak and eggs for me. I usually spit the pancakes with the kids or gorge out on my own on my cheat days but in all I leave feeling full and satisfied. The menu has changed over the years with different specialties but I all it's one of the better comfort food establishments that pack in a decent meal at a low price. read more

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! We went there with my in laws around 930pm and it was slow... but the service was even slower than the business. I don't know what the were doing. But it took them about half an hour just to take our order and 15 minutes to give us water. The service was BAD!! I don't know if our server had hearing problems or not... Ordered something but we said cancelled it and he still brought it to our table... Also, he asked for our gravy brown or white, we said white but came up brown!! He had hearing problems or don't understand the language.. FOOD was HORRRIIBBLEEE!!! We ordered the Chicken skillet, it was WAY different from the picture... I no longer like to eat here at night. In recent years, the diner has been short-staffed (another review mentions this too). My dad and I had dinner here on Saturday (we were busy earlier, and so we came in around 11). It was pretty busy inside, but we only had to wait a few minutes to be seated (2 people almost cut in front of us, but the hostess knew that we had arrived first). Our server was friendly, but slow to get us some more napkins. She could have also placed a to-go order sooner (my dad was nice enough to think about my mom, and he told our server when we ordered about the extra meal). Still, for someone new, she's pretty solid (the meal for my mom featured a few items, and it was wise of her to box them separately). Some teenagers were sitting near us. Still, it was fairly delicious and refreshing. I even asked for a refill. Chicken Strips ($8.16): 7.75/10. They're normally better. We received 5 nicely-sized chicken strips, and I was given a lot of BBQ sauce on the side (my dad doesn't like BBQ sauce, and so he cringed when our server asked us if we wanted the sauce "on" the chicken strips). Our chicken strips were also meaty and hot. The problem, though, is that they were overcooked. They weren't super crunchy or anything like that, but I was a bit disappointed with how they tasted. BYO (Build Your Own) Slam: My dad received a lot of food for only $7.07. His eggs looked great (I was tempted to ask for some), and, as usual, he received a big bowl of oatmeal (I don't know what else he ordered). Double Cheeseburger (normally $10.89, but $12.61 if you want Seasoned Fries and Bacon): 8.25/10. I wish they gave you more bacon here, but my strips were meaty and delicious. My patties were juicy and pretty thick (I love the burgers at Denny's, and had been craving one earlier). I received a nice portion, but my seasoned fries were a bit overcooked. Some of them were even stuck together like they were making out and about to book a hotel. My bun was a little charred (they're normally better). *New* Red, White & Blue Pancakes Breakfast ($7.62): "Two buttermilk pancakes made with blueberries topped with sliced fresh strawberries, cream cheese icing and whipped cream. Served with two eggs cooked to order, hash browns and your choice of two strips of bacon or two sausage links." My dad asked for bacon, and the eggs were over easy. I was tempted to order this myself. Anyway, my mom was pleased when she ate her food on Sunday. We finally left after midnight (we were here for over an hour). We had to wait over 15 minutes for our food (thankfully, the meal for my mom was ready in about 10 minutes). It also took awhile before we received the bill. Came Saturday. 3 ppl. Myself, a friend, and my toddler. Told me 30mins. Waited a hour. When they called my name I was waiting to be seated the manager was talking to a lady who was told she 30mins as well. She asked if he was under estimating the wait time, he told her we're just guessing. He told her she had 5 ppl ahead of her how long would you guess that wait time, then rudely brushed her off. When we sat another couple who had only been waiting 5 mins before we sat was put next to us. They got their food before we did and left before us as well. We both ordered tres leche pancakes. My hubby and I decided to go to Denny's since it was quick and easy. There was a bit of a wait but we were seated within 15 mins or so. Our server never came to our table so after about 10 mins of us waiting the hostess came over and took our drink order. The server went to various tables but never even acknowledged we were in his section. Finally, my husband got his attention and he took our food order. The food took another 30 minutes to come out. The server continued to neglect our table checking on other tables for refills on coffee and water. We never got any attention from this stupid server. I went to the ladies room since we were still waiting WHICH WAS DISGUSTING!!! I saw the nice hostess who brought us our drinks and advised her we still hadnt received our food. She was shocked and went to the manager to see what was going on? Finally, our stupid server brought out our food which was the wrong order! When my husband said this isn't what I ordered he went back and took another 5 minutes to come out. We finally got our order straight. Now the kicker, we had to flag down the stupid server again to get our check, we got in line to pay and the hostess said to the manager, this is the couple I was speaking about. He, never apologized about the lack of service we received never said one word but made an adjustment on our bill for one meal. Even with that he didn't say, hey I am really sorry about your experience. He was equally as mediocre as that stupid server. Second time in this location since moving to the east bay.. We came in on a busy Saturday for brunch and was seated promptly. Luckily we got sat down with our server Shelee S section again. The reason why I'm giving 5 stars in both my experiences is because Shelee is an excellent server. She is well aware of her surroundings and checks regularly on her costumers making sure they have everything they need. My girlfriend and I came in New Years Day (at night) and had an interesting time. Our waiter, Jose, was great! He was attentive, had a great smile, and was an overall great waiter. However, when we came in Aaron was the one at the front. He was walking around with headphones on top of (not even inside) his ears with music so loud we could hear. He had them in for a while and seemed to just be walking around. Later, as we got up to pay he was laughing with the empland saying things like "dead ass". So incredibly unprofessional, we were shocked.. and I know Denny's isn't the sort of place you go for the best customer service but this guy didn't have a care in the world. I legitimately thought his dad owned the restaurant or something. Other than Aaron, this place was alright. Clean, fast, and amazing Jose. UPDATE: giving this place one extra star because I came in tonight and had Kasondra C as my waitress. (Only know that because of the receipt) the food took forever to come out but she was a great waitress! She was funny, great smile, attentive, and sweet. The owner and about 6 waiters are chatting in front of my section as I type this. It took 10 minutes to sit all the while watching all the drama the employees bring to this place. I know Javier can't log in until 3 so no one can clean the tables. This is the second time I come in and am seated next to the owner/manager (guy in green shirt) eating with who looks like an other manger (red shirt). While several of the waiters and bussers joke and play and don't attend the tables. Follow up: I spoke to the GM (green shirt) who gave me a bunch of excuses to why his employees were behaving this way. He told the manager (red shirt) ( who was very busy talking to staff at the register) to take care of me and blatantly ignored him and walked away. He finally said don't worry I'll take care of it. He covered the $25 bill, thank you. But my last breakfast of 2017 was ruined (that's not a thing, but I had to make myself laugh).
