I'm pretty impressed with this Five Guys. I was there during a lunch rush, and they cranked out burgers and fries like rock stars. The place was straight up busy, but they had a long counter, with a burger assembly line to move the orders along. I ordered the classic combo for $14.99 with my burger "all the way" so it was big and sloppy. Just like a burger should be! It had grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, and oozed all that good stuff with every bite. The fries were natural cut and oh-so-crisp. I wish I knew their secret. I had a lemonade, with a free refill to wash it all down. The restaurant was spotless inside, and had bags of peanuts stacked on the floor. I had a pretty interesting time at the Five Guys location in Hayward, on Hesperian Blvd near Industrial. This is the restaurant in the small strip mall near the Costco. Good location.....busy area, lots of businesses nearby, and free parking. I thought it would be fun to go in and order in person. It was 45-mins before closing. First, it's really loud and noisy inside. The order taker was yelling at me. I'm the only customer there, and everyone is yelling grill orders. So I decide on a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake. Everything is cool as I'm standing away from the counter. When I stepped up to the counter, then the fry cook let me know he's adding extra fries to my order. He gave me a regular fries, and then what appeared to be half a basket of fries in the bag. How are the fries? Great texture, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. But too much salt! Grade (4/5). Milk Shake? Grade(4/5): Creamy, smooth, good flavor, but not cold enough. It's customer preference. I like the old school style of milk shake with the "icy bite." When you get a milkshake from a Wendys or McDonalds, and it has a grainy appearance, those are ice crystals. When you drink it, your mouth will be COLD! The Cheeseburger "All The Way", Grade (4/5): Good double cheeseburger. Proof that you can make a cheeseburger that isn't dry, tastes good, and travels well. Even when it's " All The Way!" While I was standing there watching the lady cook my burger, my order taker puts a box of peanuts on the counter. He says " Did you want some peanuts?" He gave me half a bag to take home. IT'S FINALLY OPEN!!!! While making my weekly Costco run, I noticed Five Guys was finally opened for business. Instead of dining in on my first visit, I needed to order take out since I had my non-perishables in my car. When I walked in, there was no line to my surprise. Being familiar with this franchise, it was pretty easy ordering my meal. I had been craving for the longest time here is their cajun fries! Besides having a large order of cajun fries on my mind, I ended up ordering a bacon cheese burger (comes with two hamburger patties, American cheese, and bacon), with my choice of toppings of mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, ketchup, mustard, and grilled onions. The service was friendly and my order was expedited in a timely manner. Once I got home, the burger and fries were still hot from a five minute drive. This restaurant is closeby our house and we only go once every two-three months. Not really a burger person but when my husband craves for it, I just always order the bacon burger. I have it "all-the-way" with jalapeno for extra and boy it doesn't disappoint as always. With fries and chocolate shake, Ohmy!!!... I'm in heaven. To top it with roasted peanuts while waiting, makes it all worthwhile. I love the freshness of their meat and all the seasonings and ingredients. For me, it is just perfect the way I like it. 5 Guys grew on me over the years. A lot has to do with experience and the other with perspective. Through experience, I learned to not over do the toppings here. Even though you will be tempted because they offer a ton of options, AND most are FREE. But their burger/cheese/bun tandem is pretty classic and in good balance and quality. I say why hide that simple balance that most places have a hard time getting right. I now go mustard, ketchup, pickles and grilled onion/or raw depending on mood, often both! It's basically the model of a Mc Donald's burger, but this is 10X better/fresher. It's a proven formula. Burger wise I also would like to note that the versions here are not photogenic. It is because they wrap all burgers in foil paper completely. So by the time you unwrap everything, there's a definite smoosh factor. In & Out is much more photogenic as they only wrap half the sandwich in that cardboard sleeve. Despite the look, it does not affect the taste one bit. It is still a solid and juicy burger bite. Trust. Through experience, I learned that their fries here are unique. But not in that fast food/burger way. The fries here are thicker than most fast food. It comes from a fresh potato vs frozen, AND they fry it in peanut oil, which is one of the most expensive oils to use for frying. Now due to the thickness, it doesn't come off super crisp. But that's the way I like it, to have some creaminess in the center, versus just hollow air. These fries are actually quite suitable for a dousing of malt vinegar and salt. So guess what, that's exactly what I do, I get all British up in there. Before the Shelter In Place, they would have bottles of malt vinegar at their condiment station where I would go to town, now I do it at home. Perspective in terms of, I'm rating this burger experience not from ALL burger experiences, but just from the fast food perspective. And for a fast food burger, this is up there. I still love an In & Out Double, but this is right up there, if not being a tad larger/heavier. And there is a big gap between In & Out/5 Guys and the rest of the pack. So in my 2-3 fast food burger outings per year, it is either going be here, or In & Out. Trust. A burger outing here though ain't cheap however. A "meal" of burger/fries/drink will run somewhere between $15-$20, depending on what size fries/drink you get. In & Out is under $10 for a combo meal, so there is that. But you do get more food here. I also got to give props to the main employee here. For as grim as the Shelter In Place environment is (chairs up, hardly any customers, everyone in medical masks), the dude who took the order was extremely cheerful and positive. While doing something else in the back, he made a point to communicate, that he would be there shortly to take my order. I decided to try Five Guys since it's down the street from my house. I've only been to five guys once before and don't really remember my experience so I thought I'd give it a try. The menu is pretty straightforward. They have burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, shakes etc. I got a little bacon sandwich with little fries. First and foremost there's nothing little about their "little" anything so definitely keep that in mind when ordering. In my opinion the prices are pretty steep JUST for a burger but like I said the "little" burger was pretty big so I guess you get what you pay. For the fries you have the option of "Five guys style" or "Cajun" I tried both and Cajun was a bit too salty for my liking so I prefer the "five guys style." We had lunch here on a Sunday. This place is next to Costco in Hayward. There is plenty of parking in the area. We ordered two cheeseburger with everything on it. The burgers were good although the buns got soggy really fast presumably from the mushrooms. We also got a large cajun fries which is enough for three people. They filled a large cup all the way on top with a lot more which ended up in the bag. They have just about all types of sodas available. I had Mello Yello which I have not had in a long time. Our order was complete in less than ten minutes. There is free peanuts available while you wait. Although the food is good, I don't think the value is there. I'm not a huge fan of burgers so I cannot fairly rate their burgers. But their cajun fries are top notch; so perfectly crispy with the perfect kick to them. I love that they really stuff the cup and bag with fries - I love finding a few under my napkins just when I think I finished them all! So glad a Five Guys has opened closer to home! This Five Guys is located in the new Eden Shores plaza along Hesparian Boulevard near the Costco. Upon entering you'll notice that the establishment is brand new and the staff acknowledged us as we entered the restaurant and were very attentive. Since they just opened I expected that service would be a bit slow but they actually exceeded expectations. I think they had more seasoned staff ftom other locations working the night I visited because everything was spot on.
